AP's Julie Pace Covers Up Hillary's Desire to Force Changes in 'Cultural Codes, Religious Beliefs'

You can usually set your watch to it.

First, you learn about a "progressive" or liberal darling who makes a controversial, over-the-top statement which would get him or her in serious trouble with the general public if widely known. About 24 hours later, you visit establishment press coverage of the event, especially at the Associated Press, and find not a hint that anything controversial occurred. Such is the case with Hillary Clinton's comments yesterday at the annual Women in the World summit in Washington. Video, a transcript, and a portion of Julie Pace's AP whitewash follow the jump.

First, the video (HT Hot Air):

Transcript of the objectionable passage in Mrs. Clinton's address (beginning at roughly the 8:25 mark; bolds are mine throughout this post):

Yes, we've cut the material mortality rate in half, but far too many women are still denied critical access to reproductive health care and safe childbirth. All the laws we pass don’t count for much if they’re not enforced. Rights have to exist in practice, not just on paper.

Laws have to be backed up with resources and political will. And deep-seated cultural codes, religious beliefs and structural biases have to be changed. As I - (Applause) as I have said and as I believe, the advancement of the full participation of women and girls in every aspect of their societies is the great unfinished business of the 21st century, and not just for women but for everyone, and not just in far away countries but right here in the United States.

No one can reasonably believe that Mrs. Clinton is not calling for forcing all who have deeply-held beliefs, religious or scientific, that abortion is murder to condone, pay for and even participate in abortions to maintain their personal or professional postions in life.

It's not at all difficult to see this "logic" extended to other areas, as Hot Air's Ed Morrissey noted:

... it’s not just abortion, but also same-sex marriage and forced participation in it, euthanasia dressed up as “right to die” movements, and the rest.

If you won't bend to the will of the political correct and bake a cake for a same-sex marriage, they will financially destroy you. If a hospital won't perform abortions, they will keep it out of health insurance networks (see: California). If you're a critical care nurse and won't participate in euthanasia, they'll fire you.

Now let's see how Julie Pace covered for — not covered, covered for — Mrs. Clinton:

CLINTON GIVES GLIMPSE OF HOW SHE PLANS TO RUN AS A WOMAN

Hillary Rodham Clinton's passionate speech Thursday appealing for expanded rights and opportunities for women in the U.S. and around the world wasn't supposed to be a campaign event. But it might as well have been.

Addressing the annual Women in the World summit, Clinton made a forceful case for protecting women's health care choices and expanding paid family leave. The front runner for the Democratic nomination, Clinton criticized "those who offer themselves as leaders" but oppose equal pay for women or want to defund Planned Parenthood - a veiled reference to some of her Republican rivals.

The speech in New York provided one of the first glimpses of how Clinton will seek to tout her gender as an asset in the 2016 campaign.

... At the Women in the World conference, which brings together female political leaders, activists and celebrities, she said she was optimistic that women were on the brink of making important progress.

"I'm grateful that there is now a new burst of energy around the rights and opportunities of women and girls," she said.

Obviously, Mrs. Clinton went further than Pace was willing to tell her readers and subscribing AP outlets. After all, if the general public knew how far Mrs. Clinton is really willing to go to impose her will on resisters, much of her support, already shaky because of scandalous financial and professional behavior, might evaporate.

We can't have that. To her everlasting shame, Julie Pace played the good soldier, helping an evil outlook advance.
