Time.com Also Deceived by Palin-Aguilera Anthem Satire, Seems to Claim It Wasn't
On Thursday (at NewsBusters; at BizzyBlog), I noted that Us Weekly's web site briefly posted a satirical item as legitimate news.
The satire item was about Sarah Palin criticizing Christine Aguilera's infamous National Anthem botch at last week's Super Bowl on Sean Hannity's Monday radio show. Palin didn't even appear on Hannity's show on Monday. Once caught by gossipcop.com, Us Weekly pulled the item.
The same cannot be said of Time.com. Time was also apparently fooled, but seems to be pretending that it knew the item was satire all along. Readers can judge for themselves from the graphics which follow.
Here's the original:

Here's the item as currently posted with a "clarification":

I'd say that what Time put up is not a "clarification" at all. It's a "correction," unless Time assumes that everyone clicked through to the original Current.com item labeled as "Comedy." Even then, a "Comedy" label is far from being the same as "Satire."
Sarah Palin is justifiably not amused, and according to FoxNation.com, sent the following email to the publication's Congressional Correspondent Jay Newton-Small:
Subject: Great job, MSM!
Jay - pls tell your bosses there at Time Magazine thank you for the invitations to attend the upcoming functions. I'll sure put a lot of thought into those invitations.
Then, have your editors retract Time's most recent ridiculous lies about me supposedly giving Sean Hannity a radio interview wherein I supposedly talked about Christina Aguilera (that I slammed her for her Nat'l Anthem mistake, and called for her deportation, etc). You guys were fooled into running a fake story that even US Weekly pulled and apologized for their blunder. Total lies - and you guys (once again) even put quotation marks around things I have never uttered. Then, Time needs to run an apology to Christina along with the retraction. (Add Hannity in your apology, too...those good folks don't deserve to be in a caustic, untrue story about me.) Thanks much - keep up the great work, Time Magazine.
In case Jay is wondering, Palin's last sentence is satire, not a compliment.

of Obama has people seeing that the mainstreammedia lied about him. So too is that the case about Sarah.
Folks are seeing the truth about them both for themselves.
Palin should make a run in 2012. In at least three specific situations, the media will be taken out of the equation and the people will be able to see both of them head to head on their own.
Sarah will eat Obama for lunch and there will be nothing the lefties in media can do to stop it. Those three debates alone will overshadow years of media garbage.

if Palin runs, and she loses, I'd bet a good part of the blame will fall upon the GOP. People like Gringrich and the pundits will not support her because she's not interested in party politics, she's interested in preserving our country.
Then they'll blame her for the loss.
As much as a think Palin is great

I think she will be eaten up in debate with the Master "D" Bater in Chief.
Palin can take the heat obviously, but I don't hear enough details in her speeches.
Her talking points need to be zoomed in on and until she does so, her ability to handle a debate where details are critical will be a problem. It's not enough to speak in broad terms.
That' BO's game. But this political technique has saturated the public and this detail I refer to is needed to make the difference.
So, what you're saying is

So, what you're saying is that Palin will held to a higher authority than Obama? What a shocker.

Yeah, hard to believe, ain't it???
Just let Palin try to get away with a line like "We are the ones we've been waiting for" or "the planet [will begin] to heal....."
and the media will pounce on it just like the nonsense it is.

I'd disagree slightly- her FB comments are often quite detailed on policy. I think she gets that criticism often though -no details, all fluff- and yet she's not doing it at the SOTU! It would be interesting to see a comparison between her (oral) talking points since Jan. '09 and Barry's as they relate to policy, and another one of her specific policy points and the other top contenders for the GOP nomination, both oral and written.
I can't be sure of the results, but I'd bet she's been pretty close to par in both cases. I just don't think you really hear specifics from anyone for very long. Sometimes in a tough primary fight to differentiate candidates, but once it gets to a general election you already know they're both just trying to say what they need to court independents and hide how left they really are.
I will give Barry credit though, he was very specific by which date GITMO would be closed.

Not doubting what you have posted. But consider that I can't point to a dialog/debate that she has been in where she exhibited this detail. If you can provide that, great. I am just concerned that she will be bullied in debate and needs to be quite strong in her positions and never turn the other cheek and attack. The debates will be brutal.

Yep, could be.
I'm not convinced she's running though. I'd probably support her given the current crop, but I think she'd better serve the GOP in her current role. If we win in 2012, she can surely deflect a good deal of media attention her way to the benefit of the next president, and she can help keep him or her in line. Conversely, if Barry wins, she can continue to tear him and the dems down as she's been doing. She's very effective right now; definitely moreso than any other Republican.

Sorry, of you list only West would be any good. Pawlenty and Christie are both RINOs.
And you forgot to mention Dr. Condoleeza Rice, Bobby Jindal, or J.C Watts. All great choices if only we could interest them in the job.

When and If

When and if Palin actually runs, she will have plenty of time to talk specifics in her speeches. Most people who attend her speeches right now don't want to hear wonkish comments. If you're one of those who say she doesn't address issues, you might want to educate yourself before you continue to embarrass yourself. She has published numerous FB notes and op-eds that address issues quite nicely.
Op-eds, OK, but are you

Op-eds, OK, but are you saying we should look to Palin's FACEBOOK page for policy statements???
I know this is the Facebook and Twitter age, but that's ridiculous!

Her notes page does have some policy specifics "noted"; at least in the context of the discussion.

Her facebook page is a great tool because the Establishment media doesn't tell the truth about her positions. FB is one of the the most effective places she can avoid the Establishment media filter - for now.
This is a reason she did the show about Alaska. There too the Establishment media filter was eliminated.
Without Sarah, the last presidential cycle would have been a landslide. Many who had zero intention of voting for McCain oted for that ticket strictly because of Sarah. I am among that group.
I ask you squarely, where would you have people look for a true reading of Sarah's positions if not her own page? MSNBC? FOX? The L.A. TImes? THe Chicago Tribune? USA Today? Time Magazine?
As it pertains to twitter, that is the soundbite Mecca. Sarah eats em up there too. She is a truthspeaker and that is why she munches them there too. She is the real deal, so don't buy into the doubters claims that got us McCain last time around.
Many said Palin would be trounced by Biden. That din;t go exactly as the MSM had planned even while she was hamstrung by McCain handlers. Unleashed, as she is now, would see Obama doing nothing more than filibustering and looking like the fool he is. With the ability to pose questions directly to him during one on one debate, Obama will fold easily. You know why? He is not a truthspeaker. And yes, it really is that simple.

Palin's FB notes are linked all over the internet including all the news sites. They are also discussed on all the news shows. So yes, her posting policy statements on Facebook is very effective.

Did you not see the Palin/Biden debate? She blew me away, and he was the same old bs pol.
The Angle/Reid debate had the same dynamic. The local press almost as much as admitted she ate his lunch!!!
I hear Palin, or see what she's written, and I get it from beginning to end - it's not stuffed with the typical bs pol's throw in to sound so smart. It's refreshing!!!
