Who Taught Rogue American to Shoot 16 Afghan Civilians? Daily Kos Indicts Limbaugh

By Tim Graham | March 12, 2012 | 22:03

A  A
Tim Graham's picture

How rabid are leftists right now to attach anything and everything to Rush Limbaugh? See the Daily Kos with their Sunday night diatribe titled "Did Soldier who Killed 16 in Afghanistan Receive his Diploma from the Rush Limbaugh Show?" No one knows the reasons why this man would shoot innocent civilians, but the Kosmonauts have great imaginations and have already declared Limbaugh is an accessory to mass murder. The author is Constance Hilliard, a professor of African and Middle East History at North Texas University.

Hilliard complained "The Rush Limbaugh Show is being broadcast to troops on bases all over the world.  However, America has too much at stake, to allow this seedy, ugly-spirited man to roll around in the minds of vulnerable young men. These soldiers are thousands of miles from home, getting shot at by an enemy indistinguishable from our Afghan allies, for a war whose rationale nobody even remembers any more. They need something better than an education in anti-Muslim hatred."

'Down in the comments, Hilliard is typically pacifist: “The paradox for our militarist society is this.  If we didn't dehumanize our enemies, then they wouldn't be "enemies."  We would work to understand where they're coming from.  But where would this leave the arms manufacturers??”

Still further down in the comments, she added:

Rush Limbaugh spouting anti-Muslim filth and a crazed gunman killing Afghan men, women and children in their beds are tragically linked.  While I didn't say so in the post  because I did not have empirical proof, I would wager (no actually I'm certain) that this soldier did listen to Limbaugh.  Armed Forces Radio has much good programming.  But given the fact that soldiers are a captive audience, fighting under extreme levels of stress,  Rush Limbaugh is just too unhinged to subject them to involuntarily.  Yes, I said "involuntarily."  Living in cramped quarters with your buddies tuned to the Rush Limbaugh Show, means that his hateful lies are being broadcast to all within listening distance -- and that would mean you too.

While Hillard can protest the ugly-spiritedness of Limbaugh, she also wrote an article headlined "Maybe Helen Thomas Was Right." Helen's rant about the Jews going back to their homeland in Europe was "raw and injudicious," Hillard found, but she was glad Helen said it, since the West condemned the Jews to the Middle East when they should have allowed them to emigrate.

Bush's lynch mob

Submitted by Tim Graham on Mon, 03/12/2012 - 10:07pm.

Another recent blog of Hilliard's was titled "When America Became a Lynch Mob or do SUPERPOWERS Never Have to Say They're Sorry". The subject was Bush's war in Iraq, which was like a lynching:

My question is this. What responsibility do citizens in a democracy have to redress foreign policy mistakes, when the victims number in the hundreds of thousands? Should it matter that the public's initial support for the war in Iraq took on the fervor of a lynch mob, seeking vengeance after 9/11? Of course, we can blame former President George Bush for the invasion of Iraq with good reason. After all, the White House insisted that Saddam Hussein was hiding "weapons of mass destruction." But somehow this all sounds a bit too pat and familiar, because. . .that's how things used to be done in Mississippi.

The lynch mob hangs the nig--- from the highest tree and then goes back to being sheriff, store clerk or housewife. Yes, it may turn out later that the victim had been wronged, but the whole town surged forth, cheering on whomever swung the rope around the tree branch and tied it around the victim's neck. And with the body left dangling from the tree, normal, everyday life returns.

I totally disagree Tim

Submitted by Cappmann1962 on Tue, 03/13/2012 - 8:09am.

