WaPo Columnist Compares Christians to KKK, Says They Love 'Torture'

  • Bookmark and Share

After catching Harold Meyerson's latest Washington Post hatemongering against religion in general, Christians in particular, and Republicans especially, all I could say was just WOW! This thing is nearly unhinged and if you took the word Christian out and replaced it with any of the favored, protected minorities that the MSM guards like mother hens, it would be indistinguishable from the kind of pure bigotry that would result in Meyerson's utter ostracizing should it have been written about those protected classes. Calling Republicans/Christians torturers, abusers of immigrants, members of the KKK, bigots and even mean, Meyerson skipped only the Nazi and Hitler references making one wonder if his hatred for Christians isn't fully sated after all in this piece and if there is more seething bile that he decided it was better not to air?

There is absolutely no substance to Meyerson's piece at all. It is filled with lies, mischaracterizations, blatant spin and name calling. In fact, it is nothing but a 12 paragraph excuse to call Christians names, so I won't waste time trying to refute his garbage as it is so bigoted and full of lies that it defies reply -- that and it would take far more time than I'm willing to give it. But, here is a list of all the names he calls Christians and Republicans and just some of his outrageously off-base "analysis" in this piece of trash.

Story Continues Below Ad ↓
  • As Christians across the world prepare to celebrate the birth of Jesus, it's a fitting moment to contemplate the mountain of moral, and mortal, hypocrisy that is our Christianized Republican Party.
  • Rather, it's the gap between the teachings of the Gospels and the preachings of the Gospel's Own Party that has widened past the point of absurdity, even as the ostensible Christianization of the party proceeds apace.
  • Likewise his (George Bush's) support of torture, which he highlighted again this month when he threatened to veto House-passed legislation that would explicitly ban waterboarding.
  • It's not just Bush whose catechism is a merry mix of torture and piety.
  • But it's on their policies concerning immigrants where Republicans -- candidates and voters alike -- really run afoul of biblical writ. Not on immigration as such but on the treatment of immigrants who are already here.
  • Yet the distinctive cry coming from the Republican base this year isn't simply to control the flow of immigrants across our borders but to punish the undocumented immigrants already here
  • the push to persecute the immigrants already among us comes distinctly, though by no means entirely, from the same Republican right that protests its Christian faith at every turn.
  • We've seen this kind of Christianity before in America... At its height in the 1920s, the Ku Klux Klan
  • But nativist bigotry is strongest in the Old Time Religion precincts of the Republican Party
  • The most depressing thing about the Republican presidential race is that the party's rank and file require their candidates to grow meaner with each passing week.
  • And now, inconveniently, inconsiderately, comes Christmas, a holiday that couldn't be better calibrated to expose the Republicans' rank, fetid hypocrisy.

See what I mean? There is no "debate" here, nothing to say in reply to this hater because there isn't a single sentient point made by Meyerson. His just let lose a stream of hate that is as baseless and lacking of real proof as any a bigot ever devised against his most hated segment of humanity.

In the final analysis, Meyerson complains about the right's "hypocrisy" yet so revels in his own that it makes your head spin. After all, as he complains that the right is so overly concerned about religion in politics, he wants it utterly eliminated from the public sphere, then he complains that the right isn't "tolerant" enough. Yet, he so pummels Christians and religion showing he is just as intolerant in the opposite direction as those he claims to hate so much.

Like I said, reading Meyerson's piece boggles the mind. It really has to be read in its entirety to be believed. This kind of hatred would never be allowed by a newspaper should it have been leveled against Jews, blacks or gays, et al. This is the kind of stuff you'd see from the presses of dictators and tyrants' in their efforts to discredit their enemies. This is a China's or a Chavez' style, not that of a level headed democrat.

All you can say is just WOW!

Does the Washington Post have an ombudsman?

Any news on any repercussions? Is the paper willing to bear the costs of offended readers un-subscribing? This can't be good PR for the WaPo.

