Bush told the country that we are in an economic crisis and his Treasury Secretary, Henry Paulson, came up with an idea that would, it is claimed, end up actually making money for the U.S. Treasury in the long run. That's all well and good, but the Democrats already have a plan to siphon off any repayment of the people's money back to the treasury by adding one little line to the agreement that would end up stealing money from any repayments and giving it to left-wing political advocacy groups like ACORN, the National Urban League and the Hispanic group La Raza. Instead of trying to help the economy, the Democrats just want more money for their left-wing political constituents. It's business as usual for the Democrats, of course, but a bigger question is will the media let them get away with it?
On Thursday, the Senate Democrats shopped around a one page "Agreement in Principle" from the U.S. Senate Banking Committee that laid out their proposal for the bailout of the economy. At first it all seems rather straight forward, but hidden inside this document is one little line that proves that Democrats aren't as interested in the economy as they are in trying to extort a payday for their favorite political advocacy groups. Yes, even in a bill as important as the bailout the Democrats are trying to stuff it with pork!
Of course, the claim that this bailout will make money is not cut and dried. But the idea is that the bailout will put the Treasury Department in ownership of what could easily later become lucrative investments. And, at that later date, the Treasury Dept. can then begin to sell these investments off at a profit and, thence, pay back the Treasury for the bailout -- in essence repaying the American people. But, the Democrats already have a plan to spend "profits" that not only do not exist yet, but may never exist. In the "Agreement in Principle" is the following line:
"Directs a certain percentage of future profits to the Affordable Housing Fund and the Capital Magnet Fund to meet America's housing needs."
So, the Senate Democrats want to re-direct profits to the "Affordable Housing Fund" and the "Capital Magnet Fund" instead of keeping these future profits going to pay back the American people for this $700 Billion bailout loan. And what are these special agencies the Senate Dems want to fund? We turn to the Wall Street Journal in a July 2008 piece that reports on what sorts of groups that were to be the recipients of the federal pork from earlier bills the Senate tried to pass.
That tax eventually will channel upwards of $600 million annually in grants for developing and restoring housing, mostly as low-income rentals, available to Acorn and other groups (such as the National Council of La Raza and the National Urban League ). Democrats on Capitol Hill and housing groups say the housing-assistance money is vital to helping Americans hit hardest by what some call the largest drop in home values since the Great Depression. But they acknowledge the perception of political conflict in giving federal funds to an organization that does political work. "We are guarding against it," said Massachusetts Rep. Barney Frank in an interview. He secured the Affordable Housing Trust from his seat as chairman of the House Financial Services Committee...
Many may already know that ACORN ( The Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now) is under investigation in several states for voter fraud. They have been caught turning in hundreds of thousands of fake voter registration cards in an effort to stuff ballot boxes with fake voters and pump up Democrat vote totals. ACORN's founder also tried to cover up an embezzlement scheme his little brother perpetrated when he stole $1 million dollars of the organization's money. This has only lately come to light.
Of course, many are also aware of the race oriented Hispanic La Raza group that has been a major player in trying to allow illegal aliens to enter the U.S., vote in our elections, and take freely of schools and social welfare monies.
Naturally, all these organizations exclusively support the Democratic Party.
Lastly, there is one more aspect of this that proves the Democrats are playing politics with this issue instead of being concerned with the saving the economy. The Senate Democrats and Democratic Speaker of the House Pelosi have been pressuring John McCain to sign onto this deal. If he does and this payoff to left-wing groups like the vote fraud infused ACORN or the racemongering La Raza stays in the bill, McCain will be responsible for giving pork to dangerous hardcore, left-wing organizations. If he doesn't sign onto this because of this pork laden provision, the Democrats can then turn around and say that McCain is a stumbling block in this important bailout bill. The Democrats have, in other words, slipped a poison pill into the plan.
Once again, the Democratic Party proves that it doesn't care about capitalism, doesn't care about the economy, doesn't care about working for the people, but does want to continue slipping huge amounts of cash to their buddies in anti-American groups as well as using important bills to advance mere political partisanship.
So, lets see if the media siezes on this one line in the Senate Democrat's "Agreement" and reports it for what it is: a cynical, partisan attempt to play politics during one of the most important crises in years.

