Governor Palin is in demand. Every newshound, every TV talking head, every newsertainer in the country is after her. She is being pursued for TV shows, book deals, movie roles, hounded by photographers and every hanger on in both Hollywood and the newsertainment industry. But the Associated Press wants to be sure you understand one thing: she is a FAILURE! That's right, in discussing Palin's current celebrity, the main concern AP has is to make sure you know she is a big ol' loser. The AP is so intent to remind you she lost that it has to tell you she lost over and over again. You know, just in case you were unaware she and McCain didn't win the election.
So, did you know Sarah Palin lost the election? Here, let the AP remind you (My bold throughout)...
Oprah wants her, and so do Letterman and Leno. Fresh from her political defeat, Sarah Palin is juggling offers to write books, appear in films and sit on dozens of interview couches at a rate that would be astonishing for most Hollywood stars, let alone a first-term governor.
Gosh. Fresh from that defeat and all? Imagine.
But, wait. Not to be outdone by the first paragraph, the second paragraph goes one better. It starts OUT telling us she is a failure.
The failed Republican vice presidential candidate crunched state budget numbers this week in her 17th-floor office as tumbling oil prices hit Alaska's revenues. Meanwhile, her staff fielded television requests seeking the 44-year-old Palin for late-night banter and Sunday morning Washington policy.
Now, the AP continues for a few paragraphs not mentioning her abject, ignoble failure, but just when you are lulled into a false sense that the AP wants to do anything other than constantly sling arrows Palin's way comes the 7th paragraph with a helpful reminder that she is finished as an effective politician.
Palin may have emerged from the campaign politically wounded, with questions about her preparedness for higher office and reports of an expensive wardrobe, but she's returned to Alaska with an expanded, if unofficial, title -- international celebrity.
Wow, I wasn't aware of all of that messy stuff about her, were you? Thank God the AP is here to enlighten us!
But wait, the AP wasn't content just to mention those messy issues. A few paragraphs later the AP has to bring them up again and expand on them.
In her two months on the national stage, Palin energized the Republican base but turned off moderates and independents, according to some surveys. Flubbed answers in national television interviews raised questions about her competence. She was embarrassed by the disclosure the RNC spent at least $150,000 for designer clothing, accessories and beauty services for her and her family.
And, just when you thought that all the Palin smears were to come only from the AP, guess what? AP found an "expert" to bash her, too. I know, imagine that, right?
"She has to deal with the perception that she bobbled her debut," said Claremont McKenna College political scientist John Pitney. "She needs to stay home for a while. If she wants a future in national politics, her No. 1 job is doing a good job as governor."
In other words, Johnny wants Palin to shut up and stay in Alaska and above all not to try and keep her profile up!
But, not to be left behind by other bashers, the AP gets one last shot in. Palin is painted as a shirker.
Just this week, shortly after conducting a string of national TV interviews and skipping a state education conference, she was scolded by the Anchorage Daily News.
This "story" by the AP is twice as long as it needed to be because it is stuffed with needless harping on her "failures." But this piece does reveal one thing quite clearly. The Associated Press simply cannot fathom why anyone would want to interview Governor Sarah Palin. Not only that, but with the constant reminders that she lost the election, the AP wishes to ingrain upon the reader that she is unworthy of the acclaim and celebrity that has come her way.
But, let me give the AP a few reasons that Sarah Palin might be worthy of the curiosity. She only excited the base of the largest part of a national political party that has held the reins of power on and off since 1980. She brought out thousands of excited voters at every appearance she made on the campaign trail. She thrilled and invigorated a party convention that was sure to have been moribund and boring.
Millions of votes, AP. THAT is why she deserves to at least be given a shot to be heard, a shot that you and your media cohorts did their level best to stifle.
So, AP, let me introduce you to Governor Sarah Palin.

Well, if the AP is
November 22, 2008 - 12:28 ET by ConservativeRexWell, if the AP is reporting it you know it's lies and half-truths. I'm not worried about anything the AP writes.
All the AP is, is the PR arm of the Obamiacs.
And frankly, Sarah didn't lose this election. You know who lost the election...my friends. The AP has to whistle pass the graveyard concerning Sarah in the hopes that she doesn't come back in '12 and kick Obami's ass. That's all this is.
If she does come back in '12 she will boot his sorry ass. That is what scares the AP the most. So don't fret over anything they write.

