We have seen over and over again how the MSM (and the AP in particular) can't seem to force themselves to mention the party affiliation of some elected official accused and/or convicted of a crime if that official happens to be a Democrat. Now the MSM has expanded that from elected officials even to party workers. The AP reports a story on two Democrat election officials convicted of recount rigging and neglect of official duties for their actions during the 2004 elections but, for some hard to determine reason, few if any news sources are mentioning that these two are Democrats. Jacqueline Maiden and Kathleen Dreamer have pleaded guilty to the charges after an aborted conviction from last January, the original trial having been granted a retrial on grounds not connected with the pair's actions.
Their crime is a bit hard to explain, but what it comes down to is that they committed fraud with the 2004 ballot recount procedures that amounted to their attempt to get out of following the proper procedure to conduct the recount.
Most of the news reports take great pains to say that the convicted operatives' actions "weren't for political purposes," but even if that were true does that make legitimate not mentioning that they are Democrat Party election officials in Cuyahoga County, one of Ohio's most Democratic counties?
Again, we have to ask, what would these news sources do if these two guilty officials were Republican election workers? Who can doubt that the party affiliation would have led the reportage of this crime?
So, no party affiliation for Maiden and Dreamer from either UPI, the AP, or the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
The closest we get is an oblique reference to the claim that the pair's actions didn't help John Kerry in 2004.
Special prosecutor Kevin Baxter did not claim the actions affected the outcome of the election. Democratic Sen. John Kerry Kerry gained 17 votes and President Bush lost six in the county recount.
The fact that Kerry gained 17 votes in the recount would not have been mentioned had these two not been Democrat Poll workers, the suspicion being that they fraudulently created Kerry's gain out of thin air. But surmising this point takes some thought and is not obvious on its surface. So, even the recitation of this point does not explain in a straightforward manner that these two women were Democrats.
No, what we have here is another game of hide-the-Democrat from the readers. Another in a long list of stories that will seemingly never end.
**Update- 12/21/07**
I find that I was misinformed about Kathleen Dreamer's party affiliation. She is a Republican as can be found in this AP story. This is the first story I have seen that mentions the party affiliation specifically of Dreamer. An earlier story I saw misidentified both as Democrats.

Culture of Corruption
November 6, 2007 - 05:53 ET by allanfThe theme, "Culture of Corruption" seemed to work for the Democrats, particularly after Brian Ross released the Mark Foley story in September 2006.
Media bias is an important element in these stories. But the Republicans failure to counter punch was the most devasting blow of all.

November 6, 2007 - 05:56 ET by USA4freedomEvery week, the RNC should take out an add showing the (crime of the week by Democrats) It would do two things, 1. it would show what we all know is the truth that Democrats are crooks.
2. Show how the MSM does NOT put a (D) next to their names.
If the MSM does not cover it, then some how you have to pay to shine the light on the truth!

November 6, 2007 - 06:48 ET by sarcasmoA "Journalism 101" category for these label-bias cases. Nothing else is insulting-enough. This kind of bias is ESPECIALLY hard on those who -- unlike sarcasmo these days -- retain the fantasy of bucking the "2 party" duopoly. If you're Green or Libertarian or Whatever-else & you're accused of something in the media, it's GUARAN-DAMN-TEED you'll see that party label in the story, every time.

