Like Obama, the folks that run The Stranger "newspaper" in Seattle are all about tolerance... as long as you believe the same things they believe. If you don't, well, then you deserve intimidation and a good "outing." just as Obama has tried to intimidate radio talk show hosts, just like he has tried to use the office of the Attorney General to quash political free speech, The Stanger publication has decided that the best way to force citizens of Seattle to toe the far left political line is to have their homes photographed and their addresses made public for the outrageous crime of having a McCain/Palin sign on their property.
Editorial Director Dan Savage, another boring Seattle gay activist, has helmed this intimidation disguised as "humor" in order to attack his political opposition. Good thing ol' Danny is all "tolerant" and stuff, isn't it?
The feature was supposed to be a "funny" take on the Halloween "horrors" of homes that have political signs prominently displayed. But, what the end result actually relays is a different kind of horror. This article indulges in exactly the sort of behavior it pretends to despise. What is more intolerant than publicly ridiculing someone, ginning up hatred for them, and then publishing a photo and the address of their home? What is the purpose of this? Is it so that the more unhinged of your putative political compatriots can know just where to go to... what? Take revenge? Perhaps damage private property? Maybe worse?
The article starts off with this phrase: "Cobwebs and witches are for children and morons." I would counter to Dan Savage that political intimidation and endangering people because of their views is for Stalinists and Nazis.
Apparently Savage is not only this editor's last name, it is his creed.

Looks like the wimps over at the gay centered "newspaper" The Stranger don't have the courage of their convictions, amusingly enough. They've pulled their story and re-directed the link to The Drudge homepage.
Apparently, the Stranger folks just can't take the scorn any more. They know what they did was indefensible and now they are pretending it never existed.
One thing is sure. If I had a dollar for every time the curse word f_ _k appeared in this "newspaper" I could comfortably retire after but a month of issues. Apparently literacy is a four letter word to these high-minded inteleckshuals.
If you'd like to read the text Hell Houses, the story from The Stranger, G'Willie over at GEOBENT took the time to reproduce it before the "newspaper" took it down.

November 1, 2008 - 19:59 ET by SentryDanI just got through reading a headline on the Drudge Report and then watched a video on YouTube. It is a very scary sceniro. Here is the link to the YouTube video and the headline from the Drudge Report page.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tt2yGzHfy7s
Obama Vows To Create 'Civilian National Security Force'...
And here is what Obama was talking about.
Obama said he wants to create a Civilian National Security Force. This force would be the size of the current armed forces and it's budget would be as large as the current Defense budget. It would be just as powerful and just as strong as the current military.
This raises some very important questions. First, why would we need a Civilian National Security Force when we already have a National Guard? Second, couldn't Obama just increase the size of the current armed forces to handle any new or existing situations that the country might face? Where would the manpower come from for this new security force? Would this security force be armed with weapons and would these weapons be the same that the U.S. Military has?
And as someone commented on the YouTube page, "Have you heard of the Homeland Security Department?"
Folks, We the People can't let Obama be elected POTUS. Elect McCain/Palin.
Remember folks, it's hard to soar with eagles when you are surrounded by a flock of turkeys.

November 1, 2008 - 20:39 ET by SentryDanI'm the new guy in town CD. And the video was the first time I had heard Obama's exact words. And it is only about the 3rd time I ever heard the CNSF mentioned. And what I did see in writing was nowhere close to what I heard on that video.
It sounds like from his words, that Obama wants to put some kind of "group" together that can counter the U.S. Military. Remember, there are lots of gangbangers out there and quite a few have had military service in OIF and OEF. In fact, not to long ago one of these gangbanger (who had been a Marine) killed a cop out in CA.
Again, why would the United States need a strong, powerful, well funded CNSF? We already have the National Guard, Reserve and active duty Military and there is also the FBI, Coast Guard, and Border Patrol. Why not just increase the size of these organizations? Why create a new security force? What would be its purpose?
Remember folks, it's hard to soar with eagles when you are surrounded by a flock of turkeys.
welcome to NB sentry
November 1, 2008 - 20:49 ET by candanceThere are so many folks here I can't keep up with everyone. I didn't mean to insult your intelligence before. :-)
Why would we need a civilian police force? Why for three simple reasons:
1) Undercover police can spy on and report people more efficiently.
2) Federal funding means the White House will have all the control and jurisdiction over what these people do.
3) Since they will not be soldiers or traditional police they will have their own rulebook.
And no, you haven't heard *anything* about it because the MSM is censoring it. We've kicked it around here a few times, but our resident libs have assured us that Obama is really a centrist who was just kidding about all those radical ideas.
Change is what you're left with when you've spent all your dollars.