We can't, "with good reason", blame Bush for Iraq. And it wasn't just the White House that insisted Saddam had WMDs. The entire congress agreed, as did all the intel agencies and the military. And Saddam DID have them. He used them against Iran and the Kurds on numerous occasions. And why, in 2003 while the UN was dithering about using force, and being roadblocked by France and Germany, were there 100-vehicle convoys traveling between Iraq and Syria on a daily basis? And how hard would it be, in a country covered in featurless desert, to take a GPS 50 miles out and bury weapons where no one could ever find them? What about the stockpiles of chemical artillery shells found (maybe not huge quantities, but there nonetheless)? What about the mobile labs with traces of bio weapons discovered after the invasion?
As for this twit pacifist professor, she seems like a typical Ivory Tower elitist. What the hell does she know about our troops in the field? What does she know of Afghan adult men throwing infants and children onto barbed-wire in order to climb over them for food being distributed by our troops? I would call THAT dehumanizing. What does she know about how our troops feel when Afghan civilians knowingly watch IEDs injure and kill our troops, when they bloody well KNEW where the bomb was and didn't provide any warning? What does she know about how they feel when their Afghan "buddy, who they've been training for months on a daily basis, suddenly turns their weapon on US troops and shoots them in the back? What does she know about how our troops feel when the Afghan populace turns on us at the slightest provocation, totally ignoring the atrocities perpetrated on them by their own Taliban? How about an apology from the Afghans for MURDERING our troops, instead of our Commander in Chief apologizing for a few burnt Q'urans (which, BTW, is the proper way to dispose of their holy book when defaced). I haven't heard one word of protest from these moronic protestors over the defacement itself - BY MUSLIMS, just the burning of the books. Why aren't they screaming for the beheadings of the Taliban prisoners that defamed their holy books against their so-devout religion. She needs to go back to her books in her plush college office and keep her nose (and mouth) out of the real world, as she obviously knows exactly jack $#it about it!

I spent 22 years proudly wearing our nation's uniform, and have been there and done (and seen) that. She knows jack about the people, the troops, or what's really going on in the M.E. Yet her, and those like her, constantly jump up to speak "on behalf of the troops" (who BTW, LOVE listening to Rush). Thanks for pointing it out Rukus.

"The results of recent

Submitted by lrgon on Mon, 03/12/2012 - 10:15pm.

"The results of recent Western military intervention are even worse. George W. Bush's 'splendid little war' against Iraq wrecked that nation, setting off a conflict that killed perhaps 200,000 people, wounding and otherwise traumatizing far more, forcing as many as half of Iraq's Christians from their homes, many to Syria, and empowering Iran." --- Doug Bandow column at The American Spectator

The policy of interventionism embraced by both war parties killed those children and adult villagers. Obama is to blame,Bush, and the other war mongers like McCain, Lindsay Graham and the Sec of State.

While Rush Limbaugh is not personally to blame he, along with Hannity and Levine and Michael Medved, have fueled the rhetoric on the airwaves and bamboozled their listeners into not questioning the unAmerican war policy of war and intervention in the middle east.

Even Newt Gingrich in yesterdays news stories said supporting a quick withdrawal from Afghanistan.

This killing spree may serve as a lesson to what happens to an unarmed populace.

One thing is for certain had Ron Paul been elected in '08 those children would be alive and this blackmark on our military would not have occured.

Did yo ever see what Saddam's "polices' were doing to his own citizens, his own "children and adult villagers?" For example, Saddam's "policies of interventionism" started a with Iran that killed over a MILLION PEOPLE! How many people did Saddam's invasion of Kuwait end up killing? Do you even ask? Never mind the entire villages that Saddam has destroyed, and the tens of thousands of people Saddam had killed, all for the sake of his own enjoyment.

Now, let's examine what the Taliban has done to the Afghanistan people, like torture, murder, rape, and pillaging, something they did for decades while in power, and years now while in hiding, and tell me, how is that OUR fault

But, hay, let's ignore Saddam's 30 plus years of brutality and murderous tyranny, and the Talaban's similar behaivor, for it doesn't fit the rhetoric that US is the Bad Guy for trying to stop it!

Actually Jer, there were two promises made in 2008, one to expand the war in Afghanistan, and one to end the war in Iraq within a year. He expanded the war in Afghanistan, just as promised, but he definitely missed his one year deadline for ending the war in Iraq.

