Tone Deaf: Will Media Give Obamas’ Ice Cream Outing the ‘Bush Golf Treatment’?

Boy, the press can really do the nitty-gritty detail work (also saved here) when they set their minds to it (graphics at right via West Coast Outpost):

ObamasSnackWhileTehranBurns0609

(more below the fold)

As Hot Air's Ed Morrissey's Hot Air has pointed out at his running commentary, this fawning would be a bit more palatable if leftist commentators and comedians hadn't gasped at and ridiculed George W. Bush hitting a golf shot after commenting about the Middle East and the War on Terror. Do you think Jon Stewart, who thought the golf shot vid was so funny, will find "humor" in the Obamas' ice cream outing?

Meanwhile, Morrissey notes "The latest unverified/rumored death toll is 150. In other news, Obama ordered a small cup of vanilla" (Twitter death toll link corrected by me).

Patterico has compared the tweets from Tehran with those from CBS's White House correspondent Mark Knoller, who was on Ice Cream Watch tonight.

Exit question: Who believes that the video of a dying woman Morrissey is carrying at Hot Air (WARNING: Very graphic; direct link here) will appear on an establishment media web site?

We will NOT meddle - we will eat ice cream and let them

handle their own affairs!  Deaths????  No No No  I repeat, we will NOT meddle!  More ice cream please!  The 'audacity' of the man is showing ONCE again!

Uh er it seems I uh er forgot my wallet.

[edit] darn, I just read Jake Tapper's report and he mentioned that President Obama paid with CASH!  Please be sure to click on Jake's story so you can get ALL the details!

I'm sure there are MANY American families who can't make it to the nearest ice cream shop because of the economy - but the president can take a 12 limousine caravan to get some ice cream.  I guess the White House kitchen ran out!

Remember now folks, you can't just take a plane to Vegas...but I CAN DO ANYTHING I WANT AND GO ANYWHERE I WANT - BECAUSE I WON!  And I will be sure my brown-noses in the press spell it out for you in great detail so you can finally get it through your thick heads - I WON!

DO AS I SAY, NOT AS I DO!

Cape~Food & Obama...

This is slightly off topic and may sound a little goofy, but I swear this man's selfishness comes out clear as day when it comes to food! I mean, we all have to eat and there's nothing wrong with enjoying food ... but he has this way of showing his true colors with food. He gets very irritable/impatient with others when he doesn't get fed on time or what he wants or how much he wants, and he has a way of focusing on food that is really odd to me ... it's like the food thing with him goes to the core of how he always must be feeding himself -- and heck if you get between him and his hotdog -- if you are bleeding in the street, I get the feeling he will step right over you to get to a hotdog cart!

It sticks in my mind because when campaigning, he got all ticky with a reporter when he was interrupted from eating his food. I remember seeing a rally in Wisconsin where the people were standing for hours in the heat (families with lots of little kids), waiting on him to give a speech -- he was pretty late -- and he was all cranky and cut his speech short and told them all how frickin' hungry he was and how he had to eat -- it really was like he was irritated with them for even being there. I couldn't believe it! It stuck in my mind because of all McCain had given for his country, and Obama couldn't endure a few stomach rumblings for the crowd that showed up for HIM. Since the campaign trail, I've seen the same type of thing over and over again with his love affair with himself and FOOD. Maybe it's a reach, but I swear food brings out his true (insensitive/entitled) side. It's like the few times he can't hide who he truly is.

I can't believe I wrote that much about Obama and food. Sorry, but this is one of those things that really has gotten on my nerves with him! And today, with Iranians suffering on the streets, I find it just intolerable to hold it in today... sure, get your free custard loaded up with all the toppings, Mr. President. Never mind the world around you.

Food supply

I think you make a good point, maybe turn this into a meatier (sorry) essay?  Seriously, when I read your post, it put me in mind of the Canada Free Press "Narcissist in Chief."  I think all conservs would benefit with a reading of Sam Vaknin's "Malignant Self Love"  http://samvak.tripod.com/

This testiness over his physical needs is a lot like a narcissist's pursuit of Narcissistic Supply.

Don't forget, he has to work out a lot, too.  He can't be bothered with visiting sick troops when it's his "personal time" at the gym.

Carolina~

"Meatier essay" -- I love it! LOL.

