Google to 'Shut Down' Capitol Switchboard Over Global Warming

Ah, Earf Day. The day when all the Chicken Littles and the occasional boy who cried wolf can get their fifteen minutes of attention. Don't we just love the warm and fuzzies of claiming the mantle of God and "saving" the Earf from global warming? Well, The Washington Times Fishwrap blog reports that Google has joined the fray to save the Earf and they are going to do it by helping Kathleen Rogers of Earth Day Network to shut down the phone switchboard at the Capitol in Washington D.C. with the calls from "concerned citizens" who think that calling Washington on the phone can somehow stop global warming.

A group of environmental activists has enlisted Google to help flood the congressional switchboard with one million phone calls on Earth Day urging lawmakers to enact eco-friendly measures.

I'm tingling with excitement already. If I thought I could alter the solar activities really responsible for global climate change just by making a phone call... well, imagine the power? Maybe I could use my house phone to stop a hurricane or tornado, or better yet, use my cell phone influence the scores of the next few Superbowls. Well, I'd just be in heaven.

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

Naturally, our Earf Day prez thinks global warming is the "biggest threat" we've ever faced. No hyperbole there.

"We're really excited about this because Congress keeps saying they don't hear from the American public on climate change," said Kathleen Rogers, president of Earth Day Network, which bills itself as an eco-activism group connecting some 17,000 organizations in 174 countries. "The [presidential] candidates are not being asked about climate change. Climate change is the biggest threat to humanity that we've ever faced."

But now, riding to the Earf's rescue on the electronic waves of the Internet, comes Google.

Rogers said her group is finalizing talks with Internet giant Google to coordinate online advertisements and other publicity measures in support of the calls. Details of the arrangement are still being worked out and are scheduled to be released on April 14.

Google is well-known for supporting far left causes with its massive Internet fortune. For last week's so-called Earth hour where everyone was supposed to turn off all electric using devices, Google went dark. Of course, this silly symbolism was meaningless in the fact that electric had to be used to SEE that Google had gone dark... but I digress.

Helpfully, our Miss Rogers put down her rose colored glasses long enough to come up with a plan to help any globaloney acolytes who may not be able to think for themselves to further the cause.

Rogers said the group is arming supporters with voluntary talking points, including a call for a moratorium on new coal-burning plants and support for carbon-neutral buildings and protections to ensure the poor and middle classes don't bear the brunt of rising energy costs.

Now, I have a question about all this. Earth Day Network isn't solely an American organization. The network has chapters in 174 countries. How do we know that all these Earf saving phone calls that are meant to influence the American government aren't coming from foreigners? And why, exactly, should our government officials be swayed by foreign phone callers?

In any case, here is more foolishness of the globaloney crowd, but the fact that Internet giant Google is giving them such a boost should be a bit alarming to those of us on the saner side of the climate change issue.

I've been watching the threads about "going dark"

And something struck me. Unless I'm mistaken, nobody -- left or right -- has mentioned a certain kind of pollution hardly-anybody talks about unless they're astronomers. Light pollution.

Don't get me wrong. Light's a good thing -- it's the very root of the word luxury, and I'm certainly pro-luxury. But it's possible to have, and waste, too much of a good thing. Stars are nice.

"Well, I'd like to suggest there is no such thing as a left or right. There's only an up or down – up to a man's age-old dream, the ultimate in individual freedom consistent with law and order, or down to the ant heap of totalitarianism."  - R. Reagan

As an amateur astonomer I fully agree

It would be nice if we didn't waste so much energy lighting up the sky. Keeping more of the light inside or on the ground where we need it would be great. But I do need power to run my telescopes and the computers and cameras that plug into them. It's entirely possible to have less light pollution and still have all the benefits of a modern industrial society.

Thanks.

The really sad thing is a lot of people these days have never experienced a dark sky, and they don't even know it or what they're missing. My ultimate night sky experience was with some good US night vision equipment, which made the amazing even more amazing. I can't wait for the surplus stuff from this war to appear on the market cheap...

The dark...

... was one of the things I missed when I moved to the "big city" in 1978.

