Just In Time For 'Earth Hour': Americans Care Less Than Ever About Globaloney

SmokestacksGallup has issued two polls in the past couple of weeks showing that the reality is breaking through the non-stop, years-long propaganda blitz known properly known as the Great Global Warming Hoax (characterized by me since January 2007 as globaloney):

  • On March 11, the pollster told us that "Although a majority of Americans believe the seriousness of global warming is either correctly portrayed in the news or underestimated, a record-high 41% now say it is exaggerated." That's up from 30% three years ago.
  • On March 19, we were informed that "For the first time in Gallup's 25-year history of asking Americans about the trade-off between environmental protection and economic growth, a majority of Americans say economic growth should be given the priority, even if the environment suffers to some extent." And it's a 51-42 rout, a 27-point swing from 55-37 the other way just two years ago. Since globaloney is the main environmental justification for slowing (really stopping) economy growth, this result is a good proxy for increased rejection of the enviro kool-aid.

Now there's a third. Yesterday, Gallup told us that not only is globaloney increasing not believed and not more important than economic growth, it's the least important environmental issue we face. You have to look past its "clever" title and subhead to get to what should be the lede, but the glum news for Saturday's Earth Hour participants is there (bolds after title are mine):

Water Pollution Americans’ Top Green Concern
Worry about environmental problems has edged up since 2004

The folks behind World Water Day -- a largely U.N.-sponsored effort to focus attention on freshwater resource management, observed this past Sunday -- may be on to something. Pollution of drinking water is Americans' No. 1 environmental concern, with 59% saying they worry "a great deal" about the issue. That exceeds the 45% worried about air pollution, the 42% worried about the loss of tropical rain forests, and lower levels worried about extinction of species and global warming.

Extinction of plant and animal species and global warming are of great concern to just over a third of Americans. However, since more Americans express little to no worry about global warming than say this about extinction, global warming is clearly the environmental issue of least concern to them. In fact, global warming is the only issue for which more Americans say they have little to no concern than say they have a great deal of concern.

Media attention has been, as one would expect, virtually nil. A New York Times advanced search on "Gallup environment" (not in quotes) shows no primary results, only references to Times blogs on the right of the results. A Google News search on "Gallup warming" (again not in quotes) for March 25-26 comes back with four results. Only two besides the Gallup poll itself were directly relevant.

Americans' growing resistance to threatened globaloney mandates and Europeans' flat-out refusal to go along with them (a possible topic for another post, if it can be kept shorter than a book; the tide of European anti-globaloney news is almost overwhelming) continue to be among the most under-reported stories of the year.

Missing Information

What this poll does not show is that if you look closer at the nominal AGW 'believers', when asked how much more they would be willing to spend to reduce the theoretical 'global waming', around half of them would not pay one more nickel.

That indicates that their support, or belief, in AGW is extremely thin and likely based on propaganda.

What's wrong with that?

Everyone knows that dirty old industry will be the only ones who pay (/sarc).

do not be alarmed komrades

Don't worry about these inconvenient public opinions. If the people are resistant to energy control, we will simply cause public anger at big oil and rich airline executives. When environmental fear doesn't work, class warfare always does.

Then we can impose windfall profits to drive energy production down. Rolling brownouts and lines at the gas station will soon get the people angry again. Then all we have to do is tell them the evil fatcats are consuming too much fuel, and by capping their use there will be more left to spread around.Voila: thermostat control without the pesky global warming marches.

Gore has to be upset

he looses the presidency by a hair, he gets a lot of sychophants all juiced up on the global warming hoax as a means of socializing the world right as the globe hits a cooling trend...now, he watches Hillary become SoS, Bill and Silky get more tail then they can handle while he just gains weight.  After a two decades of work trying to kill capitalism with his hoax, he watches obama accomplish it in 60 days.  it's got to piss him off to no end.

you know he'll claim some credit for it (remember: he's the guy who invented the Internet)

C-4 plastic on Missouri river, Yea that is caused by AGW

Tell me has the AGW crowd, mentioned ANYTHING about using explosives to clear ICE from rivers?