November 1, 2008 - 21:02 ET by cocodrieThe impression I have is that this will be a national police force but a type of Non Governmental Organization that has no ties to local police nor to the military. The military will be severely weakened and held back while the national police keeps us in check. The whole country will be south side Chicago. Hussein can only hope to do this if he disarms honest citizens. Sounds far fetched, but what we are living through today was far fetched 30 years ago. NGOs have already enormous influence in the US today - Acorn, Sierra Club, Green Peace, etc. All will have a hand in ruling America if we let them.
Not so far fetched.
November 1, 2008 - 21:39 ET by SentryDanNo, the scenario isn't at all far fetched. There are too many of our fellow citizens who have been led to believe that the Freedoms we enjoy are guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution. That could not be further from the truth.
The "g" word is used only once (Art IV, Sect IV) in the Articles of the Constitution and not at all in the Bill of Rights. We the People are expected (by the Founding Fathers) to fight to keepthe rights outlined in the Bill of Rights.
When I enlisted in the service some 45 years ago, I swore to "Protect and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic." I'm now retired and I sure as hell hope I don't have to do the domestic part. However, I will do what is necessary to keep my Country free.

November 1, 2008 - 18:55 ET by Sergeant ROCKOther than name, there are no similarities that I can think of. Lincoln, for instance, was just as racist as anyone else at the time. He also started this country down the path of an all-powerful, centralized Federal Government.
Slave owners were hardly liberal. Neither were all slave owners located in the South. Neither were all of the slave owners white. And weirdly enough, there were black Confederate troops. Hmm.. there goes the 'slavery' argument touted by some.
PALIN/McCain 2008
Um... no..
November 1, 2008 - 19:07 ET by Warner Todd HustonThat isn't true in any way.
Lincoln was quite enlightened for his day. Just because he didn't think blacks were completely equal to whites does NOT mean he was "as racist as everyone else."
Don't fall for the revisionist BS that Lincoln was not against slavery. Lincoln made his career on being anti-slavery. He used the word almost 2,000 times in his papers and he never praised it. His most famous speeches in his day (Peoria, 1854, and the Cooper Union speech) were ALL about containing slavery so that it would die out. He was an anti-slavery man. He just wasn't a societal leveler.
Umm.. yes
November 1, 2008 - 19:19 ET by Sergeant ROCKWhile Lincoln was not pro-slavery, it was hardly a top priority for him. Five months before the Emancipation Proclaimation he had some vistors...
...[W]hy... should the people of your race be colonized, and where? Why should they leave the country? This is, perhaps, the first question for consideration. You and we are different races. We have between us a broader difference than exists between almost any other two races.... You here are freemen, I suppose... but even when you cease to be slaves, you are yet far removed from being placed on an equality with the white race.... Owing to the existence of the two races on this continent, I need not recount to you the effects upon white men growing out of the institution of slavery. I believe in its general evil effects on the white race.... But for your race among us there could not be war, although many men engaged on either side do not care for you one way or the other.... It is better for us both therefore to be separated.... (speech delivered at the Executive Mansion on 14 August 1862)
Later he said this:
"I have urged the colonization of the negroes, and I shall continue. My Emancipation Proclamation was linked with this plan. There is no room for two distinct races of white men in America, much less for two distinct races of whites and blacks. I can conceive of no greater calamity than the assimilation of the negro into our social and political life as our equal.... We can never attain the ideal union our fathers dreamed of, with millions of an alien, inferior race among us, whose assimilation is neither possible nor desirable" (address delivered at Washington, D.C.; in Roy P. Basler, The Collected Works of Abraham Lincoln, Volume V, pages 371-375).
So, it is you that is falling for the revisionist nonsense, not me.

November 1, 2008 - 19:23 ET by BlazerSarge, trust me. I live in the former Capitol of the Confederacy, and was raised on this whole thing, and it's still very alive and well today. I used to drape myself in the battleflag and followed the ideaology of "States Rights".
However in this case it is inherantly wrong. "The Union of the states must be made inseperable" thus said by Abraham lincoln. If he didn't hold to that belief and held us all intact, do you honestly believe we would be the nation we are today. I seriously doubt it,

Not buying it
November 1, 2008 - 19:37 ET by Sergeant ROCKYou're moving the goal post. My point is that Lincoln is not the God portrayed in public schools and revisionist education centers. Since you've changed the question from Lincoln to secession, did States have the right to secede from the Union? Indeed, they did. Why else was it a requirement to have to adopt amendments to be re-admitted to a Union that they had no right to secede from?
PALIN/McCain 2008
States certainly should
November 1, 2008 - 19:45 ET by BlazerStates certainly should have the right to secede from the Union, at least as far as the bill of rights and constitution are concerned, but "all men are created equal" so there for the Union was right, Confederacy was wrong, but if your whole argument is based on whether they should have that right in order to keep people in bondage, well then that's a whole different argument.

