MSN TV reporter, Dave Lake, has decided in his infinite wisdom that Tina Fey ridiculing Governor Sarah Palin is the top TV moment from the 2008 TV season. Aren't you surprised that making fun of Sarah Palin has become the top TV moment? I mean, it's incredible that the liberal media has decided that out of the entire TV season, this is the top moment! I'm SHOCKED, to say the least. (Don't worry, I won't run out of sarcasm any time soon)
From his blurb on the main page of the TV Year in review section I think we can see why Mr. Lake is a reviewer and not himself a TV writer. Let's just say that his "humor" fell flat.
I Can See Tina From My House: The year's most singular TV moment was Tina Fey's return to "Saturday Night Live" as Republican vice presidential hopeful Sarah Palin. Fey, who was never known for her impressions while on the show, nailed the voice, mannerisms and spirit of the Alaska governor, propelling the show to its best ratings in 14 years. An appearance a few weeks later by the actual Sarah Palin fell flat, much like her bid for the White House. (NBC)
The appearance by the "actual" Sarah Palin "fell flat"? Says who? It was one of SNL's highest watched episodes all year. It would seem, rather, that the whole rest of the SNL season fell flat compared to the ratings that Sarah Palin brought the show!
And, I'm sorry, how did Fey "nail" the Governor's "spirit"? That would presuppose that Sarah Palin is as stupid as Fey attempted to make her seem. One has to point out that Fey did not get elected to the highest office a state has while Sarah Palin did.
It just doesn't surprise that this leftist media writer for MSN saw Fey's little spoof as the top TV moment.
But, let me point out four TV moments that didn't make this guy's list.
- Barack Obama's vaunted religion speech
- Barack Obama's special appearance to "the world" in Europe
- Barack Obama's acceptance speech at the DNC
- Barack Obama's election night and his victory speech in Chicago
I have to say, I find it just a touch amusing that Sarah Palin beat Barack Obama for top TV moments even if it was via Fey's spoof.

What's Truly Funny
December 24, 2008 - 14:55 ET by BourbeauWhat's truly funny is that Dave Lake thinks anyone cares what he thinks was the top TV moment. Even worse, he got it ass backwards. The importance wasn't that the media over dosed on Palin-mania to the point of absurdity that makes it the number one TV moment, it's that they were so egregiously unfair and shamelessly denigrating they couldn't control themselves, thus creating the most embarassing TV orgy witnessed to date.
OK, Once more..........
December 24, 2008 - 15:09 ET by wotsiznamewotsizname -- Pundits are punding, Barely With It John is on liberal talk shows criticizing Sarah who valiantly almost saved his campaign, The One is trying to distance himself from his associates, and Tina Fey is a famous person of the year. What ever happened to that upstart normal American, happy, successful, intelligent, political leader and Governor of one of our states? The one the TV Mouths like to denigrate? Oh, Sarah? Last week she signed more papers toward building the thirty billion plus dollar gas pipeline. This week she presented her Administration's $5,582,664,200 (Yes, that's Five and a Half Billion Dollars) Annual Operating Budget to the Legislature for approval. Don't know what Katie, Charles, Slow John or Joe Mumbles are doing this week; maybe dreaming about change. Sarah's busy at work. We hired her to manage our common business. We're happy. You Betcha.

HER BID FOR THE WHITE HOUSE?
December 24, 2008 - 15:26 ET by glhracingI didn't think that Palin had a "bid" for the White House. I thought she was McCain's running mate. Never heard it called a Vice-Presidential Bid, but I may be wrong.
Another thing. If my calendar is right, it is still 2008 and unless TV has all of a sudden quit working then there is still more memorable episodes of I Love Lucy and the Golden Girls that I can watch.

