Daily Kos Week in Review: Back in the URCR

You know those secession petitions that began circulating after President Obama was re-elected? Well, according to one Kossack, they're superfluous, since America's "increasingly deranged" red states already have, in effect, seceded and become "The Roviet Union, or more formally the URCR - Union of Roviet Capitalist Republikkks."

As usual, each headline is preceded by the blogger's name or pseudonym.

Troubadour: It's a confederacy of conservative dunces

Increasingly the Red States in this country no longer resemble anything remotely like Western civilization, and instead start to look like various chaotic or tyrannical states in history from other parts of the world that subscribed to various bellicose nonsense ideologies or bigoted scapegoat fantasies. So I offer the following term for this increasingly deranged, ignorant, dysfunctional, and criminally oppressive society: The Roviet Union, or more formally the URCR - Union of Roviet Capitalist Republikkks...

The last time the federal government of the United States reflected Red State politics, we basically were living in an authoritarian nightmare [under Bush 43]...

...[C]alling it the "Roviet Union" is not really hyperbole - the only reason people who aren't rich, white men can still vote at all in these states is that the federal government compels it. And yet usually it doesn't matter because the media in these states is completely controlled by the Republican Party, creating an entirely alternate universe where the Earth is 6,000 years old, raising rich people's taxes 3% is Socialism but raising poor people's taxes is "responsibility," poor people getting public assistance is "mooching" but rich people getting public assistance is "pro-business," a black man with a funny name MUST be a foreigner and a Muslim, etc. etc. Basically, they have their own Pravda propaganda system, and no one is allowed to challenge it...

detroitmechworks: Right-wingers are nasty boys

...[C]onservative humor primarily is about making the listener feel superior to the group being made fun of...

...Gay jokes always involve anal sex and humiliation. Women jokes always involve the woman being a "Bitch" or a "Whore". The joy of Conservative humor is not in reflection or calling something into relief by pointing it out, but rather in reinforcing the status quo...

A conservative/right winger is making jokes against the powerless and for the powerful, even when the powerless are well paid for being the butt of their jokes...

Kos: Dems should go left to win

...Joe Lieberman-style Democrats like New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo must be persona non grata in the 2016 Democratic presidential sweepstakes. We don't need that "appeal to independents" bullshit. That's not where national elections are won. Appeal to the center? Yup. That's where Democrats already live...

Be a good Democrat, and the moderate center will tag along with the growing percentage of liberal voters (from 22 percent of the electorate in 2008, to 25 percent this year). It's a good place for Democrats to be, as long as they don't piss off those advantages like they did in 2010—wasting their time trying to find "bipartisan consensus" at a time when none was needed.

This is a center-left country. Democrats can act that way and win.

In fact, they must.

mnemosyne42: Grover Norquist, terrorist ignoramus

Some people think Grover Norquist is a genius. Other people think he's an idiot. And there are still others that think he's a small-statured asshole with a pinched weasel face, a voice like air escaping from a zoo balloon, and a beard that pubescent boys would be too sympathetic to mock. Me, I just think he's a terrorist, hell-bent on the destruction of US Amercia and all that we hold dear...

...Norquist has...demonstrated that he has absolutely no idea how government - or any business, for that matter - actually functions...

Hunter: Ken Cuccinelli, crazy a**hole

Move over Joe Walsh, Steve King, Michele Bachmann, Allen West, Bobby Jindal, Todd Akin, Jan Brewer, Sarah Palin and Zombie Ronald Reagan. The far-right has a new national hero, and it's Virginia Republican [attorney general] Ken Cuccinelli. That crazy bastard is going places!...

He's got the requisite people saying that once you get to know him, he seems real nice for an anti-everything far-right aggressively mean asshole...

And the right establishment Republicans worrying that maybe putting an anti-Obamacare, anti-immigrant, pro-guns-in-schools anti-abortion climate-denier out as the fresh new face of their party is maybe, you know, stupid...

...Conservative heroes tend to have a short shelf life, frequently losing their national appeal somewhere near the moment when people start actually paying attention to them...
