Obama Pushed on Our Kids in 8th Grade Textbook

  • Bookmark and Share

Over at RealDebateWisconsin Fred Dooley was contacted by the mother of a Racine Unified School District 8th grade student in Wisconsin public schools about an outrageous thing she found in her son's school textbook. Apparently, in this textbook supposedly teaching about literature, one of the books being pushed as a perfect example of that subject is Barack Obama's memoir Dreams from my Father. That's right, a book by a current political candidate for president is being pushed on our children as "literature." It also seems probable from campaign donation records that a principle member of the publishing company is a large Obama donor.

One would think that focusing on the ideology of a politician currently running for president would be a bit over-the-top even for our extreme left leaning system of education in this country. But there it is anyway. The book even presents a photo of the Senator at a campaign rally with signs advertising his campaign website address to help better indoctrinate the kids.

Of course, the very first question that comes to mind is this: how wide spread would this story have become if it were a Republican featured in a kid's textbook? Would the left-o-sphere stand silent as John McCain appeared in school textbooks? Would the Old Media ignore such a story? Somehow, I doubt it. Who can doubt that the story would be such big news that the school district would have been shamed into taking such propaganda out of their school rooms apologizing for their lack of judgment as they do so. A book like this with McCain included would never even have made it out of the publishing house before stories would have been leaked to the press. Certainly it would be national news. But, in this case, the textbook is manufactured without opposition and is passed out to kids without a peep from the usual suspects.

The mother and her child have asked to remain anonymous for fear of reprisal from the school. So, their names are withheld to protect the innocent family from any possible harm that might come to this boy or his grades in an apparently ideologically extreme school system. However, we have plenty of scans of the book to prove the case isn't just unsubstantiated claims.

On one page, for instance, the kids are urged to discuss what makes them "proud" before they read Dreams from my Father. The message here is that an Obama candidacy is supposed to make everyone "proud" apparently. If you stand against Obama, I guess you stand against pride, huh?

A few photos from Obama's childhood are also included, showing that a simple discussion of the literary worth of Obama's book is not all the textbook is interested in.

The Wisconsin Mother wrote the following:

My 8th grade son is in an advanced English class at a public middle school here in Racine, Wisconsin. I just found out that my son's new (copyright 2008) Wisconsin - McDougal Littell Literature book has 15 pages covering Barack Obama.

I was shocked - No John McCain, no Hillary Clinton, no George Bush - Just Barack Obama. I'm wondering how it is that Obama's story gets put into an 8th grade literature book? It would be one thing, if it was just the tidbit about his boyhood days, but 15 pages, and they talk about his "Life of Service". Honestly, what has Obama really done to be included in this book? Not only that, but on page 847 there is a photo of Obama at the 2004 Democratic Convention with at least 8 Obama signs in the background! Front & center is an www.obama2004.com sign.

Now I understand that many teachers are liberals, but does the school have the right to shove Obama down our kid's throats? All the kids grouped together and read the story. After that, they discussed it... I guess it appears that Obama is planning ahead. If he doesn't get his coveted Presidency, Obama is going to make sure, that the younger generations know all about him, and his "life of service".

If you would like to see the 15 page story on Obama, it appears that you can order this book online. There is a note in the book that says, For more on Barack Obama, visit the Literature Center at www.ClassZone.com The book is: Wisconsin - 8th grade - McDougal Littell Literature - copyright 2008. The Obama story starts on page 830. I hope you will take the time to look at this book. I'm really angry about this - In fact, I would love to rip the pages right out of this book.

By the way, you might find this interesting: I did a little checking on McDougal Littell, and it appears that MCDOUGAL, ALFRED L CHICAGO , IL 60611 - N/A/RETIRED has been making contributions to Barack Obama's campaign!

I found that information on this website.
http://www.newsmeat.com/fec/bystate_detail.php?st=IL&last=MCDOUGAL&first=ALFRED
Now I'm not an expert at these things (just a PTA mom), but It looks to me like Alfred McDougal is connected to McDougal Littell the same company that publishes the 8th grade textbook that has 15 pages on Obama. Like I said, I'm not an expert, but I'm sure you have someone who can delve into the dirty little details.

I guess my question is: Is it ethical for an Obama supporter to publish an educational book which has a 15 page Barrack Obama story in it? If the tax payers are paying for these books, why is it okay for McDougal Littell to promote Obama? This really bothers me. I would have no problem with it, if Obama had actually done something important. Why is Obama being put up on a pedestal, before he actually wins the pedestal? All I can say, is we can thank the liberal media, and now the liberal book publishers. Thanks to them, I'm sure there are probably thousands of these books all across the United States.