I am willing to cut him some slack on Iraq, though, for one he actually became President, he realized the need to continue our "presence" there as long as necessary. Of course, it was Bush who originally realized just how long it would be necessary, for the "draw down" is occurring according to Bush's schedule, not Obama's. But Obama is following that schedule, as is appropriate. I just wish he'd give Bush a little bit of the credit. Of course, Obama's a politician first and foremost, so that's not going to happen, especially in an election year.

But then again, remember in the words of Jane Fonda and Gloria Steinum recently on CNN.com, the quest to remove Rush Limbaugh from the air is not political.

Obama's to blame

Submitted by redherkey on Mon, 03/12/2012 - 10:43pm.

Hilliard is merely attempting to get ahead of what the left understands will be a serious blame game that pins this event firmly to the failed Presidency of Barack Obama. I've actually been expecting the commentary to begin from the analysts who understand these dynamics better.

Obama was warned that the extremely low troop levels would not only ensure instability within the Afghan communities, but also within U.S. military forces in country. Just as management experts understand that sustained levels of radically low employee staffing, combined with increasing stresses from production levels, cause the conditions for a worker to "go postal," the same conditions were almost certainly brought to the Commander-in-Chief's attention.

But even if he wasn't warned, any competent senior manager would know these risks. Obama rolled the political dice, betting the lives of soldiers and Afghani people in exchange for getting the political lift from an accelerated Afghanistan withdrawal plan. He gambled and lost. Now the blood is on his hands.

This is the story that needs to be followed. We have reports coming out of country as to how extremely stressed and demoralized our troops are in that they're being prevented from doing their jobs. Like Vietnam, bizarre political rules are driving the theater.

Yes. We do have something in common. I do a simple google search and point out the nasty liberal propaganda slurs of trolls. You remember something someone said in passing - I once told a troll I am fat and have gone though rehab. A slandering slurring troll just like you. Why did I say that? Because the troll was slandering and slurring Rush Limbaugh calling him fat and a drug user. So yeah, Rush Limbaugh is fat. And so am I. And I gave the troll a chance to toss the same insults at me. Sadly, the troll declined. But look what other troll took up his mantel.

Yeah troll. We have something in common. I am fat just like Rush Limbaugh. And I talk about the nature and content of your posts. Whereas you turn it personal every time. Whoopies. Looks like we ain't got something in common at all. The only one here you have something in common with is balboa --

Why are we discussing this idiot? Why are we not trying to find out why this Sgt was sent back into combat after a physical and missed the fact that he has brain damage? Is the poor health care of our military due to Obama's cuts? Is it because our soldiers are tired? Is it because he is releasing 150,000 military personnel and the burdens have increased on the front lines?

Someone with more knowledge of our military and combat should be looking into this. Not some idiot race baiter who lives in elitist ideological academia.

How can I prevent premature ejaculation?

I'm 50 years old my spouse gets very fustrated that I can not last more than 2 minutes when lovemaking

Both psychological and biological factors can play a role in premature ejaculation. Although many men feel embarrassed to talk about it, premature ejaculation is a common and treatable condition.

Medications, psychological counseling and sexual techniques that delay ejaculation can improve sex for you and your partner. For many men, a combination of treatments works best.

Miss Hilliard is spouting

Submitted by BD on Tue, 03/13/2012 - 12:45pm.

Miss Hilliard is spouting typical leftist pacifist tripe and nonsense. Her statement of....

“The paradox for our militarist society is this. If we didn't dehumanize our enemies, then they wouldn't be "enemies." We would work to understand where they're coming from. "

... fails on its face because people in my profession spend inordinant amounts of time doing just that. I have probably spent more time studying the goals, aspirations, and desires of various members of AQ than Miss Hilliard has spent in her chosen field studying Africa.

The understanding I have of those particular elements of AQ's psyche do not cause me to be less hostile towards AQ. Far from it, they engneder even greater desires to cause them to assume room temperature as soon as is practicable.