I have a Brand new in-box PlayStation 3 gaming system that you can obtain for a special price. It is the 80gb model and includes 2 brand new dualshock 3 wireless controllers.I do not want your money or thanks. To obtain this top of line gaming system, you must let me punch you in the face three times and your child must be present. If you have multiple children, I would prefer you bring your youngest child. This is not a joke. If you want to be your children's hero on Christmas, we will meet at a location that I will specify to you, and I will proceed to punch you in the face in front of your child. You may brace yourself if you want before I begin to punch you, for I am a man of large stature (6'6, 275lbs) In between each punch, I want you to instruct your child not cry. If your child so much as whimpers, the deal is off. Don't think I am a man to be trifled with or that you and a friend can ambush me. I am a former NAVY SEAL and a veteran of the Irag War.
This is the
best deal you will ever find on a PlayStation 3. A truly unique offer.
You are welcome to inspect the product for authenticity before the deal
is done.
All I can say is I pray it's a hoax, because I don't know who's more depraved: someone who would list this proposition, or someone who would respond to it.

I am post-print somewhat myself--because of vision issues, I listen to my novels now and some wonderful readers read them to me--I salute audio books! But I really wonder if the bad educational system is to blame for people whizzing along, catching sound bites, being manipulated or even (as this time) DUPED... No one is in debate club or it seems like no one is. No one knows the difference between proof and evidence or facts and opinion. But I do go on...

Oh, the irony of it.....
December 24, 2008 - 19:04 ET by riff_raffI guess the real irony of applauding Fey for her (now tiresome) satire of Gov. Palin completely escapes the feeble-minded libs. But then that's what makes it so entertaining for me.
Sarah Palin is much more attractive, much smarter, more accomplished and has demonstrated a much greater depth of character than Tina Fey could ever hope for. Yet who do the libs idolize? That's right, the person who exists in the world of make-believe and who's words and actions are all scripted.
I don't want to imply that Tina Fey is a bad person, because I don't know her. But for satire to be genuinely funny it should contain some measure of truth. Fey's impersonation consists of nothing more than "Gee, isn't Sarah Palin dumb and aren't we libs so smart? Hahaha".
As for the TV moment of the year, hands down it was the video of Slick Willy falling asleep at the MLK speech. Now THAT was entertainment!

December 24, 2008 - 19:14 ET by j17ghsLet's see ... the wack job son of a wacko Democratic official hacked into Palin's e-mail account (during the campaign, no less) and put the names and phone numbers of her kids on the Internet; the DNC, ever the organization to promote civil discourse, sends %#&!# trial lawyers en masse to Alaska to dig through her trash; and then some wack job tries to burn down her church.
So I ask, why isn't the media pummelling Fey for hate crimes against Palin -- not to mention our system of liberty, open elections and democracy in general?!

December 24, 2008 - 20:59 ET by ConservativeRexI have a different take on this y'all.
I think the biggest story of the year, one that never gets true coverage, is how the media absolutely tanked itself for a Presidential candidate.
2008 is when the media lost all credibilty with thinking Americans. They should hold themselves up for shame for the rest of the world to see.
They will never get back to honest reporting. They are unbelieveable from here on out.
That, is the biggest story of 2008!

Feh to Fey
December 25, 2008 - 02:50 ET by DoktorFrankenI think that Fey's ''Sarah'' is as 'right on' as Chevy Chase's ''Gerald Ford'' - which is not at all. Fey looks similar, in a cartoonish way, but her vocalization of Sarah is more like a mocking attempt to imprint a totally different personality (sounds like Frances McDormand in ''Fargo'') onto a very astute person. To those who know Sarah, Fey's act is an insult to our senses and intelligence.

Sarah Palin Has liberals Terrified
December 25, 2008 - 05:01 ET by jcharlesIt does my heart good to see all Liberals panic stricken by Sarah Palin. They are so terrified of her that they have become derranged to the point of a clinical diagnosis. Thsy do not fear her for no reason. She stands for everything they have worked to establish as the new culrtural values for this coutry. Her presence on a stage speaks volums against the Liberal agenda. She is a freash symbol of feminity that the Liberals could never match. She is a new generation Woman, making the Liberal feminin "Product" obseete. Sarah Palin is truth. She is what most Woman felt they wanted to be, needed to be, and most comfortable being. The Women of America seemed to breath a huge sigh of relief as Sarah Palin validated their unspoken uneasiness with a perverted feminist model. Thank you Sarah Palin. This is what the Liberals must destroy, or she will destroy them. Go Cuda'
As usual....
December 25, 2008 - 09:33 ET by taocpaThese guys are so phony. Tina Fey can be funny, but when I heard people actually quote they heard Sarah Palin say she could see Russia from her backyard, I nearly jumped out of my skin. I said, "Tina Fey said it, not her." They told me I was wrong, heard it on the Charlie Gibson interview and when challenged to prove it, guess what? I proved them wrong.
As was pointed out, the flip side is while ridiculing Palin was the over-the-top coverage of Obama. The WaPo today has a fawning piece about his workout regimen. Imagine a piece like that about Bush.
Well, Merry Christmas to all. I'm off to watch my 7-year old daughter open her presents. I am going to lose my hearing when she opens up the one gift she really wanted: the Nintendo Wii. I just heard her tell our neighbor's kid that: "Jesus is the real reason for the season." Gotta love it.