That's quite an upset mother... and rightfully so. This sort of partisanship on the part of the textbook publisher is amazing, to say the least.

Far from simply discussing the supposed literary value of Obama's book, there's all sort of things about Obama in this textbook.

One page also urges the kids to go on-line and look up more info about Barack Obama.

It's all pretty amazing to see a current candidate for high office pushed in our schools like this, isn't it? Can you imagine the schools having John McCain's campaign biography in them? And, what exactly is it that makes this particular tome great literature? Oh, sure, it's an acclaimed book, though one that suspicions of ghostwriting are beginning to emerge. But, is it of high enough caliber to be considered fodder for a literature class?

Of all the great books in history, is this one so exemplar that it should be a subject in an 8th grader's class? Have we by 8th grade already familiarized a student with the full cannon of great American literature that we can lower ourselves to campaign biographies? Did this school balance this lesson with a section on Barry Goldwater's Conscience of a Conservative? Why not? After all, Goldwater's campaign book inspired pride in several generations of conservatives and helped lead to the election of one of our greatest presidents, Ronald Wilson Reagan.

And let's not even mention the fact that these textbooks are wholly empty of the great religious works of literature in the history of the western world. In fact, the entire American religious tradition has been excised from our schools.

Yet we do see Barack Obama pushed on our children in their textbooks. The indoctrination of our children by issuing paeans to the messiah is now complete. Even in 8th grade, the kids are now told for whom to vote.

So, form here we have to wonder... will the national media establishment notice this story at all?

Don't think Ayers has had

Don't think Ayers has had an effect on bambi (aka 57 states)?  This is the vision that Ayers has had all along.  Using the education system, run strictly by the government when at all possible, to indoctrinate our children.

Unless we demand competition in our schools from other than government sources and even handedness when it comes to discussions on the political, environment, etc.,  the indoctrination will continue unabated.

My children attended public high schools, college, and medical school.  Along the way, their teachers and professors have gone out of their way to attempt to indoctrinate them in liberal propaganda.  It is has taken long discussions, in some cases, to get them to realize where their thinking had come from on a given topic.  They absorb knowledge like sponges and they picked up a lot of crap along the way.  It has been cause for some interesting discussions . . .

WTH,

I don't understand how anyone who has read either of Obama's autobiographies (ghost written or not) can support his campaign and still consider themselves supportive of America unless they truly believe the style of Marxism that doomed much of Africa is the type of government that would best serve the US. I don't care what color he slaps on his socialistic agenda with the leadership of Queen Pelosi and the court jester Reid this trio will finish what Bush has pushed and catapult the US over the edge to a socialist society. The only question that will remain is what type of socialist society?

Agnostic,

The bad type. Is there another?

You are pretty much on target.

There will undoubtedly be a section about John Lewis who courageously stood up to thugs on a bridge way back in the '60's, only to cash in his dignity for some false messiah.

Were he a man of dignity he would be violently sick to his stomach at his comparison of McCain and Palin to George Wallace and church burnings of that period.

Simply disgusting.  McCain was much too kind in his "rebuke" to that doddering old man.

Segregation was the media

Segregation was the media hype, the real fight was over states rights. During this period Robert Byrd was still under the sheets. He didn't make the meetings but still had his connections. We're talking about some of the reasons left-wing extremists don't want to teach accurate history. My late wife was a high school teacher and I can tell you the kids down here are undereducated. Some don't want to learn and hinder others from learning. Most textbooks are geared to social engineering rather than learning.

gone from history

I took Modern American History 2 years ago from a Professor who openly called President Bush an idiot in class. But that was not what really bothered me. The class was to cover the time period from the Reconstruction Era to 2004 and 90% of the class was spent on three topics; the New Deal, the roll of Unions in breaking down the evil capitalist of the industrial revolution and the importance of JFK to modern US History. When it came time to talk about Reagan, GHW Bush, Clinton and Bush it was all covered in one statement, "nothing worth covering happened". Also, the 10% left was spent telling a couple of anti-war stories and explaining why all the powerful Industrialist were rotting in hell.
It was a disgrace that I was only to happy to point out in my class evaluation which I'm sure was completely ignored. BTW, the instructor did not allow feedback from the class. He asked a lot of questions but answered them himself before anyone could raise their hand. None of the younger students seemed bothered by his method of teaching or his interpretation of history.

