See Jan. 9 Follow-up -- "CNN Doubles Down: Reposts Withdrawn Video of Apparently Faked CPR Attempt on 'Dead' Palestinian Child"
Not that it ever really went away, but fake news is back in Gaza, and the worldwide media is being played.
Many readers will likely detect the fakery in the linked video pictured on the right on their own (HTs to Charles Johnson at Little Green Footballs [LGF] and Bob Owens of Confederate Yankee via Instapundit).
The video purports to show the death and hasty burial of a cameraman's 12 year-old younger brother, one of two children allegedly killed on the roof of their home in rocket fire from an Israeli drone.
A seemingly pretty knowledgeable LGF commenter spotted what many inexpert readers who see the video will also catch (bolds are mine):
I’m no military expert, but I am a doctor, and this video is bullsh-t. The chest compressions that were being performed at the beginning of this video were absolutely, positively fake. The large man in the white coat was NOT performing CPR on that child. He was just sort of tapping on the child’s sternum a little bit with his fingers. You can’t make blood flow like that. Furthermore, there’s no point in doing chest compressions if you’re not also ventilating the patient somehow.
Story Continues Below Ad ↓(no paragraph break in original) .... In a hospital, during a code on a ventilated patient, somebody would probably be bagging the patient during the chest compressions. And they also would have moved the bed away from the wall, so that somebody could get back there to intubate the patient and/or bag him. In short, the “resuscitation scene” at the beginning is fake, and it’s a pretty lame fake at that.
So the question is, were they re-enacting the resuscitation scene by repeating their actions on a corpse, because the child had died earlier? It’s likely that the answer is no, that child is still alive, and is just an actor pretending to be a child who was killed. Why do I say that? Because the big guy in the white coat, if he’s really a doctor, nurse, nurse’s aid, EMT, or any sort of health care provider at all would be entirely aware that tickling the boy’s sternum doesn’t really look like actual chest compressions. If the boy was dead, the man would have done a more convincing job in compressing the chest. The taps on the chest that he’s doing are the sort of thing you see in bad TV dramas .....
Here's what the video link at CNN looks like now (except that the orange box is mine). Note that the false narrative at the top right still remains:

CNN should have known better. The doctor involved in the scene, Mads Gilbert, as described with copious links by the Committe for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting in America (CAMERA), is a Marxist radical with a long-standing hatred of Israel and the United States (some of the links to a Norwegian language site may not be suitable for children's viewing):
Gilbert is a radical Marxist and a member of the political Red (Rodt) party, a revolutionary socialist party in Norway. He has been a pro-Palestinian activist since the 1970's and travelled to Lebanon in support of the Palestinians during the first Lebanon war in 1982. He has long been a vocal opponent of Israel and the U.S. Gilbert has acknowledged that he cannot separate politics from medicine, stating, "there is little in medicine that is not politics." He even criticizes the group Doctors Without Borders for providing medical assistance to both sides in a conflict instead of taking a strong stance and supporting only one party. In a 2006 article in Nordlys, journalist Ivan Kristoffersen lamented the fact that Gilbert allows his humanitarian efforts to be politicized by his radical agenda.
The extent of Gilbert's political agenda and animus toward Israel and the U.S. is best evidenced by his radical support for the 9/11 terrorist attacks against the U.S.In an interview with the Norwegian daily, Dagbladet, shortly after the attacks, Gilbert stated: "The attack on New York was not surprising, after the policy that has led the West in recent decades. I am upset over the terrorist attack, but am equally upset over the suffering which the United States has created. It is in this context that the 5000 dead people must be seen." ..... When asked by Dagbladet if he supported the terrorist attack on the U.S., he replied: "Terror is a bad weapon, but the answer is yes, within the context I have mentioned."
A Jerusalem Post editorial that appeared on January 6, the day before CNN's coverage, should have alerted the network to be skeptical towards Gilbert:
A WORD about Dr. Mads Gilbert: It turns out he's no neutral medical man, but active in "solidarity work with Palestinians" for 30 years. Responding to 9/11, Gilbert didn't rush to New York's Bellevue Hospital to offer his services. Instead, he defended the moral right of the "oppressed" to have launched that attack.
Maybe CNN, instead of having on-air news readers like Kyra Phillips taking strong umbrage at the idea of Joe the Plumber reporting from the Middle East, should put the blue-collar guy on their payroll to get more credible journalistic results.
This is just one example of Mr. Gilbert fooling the media by posing as an impartial humanitarian doctor. Gilbert also was quoted this week without question by the BBC, Canada's Globe and Mail, and ABC Online in Australia. He also speaks on camera at about the 1:00 mark in this CBS Evening news video available at YouTube.
This is just another in a long line of examples proving that when it comes to news out of the Middle East, absolutely everything coming out of Palestinian- or terrorist-controlled areas must be treated with very heavy skepticism.

