Will GLAAD Scrub Yahoo! Of All 'Anti-LGBT Comments'?

By Tim Graham | February 03, 2012 | 08:03

The Hollywood Reporter publicized that Yahoo! has "teamed up" with the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) to monitor "hateful and violent" comments on their many online platforms. GLAAD reported finding comments violating Yahoo's terms of service under an interview with the gay singer Adam Lambert. (There is presently NO space to comment on Adam Lambert posts here. Or here. Or here. But if you hate Simon Cowell, comment here. There are 1,059 comments.)

Allison Palmer, GLAAD's Director of Digital Initiatives, issued a statement commending Yahoo! for addressing the issue quickly and highlighting its continued pledge to address anti-LGBT comments across all of its platforms. "Young music fans should be able to interact and comment on sites without seeing violent, hateful comments directed at LGBT people," Palmer said. But wait -- does that mean all "anti-LGBT comments" get scrubbed? Or all comments?

There is nothing wrong with taking down comments wishing violence on gay people. Censor away. But would GLAAD also like to take down comments suggesting homosexuality is wrong? Anyone who follows them would strongly suspect that when companies like Yahoo! bow to GLAAD pressure, it's not just about eliminating violent comments, but all "anti-LGBT comments."

Could one suggest song titles like "Naked Love" are too risque for kids? This might even include comments suggesting a performer like Lambert is a screechy, egotistical hack -- in other words, the kind of commentary Simon Cowell gets for canning Paula Abdul.

Bravo, Yahoo!

LGBT people are delicate little flowers, and shouldn't ever have to read something they find "offensive."

No, you can't say Adam Lambert is a screechy hack.  Like criticizing President Obama is always racist because he's black, criticizing gay people is always homophobic.

Censorship of the 99% by the 1%

Submitted by c5then on Fri, 02/03/2012 - 8:48am.

This is the result of the liberal mentality that people must be divided into groups and that the smallest group must get special priviledges over the others to "protect" them from feeling sad about them being in the smallest group.

Isn't it interesting that a giant internet portal like Yahoo! would choose to alter their operations in order to please an incredibly small segment of the population? I wonder if they would agree to implement the exact same policy for Christians that comprise a population that is a number of orders of magnitude larger?

they will scrub the comments. The left HATES free speech.

Is there an alternate engine for email? I have yahoo, and would leave yesterday because of their left slant. google should use the obarry logo for their own. But they all seem to be left. frustrating.

Censorship Maybe...

Submitted by NVRAT on Fri, 02/03/2012 - 9:42am.

I wonder where all of this is going? people are bashing Right Wingers, Left Wingers, Moderates, Conservatives, all Politicians, Church Goers and each other. What makes Gay People so special? that a large Search Engine has got to baby and pamper one very small segment of society. I personally do not use Yahoo very often but, after this article I will make sure that Yahoo is my last option.

The trouble with liberals is

Submitted by RealVet on Fri, 02/03/2012 - 5:27pm.

The trouble with liberals is just that they're not content with the "live & let live" philosophy. They want everyone to think and feel like they do. That's why they're bent on censoring and silencing anyone who doesn't support their agenda.

They just don't get it. They're free to live their "alternative lifestyles". They're free to NOT believe in God or Jesus Christ. They're free to choose infanticide as an alternative to responsibility. They're free to eat what they want and go where they please. Many of them also get to use other people's hard earned money for subsistence.

Under the Constitution, they have the EXACT same rights as anyone else, but they just can't refrain from imposing their philosophy on the rest of the populace. They've infested the education system, the judicial system, the media, organized labor, certain churches, the police, and the government. They're also working on the military.

Liberals are NOT "progressive". Their tactics mirror the Russian revolution. When in power, their conduct closely resembles the German regime of the 1930's. They have no problem with destroying property, interfering with commerce, or infringing upon the rights of others in pursuit of their goals.

It's way past time to fight back.

We must start with...

Submitted by MacWell on Fri, 02/03/2012 - 9:43pm.

Career politicians.
Imho, these parasites from the legal profession found gold in dem dar hills, .ie Congress. The good old boys club has been raking in the dough for too long. It's time they went the way of the buggy whip. We have people we trusted to speak in our stead, that care nothing except their next election, their next pork project, or their next vote trade. Yes, they do trade their votes like baseball cards. How can we trust them when they're ruining America for the next 3 or 4 generations. All of these billions and trillions of dollars they throw around like free chips at a casino. We the people are told to "move on, nothing to see here", or this oldie but goodie, "we have to uh pass the bill to find out what's in it." Now you tell me, does she sound like she's talking to her boss? More like giving the brush-off to an annoying neighbor. The United States Congress, (both houses), have turned a formally august body of debaters into a den of lawyers and thieves. They lie to us, (for our own good), doesn't that make you all warm and fuzzy?, they steal from us, ( these people are allowed to write their own ticket, yet they steal because they can get away with it legally, and they make fools of us daily.
We the people have only one recourse, we must vote out as many career politicians as we can for the next 3 or 4 election cycles. Then we must make it a service to work in government, not a right. End the thought of careers and politics in the same sentence.
Congress was never meant to be a career, don't believe me, look it up, it's there. The House of Representatives was meant to be staffed with regular people, shopkeepers and tailors, economists and librarians, iron workers and plumbers, welders and CPA's, How can you be represented by someone who knows nothing about what you do?
Joe the Plumber is running for the state house, or senate, good, we need more Joe the Plumbers.
The founders left us with the proper way to run our Congress, citizen government. We must come out in droves in November and kick all of their sorry butts out of office and take America back from the hands of those who wish to "fundamentally transform" America into something else, we still don't quite know what?
If we the people continue to allow the few to dictate to the many, then maybe we don't deserve America.