And good point on the personal time at the gym. Yep, I do think that goes right along with it. Remember how he just HAD to play basketball during the campaign? Really, it's pretty amazing the guy "endured" enough of what he had to do to just be elected. Darn it anyway. One or two more Dunkin' Donuts stops and game of hoops and maybe we'd have McCain now. ^_^

I'm going to look up your link now ... but it sure sounds right!

Are you serious?

We should not mettle in Iran's 'election' the risk is far greater than the reward. the supreme leader still controls what the country does.

there have always been MANY American families who couldn't make it to the nearest ice cream shop, since there has even been ice cream shops. (i.e. homeless, minimal wage workers)

Every president since Kennedy has had a presidential motorcade because of security reasons. The president when on trips takes at least two of every vehicle, in case one breaks down or is attacked.

Obama didn't say you (anyone and everyone) can't just take a plane to Vegas. He was speaking to the corporation who took bailout money, taxpayer money that it is irresponsible to ask for a bailout while they spend excessive amounts of money on frivolous trips to Vegas, or any other resort.

HE CAN DO ANYTHING HE WANTS AND GO ANYWHERE HE WANTS -BECAUSE HE IS THE PRESIDENT OF THE US.

Get back to me when Obama waste HALF the time on vacation that Bush did. Which would be a long long time.

→ Meatier Shower

I'm wishing this President would spend about four years on vacation.

Most of us would gladly spring for his chronic absence from the Oval Office.

Only problem, Biden and Pelosi would be fighting over who's the boss.

Now CA, I know you know

that Nan and good ole Joe would be standing by as usual, because the guy running the show, the man behind the curtain would still be there:  Rahm "the fish monger" is pulling the strings on this puppet, and it's straight out of Chicago's machine.

→ I guess so

Who am I to call Obama's mentor and spiritual father a liar.

When Jeremiah Wright claims it's Axelrod and Emanuel running the show, I've just got to say to myself.  "He's an ordained minister.  He wouldn't lie, would he?"

So on this Fathers Day, I hope Barack takes the time to call his spiritual father in that predominantly white neighborhood he recently moved to, and tell him just how much he truly loves him.

HE CAN DO ANYTHING HE WANTS

HE CAN DO ANYTHING HE WANTS AND GO ANYWHERE HE WANTS -BECAUSE HE IS THE PRESIDENT OF THE US.

And you voted this clown in.  With an answer like that you should not be allowed to vote.  In fact you should step up and get a lobotomy.

All presidents can do

All presidents can do anything they want in regards to where they go and what they want to do when they are out. Like get ice cream or cheese burger. Or ride their mountain bike, or clear brush on their ranch.

We were told, before he

We were told, before he took office, Obama doesn't work nights or weekends and needs to be home by 3:30 to play with his kids. Real dedicated to the job.

Where were you when Bill

Where were you when Bill Clinton took 3 weeks a year to  play in Martha's Vineyard?

President Bush did NOT go "on vacation."

He went to Texas, the "Western White House" so to speak, with his full load of work,  all his communications, etc. "Working from home" I guess you could call it.

He did not fly anywhere with his wife to see a show, or to go out to dinner and play basketball with his buddies (Chicago).

I didn't think it was physically possible, but this both sucks and blows.  -Bart Simpson

I was in elementary school

I was in elementary school when Clinton was in office.

Oh so when he was clearing brush the joint cheifs were there, or when he was mountain biking was it like a 12 person mountain bike?

I only bring up the Western White House because of this nonsense of the ice cream or the date night in NYC. Get back to me when the days Obama are away from Washington approach the number of days Bush was away from Washington.

24 Ever heard of the TELEPHONE?

You need to check the number of hours per day Bush worked VS 0bama.

Bush averaged 16 hour days.

0bama 6 hours per day.

Who cares where they are.

Reagan VS Carter and 0bama

24...

Did I say he should "meddle"? There is a balance, agreed. I said in another post that I know it is tricky. But I was referring to his overall lack of sensitivity, and if you don't get it, you don't get it. It'd be nice for him to not play it Mr. Cool all the time & show some heart...and yeah, maybe give up an ice cream treat once in awhile (and like many fine folks have pointed out here, some other elaborate trips, etc. in the midst of the economic woes). Nobody is saying the man can't do what he wants. But it's the lack of common sense/wisdom/sensitivity. With all liberals complain through the years on Republicans not "getting it" regarding the Everyday Joe, I think it's pretty ironic.

