Daily Kos Week in Review: The Grand Old Party of Rape

In the real world, Republicans don't believe that "sex is only okay when God's forcing a woman to have it against her will," but in Kosland, such a breathtaking and grotesque allegation seems plausible, and one of the site's featured feminist writers made it this past week.

As usual, each headline is preceded by the blogger's name or pseudonym.

Kaili Joy Gray: The GOP, obsessed with icky sex

...RAPE...is the kind of sex Republicans don't really have a problem with because, see, most of the time, it's not really rape anyway, and even when it is rape, that's just God's way of saying, "Hey, lady, I like you. You're special. Here, have some rape and also a rape baby"...

...[Republicans'] problem with [Lena Dunham's pro-Obama] ad is that it features a young white woman—from a wealthy family!—talking about her "first time," and even though she's talking about voting, Republicans know she really means sex, because they see sex in everything, and according to them, sex is only okay when God's forcing a woman to have it against her will...

...That's what this election boils down to: a choice between the party that thinks sex is icky, unless it's against your will and makes a baby, and the party that thinks that...women better get themselves and their lady parts to the polls double quick to vote like their freedom depends on it (because, duh, it does)...

Jack Ryan: Conservatism warps human nature

The Milgram Experiment, conducted in the early 1960’s, measured the willingness of study participants to obey an authority figure who instructed them to perform acts that conflicted with their personal conscience.

Nine out of twelve people, when prompted by an external authority figure, were willing to administer a believed lethal dose of electric shock.  This experiment demonstrates why so many sat by while atrocities were committed in Nazi Germany...

Now let’s take the lessons learned in the Milgram experiment to explain how Conservatives have been able to manipulate the people of America to act and follow in a manner contrary to their own conscience...

Let me paint a picture for you.

We are sitting at the electrical control table.  The board reads AMERICA.  We are about to give electric shocks to the poor, the sick and the elderly as we pull out their safety net and take their medical coverage away.  We are about to force women who become pregnant as a result of rape to continue that pregnancy and take their choice away.  We are about to limit women’s rights over their own bodies.  We are about to deny the humanity of 47% of the people in this country.  We are about to act contrary to our own sense of right and wrong and redistribute money from the poorest in this country to the wealthiest.  Sound like the Milgram Experiment?...

Bill in Portland Maine: You stupid right-wingers are going to lose

...Have you noticed how quiet the "tea party" movement has been lately?  Wanna know why?  It's because they were always just the Republican base who took a shine to tricorn hats.  And now that there's an election on, they've gone back to being garden-variety Republicans again, which is to say garden-variety morons who... appear to be in the process of fucking themselves over yet again...

Romney---the self-described "car guy"---strapped his campaign to the roof of Rush Limbaugh's station wagon and all that's left is to wait for the loud "Crunch!" as it veers into the ditch five days from now...

PeterY: It's not dark yet, but it's getting there

[Are the mainstream media nostalgic] for the days when minority vote didn't affect elections? Widely acknowledged as the last election in which Rethugs stand a chance, is nostalgia for the pre-2008 political landscape what's driving the discourse? Not so much an anti-Obama stance as a wistful sigh at white privilege slipping away?

Morton Montgomery: Ryan's true love isn't his wife

...Rue the day Paul Ryan gave his heart to the pagan, sexpot, and anarchist, Ayn Rand, (aka Alisa Zinov'yevna Rosenbaum) the temptress of the sons of Baal.  We shall all taste the sweet, thirst slacking waters of democracy turned bitter and acridly poisonous by the powdered shards of the Golden Calf made into a corrective diuretic by the God of the Ages...