Of course, the Downstream Media will never report that both of those greedy bastards are Obama economic advisers. Nor will they report the sweet mortgage deal arranged for Slick Willy's favorite "intelligence expert", Jamie Gorelick, by Countrywide's "Friends of Angelo" program.
Clearly, when it comes to real news, the dinosaur media are incapable of reporting. They only care about whether Lindsey Lohan is actually queer, or just playing queer to stay in the news. Well, let me help:

September 26, 2008 - 07:34 ET by AgnosticYes this mess was started with a program from the Carter administration and increased under the Clinton Administration but nothing was done about it with a Republican Congress or when the Republicans held both houses and the presidency. What happened during this period - government grew at a record pace. Hurray! The tax cuts worked but they just spent more and more money that they received from the increased revenue. You can blame the democratic ideas of social manipulation but you need to also blame the republicans for their lack of integrity and for proving they can grow the federal government faster through crisis management (Drug Bill, Homeland Security, Financial Crisis) than the democrats can through social engineering.
Typical leftist
September 26, 2008 - 08:01 ET by HockeyKidTypical leftist smokescreen. "You didn't clean up the mess we made, so you can't blame us!" Time to grow up, little ones. Take responsibility for your messes. The fact that other people make messes doesn't excuse you from responsibility for yours.
Hockeykid,
September 26, 2008 - 08:16 ET by AgnosticCute response. I'm not excusing anyone but trying to lay the blame on everyone who either caused the problem or willingly allowed the problem to continue. Why is it important to me not to just point at the Democrats and say see it is their fault? Because it allows us to once again turn our heads the other way and allow little to nothing to happen while government expands again. I'm saying, "No excuses, period". No excuses for the conservatives that expanded government and no excuses for the liberals that created the tools by which the government was expanded.
BTW, I'm less of leftest than many self proclaimed conservatives I've read on these sites but it was a nice try though. I've written the Senators/Reps from my state, Reps and Dems alike, what have most people done except to complain? (No disillusionment, I know my letters will most likely find the circular file with all dissenting opinions) Until people stop pretending politics is like following their favorite sports team and actually holding some people, including the media, responsible then things are only going to get worse. Honestly, with the drilling issue now it pretty much shows the politicians and the media feel they have no reason to listen to the public anymore at all. I had more hope when the people of the nation stopped the immigration bill but that even seems so long ago.
Agnostic,
September 26, 2008 - 08:47 ET by Indiana Joe"Until people stop pretending politics is like following their favorite sports team..."
Excellent point, and one I've made myself. But you must understand, on these boards we've been lonely voices screaming into the hurricane for a long time. I think an accurate assessment of our attitude might be, "the media and the Dems take care of their own, we take care of ours." So you are correct, you're not going to find "balance" here, generally. Reason and rational discussion, yes, but not a lot of sympathy for liberals who feel "picked on." We feel their pain, though. ;^)
Your point that there is plenty of blame to go around is valid. However, in discussing how Democrats are inserting pork for their political friends in a "crisis" bail-out measure, while simultaneously denying any and all responsibility for said crisis, reverting to a "blame game" that reaches back to the '80s, seems a bit disengenous. From what I've seen, a major part of the problem can be laid at the feet of the CRA.
You are aware that both Bush and McCain predicted this, in '03 and '05 respectively, aren't you? But reform was blocked then, with the help of the very Democrats who now are blaming those same two people.
That's the sort of thing that we kind of notice around here. Let Kos defend Barney Frank.

Indian Joe,
September 26, 2008 - 09:05 ET by AgnosticI agree with you and from the stand point of us against them (the media and the democrats) I truly understand the frustration. This is a conservative site and everyone is more than justified to defend and protect their side. Where it goes over the top for me is when our side sits back and lets it happen. To revert back to the sports analogy, you would never rout for a player who routinely did nothing while allowing the other team to score. With the media black out on all things republican, except gotcha moments, I know it is impossible for them to get their message out but they did have 6 years in control. I think if you look back you will find that they took the same 5-6 months a year of recess and a were complacent in doing most of the things that could have prevented this disaster because as you stated quite correctly "both Bush and McCain predicted this, in '03 and '05 respectively". During Carter's administration and during Clinton's administration their were Republicans that stood up and said this is a problem but when they had the power - nothing. Just like with Social Security the Republicans were happy with just making their stance known and not fighting. If your not willing to fight for your spot on the team you should be cut - that is how winning teams are built.
I understand your point
September 26, 2008 - 09:59 ET by Indiana JoePolitics is politics, and there's no getting away from it. But in the FM/FM instance, people like Barney Frank et al were demagoguing the issue, claiming there was no problem as long as Republicans weren't "destroying confidence" by talking about it. These people were not only ignoring the problem, they were actively campaigning against a solution.
No matter how large a majority one party holds, they can't blithely ignore the professed "will of the people." That's not only bad politics, it's bad government. Plus, procedural issues make it not so easy for the majority to ram through whatever they want. Witness the current debate; why doesn't the party that controls Congresss just pass what they want? Why the "negotiations?"
I'm not here to defend all things Republican, far from it. But in this case, I firmly believe there is more fault and blame to be layed on the Democrats as this situation has evolved over the years. And they're not willing to accept any of it.

