Just When You Think the Big 3 Evening Newscasts Can't Sink Any Lower, They Do

NBCABCCBSchartGraphicI could of course be commenting on the poor quality of the alleged journalism. But in this case I'm talking about their ratings, which is of course largely caused by said poor journalism.

Three weeks ago (at NewsBusters; at BizzyBlog), I noted that the Big 3 networks' evening newscasts' combined ratings had dropped about 17% since the collective high they achieved during the week of January 26, the first full week after Barack Obama's nomination.

Make that 21%. In the 25-54 demographic, the drop has been 30%. And it's not just a seasonality thing. The collective drop compared to last year is over 4%, continuing a long-term decline the nets surely hoped they might prevent if they could just get their guy elected to the White House. No dice, guys.

Here is an updated week-by-week graph for each network since the first of the year, followed by some demographic and overall info (based on info found at the Evening News Ratings Category at Media Bistro's TV Newser):

Do you think any of them are wondering if they maybe, just maybe, should have started paying attention to that Tea Party thing a bit earlier than, say, tomorrow morning?

Good Bye MSM

....and good riddance.

Network news replaced by fascist cablers

Unfortunately these 'supposed' professionals have driven viewers to the pretenders:  Olberman, Stewart and other comedians.  Since half the country has not been provided with enough education to think rationally, it hardly matters anymore.  SAD.

Why does Katie Couric still have a job?

Honestly, how does she keep her job with these ratings?

Of course, a more germane questions is why does CBS News still exists?  Who in their right mind goes to the Nets for news anymore?

Couric still has her job

Couric still has her job because she is  a propaganda reader without scruples. At least the nutjobs like Olbie and Chrissy don't pose as serious journalists. Couric, Gibson, Williams, Mitchell, et al, DO pose as unbiased reporters and are dangerous. In reality, they are media whores.

Price is right

CBS would make more money with Drew Cary doing the "Price is Right" in her timeslot.   Why the delay.  Carry is actually nice person. To use MSM Shibboleth, "Some say Couric is difficult and overpaid"

blah....

...those numbers still kick cables numbers all day long!

"There are two types of people in this country; those who provide freedom and those who enjoy it." MM says...

Too bad they won't understand

that it's a reflection on their clear bias and faulty reporting.

Oh they will be paying

Oh they will be paying attention alright...to anything they can lead with that is detrimental regarding the Tea Parties that they can spin with the spies they have via different venues...that has already been in the works.

They aren't all of a sudden care one wit about their ratings just because of tomorrow...

When that occurrence ever happens pigs with lipstick will be flying by my window.

At last, something the MSM

At last, something the MSM is good at:  causing viewers to change the channel.

Yawn...

This doesn't say anything about their overall numbers.

OF COURSE the news media will get a boost during and right after an election cycle. Not big news there. And its not surprising that a large majority of people stop watching what's happening everyday in the news since they are not overlly political people. All this shows is the news networks numbers are going back to where they were before the election cycle over 2 years ago.

Unless of course you're a bitter under-educated over-opinionated unempolyed low-life Republitard old-fart about the age range from 50-65. FOX news primary viewership fart-dust.

Cute by half... Oh

Is it nap time already?

Here are the numbers for the network nightly news since 2006 (data courtesy of Media Bistro):

VIEWERS (IN MILLIONS)                 NBC   ABC   CBS

TOTAL VIEWERS 2006-2007              8.4     8.36    6.74

TOTAL VIEWERS 2007-2008              8.4     8.18    6.15

TOTAL VIEWERS WEEK OF APR 6   8.25   7.48    5.87

DIFFERENCE                                    -1.8%  -10.5%  -12.9%

VIEWERS (IN MILLIONS)   NBC   ABC          CBS

A25-54 2006-2007                 2.59    2.62          2.14

A25-54 2007-2008                 2.59    2.52          1.91

A25-54 WEEK OF APR 6      2.35    2.19          1.82

DIFFERENCE                     -9.3%  -16.4%      -15%

NBC can claim that their overall viewership has been reasonably steady, but they still lost over 9% of that coveted 25-54 age bracket, while ABC and CBS has lost a substantial amount in both overall and 25-54 age groups.

Not quite back to where they were two years ago, now, is it? It actually shows a steady decline since 2006.

Surely you did some research before posting, right? It would be downright stupid not to, right?

Whoops! Almost forgot what I was dealing with.

Also, This misconception

Also,

This misconception that Fox News only has fossils and brain-dead old folks watching that netowrk is not very accurate.

The precentage of news watchers that are in the 25-54 age bracket:

NBC - 28%

ABC - 29%

CBS - 31%

Glenn Beck - 26%

Hannity - 25%

O'Reilly - 23%

Olbermann - 24%

Maddow - 25%

King - 23%

Interesting, isn't it?

Sadly, Nancy Graceless has a wonderful ratio or 25-54 viewers (over 38%). All those young, stupid, news-unsaavy women out there....

Numbers

Would have been nice if the FNC numbers for the same time period was listed as a compairison. We could then have the idiots with their 'Faux News' rants to laugh at.

I FEEL YOUR PAIN !

No I don't, because I have my television news turned off.

But some part of me has sympathy for the News Busters who have to choke down and digest that $#||T so we don't have to.

Prayers for your health and continued mental fortitude....

Great news on tax day

There’s still a God. April 15, the most depressing and criminal day of the year, and Newsbusters comes up with great positive news. Is this a great country or what?