November 22, 2008 - 17:48 ET by JRJ08OK. Admit it. You're really Tina Fey just trying to keep your shtick going, right? Or John Stewart pulling our collective legs. In six months, Sarah Palin won't even be front page news in Anchorage, Alaska-- unless it secedes from the Union. But you are right about who lost this election. It was definitely John McCain who gave in to the GOP ideologues and agreed to put Palin on the ticket. That cost him the election. I've posted this question here on NewsBusters many times, but only received sarcastic non-responses. How do you explain the fact that noted conservatives such as Kathleen Parker, David Brookes, Peggy Noonan, Scott McClellan, Christopher Buckley, George Will, Susan Eisenhower, Colin Powell and Ken Dubenstein walked away from McCain, citing his selection of Palin? And, after that, do you think any of the moderates in what remains of the Republican Party would allow her to come anywhere near '12?

November 22, 2008 - 17:13 ET by mom_roxThe only way I think Sarah should agree to an interview with Oprah is if Oprah and her entire production crew travel to Alaska for the show - make them spend money in Alaska and promote Alaskan tourism.
I agree with you that Sarah should focus on state issues for the time being. Maybe Oprah could go to Alaska for the Iditarod or go in summer for some halibut and salmon fishing.
It actually might turn out well for Sarah because Oprah cannot risk coming across too snarky.

Let Oprah and crew spend their own time fishing ect...if they want to show that on a later show, great...and like you say, no matter where they go, it will generate money...which is a good thing. ;-)

This is also proof that liberals can never, ever be happy. They just gleefully drank from the biggest Republican/conservative blood bath they'll ever see; they control everything. But what winds their crank? Sarah Palin is popular.
Geez.
The Associated Press, aka Pravda
November 22, 2008 - 14:51 ET by JRJ08It's AP's job to report the facts. If you watched the turkey interview given by Sarah Palin, you must have asked yourself why it was covered by the national news services. I mean, it was just an innocent little photo op. The thing is, how many interviews does this person have to give, butchering the language and striking a blow for mediocrity, before people accept the fact that she makes most high school cheerleaders sound like they have a doctorate in English Literature. Every time she opens her mouth, she confirms the fact that she cannot speak a single coherent, complete sentence, and is unable to articulate the syllable “ing”. In this particular interview, she tries to sound politically savvy in her folksy, illiterate kind of way, but comes off like Leo Gorcey from the old Deadend Kids serials. Of course, the turkeys being slaughtered in the background aren’t the issue. It’s the idea that she was so totally oblivious to what was going on right behind her and how it was so disconnected from what she was yammering about. It was a classic metaphor of her world-view. A complete lack of awareness. If Palin ever wants to be taken seriously in national politics, the first thing she’ll have to do is go back to high school and take a few English and public speaking courses. Maybe some World and U.S. history classes would help, too. A couple of semesters studying georgraphy wouldn’t hurt, either. Unfortunately, there is no course that will correct her intellectual impairment. And the college that gave her the degree in Journalism should lose its accredation immediately. This woman is a walking traffic accident and right now the whole country is rubbernecking, hoping to catch her next slaughtering of the language. That is the only reason any of these talkshows want her. She delivers an audience. A dumbed-down audience who adores a loser, but an audience nonetheless.

The clip about Palin
November 22, 2008 - 21:22 ET by andophiroxiaI love how the news assumes people are stupid. MSN had this big label that this interview was held right after a turkey pardon, but when you really hear the questions, it was regarding oil policies and general politics, not turkeys. It was in the middle of the interview like they CUT it there. It was extremely obvious.
Also, if you watch the dude take the first turkey out the legs and head area aren't blurred out, yet the 2nd turkey was even though the first grinder/hopper thing didn't even show the first turkey's head and it was enough to cover the 2nd turkey's head so there was no gore or any other obvious crunching noises.

November 22, 2008 - 17:27 ET by R D HelmI think what JRJ08's problem is is that Obama is turning out to be a know-nothing empty shell (real surprise there) who is utterly clueless about most everything.
Let's face it, this man did not reach his current position because of his qualifications, but due to the color of his skin, as well the deep pockets of his main benefactor, America-hater # 1, George Soros.
He is going to show himself to be more incompetent than even Jimmy Carter, and deep down, the lefties like JRJ08 know this, but will never admit it.
That is one of the reasons they are going after Palin with such vehemence.
The other is that they know she is going to be right there in 2012, and this time, shw won't be ham-strung by a liberal like John McCain.