And I stand by my comments that how he acts regarding food speaks to the inner man. Just more of the same "me, me, me."

I have asked you for these Vac statistics before

Get back to me when Obama waste HALF the time on vacation that Bush did. Which would be a long long time.

Re statement

Someone pointed out today that his too-little-three-days-too-late statement today quoting Martin Luther King shows that his aim is at Americans, and not Iranians. He's playing politics as usual, and it's all about himself.

But does he really want to see democracy spread throughout the world? Based on his actions, he doesn't have much respect for democracy in our country; he would rather be a dictator himself.

Is it stupidity or arrogance??

Obama seems to have an unerring habit of picking the worst possible time to do something...The last time he did this was the weekend before GM went belly up and filed for bankruptcy, when he and Michelle flew (at taxpayer's expense) to NYC for dinner and a play. This time around, while Tehran and the rest of Iran is on the verge of going up in flames and people are literally dying in the streets protesting a dictatorial, repressive regime, what does "The One" do? He very publicly, with plenty of cameras rolling, goes out for an ice cream. Isn't that sweet? I don't think he should be denied the chance to take his girls out for an ice cream, and it is Father's Day weekend, but with the horrendous situation in Iran unfolding by the minute, this may not have been the best time to do that.

I can't decide if Obama's apparent tin ear to things like this is the result of stupidity, or just blind arrogance...(maybe both).

"The problem is not that people are taxed too little...the problem is that government spends too much." ~President Ronald Reagan

I'm going with the

I'm going with the latter.

"Excuse me, Mr. President, we just got a report from Iran...."

Can't I just eat my custard?!

I didn't think it was physically possible, but this both sucks and blows.  -Bart Simpson

mother...Exactly!

That's what I was thinking...One of his people gives him an urgent piece of news while he's munching away...What would he do?? Continue eating and being adored by the Obamatons in the crowd, or would he ditch the ice cream and leave immediately? Hmmmm...Enquiring minds would love to know...

And you're likely right...It's probably the latter...

"The problem is not that people are taxed too little...the problem is that government spends too much." ~President Ronald Reagan

Motherbelt et al.

You're giving him too much credit.

This is straight up clueless.  He's so completely self involved that he had absolutely no earhtly clue that his trip for custard could be seen as a bad thing.

He should watch the videos of the people in the streets of Iran.  I saw a girl about his daugher's age take a bullet today.  I wonder what flavor of custard she liked?

Just a Reminder...

the last time conservatives were calling out Obama's lack of decivise decsion making, over the Somali pirate maresk alabama situation, what happened? He gave the o.k. for lethal force and three pirates were shot dead, one arrested and the whole crew was saved and rescued.

Just because the administration hasn't said anything publicly or made a speech about it doesn't mean they are ignoring the Iran situation. They can't be seen as mettling over the Iranian election in the eyes of the Iranian leaders.

Every trip the president of the united states takes is on the taxpayer's dime, I do believe.

Just a Reminder

Yeea-no.

Obama did not approve lethal force.  He voted present, doing nothing but preventing the military from ending the situation days earlier.  The on-site CO took advantage of the one loophole Obama left (the event of a hostage's life being threatened), one likely made to avoid blame if things went south.  Get your story straight.

Our "president" votes Present

Just like him voting "present" in the current Iranian situtation.

Liberals constantly demand that we accept a glaring falsehood as truth; Obama's elimination of the word "terror" will make terrorist acts less terrifying

Present

And he'll continue to vote present, because that's all he knows how to do, until the media holds him accountable.

Which means he'll vote present for the rest of his administration.

He's a Wimp, with a capital "W".  He's so afraid of making a mistake that he is absolutely frozen in place....if you need proof of that statement, just watch him off-prompter (the joint interview w/Sarcozy comes to mind).

A four year old could make better decisions (and more timely, too).

I hope he fails, too.

24enak...The taxpayer's dime...

Okay, let's talk about the taxpayer's dime...Obviously, everywhere the president goes is on the taxpayer's dime (travel expenses, security, etc.) I have no problem with that-He and his family have to be protected. BUT...I do have a problem with the president and his wife traveling, at the taxpayer's expense, to NYC for no other reason than to go to dinner and a play, during a terrible recession (which his policies are making worse, by the way) in which millions of Americans are losing their jobs, and on the weekend before GM was going to file for bankruptcy and put even more people out of work. That to me, is not a good idea, and is an abuse of the perks that he has as president. If he wanted to go to NYC for dinner and a play, he could've waited till the next time he was in town for business of some kind...Lord knows, Obama seems to go somewhere on Air Force One just about every other day... That would have been the prudent and more financially responsible thing to do, rather than jetting around the country on a date, while the taxpayers pay for it.

