Politifact Won't Apply 'Truth-O-Meter' in Article About Obama Eating Dog Meat as Boy
Karl at Hot Air and others recording their objections at Twitter caught Politifact being two-faced in deciding who gets the "Truth-O-Meter" text.
As Karl notes: "PolitiFact rated the story about the Romneys transporting the family dog on the roof of their car as 'Mostly True.' And PolitiFact rated the story about former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee frying squirrels in a popcorn poppersimply 'True.'" But in tackling the topic of President Obama's boyhood appetite, even though the item is in the web site's "Truth-O-Meter" directory (URL -- www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/article/2012/apr/20/context-obama-dog-eating-indonesia/), it kept the Truth-O-Meter in the closet, and only lamely reproduced some of the verbiage from Obama's Dreams of My Father, introduced by the following narrative (original was in italics; internal links were in original):
Story Continues Below Ad ↓In context: Obama's comments on eating dog in Indonesia
Supporters of Mitt Romney and Barack Obama have been sparring about dogs. Obama supporters have noted that Romney drove the family car with his dog Seamus attached to the top in a crate. Romney supporters have been saying lately that Obama has acknowledged eating dog when he was a boy in Indonesia. For today's installment of our In Context series, we'll explore what Obama has said.
The account comes from Obama’s autobiography, Dreams from My Father, which includes an account of his interactions with animals shortly after moving to Indonesia. Obama lived there between 1967 and 1971 -- when he was 6 to 10 years old -- during his mother’s marriage to Lolo Soetoro, an Indonesian-born student she had met at the University of Hawaii.
Politifact's Louis Jacobson acts as if it's only "Romney supporters" who are "saying" that "Obama has acknowledged eating dog when he was a boy" -- almost as if no one else could possibly be doing so, and almost as if there's any legitimate doubt that he did. "In context" (the words in Jacobson's headline) -- What about "I was introduced to dog meat (tough), snake meat (tougher), and roasted grasshopper (crunchy)" doesn't he understand?
I'll let Hot Air's Karl have the last word:
... when it comes to stories about Republican presidential candidates eating unusual animals or arguably stressing a dog, PolitiFact has its Truth-O-Meter at the ready. When a Democrat president’s book contains the admission he ate dog, PolitiFact cannot find its Truth-O-Meter. When Obama is the subject, PolitiFact’ s “heart” simply disappears, even when the problem is made apparent to them by public complaint.
That this supposed Ministry of Truth is biased is not exactly news. A prior study by the University of Minnesota Humphrey School of Public Affairs found PolitiFact harbored a large bias against Republicans. But their double-standard is usually not so obvious and easily exposed.
The self-evident politicization in Politifact's Truth-O-Meter items and its selective employment are both shameful, and really a shame, be it really could have been a useful as an objective enterprise. But it's plainly not. The fact that it has a Pulitzer, a set of prizes long since rendered marginal by its own slant toward leftist reportage and subject matter, only serves to reinforce its growing uselessness.

The greatest tool the left

The greatest tool the left has are news and political outlets with the mantle of objectivity and non partisanship. (Just like the greatest trick the devil ever played on the world was convincing them he didn't exist.)

Obama must have been as surprised as the rest of us when he read the autobiography Bill Ayers wrote for him and learned he had once eaten dog. Must have been shocking news to him.

So many leftists point out politifact as the gold standard. I tell em its a bunch of cow puck.
Normally, I'd be willing to

Normally, I'd be willing to let this kind of thing slide; after all, foreign nations have plenty of customs or ideas that seem strange to us (when my brother went to Japan on a college trip, they went to a little town whose specialty dish was horsemeat - and our aunt is a first-class equestrian), and it's not like Obama goes out and orders a Poodle Platter for dinner every Friday.
But the fact that the media hammers on stupid little things from Republicans' pasts (like Romney's dog, Huckabee's squirrels, and "Niggerhead") as if they were damning character moments but refuses to even breathe a word of Obama doing the exact same kind of thing is why I want this story spread all over so people can see that their glorious mahogany messiah is human like the rest of us.
Politifact is about "Politi" & not about "fact"

They've been pushing this stupid website for use in the re-elect Obama effort and they blew what's left of their credibility right out of the gate.
"In context", this whole dog back & forth was started by the Obama campaign trying to take a cheap shot at Romney. Note that this isn't even pointed out by the "in context": article. So not only do they hide the truth, they fail to establish the context, for the same lame 'it makes Obama look bad' reason.
The site is now officially non-credible and worthless.
The "In Context" articles at PolitiFact are never accompanied

by the Truth-O-Meter. That's "never" as in "never ever". And that is so whether the "In Context" article is about Romney, or Obama, or Santorum or whomever.
If one actually reads the item about the Romney family dog, it will be clear that it is not anti-Romney in the least. [If critical at all it relates to the obsession of NYT's Gail Collins with the story.]
Btw, your closing comment is incomplete. It should read: "The site is now officially non-credible and worthless as far as conservatives are concerned, except on the hundreds of occasions when PolitiFact is exposing the lies, half-truths and distortions by Democrats/liberals. In those cases it is, of course, an invaluable repository of truth and wisdom."

Since the dog quote actually came from Oblahblah's book, then it must be the gospel according to Oblahblah. We were told by the media that Oblahblah is the smartest man to ever be President., next to Bill Clinton. Well, since that quote has just gone viral NOW, then that means that people do not want to read that book, don't care about that book, and the Pee Stream Media have been exposed as frauds for not even bringing that up when he was running for president in 2008. Don't trash conservatives over Politifact's credibility; they are not credible because of their involvement in protecting DemocRATS for political gain.

You don't need to be a conservative to see this; just to acknowledge it.
A Fact that Politifact doesn't count as a fact but it's a fact

The fact that this excerpt from Obama's book Dreams of My Father hasn't been exposed to the public until now means either:
A) The American People aren't in love with this dude like the Pee Stream media claims they are;
B) The lengths that Pee Stream Media have gone to protect Obama from stuff like this have been exposed;
C) If this was actually a quote from Sarah Palin's book, the Pee Stream Media would be all up in arms with outrage and we'd get little pukes like Martin Batsh*t on M.S.S.R. (M-BS-NBC) condemning her to hell;
D) All of the above.
Obama's gotta go in November. FACT.

You forgot one other fact:
E) The critics who hailed Obama's book(s) failed to read them.

Yeah, that was a clever comment.;)
O's dogmeat-eating doesn't surprise me. He was so "eclectically" raised, with such a shaky foundation -- yet with a scary batch of philosophy and practices in terms of principles...and his background does have lasting impact (unless he had made a clear and purposeful choice to think and live differently). The media and so many Americans just looked away from all this the last election -- either choosing to remain uninformed or acting like it meant nothing.
Well, it did mean something, and it plays out every day for O. This is so much more than a "hotdog" issue.
Please GET IT this next November go-around, America.

Once a website proves to ME that it doesn't apply equal standards to all sides then I consider it worthless. It isn't one incident with Politifact, but many. Most of the examples are from our local CBS affiliate that regularly uses Politifact on our local races, where I know what has and hasn't happened.
However, if I can find enough, different sources to back up their claims I would consider them for a source on that item. It's kind of like the question that lawyers like to use on a witness, "Were you lying then or are you lying now?"

There is no non partisan news outlet. Politifact is nothing but partisan trash, pablum for the masses who want a quick answer and not have to research and make up their own minds.
