Over at the L.A. Times' The Dish Rag blog, Elizabeth Snead wonders how Newsweek got Governor Sarah Palin to pose "with a rifle" for the cover of its next issue? Snead then reveals that it was not a new photo but an old one, that the Governor did not pose for the cover at all, and wonders if it is right for the magazine to use the photo as they did? I suppose Snead wasn't really too worried about the photo, but she did just prove that she has no idea what a "rifle" is because Palin is holding a shotgun, not a rifle, in the cover photo.
Snead tries to give a ribbing to Governor Palin for holding the "rifle" over her shoulder with the barrel pointing toward the ground and the breech open with the shoulder stock draped over her left shoulder. Showing she has no idea how a firearm works, Snead wonders if Palin could "shoot" her "foot off like that?"
Hey, is that even the right way to hold a rifle? Can't you shoot your foot off like that?
What we have here is another denizen of Hollywood that knows zip about firearms. Palin is not holding a rifle. And even if it were a breechloading rifle, with the breech cracked open, draped over a shoulder, one cannot shoot one's foot off regardless. A breech must be closed before any foot shooting can be in the offing.
Looks to me like the only self-inflicted foot shooting is being done by Elizabeth Snead as she reveals her ignorance of firearms.
As to Newsweek using the photo of a gun toting Palin, I don't see anything wrong with it. It's an old photo form 2002, but so what? They didn't doctor it and it doesn't show Palin in a bad light -- unless you are a gun hater, of course. And, only someone in Hollywood could presume that a cover photo had to be "posed for," after all.
It always makes me wonder what country these people in Hollywood are from, anyway?

Beyond Clueless in LA
October 9, 2008 - 03:33 ET by jdhawkSnead has to be one of the most clueless "reporters" on the planet. After all, even if she didn't know a rifle from a shotgun, there is something called the Internet that she could have availed herself to get up to speed.
Is it any wonder that LAT has subscribers are leaving the paper in record numbers. When their "jounalists" are not spewing liberal propanganda seemingly direct from the DNC, they are making ridiculous statements that show an intellectual lazziness that is hard to imagine from people that are supposed to be experts processing information.

And Snead illustrates once again the gated cultural ghetto the MSM have created for themselves. They are completely disconnected from the ordinary lives of Americans, yet pat themselves on the back for their reportage and sophistication. Just like Barry. That's why they like him.
The major media report only half the news. Why are they surprised they have only half the potential audience?

October 9, 2008 - 05:04 ET by cocodrieThe likes of Ms. Snead and Newsweek are too ignorant to realize why Sarah Palin is so accepted by Americans. There are still many women in this country comfortable with guns and butcher knives. That picture of her brought back memories of my mama wearing my daddy's old shirts around home when doing work. If Snead doesn't want to get shot in the foot she can keep it in her mouth and stay in New York, Washington, Chicago or L.A. and get shot in other parts of her body like the others that live in those cities.
Ironiclly cocodrie,
October 9, 2008 - 05:35 ET by BadassBuckeyethe people in those cities that would likely shoot her are the same people she tries to defend everyday. These are the same people that get the free hand outs. These are the same people who whine about having nothing and being held back.

Usually, you hold a shotgun
October 9, 2008 - 07:22 ET by ThisnThatI love some of the comments under that article, especially these two.
You're dead wrong, Stace. Everybody and his dawg knows that she's holding an atomic howitzer capable of lobbing a 155mm cobalt-enhanced warhead from Alaska to a target in California, wiping out all intelligent life. (Unless of course the target is a newspaper office, in which case the effort would be superfluous.)
Good catch. That is a 50 caliber automatic street-sweeper cop-killer assault weapon. Not only could she have blown her foot off, she could've killed every human within a 1000 yard radius. Which she would've probably enjoyed, since she loves to kill things. She is terrifying, and I have nightmares about her every night.

Every day I find it harder and harder to believe that our fellow citizens are so stupid.

October 9, 2008 - 07:40 ET by USA4freedomOddly this reminds me of a talk I had with my daughter and son many many moons ago.
It started when she was sitting in on a conversation with my son, who was having girlfriend problems. He asked me what he should be looking for in a girlfriend. (He had dated a few really great looking girls that were nut cases). As you might expect I told him, forget looks for the most part, look for someone that shares your views, your interests, like hunting, fishing, football etc. Look for a girl that is hard to anger, but most of all look for a girl with a sense of humor.
My daughter 3 years younger asked the same thing. I told her to look for men that love the outdoors, that like to hunt and fish. A man that is not afraid of work, also with a sense of humor. I told her that a military man would not be a bad choice. (I regretted that advice at the next Army/Navy game I went to with all of the midshipmen and cadets.. I almost had to put a leash on her.
The reason Sara Palin reminds me of this conversation is some one like Sara, is who I would pick for my son, (if I had a choice).. you would have to forget my advice on that good looking part...lol.
To me Sara Palin is the one and only breath of fresh air in this whole election.

Hollywood Libs
October 9, 2008 - 07:51 ET by MiamianYou have to look at who's who in Hollywood today.
1. You have a state with almost 1/3rd of which are illegal aliens or are 1st generation descendants of illegal aliens.
2. A great deal of most actors in Hollywood today are from Canada, UK, or Australia where liberal values and governmental control of daily life are overwhelming.
3. The "fresh" U.S. actors are usually High School dropouts with GED's and no college education, including Leonardo Dicaprio and Paris Hilton.
4. The older actors in Hollywood are first, second, and third generation "victims" of McCarthyism.
So, Hollywood is nothing but a large amount of people who either aren't from America and have no regard for our history and tradition and want the U.S. to be like their countries OR you have people who are so uneducated in actual issues they use their celebrity to promote faulty positions.
The multi-generational nepotism is evident as well, when you look at the fact that almost every television show and movie are usually only set in New York, NY; the state of California; Miami, FL; or Chicago, IL. They only write about what they know and where they're from. There are almost no original ideas are coming in from the people in "flyover" country since they have no familial ties to the Hollywood elite.
What a breth of fresh air!!!
October 9, 2008 - 08:09 ET by AtillaKahunaYou know, it's nice that, once in a while, raving, PDS/BDS Liberals will stop spewing their hate, will stop with their diarrhea-of-the-mouth idiocy that makes me want to throw things at the television and computer monitor, and say something so ignorant (no, this case would be stupid) that it makes me giggle like a school girl and feel all warm and tingly inside.
It also brings back fond memories of going to the trap club with my dad, having my old Winchester 101 single-barrel gun slung over my shoulder (EXACTLY the way Governor Palin is carrying hers in the photo, by the way) while heading from the trap line back to the clubhouse.
Good times. Good times.
To the LAT, all I can say is, you have just proved beyond a reasonable doubt that your fact-checking desk is either manned by an illiterate chimpanzee, or is being used by the representative from the Obama campaign to write your hit pieces on the McCain / Palin campaign.