Inncorrect assumption
November 1, 2008 - 19:47 ET by Sergeant ROCKYou assume then that the war between the CSA and the USA was about 'slavery', that would be an inncorrect assumption. And further more, silly if you are implying that I would favor secession to maintain a right to enslave people. Nonsense.
Again, the point is that Lincoln is not the Messiah your public school touted him to be.

"You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. We must be cautious. "

" The Cake is a lie."
Then, what's the point?
November 1, 2008 - 20:24 ET by Sergeant ROCKYou are convinced that everything you have been told is absolutely correct. But I'll oblige you anyway...
The simple fact is that it had more to do with economics. Unfair taxation and tariffs. Southern states were not getting a fair return on those. Lincolns problem with secession was not so much the slavery issue, they were imported through Northern ports, but the fact the South was a 'cash cow' for the coffers of the Federal government. Weirdly enough, I believe New Jersey and a couple of other Yankee states had riots over seceding themselves. As far as slavery is concerned, if those that bought slaves from the North had been compensated for them, then they may well have been freed without incident. Of course, those that sold them got to keep the money.
In the end, it was a good thing that the tyrant won the war, because we wouldn't know how big a Federal government could get.

November 1, 2008 - 20:37 ET by candanceI've been reading this conversation in passing, and I gotta say you indeed seem to be pushing the confederate POV a bit unfairly. Yes it was complicated but many conferedate enthusiasts these days want to minimize the slavery aspect as much as possible, and that does a great disservice to our history.
When I was in high school in the south I found that many people to this day are bitter about it as a cultural thing, which I see coming out in your remark about being glad the tyrant won.
Change is what you're left with when you've spent all your dollars.
Good evening Candance
November 1, 2008 - 21:19 ET by cocodrieI grew up in the '50s and '60s in a mixed neighborhood and slavery was not an interest to any of us back then. Today some of my black friends are rather obsessed with it. I believe that the subject has been promoted by the likes of Jackson and Sharpton to advance the left-wing extremist political agenda. Most people today are uneducated concerning American and world history and are easily influenced by the distortions presented by those with an agenda. You are right about those who want to minimize slavery, but those who accentuate it are even worse - Farahkan and Jeremiah Wright come to mind, and there are many teaching in our schools.

Tyrant's usually do not side with people who are trying to keep other folks out of bondage, big gov. however want's to hold us all in bondage despite our skin color or creedence, this is why the Confederacy in my opinion was the birth of Communism.

Your problem is..
November 1, 2008 - 21:11 ET by Sergeant ROCK.. that you're being disingenuous about Lincoln, an apologist if you will. You gloss over the fact that he did not view blacks as being equal to that of the white race. And further, to suggest that they be deported as a solution. Those are facts. Slavery was only an issue when it threatened the Union as a whole. Had some compromise came about that preserved slavery, it would have been another President that resolved the issue.
Another problem with you apologists is that when you are faced with the truth about Lincoln, then you start blathering on about how then by pointing out these facts that makes you a slave owner or something. Utter nonsense. Try reviewing the facts and quit your adolescent attacks.

It is WHOLLY correct that the Civil War wa about slavery first and foremost. Certainly it was also about tariffs and states' rights, but slavery was the single most important catalyst of the war. In fact, without slavery, there would have been no war.
If it was not, pray tell WHY did nearly every single article of secession from nearly every single southern state feature slavery as its most important point. The single biggest worry that is featured in these articles by the individual southern states focuses on slavery.
If slavery wasn't a big deal, it is awfully odd that every southern state took such pains to mention it in their announcement of secession!
Lincoln Apologist
November 1, 2008 - 20:57 ET by Sergeant ROCKNo it wasn't. That's what your government school preaches.
No war, huh? So, had those states given up slavery but seceded anyway there wouldn't have been a war? Hardly. Lincoln was not about to give up the South over slavery or any other issue.
What's odd is that the Confedrate States had to ratify amendments to be re-admitted to a Union that they had no right to secede from in the first place. Now, that's a hoot!

My guess is you have been listening too closely to the historically illiterate Thomas Dilorenzo who's is only interested in being an iconoclast and warps his bad reading of history to make a name for himself.
And on secession... you might be amazed to discover that James Madison said there ws NO "right" to secession. He was four square against it during the Nullification Crisis of the 1930s. And, his opinion should be closely considered. After all, he isn't called the Father of the Constitution for nothing!

