Unlike the 2,000-Death Count in Iraq, ABC, NBC, PBS, MSNBC Skip 2,000 Marker in Afghanistan
On June 13, the CBS Evening News devoted a story by David Martin to the Afghanistan death count reaching 2,000, as Martin interviewed a mother of a fallen Marine. CBS was alone. There was no story last week on the Afghanistan death “milestone” on ABC, NBC, the PBS NewsHour – or even on the MSNBC programs found in Nexis, including Rachel “Our Military’s In a Perilous Drift” Maddow.
But the networks were all more aggressive when the 2,000 mark arrived in Iraq on October 25, 2005. The Big Three networks devoted 14 morning and evening news stories to the death toll from October 24 through the end of October, and another 24 anchor briefs or mentions. They used the number to spell “disaster for this White House.”
CBS offered five reports and ten additional briefs or mentions of the 2,000 figure. David Martin filed a sad story on the 2,000 mark in both wars, the only sign of consistency among the networks. (The 2012 Martin report aired in the last five minutes of the program and never included the word "Obama.") As Brent Baker reported in 2005:
An overwhelming 79 percent of Iraqis, who risked their lives just over a week ago to cast their ballot, voted in favor of the nation's new constitution, but you'd have missed it if you sneezed during Tuesday's CBS Evening News or ABC's World News Tonight.
CBS anchor Bob Schieffer delivered only this single sentence -- "Iraq's government announced today that voters did approve the country's new constitution in this month's referendum" -- before moving on to a full story about the 2,000th death of U.S. servicemen in Iraq, a piece he could not resist introducing without adding this snide aside: "More than 90 percent of the 2,000 who died in the war have died since the President declared major combat was at an end in May 2003."
Days later, in a special report on Samuel Alito’s nomination to the Supreme Court, CBS reporter Bill Plante exemplified the hell-for-Bush tone that was standard operating procedure:
They've been working on this, trying to figure out how to get past the events of the last couple of months which have been really a disaster for this White House. The Hurricane Katrina failure, the failure of the Miers nomination, the landmark of the 2,000th US casualty in Iraq. All of these things have taken a toll, weighted this place down. There's a sense that nothing is happening, that the president is going nowhere.
ABC offered nothing to darken Obama’s day, but reported five stories and eight other briefs or mentions on the 2,000 count in Iraq. That’s not counting an entire edition of Nightline on October 25, 2005. Good Morning America anchor Diane Sawyer began on October 26: “This morning, a somber milestone. Another American dies in the war in Iraq. We have now lost 2,000 sons and daughters.”
Ted Koppel blasted Bush in this October 27 Nightline summation:
If you're inclined to get all the bad news in your life out of the way at the same time, consider this week in the life of President Bush. His brother, Jeb, the governor of Florida, had to concede the state government didn't do all it could have or should have done to prepare for Hurricane Wilma. That can only remind people that this has been a bad hurricane season all-around, when it comes to government response. This was the week, of course, that the death toll of American servicemen and women in Iraq topped 2,000. Statistical markers like that are never a fair way of judging the legitimacy of a war but they seem to have an impact, nevertheless.
They have an impact – unless you just skip them completely when the Democrats are in the White House.
NBC reported nothing on the Afghanistan body count, but four stories and six other mentions of Iraq. On October 24, 2005, Today co-host Katie Couric looked ahead to the grim number:
All right, as if the White House didn't have enough trouble right now, Iraq is still looming. The two--it's going to be 2,000th--we're going to get up to the 2000th death of US servicemen and women in Iraq very soon. I think we're four away from that. Meanwhile, Brent Scowcroft gave some scathing criticism of the Bush administration in this week's New Yorker.
On the October 26 Nightly News, Brian Williams wanted to make sure the number was more depressing than it might seem: “We should quickly point out the number of Iraqis who have died since the US invasion is, of course, far higher than the 2,000 American death toll. The Associated Press is tonight quoting one source who says as many as 30,000 Iraqis may have died. Others say it is still higher.”
Days later, on the October 30 Nightly News, David Gregory was still spelling doom: “Criminal charges, a failed nomination to the Supreme Court and a grim milestone in Iraq, 2000 US soldiers killed in action. Perhaps the worst political week of the Bush presidency.”
PBS: On the NewsHour, Jim Lehrer announced: “U.S. deaths in Iraq passed the 2,000 mark today. The military announced two U.S. Marines were killed last week, and a soldier died of his wounds. That made a total of 2,000 Americans killed since the war began, according to the Associated Press. Figures from the Pentagon showed more than 15,000 have been wounded.”
Lehrer then broke down the numbers further in a segment with Tobias Naegele of the Military Times Media Group. Two days later, Mark Shields underlined: “We just passed 2,000 killed in Iraq this week, 90 percent killed of them have been killed since the president announced mission accomplished.”
But PBS offered no such story from Afghanistan.