Loser?!!! She has won EVERYTHING
November 22, 2008 - 15:25 ET by choselife3xThat she has personally run for you ignorant a$$.
As for the background, people in Alaska know where meat comes from and it is no big deal. That was where the camera was set up. So freaking what! Should she have asked them to move so squeamish liberals wouldn't be offended by the cycle of life? I thought liberals believed in Darwinism.
Obama makes in idiot of himself everytime he tries to ad lib. Doesn't know the difference between Sandford and Son and the Jeffersons (ad lib) makes a nasty attempt at a Nancy Reagan sneer AND screws it up (ad lib) and on and on and on. AP asks him a foreign policy question and his response is "I ordered the corned beef". 'The President-elect doesn't know a foreign policy from a hole in the wall'. Way to prove it Obama! He can't say anything that isn't written down for him. No class, all A$$. Palin has him beat by a mile in every category.
In order to be pro-choice, one must first be born. Ah, the irony.

November 22, 2008 - 15:42 ET by JRJ08You mean like governor of a state with 200,000 whole voters who don't pay any state taxes and get annual "spreading the wealth" check from the oil companies? Gee willickers! She must be a winner. Do you really think nobody but Alaskans know where "meat" comes from? If I was really interested in what you looked like, I would look up "a$$" in the dictionary and there would be your picture. The fact that you seem to think Sarah Palin is smart and Barack Obama isn't speaks volumes about the working order of your cerebrum. In fact, it is so absurdly upside down that it warrants no further responses.

November 22, 2008 - 21:37 ET by andophiroxiaActually the Alaskan constitution (yes every state has a constitution) says that every Alaskan OWNS every bit of the oil underneath the ground. The oil companies then essentially lease the oil from underneath the ground FROM all the Alaskans and that is invested in the stock market. The profits of that are then distributed amongst the Alaskan people because they all own an equal part of it. In any other state, if the oil company had the land, then they would own all oil rights beneath the ground they owned.
It would be socialism if the government controlled it and interfered with it in any way. In this case, the Alaskan people profit directly from their investment of what they own--just like any other investor.

Oh please...
November 23, 2008 - 12:31 ET by JRJ08The last time I checked, Alaska was part of the United States. It hasn't seceded yet, despite Todd's efforts. The natural resources being taken out of the ground there are owned by the companies who lease that land and invest in the equipment that gets the oil. If Alaska is going to take hundreds of millions of dollars in earmarks from the federal government, then it should share its oil graft with the other 49 states, rather than operate like a sovereign socialist state.

So, a liar AND stupid. A great one two punch ya got there fella.

I can't believe that, like Alaska, the citizens of California are allowing the oil companies to rape their lands and steal their oil from places like Kern County which, by itself, has 50 oil fields!
If California is going to take TENS OF BILLIONS of dollars in earmarks from the federal government, then it should share its oil graft with the other 49 states, rather than operate like a sovereign socialist state, wouldn't you agree?

Palin didn't fail
November 22, 2008 - 19:30 ET by jackie3I found the AP's constant failure to use proper terms when referring to former candidates annoying. No other candidate is constantly bashed the way Palin is. There is no reason for it and the news is just going to drive that bias rating up to 90 percent.
In my case, it was Palin that was my deciding factor. McCain was always too moderate even for me. (And I'm moderate). Palin, I could relate too. I could admire her strength and resolve even in the face a out-right verbal attacks by the media. I voted for McCain because of Palin. If McCain had chosen another "good old boy" I would have voted Libertarian or Independent party.
This woman has courage! She is far from stupid despite the media's best efforts to portray her as such. remember, it's Obama who doesn't know how many states are in the union. Who constantly spoke the wrong names of cities during his tours. Who speaks volumes about absolutely nothing.
Palin is a breath of fresh air in the world of politics. No nonsense, tough and still a lady. Doesn't come across as rude Rosie and her ex-View pales. Palin is still being hounded because she has class. far more class than most celebrities and far more class than Hillary Clinton.
Remember how the media loves Hillary? Now how many citizens love Hillary? She never made it to even be the Dem nominee but the news never say that she "failed."
The AP is failing to acknowledge people in this country are indeed ready for change. Just not the type of "change" the communist media is flaunting.
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large groups.