I don't live in Seattle, but we've had some weirdness going on..
November 1, 2008 - 16:57 ET by PrairieSkyhere, too. I live in North Dakota, and even in this traditionally red state, there have been problems with people's McCainPalin yard signs disappearing from their yards. This is the first time that something like this has happened in the 20 odd years that we have lived here. I am surprised we haven't been hit, because we have 2 big McCain and McCainPalin signs in our yard, which have been up for about 2 months, as well as several McCainPalin bumper stickers on our cars. Last night being Halloween, once it got dark, we did take in our signs just in case some wiseguy decided to be cute, but first thing this morning, they went right back up.
Something else interesting and related...My daughter is a senior at the university in our town, and the Student Government president at the school was apparently using his office on campus as a mini de facto Obama headquarters. Our local Republican office got wind of this, they complained, and the kid in question was told to cease and desist (which he did). What makes me nuts is that the university administration had to know about this, and did nothing until the Repub office complained. Can you imagine if someone was doing the same thing for McCain? It wouldn't have lasted a day.
This garbage going on in Seattle is just another example of what things look to be like if Obamessiah wins on Tuesday. If anyone, from a private citizen to a member of the press dares to cross "The One," look out...They'll find themselves targeted for such "heresy."

November 1, 2008 - 19:14 ET by PrairieSkyOne of the employees at my daughter's university was a prominent member of the local Democratic party, and was using her campus work email to send out mass messagings as part of her position in the party.
When I found out about this, I contacted the university president and gave him the evidence and expressed my concerns that a public, tax-payer supported state university employee was doing such a thing. He investigated, said he told the employee to knock it off, and told me that he had taken care of it, and would be reminding the rest of the university employees, faculty and staff that this was an inappropriate use of university resources.
As far as Ohio is concerned, I think it could end up making Florida in 2000 look like a tea party. I think that there is so much illegal and inappropriate activity going on concerning this election, we'll likely never know the full extent of it.

I graduated from UND in 1985 and remember what the elections were like in the 80's in the area immediately surrounding the University.
THe precinct immediately around UND went heavily Democrat and the average University resident put out signs for the dems in their yards, Reagan signs were few and far between.
THe local news carried all sorts of info on how GF and Fargo were going to go Dem. But they did not, and neither did the state.

November 1, 2008 - 18:56 ET by PrairieSkythe universities in the state, especially UND and NDSU. If you drive on any of the streets near the campuses (where many of the kids live), you tend to see more Obama signs than McCain...Same thing on campus as far as bumper stickers. Polls back that up too, but most of the polling in the state is being done in the Grand Forks and Fargo areas as well, largely by and of college students, so that is why the numbers may be showing a bogus, skewed uptick for Obama. This is probably why he has made a last minute ad buy in the state this weekend.
The vast majority of the state is still solid McCain, and is still expected to vote that way.

We actually got our signs early on by ordering them from McCain's website store...We were afraid that there would be a short supply of them locally, and didn't want to miss out.
That said, just in talking to people here, folks are scared to death of Obama winning...Many are saying that they are mad as hell too, and as a result, are voting a straight Republican ticket this year, which is notable, because many North Dakotans tend to be pretty independent thinking and commonly split their tickets. They tend to vote person versus party, but not this year. We've heard from a fair number of Dems also, who will NOT vote for Obama no matter what, because they just don't trust him, and are very afraid of what he may or may not do in the face of an international/national security crisis.

It has become a sad day in this country when we fear this...heck, I am in the NW...but we fear the same thing to if we go to our nearest big city, which we have to do now and then.
Our votes had better speak volumes...seems the only way we can speak, and then we still keep trying to be stifled adn suppressed by the msm leading the way saying the race is over The One has won...let alone the filthy fraud the dems get away with every single time.

It is Pathetic
November 1, 2008 - 21:29 ET by HoosierEmI'm not liking the picture of how things would be with an Obama presidency. And when things go really downhill, he will blame Bush and tell us he's having a hard time cleaning up after Bush and the Republicans.
Democrats never met a tax dollar they didn't like.

November 1, 2008 - 19:29 ET by TN MomI, too, have been worried. If obama wins it will get worse! I asked someone in law enforcement if the police are worried about riots if obama lost and was told they are more worried if he wins; the 'entitlement' people-who think they are owed something -will want to take everything.

November 1, 2008 - 19:08 ET by Carbon SasquatchI freaked out a lib coworker with a peace sign lapel pin. She remarked on what a nice pin--I leaned in so she could see it was a bomber and said "Peace Through Superior Firepower." She was not amused, but I was. That's why I wear it, after all. I also enjoy my 'Celebrate Diversity' t-shirt, although it's not workplace-friendly.

This militant hate
November 1, 2008 - 19:31 ET by afuelinspired thinking is a perfect setup for Obama. With this much hate, disunity, so many aggrieved and a socialist leader with a docile congress we could see ugly things happen to our country in a hurry. Biden's comments to supporters, about Obama being tested within first 6 months with Biden asking for their indulgence if the response doesn't appear viable is very disturbing.
A reasonable person could start thinking of some uncomfortable scenarios emanating from an Obama admin.
