AP Headline Asserts VP is 'Unpopular Cheney'

Well, the Associated Press is certainly living up to its new rules of being opinion editorialists instead of reporters if the following headline is any indication: "Obama links energy troubles to unpopular Cheney." This was unleashed on the world by the AP on August 5. So, I ask you, does "unpopular Cheney" sound more like opinion than it does simple news reporting?

Certainly we can face facts that the liberal press has succeeded in pillorying Vice President Cheney since almost the minute he stepped into the VP Mansion at the United States Naval Observatory. It is, therefore, a fact that Cheney has a low approval rating. But it seems to me that the headline branding Cheney "unpopular" is somewhat unseemly and opinionated as opposed to newsworthy.

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

In fact, the Cheney comment was not even the crux of Obama's comments, but a throw away line meant to give red meat to the far left. Obama did not center his energy discussion on Cheney. Yet here we have the AP deciding to make that the focal point of the discussion by making it the headline? Even more ridiculously, the AP twice reported that throw away line in the same 10 paragraph story. This seems to reveal that it is the AP, rather than Obama, that wanted to focus on Cheney the most here.

There is something far more insidious that Obama said in his speech that the AP could have focused on, but didn't because it reveals Obama's anti-business, anti-capitalist, socialism.

Among other things, Obama has proposed a $1,000-per family energy rebate to be paid for by a tax on excessive energy-company profits. He called for ending U.S. reliance on oil from the Middle East and Venezuela over the next 10 years, a project he said would cost the U.S. $150 billion.

Obama just asserted that the Federal government should confiscate money from private businesses and redistribute that money, giving it away like welfare! That is theft. Period. It is also as anti-American as you can get.

Yet the new opinionated AP leaves that alone and goes after Dick Cheney who will be retiring from public service in a matter of months? The AP decides attacking a man who soon won't be relevant to the issues is of far more importance than exploring Obama's anti-capitalist positions?

A far more relevant headline would have been "Obama Says Take Oil Profits Away," or perhaps "Obama Demands Oil Companies Refund Profits," or the like. But, Cheney is practically irrelevant to the future at this point. Still, Cheney is what the AP focused on.

Yes, we can sure see how the "new" AP is situated, eh?

Actually...

...I read this as an advantage to the Republican camps.

The media (AP) is unwittingly throwing B. Hussein O. under the bus. Think about it.

The "crux" of this story, as WTH so astutely noted, was not Cheney at all. It was BHO's own energy "hand out" policy. The AP could have used this as a "silver bullet moment" by endlessly parroting the $1000 per family rebate. Whoops.

It seems the media keeps forgetting that the current administration is not running for re-election and all the media's attempts to tie McCain to the Bush administration's whipping post has so far failed, miserably. This article could have been used for that very purpose. Another whoops.

And finally; The polls have indicated that the "all Obamessiah, all the time" media coverage of his European rock tour was a dismal failure with regards to increasing his popularity at home. And the much anticipated, no, expected bounce in the polls, has proven to be non-existent.

Liberals

The welfare ball started rolling under FDR And rolled faster and faster under JFK and LBJ. Now the nanny state is being pushed hard by the dimocrats and the liberal press. True conservatives are always villified by the press and the socialist dimocrats by any means whatever. WE have a lond way to go and a lot of catch-up to play if we are to win back our country.

Somehow I sense VP Cheney

Somehow I sense VP Cheney could care less.  But your main point is correct.  Liberals cannot compete by debating the merits of ideas, particularly the ones that they keep proposing that have already failed time and again.  So to combat anyone that stands in their way they have to villify their opponents.  They hate Cheney because he doesn't care and continues to outsmart them at every turn.  This comment was just red meat for the fringe left who don't seem to understand that a tax on the oil companies will just be added to the price of gas.  Obama is an idiot, therefore he must not be forced to debate ideas.

Free Thinker

You put your finger on the main reason they hated President Reagan with such a passion. He ignored them and did not compromise his integrity.

You got that right

The failed policies (all these socialist policies fail) of the Dims are either spun, forgotten or buried or blamed on yours truly the conservatives. Leaving behind the wreckage of broken families, spawning poverty and crime. They undeservedly take the moral high ground spouting it's "for the children or planet or peace" or whatever all the while crowing about their committment, compassion and tolerance of which they have none. Liberalism is a mental disorder. A product of laziness, magical thinking and fantasy.

I wonder

Why we never see a poll on Speaker Pelosi?