...it's always a "Narrow Margin" of victory, like Scott walker's latest smackdown of liberal/socialist/prog Democrats in Wisconsin (by an even *larger* margin on Round Two). But when Saint Obama wins an election by ~8%, it's a "landslide" according to the liberal MSM.
Only two major global-changing ideologies have ever used propaganda, lies, deceit, and threatening tactics in an attempt to control its populate: Communism/Marxism/Stalinism and Nazism. After about the last two decades, there are now three: the liberal MSM. They really started into it during the Reagan years. But you have to remember: back then in the 1980s, we had a more informed and intelligent populate than we do now. That's by design naturally as the liberal/socialist/prog Democrats have taken over our public education system with left wing indoctrination ideologies. They are pumping out mindless little left wing drones like iRobots.
Finally, it is no secret that the left in this nation wants to shut down voice of opposition from AM talk radio (which they generally characterize as "hate speech" as if that will shut Rush and Hannity up) to Conservative blogs and websites like this one. Has anyone else ever noted that liberals/Democrats are miserable and angry and shrill even if they have complete control of Washington like they did for the first two years of Obama's rule?

We are all aware that the Mash Media tones down the death toll when a Democrat is in the White House and predictably highlights the death toll when a Republican is president. But where' s the Constitution and just war principles in the equation? Neither side of the make believe partisan devide (Dems. vs. Republicans) mentions the Constitution nor do they quote Jesus' Sermon on the Mount: "Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the children of God."
Our nation was founded on Christian principles by Christian men and women. Those principles have roots in Judaism.OurJudeo Christian beginning has been lost in the partisanship of one upmanship. Which administration can wrack up the biggest death toll and still win the White House type games.
Lyndon Baines Johnson had his hands full with the Vietnam war and the rising death toll was about to cost the Dems the White House. Peace talks were going on between the North and the South Vietnamese and the war could wind down before the November elections costing one party the White House. Nixon the GOP nominee did all he could to wreck the talks so that US servicemen death toll would be his ace in the hole into the White House.
Robert Parry at Consortium.com brings this documentated fact to light. In 1968 Nixon and his allies intervened with the government of South Vietnam to undermine peace negotiations with the North Vietnamese. FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover was aware of this Nixon tactic but this story did not make the 5 o'clock news. The leaks were plugged apparently. Johnson complained to Senate GOP Minority Leader Everett Dirksen that the interference by the Nixon campaign bordered on treason. The peace talks fell apart when the South Vietnamese government in Saigon walked away from peace talks. The results of that tricky dick dirty trick was that the election cost Humprey the election. The Dem lost by half a % point but it was enough to put the war maker Nixon into power.
Jack Kenny writes: "Once in office Nixon was eager to put his hands on documentary evidence of his efforts to sabotage the peace talks and did not find them in the White House. Believing they might be in the Brookings Institution, Nixon's plumbers broke in there in an attempt to lay hold of the documents. They didn't find them, as Johnson apparently took them with him to the ranch and the secret with him to the big ranch in the sky when he died on January 22, 1973."
The rest of the story.

