Late this afternoon, AP Special Correspondent David Espo cobbled together one of the most incoherent "comparisons" of two totally unrelated events I have ever seen.
In a piece that should be called "AP Writer's Bush Derangement Syndrome Meets Up with His Palin Derangment Syndrome; Hilarity Ensues," Espo attempts to paint current GOP tactics being employed to defend Sarah Palin in the Walt Monegan firing case with those Bush-Cheney used to ensure that the Florida results in the 2000 presidential election didn't get hijacked by Democratic Party efforts to selectively recount only certain counties and to exclude legitimate overseas military ballots.
Of course, that's not how Espo sees it (saved here at my web host in case the report changes or goes away), as you'll see in the beginning of his report:
Palin probe has parallels to 2000 recount fight
This time, there are no hanging chads.
Yet the Republicans' drive to derail an abuse of power investigation against Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, the GOP vice presidential candidate, reflects the same determination and many of the same methods employed in shutting down the 2000 presidential recount in Florida.
Now, as then, the playbook includes lawsuits, the exercise of power by sympathetic state officials, and appeals to the court of public opinion - all in an operation directed by out-of-state Republicans.
Not only are there no hanging chads, David, there are no similarities worth citing. The only "parallels" are these:
- The two events involve US states.
- They both pit Democrats against Republicans.
Along the way, Espo does what the media has consistently done in virtually every reference to the 2000 election:
- Writing as if the GOP stopped the recount; no, the Supreme Court did.
- Conveniently forgetting that media recounters in 2001 concluded that the result wouldn't have changed, even if the recounts the Democrats wanted would have taken place.
- Ignoring the wholesale attempts at disqualifying overseas military ballots.
Readers who endure Espo's piece in its entirety will find much more material to dispute and refute.
Espo's Alaska 2008 reporting isn't any better.
He writes that "Republican lawyers, researchers and public relations specialists have been dispatched to Alaska," and doesn't mention that the Democrats did the same thing. He even claims that "Democrats have appeared slow off the mark, unwilling or unable to dispatch their own crew to Alaska to counter the Republicans." That's baloney.
Of course, Dems and their co-operatives in traditional media aren't just working on "Troopergate." They're also stirring up rumors, half-truths, and untruths about Palin at breakneck speed -- so far totalling 84, according to Charles Martin, who has taken on the unenviable task of monitoring them. Update: Make that 89, and #89 is a doozy that I hope will get its own post shortly.
Espo's piece looks to be a thinly-veiled excuse to vent his spleen over what happened in 2000, something he clearly can't get over, and to begin yet another fantasy-based victimization saga with even less substantive support. One fears for what remains of the guy's mental well-being if the McCain-Palin ticket wins in November.

