McCain Doubles Women Volunteers; ABC News' Quotes Favor Obama Five to One

  • Bookmark and Share

It doesn't seem to be unusual for the media to mention a positive story for the McCain campaign, only to be explained away by a surrogate or two. But ABC News outdid themselves today. In a four page online article about the 2008 presidential feud for female voters and a byline of McCain doubling their female volunteers, ABC News managed to squeeze in five different quotes/remarks to rebuke any positive news for the McCain/Palin ticket.

Quote ratio? Five to one, if you include the quote from Obama's campaign ad. Five views/endorsements favoring Obama and one perspective from McCain's campaign/surrogates. You have to love all that balance.

Here's ABC News' interpretation of the story:

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

Big news! McCain has had a surge of female volunteers for his campaign since Palin became the VP nominee. But let's bury that and tell you what all the Obama people think about the female voters and why those McCain volunteer numbers don't matter. Barack is the champion of all women's causes because he's not President Bush. And Obama has always cared about women, unlike his opponent, President Bush, um, Senator McCain. Palin can't even relate to any female voters at all, because she is so out of touch with women's issues.

That about sums the article up. Oh, and where is Joe Biden? He's not even mentioned in the ABC News story. Do you suppose he's not relevant in wooing women voters/volunteers? Perhaps not where the ABC News graphics department is concerned.

Of all the photos ABC News could find to make their graphic displayed here, they couldn't find one of Governor Sarah Palin smiling? Yet they managed to find one of all the other people in the image grinning from ear to ear. Given the context of the story is that more women are volunteering for the "Women for McCain" group since the Palin pick, you would think they would have a different image entirely. Oh, and where is Joe Biden again? Isn't he on the Democrat ticket?

Personally, this photo of Palin with that steely-glance reminds me of Dirty Harry. Go ahead, Congress, make my day!

Bias? You be the judge.

Obama has always cared about women

Women have been a big focus since the beginning of the campaign said Obama spokeswoman Moira Mack

So concerned and focused that they chose Hillary Clinton as their vice presidential pick.

OPPS that's right they didn't

Maybe what we have there is Obama with his new running mate!

As for the scowl on Palin, at least they didn't use  this pic of McCain!

his new running mate!

Interesting thought MB do you think they are that desperate?

LOL

What a great photo MB. sooo funny thanks for sharing.

How to lie, without lying, part 2

Ah, this touches upon one of the most irritating bias generators in the MSM. Selective responses. There are about three subsets to this.

1) Load the responses so that more are in favor of your bias [like this story] Who's counting anyway?

2) Create a demographic. Show the most articulate in favor of your bias. Show the bumpkins for the counter.

3) Appeal to elitism. Show professional, deliberate, calm, rational people for your bias. Show emotional, extreme, angry hoi polloi for the counter.

My favorite example for #3 is the abortion debate. A hypothetical (but realistic) pairing would be:

The pro-choice response given by Dr. Susan Learned, Professor of Legal Studies, Big Name Univ., and writer of the best-selling "Losing the Constitutional Battle".

The pro-life response by Rev. John Preacher, founder of Stop Abortion Now, Baptist Minister, and author of the book "Stop Killing Our Babies."

A gun in your hand beats a cop on the phone.

The picture of Palin was

The picture of Palin was not a casual choice. People had to sit around a table and delibertly select that particular picture.

Thanks for pointing this out. If this doesn't demonstrate the absolute bias of the MSM, then nothing does.

You're so right about the

You're so right about the picture choice. Palin is ALWAYS smiling in virtually every photo - try and find one where she's not (unless she's aiming a gun or speaking). In this one, she's just staring morosely.

Hint Hint abc and all your

Hint Hint abc and all your ilk...never under-estimate the power of a conservative woman.

Sarah's picture speaks for me...speaks volumes for other men and women across this land.

Wow, they changed the picture to include JB!

But they didn't remove good old Hillary ... she is now an angel looking down upon them.  (Sarah*merica is still not allowed even a little grin - apparently only the Boys Club gets to show teeth.  But hey, I kinda like the thoughtful Barracuda look!).  They even considerately whitened Hillary's teeth for her, in the first picture here on Newsbusters.  But click through to the new and improved picture, and see how the Media-Chosen-Ones are looking up ... gazing off in the distance toward Heaven, O-boy's eyes brightly shining, and Joey squinting in the glow of the Messiah's spotlight.