January 8, 2009 - 23:52 ET by thebutlerdiditI saw the video earlier at LGF, and it was sooo bad. I have no experience with medical stuff like this, and I was thinking it was fake from the get-go. When they take "the body" to bury, his head doesn't loll around, but appears to be well supported by neck muscles, or rigor, but the rest of him isn't stiff looking. The clip show where a missle supposedly hit the house, but there's no singeing or rubble looking damage. The dead give away, to me, was the plastic chair that's still on the roof. Yeah, the kid was "playing" on the roof. More likely he was a look-out. Someone in the comments at LGF noted that there were women at the burial site, and that this is not allowed, I have no idea, but it wouldn't surprise me. CNN keeps looking dumber by the day.

January 9, 2009 - 00:08 ET by doug1950Years ago the Palestenians were having a funeral procession going along while they were being filmed by one of the many left leaning networks. There was screaming and yelling, weeping and yes even some curses being hurled about. A couple of minutes into the funeral all hell breaks loose and the mourners scattered like a busted covey of quail dropping the coffin. The "dead" man suddenly leaps up and hauls azz for cover along with his buds.I bet he never volunteered to be the dearly departed again.

Many of us are still
January 9, 2009 - 07:28 ET by RR GOPMany of us are still clinging to the notion that journalists actually report the news and know what they're talking about because that is the way it's supposed to be.
On the surface we realize that they are nothing more than Leftists instilling propaganda and ignoring anything that goes against their ideology.
Also, if you listen to them carefully (yes, even the ones on Fox News) these are about the most unknowledgeable people I have ever seen. They do not recall obvious connected events and people from the past in current discussions. It's as if any previous knowledge evaporates with every new item that comes up-it's all disjointed.
For example, Foley's (R) name came up on H&C last night but not, uh what's his name ( Tim Mahoney (D)) who was caught in an almost identical scandal.
They seem to have few life experiences, little knowledge of geography, classic literature, science, economics (except their own of course) etc. Few have been in the military so they will routinely call any tracked vehicles (like APCs and self-propelled howitzers) 'tanks' but yet the average American sits there and assumes that they are knowledgeable on all things.
Actually, they have a lot in common with politicians come to think of it! ;-)
One of the 24% who thinks George W. Bush was a great President. One of the 89% who wants to bring back the stock and pillory.
Actually, what you're describing is a chronic lack of ....
January 9, 2009 - 08:50 ET by Tom Blumer.... cultural literacy. E.D. Hirsch wrote a book or two on the problem about 20 years ago that compiled a list of facts, figure, events, and words a truly literate American should know, as well as (IIRC) a list of books a truly literate person needs to have read. He was of course mostly ignored except for being ridiculed for advocating the learning of "useless trivia."
I remember reading through his first list shortly after it came out and thinking that while I knew a pretty good percentage of items there, my parents probably knew more, and kids going to school currently were learning very little.
Your comment and observations support that belief.
Gee CNN always leaving salt
January 9, 2009 - 09:13 ET by eaglewingz08Gee CNN always leaving salt on the wound, especially when the victims are Israel and USA (especially Republican Administrations).
This is an unballanced war or asymetrical war...
January 9, 2009 - 09:22 ET by c5thenThe Israelis are fighting with weapons and troops while the "palestinians"/Islamists are fighting using PR and misinformation. The Islamists know that they cannot beat Israel in a 'real war' using troops and bullets and rockets, etc. This was conclusively proven twice before (those of you who know history know what I am talking about). Therefore, the islamists are using propagande to try and trick the rest of the world into doing what they can not. Every action by Hamas is aimed at getting Israel to do something that they can use in their propaganda. The rocket firing campaign was not meant to injur Israelis (although if that happened they concidered it a plus). It was meant to piss off Israel and make them do exactly what they are doing now, knowing that civilian casualties would be inevitable. In fact, the ammo storage locations and the launch locations are chosen to maximize the possibility of civilian casualties.
Islam doesn't care about free choice, it only cares about the result that it can use in furtherence of the lies. If some children have to be sacrificed and called martyrs (against their will) then Islam is perfectly OK with that, as is evidenced by the current events. If the 'journalists' have to fake footage to get the propaganda out, then they will do that. If they have to photoshop some images, that's easy to do. Remember that an Islamist is an Islamist first and foremost. Their vocation is simply a means to the end.
You would have assumed that CNN's Dr. Sanjay Gutpa would have alerted them to the hoax, but I guess he is too busy signing autographs and getting a publisher for his future book all lined up.

