Rachel Maddow: Fox Is All About Electing GOP, But MSNBC Has No Political Objective!

By Tim Graham | January 02, 2012 | 00:10

A  A
Tim Graham's picture

In an interview with Slate.com, MSNBC's Rachel Maddow unloaded the bizarre claim that Fox News is "operating with a political objective to elect Republican candidates," but MSNBC doesn't resemble that in any way.

"I think the thing that is underappreciated about MSNBC is that we don't really do anything as a company, that we all sorta get to do our own thing," she claimed. "There may be liberals on TV at MSNBC, but the network is not operating with a political objective."

I think that the new model in cable in news broadcasting is that when you hear a host talk, you are expecting that they are saying exactly what they believe...We are actually saying what we think. We are not playing a role. We are not being fake-objective. We are not being directed in political talking points in any way. That it’s us. That means management has to be hands off with all of us, because in order for you to believe that The Rachel Maddow Show is saying what this person named  Rachel Maddow believes, there can’t be anybody else telling me what to say. So that’s the rule with everybody. Everybody gets to say their own piece.

Slate's Jacob Weisberg unspooled the usual liberal attack line: "There’s no Roger Ailes moving the chess pieces around with the goal of advancing the conservative cause, you know ‘Glenn Beck, you’re good for the cause,’ ‘Nope, you’re not good for the cause any more. You’re out.’ He somehow ignored that MSNBC dumped Keith Olbermann (like Beck left Fox), or that all around Maddow, they've moved the chess pieces of Ed Schultz and Larry O'Donnell.

Maddow played along. "Yeah. That’s exactly right. We are not, we, there may be liberals on TV at MSNBC, but the network is not operating with a political objective. Whereas Fox is operating with a political objective to elect Republican candidates, and particularly, to elect Republican candidates Roger Ailes likes. I think Roger Ailes is a really good TV executive, but their operation is essentially a political operation to elect Republicans."

Weisberg asked if the network was a propaganda channel and  if liberal journalists should refuse to appear on Fox News and help it out, since it's apparently not real journalism (like Newsweek when Weisberg was there?) Maddow seemed to agree with that boycotting idea.

MADDOW: I don’t think that the Republican Party calls Fox in the morning and tells Fox what to do. I think that Fox essentially starts broadcasting every day and the Republican Party takes their cues from them. I think that Roger Ailes is a Republican political operative, but that the arrows go from him out, not toward him. I can’t imagine him taking direction from anybody. He doesn’t need to. I mean, who’s going to call him? Reince Priebus? [Laughter] Really? Tell Roger Ailes what to do? I don’t think it works that way.

WEISBERG: It’s the other way around.

MADDOW: Yeah. So you have to consider if you’re going to make a decision to help Fox out, to get more people to watch them, and to validate what they do by being there, you have to decide if you want to be part of their project, and their project is to elect Republicans, and to move the Republican Party right on specific issues that Roger Ailes cares about, and Rupert Murdoch cares about.

Roger Ailes is controlling the GOP?

I guess Maddow "forgets" about the meetings MSNBC reporters had with Obama at the White House, or the talking points sent to Mika on Morning Joe.

I don't which is more frightening, that she's outright lying or that believes what she says.

Maddow's statements are beyond absurd...I wonder what color the sky is in her world? If she only knew how ridiculous she sounds when she says bs like this. And along the lines of what you said Rad, I don't know whether she's lying, or that she truly believes what she says...My hunch is the latter is probably the case, and that's truly sad.

Of course she believes, it Sky! Like all lefties, she believes they are all "right" and the Right is wrong.

Like all lefties, she believes they are "non-partisan," as opposed to conservatives, who live on partisanship.

As for MSNBC, they just hire the best people around. it's just "coincidence" that all their hosts do[ing] our own thing are all the same.

I feel like I'm living in the Twilight Zone, because I have watched her show, and she doesn't know what the hell she's talking about. The majority of the time, she's just flat wrong. Watch his program (if you can stomach it) and note how many times he refers to Democrats as "

Add Special Ed Schultz to the coffee-with-the-President club.