Hmmm, If Palin decides to run...
November 23, 2008 - 13:59 ET by CobraManHmmm, If Palin decides to run in 2012, I wonder if the AP will continue its biased reporting and continue to print blatant slurs against her? That's the real issue here, the fact that a "reputable" news source, one used in hundreds of newspapers across the US, is EXTREMELY biased against a particular candidate simply because of his or her political affiliations.
The AP is willing, and even eager, to use derogatory statements and descriptions in order to denigrate the personal character and/or accomplishments of a candidate of which they do not support, past or present. This "politically wounded," "failed Republican"" description is but a brief prelude of what 2012 will bring when Obama runs for reelection.
Obama: My job is above my pay grade
I'll always be grateful to
November 22, 2008 - 20:18 ET by RR GOPI'll always be grateful to Senator McCain for picking Sarah Palin, whether she runs again or not.
That speech she gave at the RNC was priceless-she burned a certain Obama orifice big time (Fred Thompson didn't do half bad, either).

November 22, 2008 - 21:42 ET by andophiroxia...because he's had friends that either blame her, call her stupid, etc. etc. So, he took a look at the timeline in general regards to Palin.
I think if I remember right from his show, Time even wrote about how the Obama campaign derailed for a bit due to her being introduced. The spotlight was on her, not him anymore. Not only that, the donations to the campaign skyrocketed.
Elder thinks the economic crisis did McCain in, because he was actually surging for a bit before then.

Even though you discredit
November 23, 2008 - 12:42 ET by JRJ08Even though you discredit yourself with your admission that you think GWB was "a great president", I'll go a step further. If you think Sarah Palin actually wrote a single word of her convention speech, then I'd like to sell you some beachfront property -- in Alaska. Actually, it's an island, but you'll be able to see Russia from your kitchen, which will make you a foreign policy expert. And, by the way, John McCain did NOT pick Sarah Palin to be his running-mate. It is a well-known fact that Fred Barnes and Bill Kristol visited her back in 2007, during their Alaskan cruise. They then had Bjork, Morris and a few other RNC bigwigs visit her, and it was they who put her name in the hat. John McCain simply followed the orders of his party and, without any vetting, named a total idiot as his running-mate. The only times Palin sounded like she had half a brain was when she was reading off a teleprompter or from prepared notes. Obviously, her intense training as television sportscaster prepared her for the rigors of national office. As far as George Bush is concerned, he will go down in history as the worst president. Saying that you think he was great speaks volumes about your critical skills and standards.
→ So last year
November 23, 2008 - 12:52 ET by Cool ArrowSpeaking of total idiot running mates, you have yet to explain whether you believe black children in DC are genetically stupid, or you believe they are culturally inferior.
You see, JRJ, I only ask because you're attacking the losing ticket and finding no fault with the winning ticket.
Now, explain why Joe Biden's claim that black children are inferior students is something you don't need to address.
Are you as racist as Joe Biden? Obviously Obama had no problem with Biden's statement, so he believes it also.
→ Wow JRJ!
November 23, 2008 - 16:00 ET by Cool ArrowI figured by the time I got back from church and watch a half of the football game you'd at least say something in defense of the black children of Washington DC whom your choice for VP (Joe Biden) labelled inferior.
But no, you slink away to other comments you feel more comfortable dealing with.
It's obvious how both you and Joe Biden feel now. So keep up your tirade against Sarah Palin, but it doesn't hide your true feelings about race in America.
You don't like Palin
November 23, 2008 - 13:02 ET by CobraManYou don't like Palin, we got that, but you're exposing your bias against Republicans in general , and your "liberal" roots in general, when you continually denigrate her intelligence while ignoring her successes.
Sarah Palin is far from the idiot you portray her to be. You don't rise up from relative obscurity and become first a mayor and then a governor by being stupid. The mere fact that you continue to berate her tells me that you think she's a real threat to Obama in 2012.
Oh, an you may think that Bush was a failure too, but 2, count them: 2, terms in office does not a failure make. But don't let reality get the way of your biased opinions of Republican leaders like Palin and Bush.
You may go back to your anti-conservative rantings now.

