The wires services and the rest of the Old Media have also been reporting on a scandal that doesn't have to do with Illinois Governor, Rod Blagojevich. But, like the Blago story line, the media seem to be forgetting one small aspect of the story of Wall Street rip off artist Bernard Madoff. Like Blago, Madoff's connections to the Democrat Party seem to be of little interest to the media.
Very few media stories of the fraud perpetrated by former Nasdaq chairman Madoff mentions the heavy financial support that Madoff has donated to the Democrat Party. Campaign contributions by Madoff show many thousands of dollars going to Democrat candidates and causes. Including $100,000 to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign, thousands to Charles Rangel (D, NY), Charles Schumer (D, NY), and $6,000 to the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association. Madoff also gave generously to Senator Frank Lautenberg (D, NJ) who runs a charitable foundation that invested with Madoff.
With the money that Madoff spread around in contributions is it really surprising that his actions went ignored by regulatory agencies?
In any case, the media seems wholly uninterested in the fact that Madoff is a big Democrat contributor. I found no mention of Madoff's past support of the Democrats in any of the following stories.
The Associated Press: "List of potential victims grows in NY fraud case"
ProPublica: "Losses Unknown From Madoff’s ‘One Big Lie’"
Gawker: "A Bloodthirsty Public Finds the Villains We Want"
The New York Times: "Standing Accused: A Pillar of Finance and Charity"
New York Magazine; "Bernard Madoff: ‘It’s All Just One Big Lie’"
Forbes: "Fleeced Madoff Investors Face Cold Winter"
... these among many others.
I found but two mentions of Madoff's support of Democrats. One brief mention in Time Magazine and one in a Bloomberg report.
So, what we are seeing is the Old Media conveniently forgetting that this guy was a big Democrat donor. Who can doubt that if Madoff was a big donor to the GOP we'd see this fact featured prominently in every story? Yes, it's another sad but true name-that-party parlor game.

December 14, 2008 - 01:54 ET by bigtimerExactly right WTH...the story I read this morning did mention that he was a dem supporter/contributor, I read it from Drudge, it was the link about his sons turning him in... nevertheless of course we know the pattern of the msm, if this was anyone of the opposite party we would hear this all non-stop on all networks 24/7....they would be asking all the repub congress-critters that had any $$$ to their coffers by this man to return money, they would also be asking if they had any idea about this fellow that donated to them so heavily, if they knew him personally, looking into any meetings or any earmarks/bills that helped said person...making sure to be reporting on this too...breathlessly.
Implications would be hot and heavy..let alone the demands they give back their funds or donate them to a charity..(if a dem, a charity of their choosing which of course would go to same agenda one way or the other)....on and on it goes.
He most likely will be having a bail-out of some kind coming to a theater near him once the dems take control, (Yo Schumer)...with good ol' Paulson paving the way.
btw...as an aside...what the msm has done regarding Rangel and his BS has been past pathetic...I have been furious...and I am including Fox.

Despite what you may think, a pound to a penny, most of this ripped-off wealthy upper crust crowd voted for Obama -- and are also massive donors to the Democratic party
I bet they wish they could get that money back too.
I thought by now
December 14, 2008 - 06:09 ET by sentforth5that just about everybody knew the Lamestream media is one tentacle of the Evil democrat party.
Why entertain omissions 'n such when they have demonstrated to everyone that they are part of the dems machine? Is not that what they made clear by fraudulently helping the emperor usurper get into office?
I love NB, but we are now beating on a dead horse.

December 14, 2008 - 11:25 ET by sherylsimsI know a few people who believe the media is basically unbiased. Of course, for the most part their minds are closed and they would not venture to this site. But I still tell almost everyone I have any political or current event conversations with about this site because it really has helped me see things more clearly than I did before. (Of course now you have your coffee so you already realized that but I wanted to send greetings anyway.) Oh, and thank you for that information in the PM. I left on a trip and didn't reply so I apologize for that. But I read it all. It was very helpful.

Republicans not Dems watching the Store
December 14, 2008 - 09:24 ET by noman212I don't see the relevance of Madoff's Democratic contributions, as though they've been protecting him. The Republicans have been in charge for 8 years, not Dems.

December 14, 2008 - 12:44 ET by Chris NormanThen you don't "see" the purpose of this site at all. It doesn't matter to us what the exact and practical implications of his monetary contributions are. Mark pointed out, consistent with this site's purpose, that the media did not report that he was a Democratic Party contributor. If he was a Republican supporter, the story would have read, "Wall Street figure and major Republican contributor Bernard Madoff was..." Oh, forget it. You probably are deliberately not seeing...

December 14, 2008 - 10:09 ET by WorriedDo you know there are 3 branches of government? Executive, Legislative, Judicial. Bush is the Executive, but your Dems have had control of the Legislative for 2 years now. They are the ones that have created much of the mess we are in so don't get on NM and make a remark so inaccurate. Your Dems are responsible for the housing mess, started during the Cartera, which started a domino-effect on everything else!
BTW, I hope Obama received a large donation from the fraud Madoff. By since he is free of any scrutiny by the MSM we will probably never know where the monies came from for his campaign. O'Reilly promised he would make sure he would get an accounting from both Obama and McLame but I'm sure that won't happen now.