January 14, 2009 - 15:30 ET by daver1Lets see, where to wade through all this muck.
1. Cnn withdraws video
False.
The video is still at CNN:
http://edition.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/meast/01/09/gaza.video.accusations/index.html#cnnSTCVideo
CNN) — There’s no truth to accusations by bloggers that a Palestinian camera crew staged a video showing the death of the videographer’s brother after an Israeli rocket attack, said the team’s employer.
In the video, camerman Ashraf Mashharawi is seen holding his brother.
“It’s absolute nonsense,” Paul Martin, co-owner of World News and Features, said of accusations leveled by bloggers at videographer Ashraf Mashharawi.
All you newsbusters just got Busted on that one.
2. Bloggers Utd, well-known international medical experts, think a doctor can't even fake a medical procedure? Why, I guess that would imply that he's not...not even...a real doctor? Because a real doctor would know what the procedure looks like...Honestly, don't you agree? Its funny, because he's got some pretty advanced medical credentials:
"He is a specialist in anesthesiology and a leader of the Emergency medicine department of University Hospital of North Norway, and has been a professor of Emergency medicine at the University of Tromsø since 1995.
Gilbert has broad range international experiences, in particular from locations that merge medical and political issues. Actively involved with solidarity work concerning Palestinians since the 1970s, he has served as a doctor during numerous periods in Palestine and Lebanon. His efforts have been central to the efforts that have lead the city of Tromsø, since 2001 a twin town of Gaza, to claim to be the city that has sent more health workers to Palestine than any other the world.[2]
[edit] Medical record
Following an accident in January 2000 a woman was trapped for more than an hour in icy waters, head under water, and was pronounced clinically dead, but survived after the efforts of Gilbert and his team.[3] This represented the lowest survived body temperature recorded.
Wiki."
I bet he knows how to both carry out and fake the procedure much better than anyone on this forum (except for Kimberly of course, who once had a ½ hour CPR course or whatever she had). Don't you?
Probably the truth is this guy actually had his brother killed, only to be scorned as lying about the death by bloggers. In the hospital the doctor was at, during the events occuring when he was there, obvious, easy to understand logic tells you that he was surrounded by any amount of tragedies that could be used for propaganda, without steeping to fake deaths so badly that he could hardly have even been a doctor.
Can you imagine burying your brother and then being internationally mocked for the death the next day? Reminds me of the scorn and bullying directed towards Michael J Fox for his Parkinsons, interestingly by the same political wing…
Its clear he has lefty sympathies, and its clear he sees the Pals as the main victims, but all this BS about you bloggers revealing his medical ineptitude, that he needed to fake anything when he was obviously up to his shoulders in blood, death and tragedy as any doctor in that situation would be, no matter what political affiliation he has, is just wholly implausible. As implausible as the "evidence" collected that proves Bush was behind 911.