I remember as a kid laying in the Summer grass and looking up at a dazzling array of stars in the night sky. Once I moved to the big city, that was all gone. The city lights blotted out all the stars every single night.

Me too, Warner.  We

Me too, Warner.  We completely agree on this one.

Gogglilng the White House

Google should be stopped from enabling this

idiocy.  If everyone jammed the phone lines

to protest each and every "concern" in this

world, the White House would get nothing done

and it probably a threat to security.  I'm sure

this will be brought to the attention of the

Secret Service, FBI, etc. to stop the nonsense.

Who needs science when you have an eco-religion?

Shouldn't the "overwhelming" scientific evidence that AGW is a scam be enough to convince lawmakers NOT to enact energy policies that will destroy the economy? But who needs science when you have an eco-religion?

I think I'm about to drop Google as my default search engine. Any suggestions on another one that doesn't accept propaganda as scientific fact?

I'd like to refer the Google administrators to an article that was just posted. Maybe they can help get it higher on their search results and maybe they can actually see how dumb they really are:

Climate Change Stupidity: An Overview of the Global Warming Hypothesis

LIBERAL Google elites practicing what they preach?

Does this mean the LIBERAL Google elites with carbon footprints the size of a small town will be selling their mansions and private jets?

Instead of calling capital switchboards people should be calling the Google switchboards and asking the progressive elites when they plan to clean up their own town sized carbon footprints!

I’m still waiting for answers from Al Gore why he hasn’t corrected his gross error that disproves his whole premise on global warming.   Al insists temperature follows C02, the ice core samples show the exact opposite – you know just one of those “Inconvenient Truths” :-)

Also waiting for answer of why his personal carbon footprint is the size of a small town and growing while he hands out pamphlets stating people should live in straw houses, use compost toilets, not use electric hair or clothes dryers, and ride bicycles to work.

Short Google?

Is it time?  All I know is when company execs start worrying about their "cause du jour" instead of their operations, strategy, etc., more oft then not, the shareholders are the ones who end up paying the price.

There are 2 types of politicians.  Those who know AGW is a sham and stupid ones.

Lefties are absolute nutters in need of hardcore therapy

These leftist, puddin’ heads, morons, are in desperate want of a life; honestly if this is there Holy Grail… God help us all. It is open-and-shut; neo-Libs are absolute nutters.

The Truckers are going to find out

One day - - soon- -the 18 wheeler community is going to realize why Diesel is 4 $ a Gallon, and it's all about Environmentalists, Global Warming, Carbon Credits, Blue Diesel formulas, and lack of Drilling for Oil.

We have enough Oil in ANWR to have Cheap Gas/Diesel, we have enough Oil Shale in the Western US to supply us enough Oil at present consumption rates for the next 500 Years.

What we do NOT have, Is a non-Oil economy, and a cheap Alternative to Oil.  Nada, nothing, It's not here.

The Next terror attack may be a "Mad as hell" 18 Wheeler driving thru a Congressional hearing on Energy in an Empty Tanker.

Hi JT... ...as you must

Hi JT...

...as you must know by now with all the posts over the years now that I have posted about oil, I couldn't agree more than with your post...not just the truckers either...I'm waiting for the people in this country to wake UP too..it is going to have to end up costing them a real arm adn leg before the wake up and face reality, the cost of not being self-dependent here affects every single thing we do!

Here is a link to today's happening, if I were any of these men I would stand up with anger and point fingers at them, although from what I have read so far they gave back some right to the congress, I will have to catch some late tonight if I get the cahnce on c-span..the arrogance of congress and yes all three candidates running who have all voted against drilling here for years and years....the audicity is beyond maddening.

ANWR

2000 acres total footprint in almost 20,000,000 acres. Ever wonder exactly what the impact would be? I did - here it is:

The green square represents all of ANWR, the brown area represents the area that would be affected.

ANWR..it's just to the right...

...spent the better part of 1979 through 1986 in Prudhoe Bay, right next door to ANWR.

It's all an artic desert. And other than the roads and work pads, it all has to be removed when the production is over!

http://www.mapquest....

...just for fun, click on the link, zoom in on Prudhoe Bay until you can see the oil fields, then zoom back out and switch to map version (upper right corner) to see how BIG ANWR is and how little Prudhoe Bay Oil field is...