"The problem is not that people are taxed too little...the problem is that government spends too much." ~President Ronald Reagan

I would...

have a problem with the Obama's going on a date night to NYC if they did every weekend, or even every month but they have done this once, have they not?

Hasn't the jobless rate decreased like every month since Obama took office in January. Haven't job loss estimates been fewer than expected under Obama? Hasn't the stock market steadly increased since Obama been in office? (even on the days that he wasn't overseas.)

24enak...You're kidding right?

I don't care if the Obama's have gone out on a date to NYC once, twice or thirty times since he became president. In this period of economic hard times for so many Americans, I don't think it sends a very good message for the prez and his wife to be flying around the country on a date, when the taxpayers (who are already on the hook for bailouts, tax increases and deficits) foot the bill for the plane to get them there.

As for the jobless rate dropping since Obama was sworn in, you're dead wrong...The jobless rate JUST dropped (a very small amount) for the first time this last week. According to his own estimates, Obama said that the unemployment rate wouldn't exceed 8% if his stimulus package was passed...Well, guess what? The package DID pass (unfortunately), and the unemployment rate is at 9.4%...Can you explain that??? And no, again, the stock market has not steadily increased since Obama was sworn in...The slight improvement in the stock market has just recently begun, in the last 30 days. Good Lord...What do think? That Obama magically caused the stock market and the jobless rate to improve just by being sworn in? You must be one of the folks who believe that Obamessiah has some kind of mystical powers, and that he is going to save us all, and fix all of our problems by the sheer force of his will...You need to put down the Kool-Aid and pay closer attention to the business news.

Well first of all, it was

Well first of all, it was warm here in the Mid-Atlantic today, so an ice cream would be a nice refreshment. And second of all, he probably had not had a camera on him to that point- with the talking head shows all morning and the Open this afternoon, he had to get out, less a day go by without Hancock get'n his mug on tv. (Yes, I watched Hancock tonight for the first time- superhero... messes stuff up wherever he goes... some parellels there given the jibjab video today.)

→ Enter, Ann Coulter

Anyone who tuned in to Geraldo Rivera tonight to see an Obama slobberfest was yanked back to reality by none other than Ann Coulter, making the same observation Mr. Blumer proffers.

OK, FOX is a whole lot more balanced than any old alphabet channel, so it doesn't really count, but just like the internet, FOX has a way of being faithful to the surreal juxtapositions this President presents.

Tax that sugary ice cream

So it's ok for the president to shove sugary treats down his kids throats, when all the world is agahst at the thought of this stuff potentially killing them? What kind of father would do that? And what about the excessive electricity required not only to make that ice cream, but to keep it cool? Is this man enjoying something that will lead to all our deaths fairly soon? Why couldn't he eat something that was generated from wind or solar power, rather than ice cream created from old-fashioned coal and gas power plants?

I am simply ashamed that our dear leader fell into this trap -- and that the msm is going to expose him because of all the hypocrisy.

Jon Stewart made jokes about both Obama and Biden and how MSNBC went live for five minutes, fawning over the outing http://www.thedailyshow.com/video/index.jhtml?videoId=226597&title=Where's-the-Chief?

How many days did W. spend clearing brush, riding his mountain bike, massaging the German leader shoulders, play golf, go to camp David, while we were in two wars?

For goodness sakes he went out with his daughters for some ice cream I don't think it was a weekend trip to his ranch. It was a couple of hours spend with his daughters on Fathers day weekend.

The W. clip on Jon Stewart show even said that W. was making sense (not the joke, he was serious about that) but when he said "now watch this drive" after talking about the problems in the middle east, not the right thing to say.

Other than me...is there anyone who pays attention to you still?

Re Pantywaist

Great article. I wish the Brits would come up with an American edition of some of their newspapers and distribute them here, and a British TV news network would do an American version for cable distribution as well. We need other options in news. I read an article a couple of days ago on the British magazine 'The Economist', one of the few newsmagazines that is thriving and growing.