That CORPSE looked awefully health in that the skin was ruddy (inconsistant with a victims who required repeated even badly performed CPR Chest compressions.)
Also, the photo of the impact area on the rooftop of the supposed impact area of the hellfire missile that supposedly claimed the life of the victim showed no blood spatter, and the hellfire would have down significantly more damage to the body that a single wound IF he had been present of the rooftop as claimed by the Pali's.

1. In the main hospital of an urban warzone thats suffered hundreds of dead and thousands of wounded in just a few days, they can't find a dead body to use. Maybe this doctor thinks dead bodies are too icky to touch?
2. A doctor of quite clearly fairly advanced and of decidedly war and trauma well-seasoned credentials can't perform a simple procedure that my masseuse could do. Not for a second does it strike the doctor or anyone else that they're faking simple medical procedure so badly that it will easily be revealed by tom, dick and harry all over the blogging world, nor does he suspect for a second that any trained medical eye will see ever this international war-time hoax.

Bozell's stance on morality has been questioned. Commentator Paul Waldman writes that he was confronted by Bozell after an appearance with him on The O'Reilly Factor, profanely attacking his commentary on the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth.[42]
Bozell has also been criticized as a "blatant follower of Joe McCarthy" with zero understanding of the vagaries of free speech.

Regarding the Swift Boat Vets for the truth, was it not their right to free Speech that YOUR side of the aisle was attacking. 256 former Swift Boat veterans mostly said nothing more than their belief that their former comrade was not worthy of command and suddenly they were being sued.
By the way, what was Joe McCarthy's view on free speecha gain? I remember him as the guy who pointed out that the State Department was riddled with Commies - a claim later found to be accurate by historical events.

Dr. Awni al-Jaru, 37, a surgeon at the hospital, rushed in from his home here, dressed in his scrubs. But he came not to work. His head was bleeding, and his daughter’s jaw was broken.
He said Hamas militants next to his apartment building had fired mortar and rocket rounds. Israel fired back with force, and his apartment was hit. His wife, Albina, originally from Ukraine, and his 1-year-old son were killed.
“My son has been turned into pieces,” he cried. “My wife was cut in half. I had to leave her body at home.” Because Albina was a foreigner, she could have left Gaza with her children. But, Dr. Jaru lamented, she would not leave him behind.
A car arrived with more patients. One was a 21-year-old man with shrapnel in his left leg who demanded quick treatment. He turned out to be a militant with Islamic Jihad. He was smiling a big smile.
“Hurry, I must get back so I can keep fighting,” he told the doctors.
He was told that there were more serious cases than his, that he needed to wait. But he insisted. “We are fighting the Israelis,” he said. “When we fire we run, but they hit back so fast. We run into the houses to get away.” He continued smiling.
“Why are you so happy?” this reporter asked. “Look around you.”
A girl who looked about 18 screamed as a surgeon removed shrapnel from her leg. An elderly man was soaked in blood. A baby a few weeks old and slightly wounded looked around helplessly. A man lay with parts of his brain coming out. His family wailed at his side.
“Don’t you see that these people are hurting?” the militant was asked.
“But I am from the people, too,” he said, his smile incandescent. “They lost their loved ones as martyrs. They should be happy. I want to be a martyr, too.”

Hamas leadership is hiding in bunkers they built underneath hospitals. Yesterday, one of their rockets hit a kindergarten in southern Israel. Second kindergarten they've hit recently. own words
March 23, 2009 - 10:22 ET by BjörnOttarWell, the video clearly refutes the majority of the accusations that have been made towards this video. For example the key argument is that the CPR on the original tape is "unconvincing". (I agree, but I am not an expert). To the conspiracy theorists in the blog sphere, this means that the child is not dead and that they are all acting etc. They assume what fits with their world-view.
Along comes the extended version where it seems that Gilbert actually agrees that the CPR is puny, and instructs the fat guy to to it properly.
Ok. The question one should ask oneself then is "hmmm, my key evidence was wrong, maybe my theory was wrong all the way?"
Several other allegations are also countered in this tape. What the doctors say is, I guess, that it looks like a fairly authentic scene with a fairly dead child. And given all this, if I were you, I would turn the focus to the mental processes that led me down this path of allegations and speculations in the first place, rather than sticking with the theory just arguing more desperately that "I am sure it's a fake, as long as no one proves it's not, and if someone does he is an antisemite". (check comments below for the inspiration for this)
Cheers!