Gov. John Hoeven said the first demolition round Wednesday, which
used about 160 pounds of C-4 plastic explosive supplied by North
Dakota’s National Guard, "blew a large chunk" of ice out of the river.

"Right away, you could see water moving, as well as ice and trees
that were in the water," he said. "Clearly, they are moving water
through the ice jam now."

The explosives were packed into 80 holes, drilled with an auger into
river ice 3 feet thick, Hoeven said. Helicopters followed up by dumping
640-gallon buckets of road salt onto other portions of river ice in
hopes of weakening it, the governor said.

It's ok to spew salt into the river, GOT A PERMIT FOR THAT?

P.R.I.N.T. Money   30 sec YT

salt

640 gallons salt water is nothing compared to a single truckload of rock salt.  Actually the river has a little salt in it.  Can't wait till they call ocean salt a pollutant and we have to pay to delasalinate the ocean.

seven, it's big bags (640 gallons of 100% salt) all salt.

Add up all the truck loads, used all year, and yes it's a very small amount... however where is a permit?

seven, you are on to something A SALT TAX..good one. sshhhhh!

P.R.I.N.T. Money   30 sec YT

If this was on Cape Cod, it would be autumn before the proper

permits would have been completed and filed - and then DENIED!!!!!

Thank heavens for states that allow COMMON SENSE to be the order of the day.

Great job, Governor AND the good hardworking residents of North Dakota!!!!  You KNOW you can do 'it' better and didn't sit around waiting for 'the government' to come rescue you!

Globalony is right

I was over at a friend of mines house a few months ago and the subject turned to global warming.  He's a firm believer, I'm a firm skeptic.  He started to get ticked off that I wasn't more concerned about the environment, and I'll admit, I was getting a little ticked myself.  So as I looked around in his fully furnished basement where we were watching his big screen TV in his 4200 sq.ft. house (not counting the basement) I turned to him and said, "My house is all electric and my electric bill averages $180.00 a month year round.  What's your like?"

That pretty much ended the conversation and I haven't been back over since.

As Freeman Dyson

As Freeman Dyson said,

"Greens are people who never had to worry about a grocery bill".  Utterly True.

I think I have to update my tag line to that.

There are 2 types of politicians.  Those who know AGW is a sham and stupid ones.

Earth hour my *ss!

My loopy libutard neighbors here in Tahoe think that turning off their lights this Saturday for an hour is some magnificient accomplishment that will somehow help save the earth. Of course, you will never see these morons use a snow shovel to clear their driveways. Why do that when you can crank up that 11 HP blower to clear the 2" accumulation from the night before.

Well... crank up the lights baby! My house is going to be so bright that hour you will be able to see it from space. Clark Griswald's christmas display will look like a night light in comparison. The light emanating from the Luxor in Vegas....hah! A mere one  cell flashlight. Get out the Raybans my libutardinous neighbors because Bobbo wants to light up the moon. I plan on dimming the whole western seaboard once the clock strikes 8:30PM. And at 9:30... it's lights out.

You're kidding right? You

You're kidding right? You actually get snow in Tahoe?

Power-saw to the people - Dexter

Yeah, I'm kidding.

Not anymore. Global warming has turned us into a veritable tropical paradise. I now have bananas crowding out my pines.  A couple more years of this and I should have ocean front property due to the rising sea level. And that's at 6500'.

We'll be shining BRIGHTLY on Cape Cod, too!!!

I wouldn't doubt that it

I wouldn't doubt that it may be coming to a home near you...just ask jolly ol' England...and speaking of Americorp...don't even get me started, I am so past furious with the Senate and all but 14 conservative repubs with what they passed  regarding the increase in funding and programs today I had to turn it...I can barely stand watching congress anymore without going through the roof...ACORN is once again included in the massive bill...there was an  amendment to strip them out of it..it failed by one vote if memory serves me...anyway, all good amendments that I could stand to watch were defeated.