Did this country just elect Obama/Biden, or was it Soros/Ayers?
JRJ08
November 23, 2008 - 14:10 ET by MrShyYou're a complete buffoon, as are about 57 million others in this country, duped by the criminal media's full-court-press propaganda engine, put in high gear this election season to thoroughly discredit the GOP ticket.
Meanwhile, the democrat ticket, with the filthy MSM and corrupt organizations like ACORN under it's wings, was pushed through and will be occupying the White House come January 20th. It stuns all of us here on the right side of the aisle, because these two -- Obama and Biden -- have to be the biggest jokes to ever win a Prez/VP election. EVER.
Biden is the most thick-headed dunce who reeks (to anyone with an ounce of good instincts about people) with old-politics sleaze. He seems less believable and trustworthy than a bad used-car salesman, and the only success on his resume is winning the same tiny state over and over, that goes Democrat by default anyway. He's a washed-up, stupid, do-nothing crony DC politician.
As for Obama, you've heard it all already, but you're completely blind to any of it even though all the evidence is there. He has ZERO qualifications and was ushered through because of the color of his skin, period. He's also not very bright at all and has nothing on his resume, not to mention he's the FURTHEST THING from "change" or going against "politics as usual". He's a total fabrication of something new/outside-the-beltway. He's a dime-a-dozen politician, all the way, 100%, courtesy of the low-life Chicago political machine. Oh, not to mention, he has no integrity whatsoever, and has only exhibited extremely poor decision-making and judge-of-character skills (and you know the long list already.)
Meanwhile, Palin is the most authentic breath of fresh air and a TRUE DC-outsider, who's incredibly smart and driven and an amazingly successful governor. She also rose to power completely on her own and not the coattails of any person or group/organization.
Bush, while flawed and not the most eloquent speaker, is a fine man and is/was a very good president. Again, as with Palin, the MSM has been stealth in its efforts to totally cover up all the good he has done -- and there is a whole heck of a lot -- and it's disgusting. The man has integrity and was probably the perfect, strong leader this nation needed after 9/11. I shudder to think where we'd be if Gore was in charge after that horrible tragedy. He has made this country and the world safer from radical Islam, has done a yeoman's job in cleaning up good chunks of the Middle East, has been applauded for his amazing compassion and tireless work in aiding the poor and hungry in Africa, kept our economy on an even keel for several years post-9/11 (which was an achievement), and unemployment remained at relatively low levels throughout his presidency, around 6 - 6.5 %.
But to a fool like you, they're losers, and the two clowns who won on November 4th -- no thanks to any legitimate qualifications or abilities or integrity or smarts of their own, and all thanks to the machines around them determined to get them elected -- are astoundingly off-limits to derision.

And, unless you have a crystal ball installed in your ass, you have no idea what Gore might have done. At least Gore was a legitimate veteran. Bush has presided over the greatest decline of the economy in our country's history and appointed people whose gross incompetence gave us things like the debacle in New Orleans. He's the man who chose a total incompetent to be on the Supreme Court, or have you forgotten Harriet Myers? You call people "fools" while proving yourself to be one. Especially when you say that Sarah Palin is "an authentic breath of fresh air". My God, the woman hasn't the brains of a high school drop-out, and she proves that every time she steps in front of a microphone without the aid of a teleprompter. I will admit that we've seen nothing like her before in national politics. Nobody that ignorant has even been chosen to be on a national ticket. My opinions of Palin have not come from journalists, the evil "MSM", or talking heads reading the news. They have come directly from Palin's own mouth. If you've understood any of her incoherent sentences, then maybe you should apply for the job of interpreting for her, because she sure needs it. And, while you're at it, you might advise her that when she states in an interview that she's giving a pardon to a turkey, it's not a brilliant idea to say later in the same interview that she's going to take that turkey home and feed it to her brood on Thanksgiving. As far as Joe Biden is concerned, there are many Senators from your side of aisle (or trench) that disagree with your ham-fisted assessment of his character and abilities. But, then again, you're not here to deal with the facts. Just your hateful ideology, which isn't even attuned to your own political party. You might ask yourself why people, such as Peggy Noonan, George Will, Kathleen Parker, Scott McClellan, Christopher Buckley, Colin Powell, Brent Skowcroft, David Brookes, Susan Eisenhower, and Ken Dubenstein would disagree with just about every word of your post. But, of course, you would never do that because their answers would be too painful for you to contemplate. The McCain/Palin ticket lost this election for two reasons: John McCain and Sarah Palin. The sooner you and the GOP make an honest effort to understand why those 57 million Americans rejected them, the sooner you'll get your collect heads out of your ass and put up a candidate capable of winning an election. Until then, all your blowhard diatribes and absurd insults are just spitballs against a battleship.

But you're interesting in that you seem to hate Palin so much you'd think she had broke off a long term relationship. This is what some people I know have done after a really bad breakup. Its not enough that THEY hate someone, they have to make sure everyone else does too.