But I prefer 'President Prissypants', it just has a more appropriate ring to it than President Pantywaist.

OUCH! I wish he were

OUCH!

I wish he were wrong, but unfortunately I think he is spot on.

Since he moved address from Chicago to Washington, his stance has become more nuanced (ie he hasn't a clue what to do).

So he will try first one approach, then "recalibrate" it, each "nuance" making him look weaker.

Is this what Joe Biden meant when he said it wouldn't be clear that Obama was doing the right thing?

I don't mind him having a treat with his kids

I don't mind him having a treat with his kids -- good for him for spending time with them -- but as the story mentions, Bush had people on his back for playing golf during a time of Middle Eastern crisis, so what's good for the goose...

The video of that poor girl

The video of that poor girl was just heart wrenching to watch. For me, depictions of human suffering are always intensified when it involves youth. I just wish that right at the bottom of the written description of what had happened to her there wasn't a larged sized font link in red and underline that said, "Meet Sexy Women in your Area!".

I am pretty sure I don't

I am pretty sure I don't trust anyone who calls ice cream frozen custard.

I am also pretty sure that if you called it frozen custard here in Texas you get your butt whipped, and you ought to.

If it was Blue Bell, that is really all you'd have to say.

What about...

...frozen yogurt?   <ducking for cover>

This man's arrogance knows

This man's arrogance knows no bounds....with the msm ensuring that.

The guy has absolute zilch for common sense...that picture of that gal (I guess they are calling her Neda) alone lying dead, blood pouring from her in the street with her father wailing should have been a clue to not go out for a treat of any kind....

But....NO....Obama, he's the messiah, he walks on water with his daughters to get frozen custard....

He doesn't even get there is something very wrong with this picture on a day like yesterday....and the majority of the msm here ooh and aah over this.

Disgusting....all of it.

People are dying for one word in Iran...Freedom...and this outing of his is important how?

He shows what a classless clown he is all the time in my opinion, but he did it big time yesterday.

Doubling down on stupid is not a particularly good idea. ~Andrew Breitbart

bt...You said it!

I said earlier in this thread that I didn't know whether this was stupidity or arrogance on Obama's part...It's likely both...Either way, his very public outing for ice cream, while Iran is imploding, was a very bad idea.

"The problem is not that people are taxed too little...the problem is that government spends too much." ~President Ronald Reagan

Honestly, fellow

Honestly, fellow conservatives, who cares? Yes, the world is going crazy in the middle east. The guy just went to go out to get custard with his kids.

We know the media is fawning its plume when it comes to Obama, but I'm sure we all remember how we defended Condi Rice when liberals criticized her for buying shoes during Katrina. Or how Bush shouldn't have been playing guitar, he should have been in DC, monitoring the situation.

While I'm not taking the position of defending the man, I just hate to see political discourse devolve into "well, when Bush did this, liberals complained, so when Obama does the same, we'll complain."

There's something more important here, though. If Obama sets a moral tone for the African-American community--and as someone in the public schools, I can most assuredly tell you he DOES have an affect on young black men--then isn't him being seen with his daughters on Father's Day weekend a positive thing, demonstrating a father's responsibility and devotion to family?

Sheesh, these are crazy times we live in. I just defended Obama!

mj... Yeah...it's just

mj...

Yeah...it's just lovely.

Today is Father's Day...yesterday wasn't.

Btw...as people are dying in revolution for freedom in their country, let alone a country that wants Israel off the map as they continue on with their nukes, plus want control of us too...no, I do not think the msm's devotion to this little outing with his daughters are important at all.

Neither did this father yesterday.

Doubling down on stupid is not a particularly good idea. ~Andrew Breitbart

Eat at home, Barry!

I don't have a problem with Obama getting in a little time with the kids or having frozen custard.  But as the POTUS, even these little jaunts to the outskirts of the D.C. Metro involve a considerable expense, not the least of which is for security.  And he's making a lot of these runs since taking over the White House.  It shows a disregard of the taxpayers who finance these little visits and the security personnel who have to make it possible.  I bet he could get anything he wants brought to him at the White House.  He should try that more often.

When you put the clowns in charge, don't be surprised when a circus breaks out.

Golf outing

The media can't give this the "Bush Golf Treatment", because then they'd have to give Obama the "Bush Golf Treatment" for his Memorial Day activities.

Oh wait, no they won't, it's the MSM.  Silly me, move along.