Anyway, this was kind of cute:  "The Obama campaign argued they haven't stepped up their women's outreach efforts in light of Palin's appearance on the GOP ticket"  (read: Hillary won't even half-heartedly campaign for us against Sarah, so we're going to pretend we didn't want her to!).

And:  "At this event, she (Michelle Obama) will share with them (working women) the Obama-Biden plans to strengthen working women and their families, and prosper in a challenging economy," reads a press release sent to reporters Monday by the Obama campaign.  Translation:  Hope you like working!  You're going to need a second job, because Obama's going to tax the heck out of you!

Great catch

They sure did change the graphic! Wow. I'm going to see if I can get someone to update the post for me. I had a technical error earlier with the post and had to get an editor to help me. When that happened I was no longer able to update my original story.

I guess they were somehow reminded that Biden was the VP nominee. Wonder who could have done that?

They took this picture of

They took this picture of Palin from their press conference during Gustav. I remember this because some blogs on the left were snarking about her earings looking trailer trash.

Talk about running out of material.

That's nothing new.

That's nothing new.  Leftists always attack their enemies in a personal way. Kind of like "you're stupid and your mother dresses you funny!"

Clever, aren't they?

Ooops.

I have those same pair of earrings! Damn!

Notice that they mention a shift in WHITE women. So, I guess they weren't racists when they supported a dem, but if they vote for McCain...

ABC Radio News

ABC Radio News is getting in on the act also. A few days ago, they led off with the latest unemployment figures. After pointing out that 605,000 people had lost their jobs this year, the announcer snarkily added:

"...that's roughly equal to the population of Alaska, by the way."

Just for laughs, I did some fact-checking. Not surprisingly, the populations of North Dakota, Vermont, and the District of Columbia are all closer to the 605,000 figure that Alaska's.

Gee, I wonder why he compared it to Alaska?

Thank God we're not as stupid as they think we are...

$630,000 In Nigerian Stock Exchange Money Earmarked To Influence USA Election–Seized

This from BBC News, of course.

Let’s start a daily count of how long it takes for the USA Main Stream Media to pick up on this obvious effort on the part of the Nigerian Stock Exchange to illegally influence an American Presidential election.

Nigerian anti-graft investigators have seized money raised by the head of the Nigerian Stock Exchange to support US presidential candidate Barack Obama.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission said it would give the money back to those who attended a gala dinner in Lagos last month.

The EFCC said it had seized 74m naira ($630,000, £314,000), but said no Nigerian laws had been broken.

US political parties are not allowed to receive contributions from abroad.

Stock exchange chairwoman Ndi Okereke-Onyuike is also the head of Africans for Obama, a Nigeria-based support group.

She was interviewed by the EFCC after media reports that the Obama campaign had disassociated itself from the group.

There is not one Nigerian who doesn’t have a relative or friend in America.

Ndi Okereke-Onyuike Africans for Obama.

Mrs Okereke-Onyiuke said in August there had been a misunderstanding in the press regarding the event.

The money was going to be spent on adverts encouraging Nigerians in the US to vote for Mr Obama, she said.

Tickets to the lavish event in Lagos on 11 August cost more than $21,000 (£11,000) for an eight-person table.

“We never said we were going to donate money for the campaign,” she said.

“We paid for the hall and the entertainers and the surplus, we said would be spent on advertisements aimed at persuading Nigerians to tell their relatives in America to register to vote.

“There is not one Nigerian who doesn’t have a relative or friend in America. Our aim was to encourage those people to tell their family who have the right to vote in America to vote for Obama.”

Full-page adverts in major newspapers publicising the event did not mention what the organisers were planning to do with the money.

Tickets to the gala dinner at the Muson Centre, usually used for conferences and trade shows, were split into two price ranges: “gold” and “platinum”.

Individual tickets for the more expensive platinum range cost $2,754 (£1,300) with an option to buy a “corporate” table sitting eight for more than $21,000.

She said the press was trying to attack her because they were jealous of her success.

A statement form the EFCC said they had ordered Mrs Okereke-Onyuike to “steer clear of such activities in future”.

McCAIN-PALIN 2008 and HILLARY-ANYBODY 2012

Before sending the Nigeria

Before sending the Nigeria big bucks here maybe they can spare a dime or two for George Obama.  Since his brother's keeper is coming up a little short on that count.

"Fighters are fun but bombers make policy"

Obama's pimping "his" women!

"The Obama campaign plans to send Democratic women governors and senators, such as Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius and Missouri Sen. Claire McCaskill, to other battleground states."

It’s rather telling that Obama would send women out to work for him but refuses to pick a woman to work with him as VP.