JRJ08 do you have a CLUE
November 23, 2008 - 15:25 ET by choselife3xWhy they shoot wolves in Alaska? Wolves ARE NOT ENDANGERED in their state. They have a very healthy population which the residents control so the moose herds don't get wiped out. Moose/caribou is a staple of Alaskan diet. What should they do, starve? Do you have any idea how expensive imported meat is there? Should they have to struggle 10 miles across the snow in subzero temps to the grocery store or shoot a winter's worth of meat in their backyard? Would you want a pack of hungry wolves milling around waiting for you and your children to come out because they've eaten all the moose? Idiot.
In order to be pro-choice, one must first be born. Ah, the irony.
What is this? Wild Kingdom?
November 23, 2008 - 16:54 ET by JRJ08Your question makes two presumptions: that I don't know anything about wild-life in Alaska, and that I have never been a hunter. Neither are true or relevant to my point. I've eaten moose, caribou, antelope and venison, and I come from three generations of hunters. Not everybody who disagrees with you people is a member of PETA. The point is that Sarah Palin ran for national office in a country where the majority of people no longer think shooting animals from a helicopter is an admirable past-time for a politician-- especially when said politician doesn't have to hunt in order to eat. Now, you and your party can go right ahead and ignore that, just like Palin did, and your candidate will never win a national election. OK by me. You win the battle, and lose the war. As far as the cost of imported meat in Alaska is concerned, I think most citizens can afford it considering they have no state tax or local property taxes to pay, and receive an annual stipend from oil companies. My property taxes alone are $7,000/year.
→ Link please JRJ
November 23, 2008 - 17:16 ET by Cool ArrowCan you give us a link to the story where Sarah Palin has shot a Polar Bear?
Not that I mind, I'm just checking the honesty of your post.
Has Sarah Palin shot any wolves
November 23, 2008 - 17:27 ET by choselife3xFrom a helicopter? I'd love to see a link to that. I don't think any Alaskans see shooting wolves as an 'admirable pastime'. It is simply what must be done to maintain the moose population at a level that can support the locals. As governor Mrs. Palin protected the citizens right to provide for their families.
Sarah Palin ran for Governor of Alaska. She was INVITED to join the Republican ticket. She almost dragged that RINO across the finish line but he reached across the aisle, got his arms chewed off and bled out before she could drag his lame carcass across.
Why don't you show us the stats to back up your claim that Alaskans are so flush with cash?
You know, eating a moose from your backyard is far more 'green' than shipping dead cow from 1,000 miles away. Why aren't liberals cheering all those 'locavore' Alaskans?
In order to be pro-choice, one must first be born. Ah, the irony.

November 23, 2008 - 20:06 ET by Cool ArrowHaving given JRJ08 multiple opportunities in this thread to denounce and renounce the racist opinion of Joe Biden concerning black school children, we can honestly conclude JRJ08 agrees with Biden's claim that black school children are either intellectually, or culturally inferior.
Strange, isn't it, that in the same thread JRJ08 tries to deflect his obvious racism by claiming other posters in the same thread are guilty of it?
Think this through with me. Obama/Biden have already won, and JRJ08 has nothing to lose by speaking out against Biden's racist words. Yet JRJ08 refuses to respond to Joe Biden's indictment against black school children.
So if at some later time JRJ08 finds it convenient to address the issue, please remember he refused to stand up when it really counted.
Instead, JRJ08 used what little talent he had to call the Governor of Alaska stupid.

Warner
November 24, 2008 - 03:52 ET by shawn228You are right, many of the comments are her calling people names and that was not until later in response to the name calling she was receiving.

November 24, 2008 - 04:51 ET by Warner Todd HustonI have to admit another thing. I am a vet of the old message board wars of the mid to late 1990s when message boards were everywhere.
I was responsible for leading a small group of conservatives that succeeded in practically destroying half a dozen lefty boards. It was vicious work, for sure (on both sides.) Yet, even at its worst, my group steadfastly refused to engage in foul language and cursing.
Still, one of the reasons I stay off the comments at NB (for the most part) is because it is all too easy to fall back into the attack mode that I got so used to for so many years on message boards.
I need to temper it and move away from that attack dogedness.
As to my screen name... I just came up with it out of no where. I don't know where it came from. It just hit me one day. LOL
Seriously, one of the reasons I use my actual name is so that it serves to remind me that what I say will reflect on me, that I am not hiding behind a fake name. It tends to make me think a tad more about what I say.
Wow Warner