Oh do stop with the Arab apologists you Arab apologist.
March 23, 2009 - 10:36 ET by JWFIt was bullshit arab propaganda coming from an Arab propagandist colluding with Arab propagandist doctors.
The child was NOT killed by an Isreali missile on that rooftop.
You know what, I am not going to repeat myself. You are a coward for not refuting what I said below.
Coward. Arab apologist.

Hi Mr Veteran
March 24, 2009 - 09:59 ET by BjörnOttarYou are quite funny when you are angry. But name calling is not a very polite thing to do, even though you are some kind of veteran of something.
To be honest: I am in no position to judge from the footage whether the child was killed on the rooftop. The main allegations of fake was based on the CPR and lack of intubation of the child. This was refuted by the CNN, and I suppose no sane individual will claim that the extra footage is staged afterwards to reply to the allegations or that the doctors hired by CNN to comment on the autencity of the hospital scene are actors or whatever. So what I think we can be fairly certain of is that the hospital scene is quite genuine. Do you agree? And given that there are a few houndred documented dead children in Gaza (by Israeli numbers as well), I have a hard time to comprehend why they would need someone to act dead.
Regarding the rooftop scene, I haven't got any opinion as to whether it is genuine, but I am kind of baffeled by your devotion to the idea that it is not. But again, given that a number of children were killed and that a number of buildings were actually hit, I can't really see why they would film some random roof if they were looking for a good scene.
As for your details about the wounds: Isn't is so that small shrapnel fragments on the right place can kill a man without creating much blood? But here you are obviously the expert, so I won't go into details more than that. (not because I am a coward, but because I respect your expertise).
Just a question: Do you still think the hospital scene was faked, or are you just angry that it wasn't?

March 25, 2009 - 04:27 ET by BjörnOttarYou are not finished with me, honey.
First: To "blah bla blah Arab apologist?" "blah bla blah love arab so much" etc. Why? This is a website dedicated to analysis of news, isn't it? I have tried to stick to the fact that the "analysis" of the ER scene has been sucessfully countered by new information made available by CNN. This has lead to a load of inane ad hominem (look that up mr English-is-my-first-language-boy) insults, from you and others here. For Christ's sake, calling someone an otter didn't even work in first grade! We could of course discuss Hamas and IDF, but I suspect it would be pretty boring, and that is not what I have discussed here.
Second: To read all your posts in this tread is not a matter of knowing the language, but rather to have the patience to read line upon line of repetitive ranting.
Third: If you thought that you could reply to the remarks I made in my last post, you would. Your dismissal of me is just because you chicken out.

... stupid conspiracy theories for stupid bloggers.
Further, the cnn video knocked over the weakest of the arguments. Not the strongest, namely, that an Israeli missile killed the boy on the roof. This is what the propaganda was all about after all - Israel deliberately killing small children. The propaganda video was not about whether doctors in the Gaza script know how to properly conduct CPR. IT WAS PROPAGANDA TO TURN WORLD OPINION AGAINST ISRAEL.
inane ad hominem (look that up mr English-is-my-first-language-boy) insults

So the lying liar says he did not lie...
February 26, 2009 - 02:39 ET by JWFCNN goes to the root of the story and asks the liar if he lied. The liar says no. CNN is happy!
CNN proves beyond a doubt that there was a dead child. But the 2 doctors it enlists to help cannot say what killed the child.
CNN absolutely FAILS to prove -
What killed the child? When was the child killed? Where was the child killed?
CNN fails to refute the more serious charges -
Where was the blood? Missiles cause massive damage to human bodies. Yet there was almost no blood on the child or the hospital sheets. And there was open unbandaged wounds on the child.
Where was the damage to the roof of the building? Missiles cause massive damage to building type structures.
This child was killed at some other place, at some other time, by some other means. A palestinian propagandist then falsely links the childs death to an Israeli missile that supposedly struck a roof that shows no evidence of a missile actually striking said roof.
Bjornotter loves yummy arab propaganda and so does CNN.
