Daily Kos Week in Review: Alien Lanes

By Tom Johnson | June 26, 2011 | 15:17

A  A

Imagine a being from a faraway planet who arrives on Earth one week ago knowing nothing about our politics but wanting to learn. As he searches the Web for enlightenment, his first stop is a site called Daily Kos. What he reads there about the strange and perverse creatures called "conservatives" is so horrifying that he quickly returns to his own world...or he stays, pledging loyalty to the great terrestrial sage known as "Alan Grayson."

As usual, each headline is preceded by the blogger's name or pseudonym.

Unitary Moonbat: Conservatives are totalitarian fascist...

...[J]ust because Congress hasn't passed the "Let's All Be Nazis Act of 2011" doesn't mean we aren't sinking into a state of totalitarian fascism at a rapid and accelerating pace...

...[A] combination of ruthless economic austerity, political repression, and devout, conservative Christianity can be paths to genuine totalitarian power...

...The right wing is every bit as factionalized as the left wing, but whereas the left will deal with a political issue by forming a focus group to have a dialogue and attempt to reach a consensus, the right simply holds a pissing contest to see who is the bigger alpha dog...

MinistryOfTruth: ...sociopaths who pray to 'Teabagger Jesus'

...[T]he entire "Fiscally Conservative" world view boils down to a free lunch. Wars don't have to be paid for, tax cuts don't have to be paid for, we can cut and cut and cut and anything that costs money is BAD, unless it is a war or a corporate giveaway like subsidies to Oil companies...

...Human suffering means nothing to these sociopaths, unless that human happens to be very wealthy or between the ages of conception and birth...

Heartlessness, cruelty, and an F in math. These are the gifts the GOP wisemen carry to Teabagger Jesus.

And Teabagger Jesus is a monster...

Vyan: They're also blind to facts...

...We have to realize [conservatives] are Wrong for a Reason.  They aren't dumb. They aren't even consciously lying.  They're like a pack of Conspiracy Theorists trapped in Pathological Partisan Cult of Confirmation Bias...

...It's not that [liberals] don't have biases, it's just that we constantly test them, challenge them and improve upon them while [conservatives] fight hard to Confirm what they already want to believe.

It's like being color-blind to facts...

Brian Ross: ...not to mention racist

...The level of acrimony and bile injected into every political thought, particularly in regard to Mr. Obama, is cynical pandering to [Republicans'] core white audience who seem to think that he is the 3/5ths president...

We cannot expect Republicans to wean themselves from racism, or improve their civility and rationality of attack on President Obama, when core color fear shared by millions provides them political kick. This is why Rush is still on the air, Ann Coulter is #7 on the New York Times Bestseller List, and Republican candidates other than Herman Cain have lots of racist jokers to deal out of their political card decks...

Kaili Joy Gray: They want to set women back 300 years...

...Since Republican women are fairly new to this whole feminist thing, only recently having traded in "feminazi" for "mama grizzly" and Phyllis Schlafly for Susan B. Anthony, it's understandable that they'd be confused about how this pro-woman thing works...

The Democratic Party doesn't exactly have a flawless pro-woman record...But, unlike the Republican Party, sending women back to the 18th century isn't part of its official agenda...

xxdr zombiexx: ...and want Americans of both sexes to be 'shallow' and 'uneducated'

...I am not a very good American...

This is how we are supposed to be. Shallow, uneducated, materialistic...

I have failed to fit in so far as I can discern from the media messages and rightwing blather that I cannot evade once I leave my unAmerican little home. When I venture out into the World I am bathed in this capitalist propaganda of BUY - CONSUME - CONFORM...

I'm 50, nearly 51 years old and so far as I can tell, I am in good health. Old and healthy aren't really desirable in a for-profit country like America. Hurry up and die fast is the Amerrican thing to do...

I know I shouldn't be

Submitted by ThatDude on Sun, 06/26/2011 - 5:49pm.

I know I shouldn't be surprised, but my eyebrows went up several times while reading this. I'll even admit to a wtf being uttered aloud. Why must liberals hate conservatives with such passion? The way I see it, they think through their emotions and evaluate everything on a social basis while our minds are more logical and intent upon individual progress. Do I hate liberals? No, I don't, but I sure do hate the intrusions into my life that they propose and support (same goes for some things put forward by the so-called right).
While I may be wrong, I view liberals as being creatures with an inherent herd mentality. It explains why the Democrat party is made up of mostly groups that they pander to. If the Republican party were truly conservative, then I'd think there would mainly be 3 groups incorporated into it, the social conservatives, fiscal conservatives, and libertarians.

Do I hate liberals? No...

Submitted by Dave81 on Sun, 06/26/2011 - 6:26pm.

Well said. That's something that people get wrong about (true) Christians all the time. Christians don't hate people, they hate sin. We don't hate homosexuals, we hate homosexuality. We don't hate women who get abortions, we hate the taking of innocent life.

Many of the attacks made against conservatives (only interested in helping the rich/big business/oil companies/etc...) must be directed at the politicians, because I can't begin to figure out why the people making those attacks would think that the majority of conservatives who have NOTHING to gain from that position would take it.

It's completely understandable, on the other hand, why most liberals (the individuals, not the politicians) take the position that they are many times accused of taking (big government doing everything, wealth redistribution, no consequences for your actions...), because it sounds great on the surface! But in reality, non of it works.

The Wingnuts On The Daily Kos Are Fundamentally Ignorant.

Submitted by Avitar on Sun, 06/26/2011 - 9:44pm.

Since we can not kill them we need to work around them we do need insight as to where they skip off of the rails. For example this from Vyan:

"...It's not that [liberals] don't have biases, it's just that we constantly test them, challenge them and improve upon them while [conservatives] fight hard to Confirm what they already want to believe."

That they think improving their biases is an acceptable stratagy for a sane man tells us about their standards of logic. That Vyan at least is aware that we are struggling confirm facts is something that Vyan is aware despite the mistaken belief that we are grounded in a desired fantasy as they are.

I have a head start since my mother's father was a Union man and a yellow dog Democrat. I often sat around the campfire while grandpa and his friends talked about the affairs of the day as they wanted to see them. As High Schooler I began to check the facts and found that they were completely wrong but the process starts with what, to them, the facts ought to be true. Classsical mythology is the bast guide of what the Liberal expect. They do not expect the gods to ignore them.

Liberal Slant

Submitted by GerryC on Sun, 06/26/2011 - 9:47pm.

Sorry for the broad nature of this post, but I am fed up!

Liberals tell us that God should never be allowed in gov't actions or policies, or allowed on gov't property. Yet they tell us we are not good children of God when we do not support their agenda.

They believe that:

~Stealing from other citizens to pay for whatever they think is "right" is just. Just think of running into a thug with a knife in the middle of the night saying "I need money for my mistress's abortion, Give it up, you pathetic person who actually works". Think of a bunch of bullies on the corner telling you that "you work too hard and are too successful, you slimey bugger, give us your money so we can give it to deviant people who will love us even more and vote for us"

~Everything belongs to their cause. Anybody that does not believe in it is "dumb", and stingy with their earnings. i.e. Man-made global warming,

~They are the rulers of morality. They are their own gods, telling us that Pedophiles, criminals, homosexuals, drug-addicts, and every other deviant is just acting on nature and everyone else is just judgemental. Actually, they judge us when judgement is only God's right.

I could go on and on with examples. liberals feel they are entitled to everything we earn because liberalism is their religion.

As a conservative, I believe that we must help people in society that cannot help themselves (with the help of charities). In almost all other cases, we owe it to our fellow man to help them succeed if possible.
