In reporting the speech by Gov. Sarah Palin in Ohio today, CNN’s Political Ticker tried to spin her question about Obama’s coal comment as old news when it clearly isn’t. Palin asked why we are just now finding out about the interview where Barack Obama said he had hoped to bankrupt the coal industry but CNN termed this interview and Obama’s startling admission as “months-old coal comments” in an attempt to soften the blow to Ohio and Pennsylvania voters. The Political Ticker said that since the San Francisco Chronicle had these comments on its website for nine months, the news of Obama’s quote was no big deal. But this is a misleading claim.
As we know from P.J. Gladnick’s NewsBusters report, Obama admitted that his intention for new coal plants was to slap so many fees, regulations and taxes on any new venture that it would “bankrupt” the company that tries it.
Palin, stumping Sunday in Ohio’s coal country, brought this interview up at a campaign appearance in Marietta, Ohio. “Why is the audio tape just now surfacing?,” she asked the shocked crowd.
CNN scoffed at Palin’s question and tried to spin the story away as “old news.”
Contrary to her attempts to portray a media cover-up, audio and video recordings of Obama’s January 17 sit-down with the Chronicle editorial board have been freely available online for more than nine months.
However, we know this to be misleading based on the fact that, while the audio was available, the paper did not report these quotes from Obama in its January story. NewsBuster Tom Blumer did a search and quickly discovered that Obama’s anti-coal comments were not reported by the paper that conducted the interview.
The problem with CNN’s spin here is that these are really not “months-old comments” in the strictest sense that we were all made familiar with Obama’s anti-coal comments back in January. Since January, the San Francisco Chronicle has steadfastly left these incendiary comments entirely out of its coverage.
CNN’s cynical spin is simply misleading and seems meant to give cover to the Obama campaign on this embarrassing revelation. After all, even if they are “months-old comments,” does that make the fact that Obama wants to bankrupt electric producing coal plants any less outrageous or important? Or, for that matter, any less relevant to this election? Whether Obama said it just yesterday or said it 9 months ago is immaterial to the debate here.

November 2, 2008 - 22:16 ET by Josh SNThe National Aeronautics and Space Administration, or NASA, has a division called the Goddard Institute for Space Studies. They have a website where you can learn what will happen to "my favorite planet" (known to Englihs-speakers as Earth) if we keep dumping CO2 into the atmosphere at any significant rate.
It looks like the Arctic Ice Sheet and the ice over Greenland won't last for 50 years, and they won't come back in the next 1000.

November 2, 2008 - 22:36 ET by ThatDudeAh, I really do miss the global warming debate.(it's actually what lured me to start visiting this site) Are we waiting to see how this winter goes before more studies and such come out? It can be something of a concern when the few conservative outlets get quiet for any period of time on a topic. I should hope that this site would be able to man up if absolute proof of AGW came out rather than brush the whole debate under the rug. Unless that happens to be the case, it's nice to see data come out to support that man's influence on climate are limited every once in a while. If the debate can't be truly resolved by science (no Gore, you can stfu about a consensus) then at least there should be a heavier discussion on how politics can or should be allowed to be involved. Taxing an industry into submission while claiming that it's to save the planet is a ridiculous thing to suggest. Personally, I'd rather wait out the results and deal with what happens than go overboard in trying to solve a problem that may or may not exist.
The greatest harm can result from the best intentions.

The senior vice president of the West Virginia Coal Association called Obama's comments "unbelievable."
"His comments are unfortunate," Chris Hamilton said Sunday, "and really reflect a very uninformed voice and perspective to coal specifically and energy generally."
Hamilton noted other times Obama and vice presidential candidate Joe Biden have made seemingly anti-coal statements. According to the West Virginia Office of Miners' Health, Safety and Training, the coal industry provides about 40,000 direct jobs in the state, including those for miners, mine contractors, coal preparation plant employees and mine supply company workers.
A lot of people could lose a lot of jobs if obama is elected.

I almost destroyed my computer monitor. Where was the CNN headline that read "Drive by media attacks Sarah on Months old Bridge" or "Drive bys attack Sarah for clothing she never purchased". No no no, those were all relevant up to the minute reports. If something may be damaging to Obama it's old news to CNN. How about when a 16 year old Kid meets up with Obama next year to plan an attack on America CNN says, "Kid meets a man who planned terrorist attack when he was 8". CNN is not the clinton new network that so many claim it is. It is the Communist New Network and they should be ashamed of the garbage they've spewed and of the way they have carried Water for the Obama campaign

November 2, 2008 - 22:26 ET by ThisnThatCNN has a history of pandering to keep access. Look at how they suppressed news to keep close to Saddam. And, given Obama's recent actions (banning TV stations; kicking people off of planes; investigating any citizen who asks questions), CNN easily assumes the role of ass-kisser to Obama.
Given that this is CNN, though, I wonder if Obama even had to threaten them. Instead, they probably signed a pact; blast McCain on everything; ignore or explain away anything that threatens Obama -- and when elected, CNN will get favorable treatment.