Let us know when and if the WaPo issues a statement. Do a follow-up.

WaPo

Maybe the WaPo is gunning for the HuffPo intelligentsia as its Global Audience.

Paper is so passe', don't you think?

I ♣ My Seal

I don't know if paper itself

I don't know if paper itself is passe' or not but THIS one with Meyerson in it sure is!!

Warner

The ink WaPo uses leaves smudges on my butt cheeks.

I ♣ My Seal

Sure thing, Meyerson

And I'm betting Robert Byrd invites you over for Christmas Dinner too.

I ♣ My Seal

...not sure where to start

...not sure where to start with this guy - is he actually lamenting the lack of Christian policy in the GOP platform? let's do it!

of course then he can lambast us for the separation of church and state! great - a nice two-fer-one...score....

these libs are hilarious...

"Hey GOP why aren't you more Christian in your policies, dammit!?"

"Hey GOP we have separation of church and state you know - keep your faith out of politics, dammit!"

And they wonder why no one votes for them lately - somebody get this Meyerson a straight-jacket before he hurts himself...

What can we expect from a socialist?

An interesting background on this Marxist can be found at this link:  http://nalert.blogspot.com/2006/01/washington-post-columnist-advocates.html

When will the pinkos realize that Marxism is a failed exeriment and stop trying to make our county the Soviet States of America?

I think a better name for the WaPo should read:  Komsomolskaya Post.  What do you think?

It's always amazing to me

It's always amazing to me (OK, not really) when the anti-Christians, who have a meltdown at the thought that any Christian would bring his religious principles into a political argument regarding abortion, chastize them for what they perceive to be their lack of Christianity on immigration, health care, or any of their other socialistic programs.

Leaving aside the fact the Jesus never said how governments should do things, Myerson himself talks about the Founders, who made very clear in the Constitution that there would be
no religious test for officeholders in their enlightened new republic.
He then proceeds to excoriate Republicans for NOT living up to a religious test that he devised, in their votes.

I guess in Myerson's view, a "Christian" nation would allow unfettered immigration and unlimited free social services to everyone who wants to come here. I wonder how long he thinks we would even have a country, were that the case.

I'm not good with chapter and verse, but I do know that there are places in the (OT) Bible where God told the Israelites to drive out foreigners, and assisted them in doing so. I'm not saying that we, as a country, should do that. I'm just pointing out that Myerson, like most fallible humans, cherry-picks his teachings from the Bible, to support his view.

Update 07:12

Warner, you gave the WaPo website a boost! If you go to the front page, the Myerson article is at the top of the list of "most viewed" articles.

Warner, you gave the WaPo

Warner, you gave the WaPo website a boost! If you go to the front page, the Myerson article is at the top of the list of "most viewed" articles.

Now THAT is funny!

Its

Motherbelt: It is in the book of Deuteronomy as well as a few other places upon the Israelites early occupation of Canaan.

Oh those clever liberals

They think they're turning Christians' own words back at them, like Perry Mason or Columbo throwing down a "gotcha" moment at the killer. They think they can convict Christians by their own words. It doesn't matter whether they believe the words (and they usually don't). They think they have cleverly caught Christians in a self-contradiction.

The effort is almost always a mistake. For instance, Myerson broadly claims that the Bible isn't big on immigrant documentation, and this implies that Republican Christians shouldn't care about it either. That's embarrassingly shallow. By that same illogic, you'd have to argue that since the Declaration of Independence wasn't big on computers, Americans should avoid them. There is no connection between the founding principle and the issue at hand, so it's absurd to use the principle against the issue. But it's so obvious that it makes Myerson look as absurd as the stretch itself.

Myerson has obviously lost control over his own prejudice. He just decided to throw a stinkbomb into political discussion, and he's begging for attention. It's best not to reward the tantrum with attention.

