Bozell and Other Leaders Protest Vicious Anti-Catholic Huffington Post Article

By Tim Graham | February 29, 2012 | 09:30

As Fox News is reporting, MRC president Brent Bozell organized a group of socially conservative leaders to demand that Huffington Post publisher Arianna Huffington apologize for allowing a Catholic-bashing, Santorum-bashing column to be published on her website that begins: "Many of you will be shocked to learn what our possible future president believes, who he answers to, the bloody jihads his so-called church has carried on for centuries, and its current role as the tactical arm of the North American Man-Boy Love Association."

Writer Larry Doyle added, "Unlike Christians, Santorum and his fellow Roman Catholics participate in a barbaric ritual dating back two millennia, a 'mass' in which a black-robed cleric casts a spell over some bread and wine, transfiguring it into the actual living flesh and blood of their Christ. Followers then line up to eat the Jesus meat and drink his holy blood in a cannibalistic reverie not often seen outside Cinemax." Bozell and the others replied:

When you started the Huffington Post in 2005, you opened your new Internet venture with a pledge, as quoted by Newsweek: “If you’re looking for the usual flame-throwing, name-calling, and simplistic attack dog rhetoric....don’t bother coming to The Huffington Post.” But Larry Doyle’s recent anti-Catholic screed in the Huffington Post, The Jesus-Eating Cult of Rick Santorum, is bigoted and unacceptable, and a perfect example of “flame-throwing, name-calling, and simplistic attack dog rhetoric.” His column should be taken off your site, and you should issue an apology for ever publishing such trash.

As we stated in February of 2011, (“AOL News Has Lost Its Mind' with HuffPo Buyout”), AOL was foolish to buy the Huffpost, presuming that it would be anything less than a “hate-filled, vicious, radically left-wing rag.” Doyle’s column is the latest in a long line of such content.

In answer to online reader outrage over his distasteful column, Doyle responds that it was all a joke. Intelligent readers and the millions of faithful Catholics who come into contact with this piece don’t buy such equivocating nonsense for a minute. Bigots like Doyle think they can hurl the most contemptible insults towards Catholics ("Jesus eaters") and when called out, claim it was just a joke. What cowardice. What a double standard. If such an article was written concerning the Islamic or Jewish faith, the public outcry would be overwhelming, and rightly so. But anti-Catholicism is the last acceptable form of bigotry, and the Huffington Post is taking advantage of that bigotry for all it’s worth.

The Obama administration’s recent mandate forcing religious institutions to provide insurance which violates their most sacred teachings is the outgrowth of a media, including the HuffPost complicit in the persecution of religion. Timothy Cardinal Dolan has called this mandate an unprecedented attack on conscience.

You should be covering such attacks on religion in this country, not fomenting more persecution and bigotry.

The double standard is clear for all to see. Media outlets like the HuffPost are ignoring the attack on the religion, but promoting bigots like Doyle who despise Catholics and others who practice traditional Judeo Christian faiths. That makes you complicit in bigotry.

Withdraw Doyle’s piece from your site and issue an apology to all the millions of faithful Catholics you have deliberately offended in publishing this piece. If you choose not to, then your so called news outlet cannot be seen as anything but an anti-Catholic talking piece.

PS: Doyle's piece concluded with a "humorous" reference to the Kennedy assassination: "Need I remind you that only once in our great history has a Roman Catholic been elected president, and how tragically it ended?" It's not a surprise Rick Santorum is going to get Secret Service protection.

The guttersnipes!

Submitted by lgeubank on Wed, 02/29/2012 - 10:07am.

The guttersnipes on the left will sink to any depths. They're completely immoral, amoral guttersnipes, yet they consider themselves "holier than thou" because they're tax-and-spend redistributionists.

Democrats are a bunch of nauseating, sanctimonious guttersnipes.

Doyle--just joking, huh?

Submitted by Meredith1966 on Wed, 02/29/2012 - 10:37am.

That's the same excuse I get from my 7-year-old when I call him out on something. "I was just joking, Dad!". Yeah, right. Don't hide from yourself, Doyle--you made the comments, be man enough to stand behind them and accept the consequences should there be any. Don't pretend you didn't mean exactly what you wrote. For my part, I won't pretend you're anything other than a hateful, mean-spirited, anti-Catholic bigot. I'd also suggest you take 20 minutes to interview a priest and find out exactly what the Mass is all about, but that would be something akin to open-mindedness and I don't really expect that of you based on this load of liberal tolerance.

Every election cycle the Left goes to deeper and deeper depths to spew their hatred, be it institutional, personal, etc. They hate traditional American values. They hate organized religion (crystal-clad Earth Mothers are OK), they hate principled leaders, they are progressive lunatics whose definition of equality is no personal liberty. No tolerance.

Welcome to the same kind of propaganda that fueled the Holocaust. Casting Catholics as cannibals and sub human as a joke? Don't think so. This jerk is just planting seeds of contempt in the feeble minded people that actually read his column and take it to heart. He is also trying to put a bigger divide between Catholics and other Christian Denominations at a time when we are unified in the fight against the Birth Control Mandate.

This man's article is the snake that bites at our heel but we will crush him underfoot.

I am extremely disheartened,

Submitted by motherbelt on Wed, 02/29/2012 - 11:57am.

I am extremely disheartened, even depressed, by the level of hate against and ridicule of the Catholic Church that is not simply tolerated, but actually accepted in this country.

It's getting so that only the faux-Catholicism of Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden is tolerated.  Catholicism is fine, as long as you only talk the talk, but don't actually walk the walk.  And if you do walk the walk, just don't do it in public.

Pelosi and Biden like the trappings: the Mass, probably other ceremonies, perhaps the music, but when it comes down to it, they are like seed sown on rocky ground that has no depth.

When Catholic teaching is considered "hate speech" as it is in Canada, will Pelosi and Biden stand up for the Church?

Don't count on it.

"I don't know Him #%*#@"!  We don't know whether Peter's remark included an expletive or an oath, but it seemed convenient to him at the time.  But I'm sure, for the rest of his life, he shuddered every time he remembered that moment, even though his Friend, God, and Savior forgave him.

Imagine how much less the fallen-away will consider it a problem to enter the voting booths self-righteously armed with a commitment to separation of Church and state.

I'm afraid exit polling will show too many Christians will leave their faith on the other side of the curtain.

Maryerin, that is just untrue. Comedians mock Jews and the Jewish faith constantly. Ever heard of Larry David? Joan Rivers? Judd Apatow? Mel Brooks? Richard Lewis? Don Rickles? Adam Sandler? Sarah Silverman? John Stewart? Lewis Black? The list of comedians mocking Jews is too long to even list.

Comedians mock Muslims all the time. Ever hear of Jim Jefferies? Kat Williams? Robin Williams? Bill Connolly? Jimmy Carr? Tommy Tiernan? Jeff Dunahm? Russel Peters? Heck, even Bill Maher has some good Muslim material.

Just because you've never heard it, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. The claim that Christianity is singled out and is is some sort of victim is a blatant myth.

Apparently, the RCC 's  practice of Sanctuary has been distorted once again.  Sanctuary is not "aid and abetting".  It is a non political practice of the Church to offer temporary protection to those in danger. It has nothing to do with politics, crime, sin, or any other labels.  It is compassion for those at risk, be it Nazi Germany, mayhem in Somalia, or illegal immigrants on the run in San Diego.  It is not a practice respected by all but it is a practice available to all and has been for 2000 years.

There has been a major influx of Catholic haters here at NB recently.  If you wish to spew your liberal hatred for the bearers of morals and values, please educate yourself first.