conspiracy fact and conspiracy theory?
Submitted by lrgon on Fri, 06/22/2012 - 1:09pm.
Was Jesus murdered by a conspiracy? The fact that He came into the world to offer Himself as the most supreme sacrifice to atone for our sins does not disqualify the fact that a conspiracy of men plotted to kill him.
Watergate Conspiracy.
What made it a conspiracy?
a) they did it at night unseen using the modus operandi of a burgular.
b) there were more than one burgular which makes a plan to commit a crime a "conspiracy."
c) it is illegal to break into a hotel room without permission of the owner.
d) they didn't send out press releases announcing the breakin.
The naysayers that still defend this illegal "Watergate" activity dismiss it and then when challenged resort to personal attacks. They never refute the evidence. That is a tactic often employed by liberals who never address the facts but use these weak tactics which they get away with only because they have control of the mass media. Why conservatives use them is ...?
The motive was not to learn of McGovern's campaign strategy. The leftwing senator was going to lose and he offered no threat to Nixon's reelection. It is logical to look for another motive.
Humphrey was not McGovern. He was a problem and he showed it when he narrowly lost to Nixon. Jack Kenny writes that the Nixon camp went to the extreme of nixing the peace talks. The war was unpopular and if the peace talks wound the war down too soon Nixon's chances of beating motor mouth Hubert Humphrey would cost Tricky Dck another election! This meant that he would be a three time loser and out of politics for ever, never to be seen nor heard of again. As he was fond of saying: "you won't have me to kick around anymore."
As it turned out the liberals think that opening up relations with Peking was good. This betrayal of non communist Chinese is viewed by liberals as a positive and they have convinced a sizable portion of Republicans that the liberals' plan to keep China in the socialist camp is a good thing. The neocon gatekeepers just spin Nixon's trip as a sort of chess game move to contain the formerly named soviets. What the neo's don't mention is that all communists are alike- they are all Marxist and promote socialism. This silliness that Nixon was a master chess player and his friendliness with Reds in China contained the reds in Russia is the real "kooky" thinking.
Nixon's legacy: EPA, 55 MPH, Wage & Price Controls, Revenue Sharing, OSHA, Put the nation on a total paper currency by removing the last connection of the dollar to precious metal backing. After he did that he proudly uttered: "we are all Keynesians now." The betrayal of the people of China to suffer under communism was aided by his China trip.
Yes compared to his loving it up with reds in China Watergate was chicken stealing but that does not make the crime connected to covering up the break-in a non impeachable offense anymore than Clinton giving away our high tech to China in exchange for campaign contributions made that crime a non impeachable offense!
With Clinton the liberals defended Slick Willy by saying it was only sex. With Nixon the Republicans say it was only a little ol' friendly breakin.
History is - forget it.

You should be more thankful that the currency is not backed by a commodity. One, it is a perfectly good waste of said commodity. Two, it is utterly restrictive. One reason Greece is in the shape that it is in is not only owing to its addiction to Nanny State Socialism - but also to its inability to control its monetary policy.
That "loving it up with reds in China" will eventually lead to the undoing of communism there. It is inevitable. But then, you are a sorry, sorry student of history who will only spout what Ron Paul programs you to spout. So I don't expect you to understand why that is the case.
Good to see you are as antisemitic and bigoted as always - but then, as I contend, you simply hate every single person and thing on this earth that isn't MacArthur or Ron Paul.
The split between the Soviets and the Chinese was a good thing - although I'd argue it was unnecessary for us to do very much then as they don't like each other to begin with, and whenever they get together it is a marriage of convenience. But then, again, you don't understand history and work overtime to not understand history.
Yeah, I'm not big fan of Nixon, either. But you need to understand him in the context of his time. That requires that you grasp history, though - something you cheerfully advertise you are unwilling to do.

LBJ's War
Submitted by Jim in Houston on Fri, 06/22/2012 - 10:53am.
The reason LBJ had his hands full with the Vietnam war was because he was responsible for the escalation of what had been an advisory role into full scale war. I know where of I speak since I was a career military officer at the time and saw first hand the body bags stacked like cord wood waiting to be flown back home. For all his faults, Nixon accelerated the end of the fighting and needless dying. I say needless, because as is the case today, military leaders were not running the show and we had no real intention of winning.

Folks, the cover-up by Holder and the White House continues. Obama is more concerned with his fundraising and golf outings (100 to date) than he is with finding out who was responsible for Agent Terry's death.
My gut instinct tells me that Obama is fully to blame since he is on record as stating that he wanted to make gun ownership "unappealing" to American gun owners. Fast And Furious would (and did) make the average American turn against the 2nd Amendment in his mind.
So what are they hiding? My gut also tells me that somewhere in those documents is an acceptable number of deaths to both Holder and Obama, which they refer to as "collateral damage". Probably 1,000 people on both side of the border. Why that number? Simple, there were over 2,000 AK-47s and they would have been out there for years. We now know that some of those assault weapons have been found in Afghanistan, being used against our own troops!
NBC has spent a total of 30 seconds on the debacle known as Fast And Furious. Please call your Congressman/woman/homosexual and tell them to keep this on the front burner until there is justice for Agent Terry's family.