October 3, 2008 - 07:04 ET by AgnosticAfter calming down and rereading the thread I wanted to post and say that I do agree that 98% of the blame needs to be laid at the feet of the Democrats and their social engineering and corruption. I just get so tired of the same thing happening over and over again because there are two many rinos in the Republican party and too many big government politicians in general. There were six years Pres Bush could have accomplished a lot with the size of government but the pres, the rhinos and the democrats let it grow out of control.

What have you done but show a left leaning, argumentative refusal to hold the Dimwitcrats responsible for not only starting this entitlement/hand out program, but then blocking efforts to reform when legislation was presented in 2005, that likely could have circumvented this entire situation?
Any intelligent thoughts on this one? Didn't think so.
Maybe you are missing a
September 26, 2008 - 09:40 ET by dscottMaybe you are missing a very salient point when it comes to solving problems so they don't happen again. The pointing of fingers and identifying blame is absolutely necessary in coming to a proper resolution. Simply fixing the problem without assigning blame is ENABLING. If we are not going to assign blame to the responsible parties, that means they are unaccountable and therefore have the greenlight to do it all over again.
The fact that Barney Frank and Christopher Dodd are part and parcel of the current proposed bailout points to the eventual long term failure of their proposed solution. These two repeatedly opposed any reforms when it could have made a difference and to this very day are still pushing in the bailout package the very core of what caused the failure - Affordable Housing. Both Frank and Dodd must resign their offices immediately otherwise there will be no credible reason why the proposed bailout will not simply enable this fiasco to happen all over again.
Folks, Affordable Housing is ruse for the failed Socialist Equality of Outcome Argument. There is nothing inherently wrong with apartment living. Liberals who push home ownership for these people have the cart before the horse. Moving into a house you own DOESN'T give you an economic advantage over an apartment dweller or make you responsible. Only responsible people taking ownership of their decisions gives them an economic advantage, to such people owning a home is the OUTCOME of such a decision making process. As long as Democrats meddle with their social engineering in the economy, this problem will return and with a vengence.
Let me state this as simple as I can with an example: Does taking a drunk out of a bar and setting that person in a church make them sober? NO. Walking into a church/temple does not make one a believer anymore than walking into a garage makes you a car. Change must occur from within a person, simply changing their environment does not alter a person's behavior. This is the false message of CHANGE offered by Obama and the Democrats. Remember Obama OPPOSED the reforms in 2005. Obama is part and parcel of the problem.

September 26, 2008 - 08:15 ET by dscottSo bascially what the Dems are trying to do is both enrich their financial supporters so they can get more kickbacks, I mean political contributions AND write down the mortgage amounts for their pet constituency so that the mortgage payment will be less than rent. All of this at the expense of both the home owners who could afford their mortgages and the banking industry. How many thousands of people in the banking & mortgage industry have lost their jobs because of you Democrats???? How many people are stuck with a house they can't sell in order to move because of the credit lock? Why? Becasue a bunch of bleeding heart liberals decided to meddle in the economy so their pet constituency could move out of an apartment to a house. Yeap, I call that Socialism.

There seems to be a news
September 26, 2008 - 12:46 ET by dscottThere seems to be a news black out on what the House GOP alternative is for Paulson's bailout. From what I can gather, the alternate plan is to “insure” the existing mortgages with the full faith and credit of the US instead of buying the mortgages at a discount. If this is the case, insuring the mortgages at their full original value would also solve the CDO issue since their values were based on the orginal mortgage value. The real issue is the broader market whose entire value is based on those mortgages. Insuring the mortgages would restore their value and ALL the financial instruments based upon them with minimal cost.
What this plan would not do, and I see why Dems are opposed to it since it wouldn't allow them to pork up the bailout or purchase votes, it would not reduce anyone's mortgage payment or principal thus allowing them to skate on their financial responsibility which what got us here in the first place. So what would happen in essence is a bank could foreclose on a defaulted mortgage (not lose money) and then kick out the people who weren't paying their bill so that the house would be put on the market. Those people kicked out would have to go rent an apartment (which is where they came from in the first place). The Banks at that point can fire sale the foreclosed house and the government would make up the loss between the outstanding mortgage balance and lower sale price if any. New home owners with good credit can then purchase a house at a discount and banks can then give them a mortgage with responsible downpayment terms which will not be defaulted upon.
IMO, the caveat for both plans is mortgage money for new construction must be sevrely limited by a 20% down requirement, that way the housing inventory can be reduced through attrition, thus unwinding the whole mess without sevre dislocations of the market.