One whose mantra is "To understand all, is to forgive all" has never really understood the black heart of someone like Isnilon Hapilon, Abu Soliaman, or Abu Sabaya. If they did they would be assisting me in loading magazines.....

Submitted by UpNorth on Tue, 03/13/2012 - 9:54am.

The doctor in this article was in charge of the system at Madigan Army Med Center, which is at Joint Base Lewis-McCord.  That's the same base the sergeant is from, the sergeant who had TBI, but was deemed fit for deployment.  I think, if anyone really looks into this, the problem will go far deeper than 14 soldiers.

To re-elect Obama would be like the Titanic backing up and hitting the iceberg again.

Thank you upnorth*

I knew I could depend on you for accurate information. I also have learned that this Sgt was involved in a "roll over" in 2010 and was injured. Yet,since then, he has had two more deployments. Serious incompetence put an American soldier at great risk. Unfortunately, the damage now extends to innocent civilians. This man should not be prosecuted nor persecuted, he is an example of everything wrong with politics interfering with military.

who only post occasionally, Caj.

I think the "roll over" may have been the cause of his TBI.  It's strange that they're digging out his medical history, yet haven't named him.  And, why is the media allowed access to his medical history in the first place?

As far as "prosecuted nor persecuted", the Army has to prosecute him.  The media and the left will see to the persecution.

I saw a news report on the punishments meted out in prior incidents.  The anchorette was in high dudgeon because only one sergeant from Haditha got 3 months, she even failed to mention that SGT Wuterich's punishment was for dereliction of duty, not murder, like Murtha and the left wanted.  Of course, there was no mention at all of the punishments meted out to the "Kill Squad" for their murders.   Just as an aside, the Kill Squad also came from Joint Base Lewis McCord.

To re-elect Obama would be like the Titanic backing up and hitting the iceberg again.

It is strange.

Submitted by The Vet on Tue, 03/13/2012 - 10:46am.

Not to denigrate the effects of accidents and rollovers and the nasty effects on the human body. But most pervasive cases of TBI are from bomb blasts. Where the concussive effect of the blast rapidly moves the brain pan while the soft tissue that is the brain inside is forced into the sides of the skull, possibly bouncing back and forth. As there is a cuncussive wave out, and then another one back to fill the vacuum created by the blast.

This piecemeal leak of tiny details is strange. Millions of soldiers, sailors, marines, and  airmen have gone through theaters in the past decade, with 10's of thousands of injuries. This piecemeal leaks of stuff about TBI and number of deployments is kinda creepy. Kinda like going back to the way Vietnam vets were perceived as being damaged by the war. Normal people don't go nuts and start killing civilians no matter how bad they have had it in deployments or with injuries.

I agree. There will be an investigation and we will learn the truth in time.

Vet, yes I agree. I see little link between TBI and mental illness.

I also fear that we will see a return to the Hollywood based perception that returning US soldiers will be out of control psychopaths that we had to suffer through in the 1970-90's.
The evidence completely contradicted the perception in that Vietnam Vets had a lower rate of mental illness than personnel who did not serve, but that was not important when a good fictional story could be told.

And now we are gonna see it come back in spades.

Incredible! This woman actually believes that solders, trained to ignore extraneous stimuli and obey only the commands of their officers, both commissioned and non-commissioned, can actually be influenced by a voice on the radio!

Hay, Lady, as a veteran, I can tell you, with great accuracy, that you may need that tin foil hat to shield you from the mind controlling influence that radio has over you, but our solders do not.

By the way, Lady, outside of a campus lecture hall, there's no such thing as a "captive audience," not when every single solder has their own mp3 player and earphones! The days of a single radio being played in a "GP Medium" tent are long over. They died when the Walkman was invented.

Wasn't it John Kerry that walked into a sporting goods store and asked: "Can I get me a huntin' liscense here?" I blame the haughty one.