December 25, 2008 - 20:52 ET by DanSchwartzActually, I'm going to take the politics out of my reply (as well as Jim Downey's writing), and concentrate on the actual performance of Tina Fey as Governor Palin: I think she actually did a pretty good job -- Much better than Amy Poehler's job as Hillary.
Keep in mind that the Cheney's are very good friends with Darrell Hammond, as is Chris Matthews.
Now, before you roast me with your flames, remember just a few weeks ago we were all lauding SNL's portrayal of Herbert and Marion Sandler of Golden West in the infamous Bailout Skit... December 26, 2008 - 08:01 ET by jdhawkMy top TV moment for all of 2008 is not watching any drive by media news programs. While I am only one person, collectively those of us with similar "TV moments" are having an impact. Viewership is down another 5% this year, on average, on all of the drive by media news programs. Left wing newspapers are going bankrupt and Hollyweird's movies on our present wars lost money. So, so far . . . so good!
Happy New Year!
Just like the jealous girls in High School....
December 26, 2008 - 10:23 ET by AshleeThe liberal leaning (or completely bent) media outlets are just like them. They don't attack the quiet, unassuming, non-threatening opponents. Rather, they feign friendly overtones (as many tried to do in a way to court Sarah onto their show, with cross and nail waiting in tow behind the curtain) and once seen as allies, will do their best to tear them down not only in the public eye, but also in hopes to ruin their opponents own morale and sow the seeds of doubt within them.
I personally *LIKE* that she was cited the 'Top TV moment of Ridicule' or whatever the heck this stupid award the closet left-wingers over at MSNBC have created. Why you might ask; especially seeing as I loved Sarah so much that she turned me from voting independent to voting McCain, simply because I think, some social issues aside, she is the sharpest tack in the conservative camp for over a decade. Even better, she's a down home, normal and in touch American who *isn't* a silver spooner; spoiled by the perks of being in the beltway of modern corrupt politik.
Well, the answer is simple. They are MORTIFIED of her. Make no mistake, the media has gone to the moon and back, attempting to insinuate that Sarah is not only out of touch, but that all of America shares that sentiment. Gotta love it when the privledged few that have the microphone will discount and ignore the masses of America they claim to represent, and espouse their own personal feelings as public opinion. The attacks may have died down, but only because Sarah, unlike most politicians on both sides of the political aisle, *actually* went back to focusing completely on her work as Governor after her loss this year for her bid as VP. Its refreshing, seeing as most politicians, man or woman, left or right, who gain such sensational overnight celebrity status, usually become addicted to the attention and will do next to anything to stay in the spotlight. Not my Sarah, she's a smart, wise, and hardworking person who realizes the battle may be lost, but in order to win the next one, and hopefully the war, she must regroup and focus on her task at hand for now, which would be Alaska. Keep an eye out though, she's no where *near* done, and despite the constant hit jobs on her from the left, and even a select few right leaning groups and journalists, most of it boils down to one thing.
She represents change as well. Change they don't want because it would mean those in power would be held accountable for actions. That people would have to work for a living instead of forwarding all their bills to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave C/O Barry Obama.
Keep on slinging the mud, the MSM will do all they can to stop her and silence her, but in that fight between Sarah and the MSM, I have all my money on Sarah; she's the tough as nails, yet compassionate woman that America needs but sadly will have to wait at least 4 more years for.
At least at this rate she'll have 4 years to expand on her wardrobe so the Media will have something 'relevant' to talk about. *rolls eyes*