Longer
September 19, 2008 - 22:58 ET by MES41067Well that took longer than I thought it would I'm sure theres more to come.
Miss Perky at CBS was doing
September 19, 2008 - 23:50 ET by Kenny BunkportMiss Perky at CBS was doing her best to make another Valerie Plame story out of "Troopergate". A big mention of how Sarah Palin and her husband are "not cooperating" with the investigation. Shades of the the Carl Rove-Dick Cheney smears. The MSM learns well from their successful "guilt by insinuation" tactics.
Maybe I nodded off during the newscast, but I didn't see anything about the son of a Democrat Tennessee Representative being the prime suspect in the felonious hacking of Sarah Palin's email account. Only so much time to present the news, so I guess they had to cut something.
A gun in your hand beats a cop on the phone.
Palin and her husband
September 20, 2008 - 00:42 ET by mastersofdeceitDoesn't surprise me, Todd is going to get dragged around also.
Why, haven't you read at CNN today: Todd Palin:'first dude or 'shadow governor?' BOO! Shadow Governor!
LMAO, actually thanks CNN I think Shadow Governor sounds cool, me being an longtime comic fan of characters like The Shadow, Doc Savage, dad's Mickey Spillane novels etc., Roger Moore as The Saint I use to watch as a kid. Stuff like that.
Hell I hope Todd Palin is a Shadow Governor. Mmmmwwaahhhaahaa!!!
Indicted son of a Tennessee congressman......
September 20, 2008 - 00:51 ET by riff_raffKennyB,
When you say "son of a Democrat Tennessee" congressman "being the prime suspect" in a felony, do you mean Al Gore Jr. or Harold Ford Jr.
I'd like some clarification please.
Oh and Kenny I'm curious,
September 20, 2008 - 00:56 ET by mastersofdeceitOh and Kenny I'm curious, did CBS give any time tonight to the OJ trial?
Mr. Blumer, you mean like linking Obama's bisexuality with Biden
September 19, 2008 - 23:27 ET by Lame CherryI think I can play AP writer Espo's game Mr. Blumer, how about this linkage.
Lawrence Sinclair meets Barack Obama and has sex with him and does coke.
Sinclair appears in public and Obama has David Axelrod hire a bogus lie detector manager and a porn site to taint Sinclair.
Sinclair doesn't go away and as he appears at the National Press Club, a false indictment appears out of Beau Biden in Delaware for the arrest of Sinclair where they literally torture him worse in DC captivity than Abu Gharib prisoners were. (They denied a person with a brain tumor and has nerve damage his medications for 4 days, "lost" him in custody for 4 days and refused him phone access.)
Beau Biden's DAG then threatens to imprison Sinclair for life on a misdemeanor, which all charges are later dropped as it is revealed that the Sinclair case is coming up in conversation in Denver at the convention.
Oh and did the link mention that Beau Biden is the son of Joe Biden who just so happens to get the Vice Presidential nomination after he abuses, harasses and terrorizes an innocent American along with numbers of Obama supporters.
More links, gee Lawrence Sinclair has had his personal information hacked just like Gov. Palin's privacy has been ravaged by the same Plouffe, Axelrod thug machine.
and guess what? With death threats against Mr. Sinclair and his mother to all of the internet hacking, the FBI refused to do one thing.........sort of like the investigation of the hack who got into Gov. Palin's email.
All these Democrats breaking major federal felony laws, even against the GOP Vice Presidential candidate and the FBI just doesn't seem to be able to arrest anyone.
I love the FBI, but they have either been compromised by being afraid of arresting Democrats because of Pelosi and Reid hauling them before Congress or they are now a bastardized wing of the Democratic party.
Donald Young, a gay choir director at Mr. Obama's church in Chicago was murdered. Mr. Young knew Mr. Obama intimately and yet Chicago PD has not made one arrest. Now considering the importance of Mr. Obama why on earth is the FBI not taking over this case as they are mandated to do in order to protect Mr. Obama?
The Young murderer is still at large and the Daley Chicago PD is sitting on this case. Now if this was John McCain in Arizona having an intimate gay friend murdered, the press would be all over this. Pelosi would be screaming for an FBI investigation.
If Sen. McCains son in the military had caused a gay man in Lawrence Sinclair to be handcuffed and tortured in captivity on false charges, would not the press and Barney Frank be screaming for John McCain's head?
Yet not one word in what Joe Biden and Barack Obama did to Lawrence Sinclair and others.
You see, I'm one of the others, a typical John Wayne American who had a Nigerian at Microsoft use Microsoft's facilities to phish my information. I had some of Obama's people at Yahoo censor my emails and track me destroying files I mailed on Obama stories. I have often enough my Google blog what would be termed keylogged and signed out of to know Obama's people are stalking me there too.
There are allot of examples, but I will not post them here as I will not reveal all I know.
Espo will never print the Truth at AP, but when is there going to be a big enough din for George W. Bush to start upholding the Constitution in protecting US citizens from the Obama jihad?
God bless

Sinclair I have seen bubbling under ....
September 20, 2008 - 07:49 ET by Tom Blumer.... and have wondered if there is anything to it. Still do.
Young I was not aware of.
Links and/or other info would be welcome in private e-mail. My ability to respond or follow up is very limited, though.

What did you expect from this guy?
September 20, 2008 - 00:42 ET by riff_raffDavid Espo's title at the AP is "Special Correspondent". I would interpret that to mean he took mostly "special ed." courses in journalism school. As a student/athlete he competed in the "Special Olympics". And in the spirit of diversity, the AP hired him on as a "Special Correspondent". He's also doing his part to combat global warming by taking the short bus to work every day.
A shining example of how much more intellectually superior the liberal elites are than the typical slack-jawed hayseeds on the right, eh? Espo writes his propoganda piece complaining about the state affairs in Alaska while never leaving the security of the DC beltway. But I guess that's the real beauty about places like Alaska. Pencil-necked libs like Espo are afraid to go there.
Entitlement
September 20, 2008 - 12:07 ET by nkviking75There's one more similarity between this election and 2000's. The Democrat candidates each thought they were entitled to the Presidency and would play as dirty as possible to get it.