Oh, BELIEVE ME
November 24, 2008 - 08:26 ET by Warner Todd HustonOh, BELIEVE me: I am holding back.
As to "taking down" it wasn't anything hackerish, if that is what you mean. What we'd do is find one that was smarter than most, engage for a while in straight debate. Gather at least 1/3 of the lefty members that decided we were "good" because we didn't just name call, then take that 1/3 and use them against the mods and board coffee klatch favorites and cause them to lose their status as the "trusted" leaders. To turn them against the rest, we would up the ante a bit in heated debate and when the mods would start to censor us we'd cry "unfair" and point out that their claims of free speech and fairness was based on a lie, that they really only wanted their own ideas promulgated.
It usually got so bad with the in fighting amongst the lefties that they would ban us. This would cause the 1/3 that kept sticking up for us to quit the board too, disgusted that the place wasn't "the same open minded place" anymore. Some times a few smaller, less trafficked sites would form out of the ashes but none of them would ever get as big again.
It would often take as long as 6 months, but the eventual goal was to take a lefty site that was pretty busy and drive the traffic down to nothing.
It worked several times. I can think of at least four very heavily visited sites that ended up being shut down and deleted over the war.
Now THOSE were some fun days!
After its all said and done, though. it was only for fun. It never did anything to seriously promulgate our own ideas. That is why I dumped that activity in favor of writing op eds and articles. There just wasn't any real substance to the interaction.
Lastly, it became patently obvious that every message board was EXACTLY the same of three types. #1) stupid with not a soul having half a brain. #2) smart or not this one was nothing but scream fests, curse filled and obscene, or #3) smart, sure, but always the same ideas. Nothing ever new. Same arguments, same points, same, same, same.
I lost my interest in message boards because there was never a thing new on them.
Hi Warner
November 24, 2008 - 12:29 ET by shawn228No I knew exactly what you meant. I guess it does go to show that there were some liberal members of the message boards that were open to a different point of view eh? ;-)
Now right back at you, I'm not sure if you are implying anything but I would never try to turn anyone against the mods on this site, because I respect them and love the fact that they allow free speech on here. I also believe that 80 percent of the members on here are open to good debate.
Even the members on this site that I have the most problems with, the ones that name call and deflect the question, I have no interest in having them leave the site, it would be definitely be less interesting if they were not on here, I just like to point out their tactics and hope people notice they are no better the media bias they are so staunchly against.

I was "implying" nothing.
November 24, 2008 - 21:26 ET by Warner Todd HustonI was "implying" nothing. What you infer is something else, again. I was speaking solely of myself and my past life on message boards.
And, yes, there were plenty of liberals on those boards that were open to honest debate. I even turned a few self-professed liberals into right leaning centrists.
But, the mods and board owners were NEVER those sort. They were always straight left, socialistic, liberals. That's why it was fun to ruin their day.
Of course, we all have to face a singularly annoying fact. We ALL have folks ostensibly on our side that we are embarrassed at.

November 24, 2008 - 09:45 ET by choselife3xI found this site a week before the election and loved it. The writing is great and I enjoyed reading the debates in the comment section. If it were just a bunch of us conservatives sitting around agreeing with each other it would be boring. Debating an opposing viewpoint is, well, fun. I did it in college all the time. There was never any vitriol because we were all reasonable people who liked and respected each other. I don't care if someone else doesn't think the way I do, I just resent them doing it with a sneer. And no matter who you are, you have to admit that the liberals you see on TV and in print are sneering.
In order to be pro-choice, one must first be born. Ah, the irony.
Point taken...
November 24, 2008 - 12:16 ET by JRJ08You're right, of course. The name calling is just a symptom of frustration. I suppose I fell into it when I realized there was no real point in being here other than to irritate the natives. But the whole notion of calling someone names in an anonymous forum is silly because, at the end of the day, it doesn't really irritate anyone at all. Politics is a highly volatile subject in the friendliest environment, so we're no doubt seeing the worst of each other here. Not to call for or expect a 'kumbaya' moment on this of all blogs, but I think that I and everybody else here should try to remember that we're all Americans, trying to get by and hoping that whomever is in charge will do the right thing by us and our families. There are no guarantees that will happen, regardless of who is in the White House. We should also remember that most of what we hear during presidential campaigns is designed to pander to our personal fears and hopes-- by both sides. Not the best time to be drawing any permanent conclusions about anything or anybody, I don't think.