Through the Looking Glass

For some time now I have been concerned about the direction our culture and country seem to have been going. It has now been confirmed. We have stepped through the looking glass. Up is down, black is white, and what was once bad is now good. The press is no longer a watch dog but a cheer leader. I now know exactly how George Orwell felt when he wrote 1984.

It may be too late friends. The tides have turned against us. How can we possibly prevail when we cannot even define reality correctly anymore?

I think this story, more than the rest of them, perfectly illustrates the position we are really in. The indoctrination of our children has been going on ever since the 70's. It is now totall as the those who had been indoctrinated are now instructing and molding the current crop.

My daugher, who is in the 9th grade, comes home everyday with a tale of a teacher pushing the Obama agenda. It makes me crazy. My daughter is smart enough to counter some of the comments. We talk alot about what is going on in our Country.

This is a perfect example

This is a perfect example of "give them an inch and they'll take a mile." Heard it a lot in my youth from my Dad. The modern, denigrated version is "slippery slope."

It's been known for years that the leftists have hijacked our education system. This is really just the logical culmination of their efforts. I guess what makes it so surprising (if at all, that is) is that we thought this was where we were heading.

I, for one, didn't realize we'd already arrived.

Hitler Did It, Why Not Barack?

Hey, they're just using the Nazi playbook.  Don't be surprized when they start designing the nazi youth uniforms!

A child's education is key

A child's education is key to their entry into society and their place in it.  Education is not complete unless there is a frame of reference to give the child a proper lense in which to view the world.  Elevating Obama to messiah hood gives children the focal point of belief in the liberal world view with all its assertions.

What we are witnessing is the end game of socialism in it's last drive to take over the country.  You will know the transition is complete when pictures of the leader are plastered on building walls like the typical banana republic.  Socialism can only stand using the cult of personality to distract the people from seeing the standards of living decline around them.  It was true of every socialist government that ground their people into the dust of poverty while their leaders lived in the lap of luxury.  Look at Hugo Chavez of Venezuela.

Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, starving the poor one gallon of ethanol at a time. Fill your tank with E85 and cull a village.

Obama's "Mein Kampf"

Aren't Nobama's books essentially modern day "Mein Kampf?" All about his struggles, etc? Remember, Hitler wrote his book in 1926, well ahead of his rule in Germany, and they detailed his life and espoused national socialism. While not having read Obama's books, but from what I've heard from readers who have, and the hullaballoo surrounding his candidacy, the similarities are startling. It is no wonder that these publishers are glomming on to this garbage as their new curriculum. I am thankful to God that we homeschool our 4 kids. Even in dealing with public school kids at church it is amazing just how brainwashed they can be.

Let me say as a warning to all, if anyone is relying on public schools to teach their kids anything other than Marxist garbage, they better wake up. Furthermore, if you're relying on taking your kids to church so they learn about Christ, but not doing any teaching in your home, you need to get with it. We are responsible for our own kids. Not the schools system and not the church.

Obama: Child of Hope

That was the name a book that was featured front and center of the local bookstore as I strolled in with my three year old daughter. I immediately did an about face.  People, four years ago, I was livid with the way the press, literature, Hollywood, pop culture, the MSM in general gloried over John "Frankenstein"  Kerry.  This year, I am just plain scared of the way not only have the media elevated Obama to the status of Jesus, but how they have been his thugs in smearing all opposition.  This is Stalinism folks, this is indocrination, it's here and it's called Obama Hussein.  If this man gets the keys to the White House, be prepared for some serious changes that will mirror a lot of Europe and the old Soviet Union.  None of it will be good, but we will all be told that it is good and that it is working for the good of all people while we all blissfully give away our money, our freedom, our country.  Don't let it happen.

Not Surprising...

...that this first came to light in The People's Republic of Wisconsin.  But it shouldn't shock anyone that the public schools would jam liberal propaganda down our children's throats.  They've been doing that for at least the past 50 years!  And what a joke to have Obama featured in a LITERATURE book!  Anyone who has read Obama's books knows the guy can't write!  Gosh, kind of like making us read "Profiles in Courage" back in the 60's. People, wake up to what your children are learning!!!!

Barna research shows a person's worldview solidifies around the age of 14.  A person's beliefs about who God is, morality, ethics, etc. are far less likely to change after 14 than before.  That's why so many lefties want to start education at 4 years old, why they push for sex education for kindergarteners, and why there's children's books like "My Two Mommies"--or whatever it's titled.  NAMBLA, terrorists, and liberals all share the same tactic:  get 'em while they're young!
