Maxine Waters' 'That's Life' Reax to OWS Deaths, Violence, and Crime Ignored by AP, NYT

This one's utterly predictable, but still needs to be noted.

As Edwin Mora at CNS News reported on Wednesday, California Congresswoman Maxine Waters, after a Congressional Progressive Caucus-sponsored event at the Capitol, “when asked to comment ... about the deaths and crimes that have occurred around Occupy protests being held across the country, … said 'that’s life and it happens.'" What's also happened, or actually not happened, is that the Associated Press and the New York Times have failed to note what Waters said, as shown in the following search results on her first name at AP and on her full name (not in quotes) at the Times:

Well, at least they're consistent. Three months ago, the press on the whole almost totally ignored Waters' comment at a Congressional Black Caucus event that "The Tea Party can go to hell." That would be the civil, hygienic, clean-up-after-themselves Tea Party.

Here's a bit more of Mora's CNS report:

When asked to comment Wednesday about the deaths and crimes that have occurred around Occupy protests being held across the country, Rep. Maxine Waters said “that’s life and it happens.”

“That’s a distraction from the goals of the protesters,” Waters, who says she supports the Occupy movement, told CNSNews.com after an event at the Capitol sponsored by the Congressional Progressive Caucus.

... “Let me just say this: Anytime you have a gathering, homeless people are going to show up,” said Waters. “They will find some comfort in having some other people out on the streets with them. They’re looking for food. Often times, the criminal element will invade. That’s life and it happens, whether it’s with protesters or other efforts that go on in this country.

“So I’m not deterred in my support for them because of these negative kinds of things,” said Waters. “I just want them to work at doing the best job that they can do to bring attention to this economic crisis and the unfairness of the system at this time.”

... At the Occupy L.A. site—in the city where Rep. Waters' congressional district is located—five people have been charged with crimes, according to the Los Angeles Times. These include a man who allegedly exposed himself and masturbated in the presence of children.

My, Ms. Waters is mighty tolerant of the people involved with causes she supports. But at least we know she supports the Occupy movement. Given her comments, she really owns it.

imagine if some GOP congressman had said 'Oh, that's life - it happens' after Giffords was shot.

Today's Democrat party is a blight on freedom, liberty and decency.

And as we wish Congresswoman Giffords well as she continues her courageous recovery, let's not forget that 6 citizens died in that same event, though the MSM hardly mentions them.

So pathetic....

Submitted by TheAngryConservative on Fri, 11/18/2011 - 2:04am.

"That’s a distraction from the goals of the protesters"

What ARE their goals exactly? And even if they HAD a coherent short-list of demands, they would destroy this country if implemented.

And let's face it, if anyone showed up at a Tea Party protest and flashed a kid, she would be condemning it for a week as being emblematic of the Tea Party demographic. It's the same ole shizzle....if they're on your side, defend it or explain it away, if not demagogue the f*** out of it.

I personally don't believe that most of the OWS peeps are violent....most of them seem to be pretty docile (but dangerously ignorant) and they, with certain constraints, have the right to do what they're doing (but defecating, fornicating, or spreading disease in the streets is not a "right", folks....take a shower and get a real job you nasty freaks).

We have, I fear, confused power with greatness. ~ Stewart Udall

I'm quoting from memory, but I remember distinctly that the sum & total of her complaint was that the Tea Party was... holding signs.

And the GOP gesturing support was... offensive to her.

Uh-huh.

They didn't crap on the Capital Steps, cupcake.

And I don't recall the GOP equivalent of the DCCC OFFICIALLY ENDORSING them and SOLICITING 100,000 people to join.

Can you IMAGINE if a SINGLE TEA PARTY did ANYTHING even REMOTELY CLOSE to ONE of the 3,500+ arrests they've racked up?

OMG.

DOES MAXINE WATERS NEEDS AN EXORCISM?

Submitted by GlenStanish on Fri, 11/18/2011 - 5:17am.

According to a story in the Daily Rash, when members of the Congressional Black Caucus appeared on the Maury Povich show, Maxine Waters cursed and hissed like a woman possessed. According to the transcript, her head even spun around on her neck! http://www.thedailyrash.com/congressional-black-caucus-to-make-tea-party...

That "lady"

Submitted by jon_torlin on Fri, 11/18/2011 - 8:41am.

That "lady" might say some stupid things on a regular basis(neck in neck with Sheila Jackson Lee) but there's no doubt that she's evil and cold-blooded as a person.

If I had to describe her in one sense, it's not her being on the plantation, it's helping run the plantation, maybe even one of the plantation owners.

Ugh, my stomach turns when I see a picture of her!  Soetoro's a different kind of evil, but Waters, SJL, and others, they don't have the same values of life that Conservatives do.  I can't see how they live day to day.

Follow up

Submitted by Cooper on Fri, 11/18/2011 - 12:37pm.

The follow up question should have been "In that respect Ms. Waters, should people be urged to keep their young children away from these dangerous places?"

Its time for conservatives to start asking liberals questions with implied answers they way they do it. Fire with fire, not this open ended question crap where they can skirt their way out of it like slithering snakes.

That explaines it

Submitted by CobraMan on Fri, 11/18/2011 - 12:49pm.

"Let me just say this: Anytime you have a gathering, homeless people are going to show up,” said Waters. “They will find some comfort in having some other people out on the streets with them. They’re looking for food. Often times, the criminal element will invade. That’s life and it happens, whether it’s with protesters or other efforts that go on in this country."

So, that explains the violence, the crimes, the civil disobedience of the Tea Party events. Larges gatherings tends to inspire chaos. That's life and we should just accept it.

What's that? There wasn't any crimes, any violence, any civil disobedience, at all, at Tea Party Rallies even though the Tea Party rallies were several times larger than the biggest Occupy protest ? Hummm... So much for Maxine's chaos theory.