Cheney and the media

This attack on Cheney is all part of the left-wing's on-going smear campaign against anyone with whom they disagree. Read the communist playbook. Say something long enough and loud enough and ignorant people will begin to believe it is true. Pure propaganda. They have been sucessful with President Richard Nixon, President Bush, and V.P. Cheney. Orwell's 1984 points out the obvious about socialist/communist "liberals". Ignorance is bliss and apathy, rather than constant vigilance, leads to the acceptance by the masess of outright lies. Today NBC,CBS, and ABC, combined with the NYT and most of the print media, are in cohoots against the truth. It's anti-American to say the least. But surprise, they are losing business. That's a good sign.

NEVER,NEVER trust a "liberal"

Media failures...

99% of the media types are  failures so they're only exposure to the public comes from attacking someone successful. Lame Stream Media failures are followed and worshiped by democrat failures. The media dominated Dimmy Carter and Slick Willie and are in deep depression from being told to go suck a banana by GWB and Chaney. Same thing happened under Reagan, the media had no influence and went into slander mode.

They see a ray of sunshine in  Hussein O because he's dumber than a box of rocks and they drive every word that comes out of his mouth, actually the media through over '2,000' advisors, and a teleprompter, provide every word Hussein speaks. But I got me a tire gauge so don't need no more freakin oil or Hussein hot air.

I expect to get real busy any day when the liberals follow Hussein's beliefs and start burning they're energy eating homes and vehicles. They could at least follow their beliefs. If something is harmful to you and the enviroment get rid of it now. I'm a conservative and own nothing that I believe is harmful to me or my family. But then you can call a democrat a liberal or a liar, they mean the same.

Old, Retired and glad of it.

Think about it...

If it were not for the press constantly running negative stories about Cheney over the past seven years, his approval rating would be much higher. Let's face it, who knows what a VP does anyway?

Media Hatred

The media, all of them, left and right, are the source of hatred in America. A small group of millionaires and billionaires have turned citizen against citizen with their "gotcha" mentality in their quest for ratings. They appeal to the worst in human nature. As a result, we distrust each other more than ever. We are, as a nation, less contented with what we have and more cynical than ever before. The attitude toward V.P. Cheney  is a prime example of concocted and consistent media hatred. Ask yourself why they can't simply leave the man alone at this point? He is no threat to them and certainly no threat to the country. Yet he is great fodder for ratings. The media have abdicated their Constituional responsibility. "Freedom of the Press" was never intended to be used this way. Sad.

NEVER,NEVER trust a "liberal"

No Surprise

The media injects personal opinion into so much of its reporting that it is almost becoming redundant to point it out.  Most reasonable people, even liberals, understand that a huge percentage of the "news" that is provided in the broadcast and print media is compiled, summarized and disseminated by liberals, or those who are more sympathetic to liberal causes.  The feelings of those who are involved in the process seeps into much of what they produce.

For what it's worth, I've always felt that Dick Cheney is one of the most clear and direct politicians I've seen in my lifetime.  He answers questions with candor and the double-talk is left out.  There is little mincing of words with this man and it is really refreshing.  I think that is why so much of the left does despise him:  they simply do no like people, especially white men, who are direct and do not pull punches.  The guy is a true conservative (strike 1); gets to the point of the matter quickly (strike 2) and does not tell us just what we want to hear (strike 3).  Contrast this with someone like Obama, who flitters all over the place with his message; speaks in vague generalities and platitudes; and literally conforms (like so many Dems) to whoever his audience happens to be at the time.  Given that libs love a guy like this, is it any surprise they hate someone like Cheney?

I Agree

That is why he is so unpopular with the liberal press and dimocrats.

The AP has long since lost

The AP has long since lost its status as a journalistic organization.

I have been trying to get

I have been trying to get the time to get here all day in between things...

Anyway, on CNN yesterday, The Situation Room I could not believe the crazy in the attic Uncle Bill Schneider's report on VP Cheney regarding him not being invited to speak at the convention and being snubbed...(as if he knows for a fact)although I do know Cheney and McCain despise each other.

He said...and I am paraphrasing here...

"Cheney may be the only non-incarcerated politician in America who is less popular than Pres. Bush."

Can you believe him sinking to the use of Non-Incarcerated..how low that piece of shite sinks is beyond me...I cannot and never have been able to stand that creep, plus he talks to us as if we are all pre-school children...that is his mentality...and his alone....why they keep that bum on there is beyond me...plus they act as if he is oh-so-wise.

By the way...I would vote for Cheney for Prez in a heartbeat...or his wife.
