Daily Kos Week in Review: The GOP Killing Fields

By Tom Johnson | December 08, 2012 | 00:18

A  A

In Kosland, attitudes toward conservatives range from intense but (relatively) respectful disagreement to the firm belief that those on the right are personally and politically monstrous. For example, one Kossack recently presented today's Republicans as essentially a Khmer Rouge in waiting -- "violently deranged totalitarian[s]" whose return to power would result in "genocide."

As usual, each headline is preceded by the blogger's name or pseudonym.

Troubadour: Only psychopaths need apply

...[A] violently deranged totalitarian movement...will unleash Hell on this country and the world the very next time they control the White House, which is inevitable while the Republican Party remains viable and in control of the US media...

...How long would it take them to completely unravel this country at the seams into roiling, impoverished medieval chaos and tyranny on the order of Putin's Russia?  And if they encounter any real resistance when that happens, how long before their Bubble of Derangement turns into Rwanda-style broadcasts coordinating door-to-door purges of all the minority, liberal, or just moderate neighbors these ignorant maniacs are brought to believe are conspiring against them and "mooching" off their paychecks?...

...Today, it is impossible for someone who is not literally a certifiable psychopath to win a Republican presidential nomination...

...[T]he only solution I can think of to really burst the wingnut bubble is to divide and replace the Republican Party - break it apart, so that the toxic alignment of various hatreds cannot form a synergistic whole to threaten our society any longer...The GOP is not legitimate anymore - they are a bunch of heavily-armed right-wing radicals collaborating with outright criminals in order to crush everyone else, and that's not politics in a free America. That's a genocide waiting to happen...

MinistryOfTruth: Republicans must reform or perish

Dear Conservatives, the voters have spoken. They want to tax the rich. They like Barack Obama better than you. Your "Southern Strategy" and hardcore base of pissed off white guys who are bad at math has collapsed. Nearly a month after the re-election it is totally obvious that you haven't learned a goddamn thing. I understand this is hard for you. There are a few things you need to get right before you can enter the 21st century...

When idiots run for office they do and say idiotic shit.

When idiots run for office and do and say idiotic shit the Republican party loses badly...

The tea party was not a second wind, it was a last gasp. The Republican party will not change their ideas because their ideology is set in stone. Their ideas having been rejected again in the face of an electorate that is moving away from them, the GOP has only one real choice left.

Get some new ideas or die.

Or the electoral beatings will continue until your myopic ideology improves...

MinistryOfTruth: Fox News viewers are mental zombies

...[W]atching Fox News has rendered a portion of America functionally stupid, particularly white people who live outside of urban areas...[T]hese people live in constant fear, carry a lot of guns and don't trust other human beings at all, and their rural society has absolutely collapsed around them. The problem is, Fox News Viewers aren't the heroic rural townsfolk who are fighting to survive, Fox News viewers are the mindless zombies trying to eat your brains.

They wail and groan in a language only other Fox zombies understand...

They lash out at anyone who isn't a Fox zombie as well.

And their leader is Zombie Reagan, a man who would have been labelled a RINO today and torn to shreds by an angry herd of Republican primary voters...

The good news is that Fox zombie-ism only infects Republicans who watch Fox news. America's youth is highly resistant to Fox zombie-ism, and it seems that the worst has passed. Sadly, many of those unfortunate people who are trapped in a world of death panels and zombie Reagan worship are beyond recall...

Hunter: Democrats should negotiate only with themselves

...This entire fiscal cliff business could be avoided by simply ignoring the Republicans outright. Pretend they're not there...[T]he only solutions they're proposing are (1) to cut taxes on rich people yet-a-freaking-gain, and (2) to pay for that by effing up other people's Medicare. That's a worse plan than doing nothing...

If Republicans want to be the party of screwing people out of their promised benefits, or of making people work at their damn minimum wage jobs until they're 90 billion years old, or the party of not feeding children, or the party of not giving a damn about anyone who doesn't have at least three homes and 12 cars, let them. But let them own that, and argue for it themselves, and spell out exactly what it is they want in policy and legislation without all this sniffling about how the Democrats need to propose all of that for them. If they want to screw people, they should at least have the ideological courage to say who they want to screw.