November 6, 2007 - 08:53 ET by midnight cowboyKind of interesting. The liberal networks refused to call Ohio for Bush in 2004. CNN went as far as to color the state green instead of red or blue because they claimed it was too close although the returns were showing Bush capturing the state, while other states were called for Kerry on thinner margins. Kerry refused to concede Ohio after all the the libnets eventaully called it for Bush. Even weeks after the election Kerry was still questioning Ohio and should be recounted. Funny though Kerry picked up Wisconsin with a thinner margin than Bush did Ohio. Maybe Wisconsin should have been recounted if Kerry was to be consistant.
It seems like Kerry and the left wing media knew that this kind of monkey business of vote tinkering was going on in their favor. I'm sure it is more widespread than just 17 votes for Kerry.
There are really only two
November 6, 2007 - 09:47 ET by AJSHOPEThere are really only two areas of Ohio that are heavily democratic (liberal) and they are Northeast and Southeastern Ohio. Northeast because you have all of the mobsters still up there and also because since it was the manufactoring capital of Ohio at one time, you have a lot of people in unions and people out of work. Southeastern because there are a lot of people in the hills that are still racist and because there are not a lot of businesses down there, so again a lot of people either farm, or don't have jobs.
And that's why Ohio is usually a swing state because the Northeast is the most populated part of the state and the Southeast is the least populated, so it kind of balances out. The rest of the state is fairly conservative.
They played the same games
November 6, 2007 - 12:37 ET by pbanks7They played the same games in 2000. Close calls blue = Gore; close calls red = too close to call. They called Florida for Gore before the polls closed in the panhandle, which is more Republican than the rest of the state.
Ignorance is bliss. It's easier to repeat a mindless slogan than to do some actual research.
OK Trolls, still want to deny lib MSM bias???
November 6, 2007 - 11:27 ET by mattmAll these self-righteous Libe and Dems claim to be the champions of "democracy" yet whenever there has been actual vote fraud, or some other questionable voting practice, in this country it's been the Dems.
There was the 1960 stolen election where dead voters elected JFK. They tried it again in 2000, but Wm. Daley Jr. couldn't pull it off the way his elders did.
Remember the slashed tires in Wisconsin - where cars that were to be used to get elderly and handicapped people to the polls had their tires slashed by Democrat operatives?
How about the bus-loads of voters being taken from one precinct to another in Missouri...all Dems.
How about the illegally rejected military votes?
How about Dan "The Forger" Rather calling Florida for Gore, four hours before the polls were closed?
And on and on and on.....
The proper place for a Democrat is jail.

Ohio Hardball
November 6, 2007 - 23:00 ET by stratmanFollowing the 2004 elections, and to an extent during, the Democrats loudly and persistently charged voter fraud in Cuyahoga and Lorain counties. Much publicity was given to these spurious charges, none of which were found to be true or of malicious intent (ie machine failure or the omnipresent human error). The final result was that a very conscientious and honest leader of the elections board in Cuyahoga, James Vu (don't know his political affiliation), was fired and replaced with a more palatable Democrat sympathizer.
All the "widespread voter fraud" reported ad nauseum by Ohio political operatives and their friends in media were by far and large nothing more than mirages. Yet the chilling effects of this propaganda remain today and will be reborn at every election in perpetuity.
Now we find out that one of the only proven cases of voter fraud is by a pair of Democrats. This story has been buried in the local media. No surprise there.
Killing them with kindness isn't working. Time to get scrappy with the Donkeys.
They're all crooks anyways
November 7, 2007 - 10:24 ET by The_PunkWhile I will certainly concede the fact that the media is overwhelmingly populated by people with left leaning political views, I think what we're missing here is the fact that political party operatives, representatives, etc. all play the same game regardless of which side of the aisle they're from.
This is not a conservative/liberal or republican/democrat issue, this is about corruption in the United States governmental process, and what's frightening is the rate at which that corruption is filtering down from the top. The fact that election officials at a county level are committing crimes related to voting fraud, regardless of party affiliation, should be more concerning than the fact that they happen to be democrats.
What this truly shows is that our system has become intolerably corrupt, at all levels, and bickering over which party was responsible this time around is a pointless exercise. The bias of the media (be it CNN, MSNBC, CBS or Fox News) is obvious to anyone who is paying attention, what seems to get overlooked is the fact that these people are committing crimes in order to remain in power, Democrat and Republican.
For the record, I am a libertarian and don't plan on voting for any major party candidates in th '08 election (because none of them represent my socio-political views). So no, I am not a democrat trying to make some argument for my party. Both parties have become more like criminal organizations than representative groups.

November 7, 2007 - 10:55 ET by Warner Todd HustonYou have a great failure of logic in your post. In the effort to sound "moderate" and "sensible" on the subject you make the fatal error in imagining that the two parties are EQUALLY as corrupt in voter fraud. They are NOT in ANY way equal. The Dems are worse by many magnitudes. So, your claims that they are "all bad" makes your point foolish when there is a preponderance of the corruption from ONE side and not the other.
It is just as wrong to blindly say "they are all bad" and not bother to truly assess the situation as it is to turn a blind eye to all of it. Both take little thought or moral effort.

If that were true would not the corruption be less one sided, unlike the corruption in, say one city, Philadelphia, (and here) with a (roughly) 5 to 1 democrat majority? If the republicans were commiting voter fraud on a par with the democrats wouldn't voter registration reflect that? Why so many phony democrats and so few phony republicans? This is just one city, there are dozens of others that reflect that same imbalance, not to mention the fraud Gore and his syncophants tried in 2000.