He sounds like another angry

He sounds like another angry little man who lives alone with his cats, mad at the world because no one else is as "intellegent" as he is and "by gosh, when will these imbeciles and pillow-biters realize I am doing this for their own good because I know things these idiots cant possibly fathom."

What doesn’t kill you, only makes you pissed off. -Children of Bodom

Meyerson is a Mocker, Murmurer, and Complainer

Let's see ... we can start in Jude ...

Jude 1:10-13

(10) But these speak evil of those things which they know not: but what they know naturally, as brute beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves.

(11) Woe unto them! For they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Korah.

(12) These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots;

(13) Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever.

Jude 1:16-19

Jude 1:16-19

(16) These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaketh great swelling words, having [wicked] men's persons in admiration because of [political] advantage.

(17) But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ;

(18) How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time [eschatos chronos - the lowest, or trying, time ... the time when men are called to hold forth the Truth in all boldness and fearlessness], who should walk after their own ungodly lusts.

(19) These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit.

and wheat vs. tares

and wheat vs. tares perhaps? we can go on and on...

I'm gonna be wheat come harvest time if it kills me...

I keep saying this, but I

I keep saying this, but I do most certainly believe these moonbats have so much hate running through their veins, that when the dims lose the House and Senate, along with failing to win the White House, they are going to spontaneously combust!

At 48 years of age, I have never heard the kind of hatred for Christians as we do today. Don't these idiots realize that somewhere between 80 and 90 percent of our population is Christian?

Maybe they are just frustrated that after a lifetime of work, they are still just little dogs nipping at the heals of a great Nation.

Leftoids still believes

Leftoids still believes that jihadist and islamofascist will honor the Geneva convention POW treaties...

Leftoids still believes that as we stop "torturing", the jihadist will stop thinking of killing us, not knowing that they will be emboldened because Americans have no b*lls...

Leftoids still believes that Christians are the killers and not the jihadists...

And ultimately, leftoid sides with jihadists doctrine's call to kill all infidels and will wholeheartedly accept shariya laws imposed to them, while hating Christian Americans who are willing to die for their stupidity.

Wow is right. Like I said

Wow is right. Like I said before, I have pity for people like Meyerson, he is completely lost and doesn't even know it. Perhaps God will send someone in his life to help him out of the pit in which he lives. Merry Christmas, Mr. Meyerson.

This Guy looks like Hillary would after 3 yrs as President

The MSM cannot leave Huckabee's Religion alone, and they continue to use Religion to Replace the Iraq War Bad News that they don't have anymore.

There's a whole lot of citizens in DC that go to Church, and by printing this Drivel and hate, the WaPo must want to cut down on those subscriptions to save Gas on delivery costs.

Lets hope this guy buys a hairpiece, and gets next years "Just Shut UP" award.

what I replied

Someone needs to put this "Hate speech" on TV. Could you imagine the outcry if this stuff were said in the WaPo about any other religion? I posted the following on WaPo:

Mr.Meyerson,
i am writing to contrast your recent article about the GOP and
Christianity. I am not writing to defend Bush or all that the GOP
stands for, but you are inaccurate in several things. 1) Turn the
other cheek has to do with not returning and insult, not withholding
justice. We can argue about what justice looks like but scripture says
that righteousness and justice are paramount in the Christian's life
2) While you decry religion in politics, you also criticize when
politicians listen to you and suspend personal beliefs for the benefit
of others, such as torture. I don't think most of us would do it
ourselves, but in a secular world, leaders need to sometimes live by
secular standards. 3) Preemptive war is all throughout scripture
including Joshua, Sampson and David. These were all commanded by the
Lord which means sometimes it has been ok by God. 4) Your comment on
Joseph's trip to Egypt is just ignorant of history. First, any "papers"
he had, he would have had with him as he had just returned to register
for the census. Second, the modern nation state was not exactly the
same as it is today and borders were much more fluid.
Please address in an article the utter hypocrisy of the DNC which
"supports" justice and freedom as long as it doesn't cost anything.
And the Christians on the left that refute scripture by the sanctioning
of millions of abortions a year. Those who believe in equal rights,
unless you are a Christian, so you can't wear that shirt or organize
that group? How about the advocates of separation of church and state
that preach from pulpits (Edwards, Kerry, Obama, both Clintons) and
then , like you shiver when a conservative actually mentions Jesus who
is the most prominent figure in history?
I'll be looking for the article that slams Clinton for being a baptist
adulterer, or Edwards for citing the bible, then building a 28 thousand
square foot house in one of the richest communities in the country.
As for the borders, I am for justice for those here first as that is my
civic duty. That means protecting our resources and services for those
who are legally citizens. It is unjust to the Black community, who
have fought hard for rights and economic gains, to be undermined by
unfair competition from those who are not even here legally. If someone
breaks into my house, is it unjust to kick them out? No, it is being
just to my family.