The reality of Coal
November 2, 2008 - 22:46 ET by Lame CherryOne of the many reasons I got banned from the Huffington site was exposing that Arianna Huffington has blood on her hands concerning the coal industry.
None of the pretty Obama people want coal plants in their backyards, but instead expect people of the Great Plains to suck on coal pollution and get sick from it.
I know coal and I know coal plants which were burning medical waste and other nasty crap to cut costs all so those big electric lines could funnel into Chicago to run Obama's mansion.
Let me explain the reason Obama is bad and it deals with what I pointed out before. Obama is going to wage economic warfare on industries and people he doesn't like. THAT IS WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE BANKRUPTING COAL.
The entire problem with the coal industry is Bill Clinton due to bribes shut down our big coal deposits in Utah so his Indonesian buddies could sell coal at spiked prices as the Chinese are in the market now bidding up all resources. That Chinese problem is what will doom coal as it will cost too much for consumers to buy electricity.
This fiasco started because Huffington, Obama and other pretty eastern types decided they would burn up cheap natural gas as it was clean for their electricity.
The net result was a shortage of supply which drove up GAS prices in cars as an excuse too in this vicious cycle.
The next problem was as everyone remembers those miners all dying in accidents. Coal companies not having revenue could not upgrade in normal ways and the mines pushed the limits.
So the dead coal miners are because Huffington and her Obama cronies were burning up natural gas so people now have huge bills in that and dead coal miners due to mine safety.
As I have warned, that is the danger of Barack Obama in he is going to destroy industries on whims like Castro does in Cuba. Tell that to the hundreds of thousands of families who depend upon coal for their paychecks and tell that to the tens of millions of US citizens who depend on coal electricity (The US creates 49% of it's electricity via coal.)
This isn't just coal. This is the entire communities from hospitals, taxes for schools, roads, Walmart which depends on coal paychecks.
Add to that, it is the railroads which depend on that huge profit structure to ship other goods cheaply.
This affects every American this Obama war on coal.
I fully realize there is a monopoly and it is filthy in coal mining, rail and coal plants all carving a fortune out of this. I don't like it and I will fight every coal plant there is as the power industry has told me they have looked at things like my gravitational hydro electric system but won't build the thing even though it is cheaper due to the monopoly structure.
As the wood industry can build woodstoves which burn clean, the same effect can be created to burn coal 99% clean. Coal plants are marvels everyone should tour. They actually are living creatures they feel like. The entire furnace and boiler literally floats on massive steel springs and moves constantly. It roars in a way so loud you can't hear people talk when standing by that intense heat. The coal dust is fine and everywhere. They are amazing things.
BUT you make them better by grabbing them by the ear and threatening them in private. You do not bankrupt an industry as people depend on it and burning coal hurts nothing in the current system. It is a good way to free up that carbon and oxygen to our depleted atmosphere.
I have written papers on this stating that the earth has been hoarding carbons and water depleting our atmosphere making it less healthy for people, animals and plants. Records show people were living hundreds of years not that long ago. That all changed when the atmosphere changed.
The earth creates the natural pollution of coal, calcium deposits like the White Cliffs of Dover, crude oil, methane ice and natural gas as a natural apparatus of the earth. People or nature has to burn this pollution releasing the water and carbon back into the cycle or we start drying out which is the process occurring currently the past several thousand years.
Obama is interfering with a needed natural process. The correct process is building more coal plants in the east coast to free up natural gas to lower prices for all Americans.
Just pump air into coal fumes and they burn hotter and more clean.

"No big deal"
November 3, 2008 - 00:33 ET by needle"CNN Spins Obama Wanting to Bankrupt Coal Industry as Old News"
Sure, this is old news. Why, everybody I know has mentioned it from time to time for months. It’s no big deal. And while we are at it, neither is Bill Ayers; he’s just a guy in the neighborhood.

He won't just bankrupt the
November 3, 2008 - 00:34 ET by mattmHe won't just bankrupt the coal industry, his socialism will bankrupt America.
When the Bush tax cuts expire or are repealed, it will cost the average working family at least $1700/year. Retirees living off their 401ks will pay an extra $150 for every thousand they receive in dividends. The massive spending increases will reduce the value of a dollar even more. Protectionist trade policies will hurt the industrial base and the union workers who work for them. More intrusive regulations will force companies to either layoff workers or fold. In short, this punk is going to make the Carter years look like a picnic.
God help us all.
rich white Republicans

And there you have the 'Change You Can Believe In' that Obama keeps promising. The charismatic Hitler had the 'rich Jews' as the enemy of the State, the charismatic Obama has the 'rich white Republicans' as the enemy of the State.

How to Gaffe Without Really Trying
November 3, 2008 - 00:35 ET by third eye"So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can; it's
just that it will bankrupt them because they're going to be charged a
huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that's being emitted." Barack Obama
That sounds great...Id love to pay 3 or 4 times more for energy.

First coal generated electricity, then
November 3, 2008 - 10:18 ET by SentryDanFirst coal generated electricity, then what, steel? What about natural gas for electricity, will that come into play also? No coal, no natural gas, no nuclear, no drilling for oil. What's left, wind and solar? How much electricity is generated on cloudy days or days with no winds sufficient to turn the turbine blades?
Sounds like Obama wants us to become more dependent on Arab oil or oil from his socialist friends.
Sounds like Obama is pushing for a world socialist order or a world Islamic order. Which is it?