Maddow's self-contradictory denials have become a matter of course at MSNBC, and that may partly explain why its audience is the size that it is.

(I believe Zakaria's show is on CNN, not MSNBC, but he'd dovetail nicely in their evening line-up.)

When you look at truth and reality, you notice liberals/Democrats/progressives/whatevers are nowhere to be found. And lately they are rocketing away from them at breakneck speeds. The stuff they say is just lies! As addressed earlier, do they actually believe these things they say? They not only will not criticize sin but actually promote it.
They keep trying to push Fox news as conservative propoganda while ignoring the multitudes of Democrat campaign machines formerly known as news agencies like ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, NPR, NYT, Time, Newsweek, etc., etc., etc. which are constantly documented on sites such as NB.

Maddow Needs A Dose Of Reality

Submitted by Bourbeau on Mon, 01/02/2012 - 8:30am.

Let's give her the cable version of "waterboarding" - tie her to a chair and make her watch one week of
MSNBC programming, non-stop, then give her the political bias quiz. The sad thing in reading something like this is the realization that people like Maddow, have the station to make comments like this without being challenged directly. We wonder why our politicians feel emboldened to ignore the electorate. It's not hard, they realize they can spew whatever nonsense the want to rationalize their stupidity and are rarely challenged. Case in point: look at any presser for Boehner, Pelosi, McConnell or Red on anything. They stand their with their lapdogs behind them, spew their nonsense, and there's barely a question. Huh? This is our goverment and we permit this nonsense, whether it's MSNBC or the Congress; and we deserve what we get.

Rachel, look at your coverage and answer a question: If MSNBC is not partisan, when was the last time you covered the Tea Party, conservative issues, and Republican campaigning in a positive light? When was the last negative coverage you did on President Obama, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, liberals, and Democrats?

Every one of you on that network is a liberal (except Joe Scarborough on rare days). Your pitch is just like that of the rest of your network. When you look at it, your network is so skewed liberal and Democrat that it shows the liar that you are in other subjects as well. You convicted yourself and your network by your own words, Rachel.

Is the Pope Catholic? Are there bears being bears in the woods?

So if I understand Ms. Maddow correctly, Fox is controlled by a conspiratorial elite and they also control the G.O.P. But her network may just have a few liberals in it?

I'll bet she thinks she is in the middle of the road. Therefore, if you are to her left, you are a liberal and not knowing too many to her left, they must be a rare breed. Anybody to the right of her must be a conservative. And conservative means conspiracy so it makes perfect sense; to her.

"Agree with me and I'll let you be. Do Not and I'll hit you with all I've got."

BTW Why does Ms Maddow always look like a man. Is that part of the FOX conspiracy or does she really look like that?

You breed the dogs to be vicious. You condition them to attack fat people. You line them up all in a row and unleash them one by one, night after night. They run amok just like the barbaric savages you've trained them to be... with utter disregard for fairness or decency... but they stay consistent with their conditioning and only maul fat people. YOU don't witness any of it because YOU'VE chosen to look elsewhere (which is exactly what YOUR masters trained YOU to do).

YOU then stay consistent with YOUR training saying "I'm not responsible for the carnage allegedly caused by my pure-bred, impeccably trained attack dogs... they're just doing what dogs do! Is it my fault that they prefer to chew on fat people? Heck, I'll bet fat people taste better! Furthermore, fat people DESERVE to be gnawed more than the rest of us, right? Maybe if they weren't so fat they could run away faster...."

Of course, it could simply depend on what your definition of the word 'not' is....

This sentence kind of says it all, and explains why they're so annoying.

"I think the thing that is under appreciated about MSNBC is that we don't really do anything as a company"

...let's not stoop to the liberal level and resort to mocking Maddow's appearance. If she chooses to look like a man, that is her choice. I just take issue with her repeated idiotic and biased statements.