I think the leftists ought

I think the leftists ought to get together and decide which way they want us to go.

Last week the Times' Roger Cohen was decrying

“the injection of religion into politics in a very
overt way.”
And supporting that belief with this opinion:

Religiosity now seems at least as important for public office as
leadership qualities,” said Karl Kaiser, a German political scientist.

Now Myerson decries

the gap between the teachings of the Gospels and the preachings of the
Gospel's Own Party

Get it? Gospel's Own Party...GOP???? HAHAHA

In the end, liberals ass seem to want the same thing: apply religious standards to the "social justice" issues, but on moral matters such as adultery and abortion, , THE WALL must never be breached.

I really think it has less

I really think it has less to do with religion and more making the other side look bad.

What doesn’t kill you, only makes you pissed off. -Children of Bodom

Dangerous stuff, a BLOOD LIBEL is.

This column is dangerous. It will reinforce the already wrong sentiments out there on the left that most of the worlds problems are a result, in most part, of Christians. The column also reinforces the stereotypes that Christians are really bad people, less than human, and should be shut out of societal debates. This article, if any more bigoted, (and I confess, I don't know if that's possible.) could be considered a blood libel. In fact, if you mark down this date, I'm almost certain hate crimes against Christians will increase as a result of this article. I mean, if the Washington Post prints it, it must be true. Right? Blood libel?

It's upside down Coffee

As the Book of Acts states regarding the "new" Chrisitan sect;  These people have come here and turned everything upside down.  While in reality Christians turn things "right-side up".

As usual with the left and liberalism, there is a large amount of projection going on.

One tactic or trend I've noticed over the last few years is that Atheists have tried to rewrite history and take Judeo/Christian influence out of everything that makes civilization and give the credit to the non-religious.  They take most horrible situations and put Christians in the middle of it and then say it's their fault.

I speak with allot of atheists and they all think that morality is an obvious thing and that "everyone" wants to "be good"; give to the poor, help others, etc..

While the truth of the matter is that without the Bible and it's followers Hospitals, Benevolence organizations, most of our laws, etc would not be what they are.

Maybe Bush and the

Maybe Bush and the Repulbicans are really followers of atheist Lenin and Trotsky then. Lenin and Trotksy were involved with the Red Terror and like torture, killing and deporting those that didn't fit their politcal views.  They used the Cheka to spread their terror.  For those of you in the agriculture business you should check how Lenin and Trosky treated the kulaks.  So maybe Meyerson should have compared the GOP and Christians to atheist Lenin and Trotsky rather than the KKK, since Trotsky and Lenin must have admired the KKK tactics.

"11-8-18 Send to Penza To Comrades Kuraev, Bosh, Minkin and other Penza communistsComrades! The revolt by the five kulak volost's must be suppressed without mercy. The interest of the entire revolution demands this, because we have now before us our final decisive battle "with the kulaks." We need to set an example.1.You need to hang (hang without fail, so that the public sees) at least 100 notorious kulaks, the rich, and the bloodsuckers.
2.Publish their names.
3.Take away all of their grain.
4.Execute the hostages - in accordance with yesterday's telegram. This needs to be accomplished in such a way, that people for hundreds of miles around will see, tremble, know and scream out: let's choke andstrangle those blood-sucking kulaks.Telegraph us acknowledging receipt and execution of this.Yours, Lenin

>P.S. Use your toughest people for this."