I wished Sen. Hatch would be defeated by a real conservative, I just cannot stand him any longer...he has been in the beltway far too long as far as I am concerned.

Done with my rant for now...lol...nothing I can do about it anyway.

Balance. Common sense.

"For the first time in Gallup's 25-year history of asking
Americans about the trade-off between environmental protection and
economic growth, a majority of Americans say economic growth should be
given the priority, even if the environment suffers to some extent."

I know a lot depends on the over-simplified question being posed by the pollsters but I find it a bit disturbing that a majority say that economic growth should be given priority over the planet itself.  What good does economic growth do you and your family if you're wallowing in your own squalor, or contracting cancer from the air and water?  Hopefully, what people really mean is "there needs to be a balance between preserving this world for future generations and maintaining or improving our standard of living  / economic growth".

I think a distinction needs to be made between "protecting the environment" and "stopping something that isn't happening, or that we can't stop anyway" (global warm...eh...climate change).

I'm not an "environmentalist" but I'm also not a "progress at any cost" guy either.  I do believe strongly that we should take reasonable measures to protect the environment.

And for the record, I'm one of the biggest bashers of Al Gore and the AGW cult you'll find on this board.

The thing is, as posted above, I believe the majority of

conservatives are already living a life of good stewardship of our earth.

To list just one of our many 'good steward' efforts is the fact that we have been using our own tote sacks for groceries for over ten years...I feel certain that beats the track record of Ms. 'one-square' or Ms. Tipper!

And think of ALL those non-biodegradable bottles of water everyone was drinking fron at Ms. one-square's concert/gatherings - in SUPPORT of globaloney!  We have NEVER purchased bottled water!

And we live without air-conditioning - and with thermostat settings of under 65 during the winter...that's what flannel shirts or sweaters are for!

It is the TOTAL hypocrisy of people such as Algore who are living extremely abusive lifestyles i.e., private jet travel - have several mansions using more power than others in their towns combined! - then have the AUDACITY to suggest WE tighten our belts while they continue to live and spend as if there is no tomorrow!

A VERY good example of 'Do as I say, Not as I do' is our president cranking the Oval Office thermostat up to an uncomfortable level (Axelrod said it was because he grew up in Hawaii - forget his recent years in Chicago!) - and on and on and on - anyone care to add??

 "protecting the

"protecting the environment" . You mean like dumping tons of iron in the oceans to combat global warming.

That's got to be great for the environment.

Kind of like banning DDT to avoid a  maybe problem. And dooming millions to die of malaria in the process.

 "protecting the

"protecting the environment" . You mean like dumping tons of iron in the oceans to combat global warming.

Yeah, guess you're right.  F*kc the environment.

The enviromentalist have

The enviromentalist have done as much if not more to screw up the environment.  The people that drive Hummers with "No Blood for Oil" stickers. Or flying around in a private jet to AGW meetings.

The environmentalist gave us the wildfires in australia. And I would add in this country. They're the ones causing us to cut down the rain forest to grow bio fuels. Starving the third world for bio fuel to go in their jets.

Just saying your for the environment is meaningless.

Limited Disclosure:  I used to belong to the Sierra Club untill they went crazier. Worse of all, I was bribed by Exxon with free New Orleans Saints glasses with fill ups in the 70's.

If only

If only those on the left/environmental whackos would act instead of run their mouths, this would be a non issue. First, put your money where your mouth is; that being "you"..not everyone, but "you" stop using electricity, clothing, automobiles, all the modern conveniences. Maybe take the belief of retroactive abortion, and take yourself out, save the planet. If enough of them would do that, just think would could be accomplished...

Even if they could ever

Even if they could ever prove global warming was a true threat, which they won't, it makes no difference what the U.S. or Europe does.  China and the third-world nations are the true polluters of the World and any little changes we make would never have an effect.

I Want Heat

All I know is I am sick of shoveling all of this global warming out of my driveway. I want Spring and Summer and I want HEAT!!!