I think you'll agree that
November 24, 2008 - 12:48 ET by JRJ08I think you'll agree that getting into who launched the name calling wouldn't be productive.
I'm not sure that "arguing policy" is always the right way to go. Personally, I never really had a problem with many of John McCain's policies. Certainly, I was for his campaign finance reform, and at least he made an effort to solve the illegal immigration issue. My problem with McCain had more to do with his temperament. He has a well-earned reputation of being a pugnacious, volatile personality, and his favorite term of endearment is "jerk". I just didn't think he was emotionally suited to be Commander-in-Chief in a world with so many antagonists trying to bait us into problems we dont' need.
While I didn't know much about Palin's politics when McCain introduced her (who did?), it was quite obvious that she wasn't the greatest communicator who had ever run for national office, and she seemed terribly uninformed about too many things to be running on a ticket with a candidate who would have been the oldest president-elect in our history. The Couric interviews convinced me that she wasn't smart enough to deal with the most benign questions. As governor of the state ranked 47th in population, she might be completely acceptable, but times are just too precarious to have such a provincial non-thinker in the White House.
So, while it's always desirable to argue about more tangible issues such as a candidate's policy proposals and track record, those details are not necessarily the only factors a voter should take into consideration. You can share someone's politics, but still believe that they would be a poor choice.
Not so sure

My point of view about his temperament comes from film clips I've seen of him, and on-camera statements made by several senators from his side of the aisle. November 24, 2008 - 14:12 ET by choselife3xA lot of conservatives have a problem with McCain's policies. I'm not sure about his temperment as opposed to Obama and the birds though. Which do you think would insult Putin more?
Regarding Palin, I am inclined not to put a lot of weight on interview performances per se. Public speaking comes naturally to few, especially when facing a hostile person on national television. Practice will take care of that. I don't consider those situations a reflection on her intelligence.
I like where she stands on the core issues of her party. I like what she has accomplished as a Governor. That is why I support her.
In order to be pro-choice, one must first be born. Ah, the irony.
One-on-one interviews are
November 26, 2008 - 12:33 ET by JRJ08One-on-one interviews are NOT "public speaking" engagements. When an interviewer asks a person simple, direct questions about themselves, and that person is unable to form coherent, complete sentences that even come close to answering those questions, that's an indication of a deficiency, especially when you consider that we're talking about an individual who has been in the public eye for the last 25 years. I've yet to see an interview where Palin hasn't spoken in nearly indecipherable sentence fragments. Usually, she sounds like a high school drop-out trying to talk like a PH.d. The result is a faux intelligence and "excessive decisiveness." Dopes often think stupid ideas and content-free sentences will sound smart if they're spoken with real conviction. I would think that articulateness would be a fundamental requirement for any elected official at the national level. So, I believe that many people did put a lot of weight on her performances in those several interviews, as well as the divisive tone she took in her rally speeches. That's why her favorables dropped so drastically in the weeks following the convention. Today, the people who "love" Palin will continue to do so no matter what she says or does. She has nothing to prove and no expectations at all. A wiser person would have gone back to their state after the election and immediately began to demonstrate that they were a first-rate chief executive who is focused on their state's problems. Presumably, Alaska has a few. Instead, after three months away from her state, Palin is doing everything she can to remain in the national limelight, including campaigning in Georgia.
Clearly, a lot of "conservatives" had problems with McCain's policies. He was perceived as too moderate by the right-wing of the party, which was why he agreed to accept Sarah Palin as his running-mate. If he had picked almost anybody else, he might have had a chance to win the election.

This distortion, which you've repeated here several times, was discredited long ago as another statement which was taken out of context and seized upon by political opponents. Repeating it over and over again will not make it true. A similar tactic was used when Obama was called a socialist and Marxist after he made his "share the wealth" comment to Joe-the-Liar. Ironically, what we're all hearing now is what I fully expected to hear: that many of the economic proposals made by both sides during the campaign are no longer viable because the economic situation has deteriorated to a point that they wouldn't have been sufficient anyway. The real question for you is, if Joe Biden was a genuine racist who thought African-American children were inherently less intelligent than caucasian kids, do you actually believe Obama would have chosen him as a running-mate? November 24, 2008 - 14:00 ET by HermanoDistortion?!? Like Joe-the Liar?!? Like Palin is stupid?!? Joe the plumber said he was hoping to start his own plumbing company. The media made it sound as it he "lied" because they heard "he owns his own plumbing company." To boot, they added "he doesn't have a license." Palin has run the Alaskan government to an 80% approval rating. To the media, she is stupid and cannot carry a thought in her head. She is obviously doing something right in her state, and if that makes her stupid, then we need more leaders who are that stupid.
You, my friend, say you listen to what they say, but you do it through the media's filter. As far as your common sense statement about racism, the most racist people I know are black, so it is not surprising that 0bama would select such a person. Either that or he did not think it would matter. Common sense is something I do not expect of my elected officials since they have proven over and over again that they have very little to spare.