I would really like to give these guys something to cry about.

Respect for WaPo=.00000000000000000000000000000001

WTH

I'd love to see some writer sit down and write a long-overdue hit-piece on the failings or downsides of, say, some extreme party/movement in Islam. What sort of reaction would THAT receive?....

  • As Muslims across the world prepare to celebrate the birth of Allah, it's a fitting moment to contemplate the mountain of moral, and mortal, hypocrisy that is our Muslim Extremist Movement.
  • Rather, it's the gap between the teachings of the Gospels and the preachings of the Gospel's Own Party that has widened past the point of absurdity, even as the ostensible Islamatization of the party proceeds apace.
  • Likewise his (*Mullah's name here*) support of torture, killing, beheading, etc., which he highlighted again this month when he threatened to veto legislation that would explicitly ban beheadings, stonings, etc..
  • It's not just the Mullah's whose catechism is a merry mix of torture, death and piety.
  • But it's on their policies concerning non-Muslims where radical Muslims really run afoul of koran-ian writ.
  • We've seen this kind of Islam before... At its height in the 700's.
  • But nativist bigotry is strongest in the Old Time Religion precincts of the Islamic Party.
  • The most depressing thing is that the party's rank and file require their candidates to grow more barbaric with each passing week.
  • And now, inconveniently, inconsiderately, comes Ramadan, a holiday that couldn't be better calibrated to expose the Radical Islamist's rank, fetid hypocrisy.

That writer would have to quickly go into hiding.

We bid a fond farewell to Professor Talking Points & Cheetos

What a doofus

Typical liberal.

He makes a comparison out of total ignorance as he is not a Christian and I assume he is not in the KKK. How could he know about either?

[Libtards...?]

If conservatives are RIGHT, then liberals must be WRONG.
Thompson/Rice

I think...

I think someone moved Meyerson's cheese. Now he's really, really mad.

Bigot

No wonder a Christian Anti-Defamation Commission was recently formed.

If my mind worked like a libs, I'd hold idiots like this responsible for the recent killings in Colorado.

When you put the clowns in charge, don't be surprised when a circus breaks out.

the CADC!? cool...

the CADC!?

cool...

I think Meyerson is in need

I think Meyerson is in need of some prayers...by his own self.

I am touched by a bit of

I am touched by a bit of irony in Meyerson's piece.  I don't think there has been a screed like this against a particular religion since the thirties.

With stirring up of their most ardent followers (Liberals),   What are we to expect next? A new version of Kristallnacht?

It appears the WAPO has changed it's name to National-sozialistische Briefe.  And Meyerson has become the Volksaufklarung und Propaganda.  Ironic no?

And they accuse Conservatives of being Nazis.

achtung baby liberals are

achtung baby

liberals are always doing this to themselves

this is why i enjoy not-being-liberal so much:)

What's the difference

What's the difference between this and what Mel Gibson said about Jews starting all wars?  One was done by and angry, drunken man.  The other was published in a national newspaper.  Where is the outcry?

Well, at least Gibson was

Well, at least Gibson was impaired by alcohol. Meyerson is only impaired by his puny intellect.

Not all torture is the same.

Some torture is done to exact revenge.

Some torture is done to satsify the torturer's sadistic impulses.

Some torture is done to coerce someone to lie before a camera.

Some torture is done to coerce someone to betray innocent people.

Some torture is done to intimidate OTHER people into doing the bidding of the torturer.

**Some torture is (temporarily) done in order to save hundreds of innocent humans from (permanent) annihilation.

It's wrong for the anti-torturers to pretend that all torture is the same.

It is NOT.
