ABC Picks Up Immigrant Sitcom Called 'Totally Illegal' -- But The Alien Is Canadian

Deadline Hollywood reports ABC Studios has picked up a new sitcom project called “Totally Illegal” from “Two And A Half Men” co-creator Lee Aronsohn. The illegal alien is Canadian, while the longtime citizens are Mexican-American.

Totally Illegal takes a different spin on the idea of assimilation and immigration experiences in the framework of a family show. It is based on the real-life exploits of producer Kelly Slattery (Breaking Wind), who arrived in the U.S. from rural Canada as an illegal alien and was taken in by a Mexican American family who had been U.S. citizens for many generations. Aronsohn will write the script for the project, which he will co-create with Slattery.

"Breaking Wind" is a satire of the "Twilight" movies.

Aronsohn co-created “Two And A Half Men” with Chuck Lorre and served as co-showrunner of the raunchy CBS comedy for the first nine seasons. In one of those confusing production scenarios, while “Totally Illegal” is being produced by ABC, it has a “first look” deal with Fox. As a young script writer, Aronsohn created the character of Captain Stubing's illegitimate daughter Vicki on "The Love Boat."
