What if I told you that sheriffs and prosecutors in, say, Indiana, had formed "truth squads" and "subtly" threatened prosecutions of critics of John McCain?
Does anyone think that the New York Times, Washington Post and Old Media in general wouldn't be putting the news on the front page, even with the bailout-apalooza going on in Washington?
Well, there is a "truth squad." It's in Missouri. It includes prosecutors and sheriffs. Oh, and they have formed their truth squad to threaten and intimidate the critics of ..... Barack Obama.
Here is a transcript of a report from station KMOW in St. Louis (first 1:45 of vid; HT Gateway Pundit) that may leave you wondering whatever happened to the country we once knew:
News Anchor, first name Russell: Senator Barack Obama's presidential campaign has asking Missouri law enforcement to target anyone who lies or runs a misleading television ad during the presidential campaign.
News 4's John Mills is live at the County Election Board in Maplewood. He's been learning more about which members of law enforcement are getting involved in this. John, tell us more about this.
John Mills, reporter: Russell, good evening. Prosecutors and sheriffs from across Missouri are joining something called the "Barack Obama Truth Squad." Two high-profile prosecutors are part of the team. We met them this afternoon in the Central West this afternoon. They are Jennifer Joyce of the city (and) Bob McCulloch, the St. Louis County prosecuting attorney. They will be reminding voters that Barack Obama is a Christian, who wants to cut taxes for anyone making less than $250,000 a year. They also say they plan to respond immediately to any ads and statements that might violate Missouri ethics laws.
Jennifer Joyce: We want to keep this campaign focused on issues. We don't want people to get distracted, and Missourians don't want to be distracted, by these divisive character attacks. So we're here to respond to any character attacks, to set the record straight.
Bob McCulloch: Whether it is directly attributable to the campaign, or to one of the soft-money operations, if they're not going to tell the truth, then somebody's got to step up and say "Wait a minute, that's not true. This is the truth."
Mills: Now the Obama campaign tells News 4 that others, prosecutors and sheriffs, are also part of the team, including some from the Kansas City area, and from rural parts of Missouri. We're also told the truth squad is expected to include Jefferson County Sheriff Glenn Boyle. Live in Maplewood John Mills, News 4.
Old Media has now had plenty of time to catch up to this story and, as unfortunately expected, is clearly ignoring it. Specifics:
- A New York Times search on "Obama Missouri" (not in quotes) has nothing relating to the truth squad.
- The Washington Post, with the same search -- Nothing.
- A Google News search between September 24-29, on [Obama "truth squad" Missouri] (typed as indicated between brackets) returned 24 results shortly after midnight (the first page indicates 59, but it is incorrect). None of the roughly 20 truly relevant results are from Old Media outlets.
- The Associated Press? Of course not (search is on "Missouri Obama Truth Squad).
News 4 reporter Mills has more recently tried to back away from his original report:
“If they think a group has put out a misleading ad, they’re basically going to call a press conference and say the ad is misleading," reporter John Mills told the News-Leader on Sunday. "I’m sure the Republicans would do the same thing."
In his TV report, Mills said the prosecutors "also say that they plan to respond immediately to any ads and statements that might violate violate Missouri ethics laws."
..... In Mills' Sept. 23 report, there is no mention by St. Louis County Attorney Bob McCulloch and St. Louis City Attorney Jennifer Joyce that they would invoke their prosecutorial powers to stop any perceived mistruths from being spread about the Democratic presidential candidate.
Horse manure.
These people are prosecutors.
How do prosecutors "respond" to actions they feel violate the law? They prosecute. Most reasonable viewers would have concluded that they were planning to act against "offenders" in their official capacities.
This backoff by Mills is baloney. The original plan, from the Obama campaign, comes from people who simply didn't realize how ugly what they were saying, planning, and probably still doing, sounds -- and is.

You see, the courts have longed since ruled that candidates for office are subject to more scrutiny, some of it not always so accurate, and unless there is some outright slander and libel, such as a candidate actually did sleep with his daughter, verbatim, then candidates have to grin and bear it.

But "divisive" has been popping up in numerous areas of public debate (particularly from Obama's campaign as well as many of his supporters), and I couldn't help but notice how highly functional of a word it is for them to use-
-"United we stand, divided we fall." If an act or comment from an Obama critic is considered divisive, then it's apparent that said critic is not interested in seeing the nation "stand," or prosper. It allows an impressionable voter to think, "You ought to vote for Obama because hey, it's not like you're doing the nation any favors by voting against him."
-But unity and division mean different things in different contexts. There are areas of life where it is good for people to be united, and there are also areas of life where unity is bad or unhealthy. The unity expressed on and immediately after 9/11 was positive, but unity between congress critters in support of a bailout bill (just for example) that will be costing taxpayers at least $700 billion may not be such a good thing.
-Applied more loosely, the word "divisive" does not have such a bad meaning. The division caused by disagreement between two or more parties is not a bad thing. So when Obama supporters say things like "That's such divisive campaigning," or, "We need a uniter, not a divider," I tend to disregard them. Or, to borrow a line from some guy on an old sit-com, I flush them "'round the bowl and down the hole."

Laundering payments to ACORN through a front company, in a conspiracy to defraud the FEC is a crime.
Another glaring oddity is Stage, Lighting and Sound (SLS) %u2013 also a service never previously reported as a CSI offering. Obama made two payments for SLS to CSI within two days of each other. These payments were the largest checks made for "concerts" throughout the entire campaign calendar. CSI received $310,000 followed by $160,000 two days later. Two days after that, CSI got a $98,000 check for Travel/Lodging. Two weeks after that another $74,000 was paid to CSI for SLS. Two weeks later, $18,000 for Polling was reported, followed by another $18,000 for SLS the following day.
All of the above payments went to a company that admits they provide none of the above services.
There are numerous federal offenses that may have been committed by the Obama campaign.
A complaint to the FEC is being prepared and could be filed soon.

Municipal clerks across the state are reporting fraudulent voter registration applications, most of them from a nationwide community activist group.
The majority of the problem applications are coming from the group ACORN, Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, which has a large voter registration program.
ACORN''s Michigan branch, based in Detroit, has enrolled 200,000 voters statewide in recent months, mostly with the use of paid, part-time employees.

Recently, ACORN''s voter registration programs have come under investigation with some employees convicted of voter fraud.
In Pontiac, where several thousand applications have been submitted by ACORN in the last few weeks for the November election, the clerk''s office is finding that numerous applications are sometimes filed under one name. "They''re steadily coming in, and we are finding a huge number of duplications.
In Oak Park, clerk Sandra Gadd said they have been seeing "lots of duplication" from ACORN in recent months.
ACORN is the nation''s largest community organization for low-income families.
Lagstein said ACORN''s Detroit office has hired dozens of employees for the voter registration program.

They will have a legal battle on their hands and I guarantee they will lose their jobs for it and I guarantee they will lose lots of money for their actions. Obama and the Liberals are so scared of losing they are trying intimidation now to shut people up.