Maybe that's why the MSM (NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN, MSNBC etc..) are trying to get elected so they will become contracted by the government, this will help combat their low raitings, and of course, FNC will be shut down by Obama and we'll be stuck with the Mud Slingers.

I feel your pain
September 26, 2008 - 09:14 ET by CapitalismRulesI't good to hear that more out there realize what it going on. Even in this situation- where the media has no clear way to advance the Democrat agenda (this was after all a Bush plan), they still find ways to make lucid, intelligent Republicans out to be obstructionist morons. I do not understand how taking a cautious approach to allocating 700 Billion dollars is obstrutionist. I really do not know how the media can even taken themselves seriously when smart politicians (if that is not an oxymoron) who actually try to figure out a crisis are slimed for not listening to their constituents. It makes no sense. This is where we separate the men from the panty-wearers in Washington, can't wait to see how this shakes out and lemme just say for the record- Obama's wearin' some soft satin.
A "William Shatner Republican"
September 26, 2008 - 09:42 ET by SchnikeysWe need a "William Shatner Republican."
Perhaps somebody knows what I mean by it; there was a YouTube link posted up here a while back that might explain a little better :-)

No way, no how
September 26, 2008 - 08:57 ET by Indiana JoeThis must be stopped. If it means killing the "bail-out," so be it. I'm not 100% convinced about that anyway. I make my mortgage payments. Anyone who does isn't going to lose their home. How much will it effect the economy? I don't know, but at some point, water has to seek it's own level.
There is no way we should be held hostage to this type of extortion by our own government. To tell us that we have to "pay off" our public servants' political cronies to use our money to help our economy is completely unacceptable.
"... smells like... victory." - Robert Duvall
Good analogy, Indy
September 26, 2008 - 09:19 ET by CapitalismRulesI don't give a crap if this bail out happens or not. I didn't take on a second and third mortagage even when tempted to do so by my "we'll write you a loan you can lose on" friends. They are all working other jobs now, government didn't bail them out, doesn't bail me out. Banks just have to learn to be responsible, and so do people, plain an simple. If we go into a depression, hey, that's the free market, folks. I guarantee this money and the deal in its current form will NOT prevent a depression. Only the free market can prevent a true depression. It may delay it until the next president gets into office, but it will not prevent anything except for private banking being responsible in the future.

September 26, 2008 - 09:56 ET by zachlindWhen I heard Lindsey Graham refer to ACORN on Greta last night and the money that was directed to them in the Democrat plan I started bouncing off the walls. I’ve hammered out messages to my Congressman and both Senators this morning along with copies to the necessary committee chairmen. More messages help.
FOX talking about the ACORN pork in the bailout now
September 26, 2008 - 11:08 ET by Dee BunkI'm sure FOX is the only one who will discuss it
Hey Dee...if you're still
September 26, 2008 - 12:35 ET by bigtimerHey Dee...if you're still here I was wondering if you are still playing poker tonight?!
LOL...
I thought o f you first thing when I heard McCain was going to go ahead with the debate...
After Reid's Presser and the anger I felt....it was great to get to chuckle about something when I heard the debate was back on.
One thing about it, now I am looking forward to this debate after all the BS politically in the last two days or so.