Hey v...

So did my husband spend part of his time in Prudoe Bay in some of the years you mentioned, one of his aunts as a cook and his cousin too, who still works there...if people only really knew the truth...we also have a brother-in-law working there now out of Spokane.

Don't forget the TAX and LIBERALS!

Don't forget the Federal and State TAX!

While the evil oil companies EARN about fifteen cents per a gallon for producing the product; the governments TAKE over eighty cents per a gallon for essentially doing nothing!

At this time LIBERALS in Congress are contemplating adding another fifty cents per gallon of fuel at the pumps in the form of a new Federal TAX.    One would think the LIBERALS in Congress would be content raping the people at the pumps at a rate four times greater then the companies actually producing the product - apparently not.

The LIBERALS that want more of your hard earned dollars at the pump are the same people that have prevented a new refinery from being built in thirty years!    They are also the same people that prevent the oil companies from drilling for oil.   People inconvenienced by high fuel prices might want to consider directing their anger to the true reason prices are high at the pump!

Head in the Sand

"Ah, Earf Day. The day when all the Chicken Littles and the occasional boy who cried wolf can get their fifteen minutes of attention."

What's the matter, Mr. Huston? Is your head-in-the-sand stance not getting you enough attention now that most of the world's climate scientists and virtually all sensible, informed people have acknowledged the validity and importance of this issue?

Sorry. The standard ultra-conservative tactic of ignoring, distorting, or ridiculing inconvenient realities is just not going to wash. If your ideology prompts you to do that, you have an ideology that can't withstand scrutiny.

I find myself torn.....

...either you are an ignorant buffoon who has lived under a rock for the past 50 years; or you choose to ignore all scienific data that directly and succinctly contridicts the AGW farce, hoax, scam, con, money-grab,etc. etc. etc.

If the latter is the case, and if you are a true ignorer and not the ignorant buffon (I believe you to be)....go ahead and get out your own damn checkbook out and save the world. But don't push this crap on the rest of us!

Wake up before you are plowed under....

Oh for cryin out loud! One

Oh for cryin out loud! One of our resident "We're all gonna die!!" nuts. I am sorry Agrarian, but there is no proof. None. Nip. Zilch! As a matter of fact, brand new sensors in the ocean, at depth reveal there is very very little difference in temps where the currents run.

The standard liberal lies are falling. One by one.

Well, crap! Now what ya all gonna do?

Idea...I have noticed that there are not as many black birds as there used to be, on the high wires and in the trees. They must be endangered! They need you help.

Save a SeAL, club a liberal!!

bass,Please note his

bass,

Please note his screen name "Agrarian". It suggests he wants us to return to a subsistence economy. We can all be peasants, wallowing in the mud, while we organically farm the plots of dirt to which the government grants us use. Abject misery and poverty, but hey, we'd all be equal with smaller "carbon footprints"...

Google flooding the Capitol phone network???!!!

Isn't this the same thing as a DOS (Denial of Service attack) on computer servers and isn't it classified as a terrorist act? I wonder what the FBI will think of this action by a international company that does whatever China and Iran and other totalitarian regimes tell it?

The day that "politician" became a career choice is the day we started losing the Republic. Let's get it back! Alan Keyes '08.

Thats why I say....

DO IT, Google...DO IT!

Lets see what happens! Hopefully the FBI/CIA hand you your ass...so go ahead, give it a whirl!

Ask yourself: Do I want a good paying job, or do I want a government hand out. Its that simple!

a bit alarmist?

The article does say:" "Our intention is really, really not to shut them down." BTW, so the headline is a bit, oh shall we say alarmist?

And who are you upset with, Earth Day Network or Google?

If it is EDN, why not call your representatives and congratulate them for ignoring the science. If it is Google, then switch to another service and let the free market make its mark.

thanks to google and the light switch flippers

i say shut the f up about global warming, your efforts alone in self flagellation actions have saved the entire planet, now leave the rest of us producers in the world alone to get things done while you rattle your tamborines and sing while sitting indian style in a circle. psst please take a bath once in a while.

i really am getting tired of the glob warms.