do not fund this bail out. let it fall.
perhaps then all who corrupted Fannie/Freddie will have to face the music. spend a few years in Leavenworth, be stripped of all pensions and benefits. Lets stop this madness.
George Bush has been in office for 7 ½ years. The first 6 years the economy was fine.
A little over one year ago:
· CONSUMER CONFIDENCE STOOD AT A 2 ½ YEAR HIGH
· REGULAR GASOLINE SOLD FOR $2.19 A GALLON
· UNEMPLOYMENT RATE WAS 4.5%
· THE DOW JONES HIT A RECORD HIGH/14,000+
· AMERICANS WERE BUYING NEW CARS, TAKING CRUISES, AND VACATIONS OVERSEAS, LIVING LARGE!
BUT AMERICANS WANTED A CHANGE!!
SO, IN 2006 THEY VOTED IN A DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS AND YES-WE GOT CHANGE
IN THE PAST YEAR:
· CONSUMER CONFIDENCE HAS PLUMMETED
· GASOLINE IS NOW $4.00 PER GALLON OR HIGHER
· UNEMPLOYMENT IS UP TO 5.5%
· AMERICANS HAVE SEEN THEIR HOME EQUITY DROP BY $12 TRILLION DOLLARS AND DROPPING
· 1% OF AMERICAN HOMES ARE IN FORECLOSURE
· THE DOW IS NOW PROBING ANOTHER LOW/$2.5 TRILLION DOLLARS HAS EVAPORATED FROM THEIR STOCKS BONDS & MUTUAL FUNDS INVESTMENTS
YES, IN 2006 WE WANTED CHANGE AND WES SURE DID GET IT.
REMEMBER THE PRESIDENT HAS NO CONTROL OVER ANY OF THESE ISSUES, ONLY CONGRESS. AND WHAT HAS CONGRESS DONE IN THE LAST TWO YEARS, A BIG NOTHING OTHER THAN DESTROY THE AMERICA
WE NOW HAVE A CHOICE!!!
A RADICAL LEFT WINGER WHO WANTS TO GIVE UP ALL OF WHAT YOU HAVE LEFT TO LEFT WING CAUSES.
I brougth this up to a liberal friend...
September 26, 2008 - 12:41 ET by BadassBuckeyethe whole deal how everythin was fine until 2006. Then i mentioned isn't it funny how during the campaign it is getting worse...watch magically if O man gets elected....things will right itself..news will be good....and if McCain gets it(which he will) it will be more of the same form the Dems...and throw in riots...and marches...and the rally to fightt against white oppression...
the only real oppression i see is the one the government puts on every single one of us....we see it every paycheck....when you are supposed to get 1500 a week you take home just 1000.
Lucianne
September 26, 2008 - 12:07 ET by TheAssessorJust read a comment from someone on Lucianne that we should demand 100% of the vote.. no "present" votes AND if the Dimwits want it so bad and they have the majority, why don't they just pass it? I heartily #%$!*&* agree.
P.S. Schumer and Clinton, my senators, haven't gotten back to me yet. Maybe they are being senatorial.... not.

Term Limits....
September 26, 2008 - 16:36 ET by LostSoulNow would be a great time for term limits for both congress and the senate. Sad to say it's not surprising that the dems are attempting to sneak in the little 20% redirection to these corrupt and criminal special interest groups like ACORN considering how much voter fraud ACORN has done for the democrats and Obama specificly. All I can suggest is that everyone spreads the word around about it and also spread this video around about how the dems had the biggest responsibility for causing this entire crisis that we are now in and good job to CT and those others already doing so keep up the good work.

Barrak's Plans
September 26, 2008 - 16:57 ET by LostSoulObama is always claiming other peoples bills as his own I wonder why he doesn't claim 1 of the actual bills that he really co-sponsored and why doesn't he actaully mention it.Maybe he's afraid of what the public would think if they actual saw what he proposed and what it shows about what he plans for America if he becomes president.
Obama bill: $845 billion
more for global poverty
Democrat sponsors act OK'd by Senate panel
that would cost 0.7% of gross national product

Nancy, Barney, Hank, Chuck, Chris and Harry, You are fired!
September 28, 2008 - 13:28 ET by ACLUSUXHTML clipboard
Dear Nancy, Barney, Hank, Chuck, Chris and Harry,
At a time when oil prices are at their highest and it was
obvious to any layman that the financial system was about to collapse…..you
folks went on vacation. That decision is mind-boggling and demonstrates a
complete disconnect from reality. I can’t tell you how angry I am in your
performances as “leaders” of this great country. Each of you has continuously
failed the good citizens of the United States of America in a catastrophic way.
Our country has never been this WEAK and it is specifically each of you that got
us here.
You must be too busy focusing on the election, your party,
your personal agenda and being “green” to care about the single mother putting
gas in her car or the business person trying to create jobs and sell products.
I’m sure that the vision each of you had in the beginning of your political
careers was far better than your colossal failures today. This is the 2nd
time in 10 years that banks have destroyed the economy. This will be the 2nd
time in 10 years you have asked us to pay for it. You can’t trust the banks,
congress and senate or the media. This paints a very dim future for my country.
This congress and senate suffers from gross incompetency
and neglect. I think we should have a formal investigation into your behavior
and dealings in this matter. Upon your resignation, I would ask that each of you
examine the damage you have inflicted on this great country, its citizens and
our reputation with rigorous integrity, logic and dispassionate impartiality.
America has had enough, although, I doubt you’ve noticed the polls. 80% of
Americans are sick of your performance.
In short, get a box, get your stuff and get the hell out of
my government.
