NBC 'Playboy Club' Star Lashes Out at Mormons, Catholics on Twitter
NBC’s series The Playboy Club remains in search of an audience, so some stars are lashing out on Twitter at the Parents Television Council, who’s calling for the show to be cancelled, since it promotes one of the world’s leading pornography brands.
David Krumholtz – who many might remember from CBS’s “Numb3rs”– attacked the PTC on Twitter for “randomly” choosing the Playboy show, but eventually turned to attacking Mormons and Catholics for having “a long history of degrading women.” When someone asked how Catholics currently degrade women, he snapped back “My bad. I should have said little children instead of women.”
Krumholtz began by complaining to the Twitter account @thePTC that they should be attacking a different show on NBC (not exactly a player on Team Peacock, is he?):
It is quite an indictment of your organization that you are so rabidly attempting to have The Playboy Club cancelled, while many...
other shows on primetime network TV are much more violent and degrading to women. Case in point, last week's premiere of "Prime...
Suspect" on NBC featured the lead actress Maria Bello being brutally beaten by a man, to the point where her face was totally...
bloodied and cut open, receiving several vicious punches to the head, and you have not said a SINGLE WORD about it. I guess...
your organization picks and chooses what to protest based on pressure from lobbying groups that fund your efforts. Hypocrites.
When my friend Dan Isett, who represents the PTC in Washington, replied by tweeting that “not everything we talk about makes” The Hollywood Reporter, Krumholtz tweeted back: "But you need to start doing a better job at being a " watch dog group" if you want hollywood to take you seriously. not to mention mormon and catholic based family programming. 2 faiths that have a long history of degrading women."
When Isett re-tweeted that with a "What?" Krumholtz added: “denial ain't just a river in Egypt. Organization would be better served to clean up the reputation of these faiths.” Then @jaycaruso responded with the question “Sorry but how is the Catholic faith currently degrading women?,” Krumholtz wrote “my bad. I should have said little children instead of women.”
For a guy who played a math whiz on TV, all Krumholtz could conclude with was “Point being that in a realm of rabidly biased subjective discussion, anything and everything can be criticized...and demonized. Opinions are like a--holes, Everyone's got 'em.”
Update: After this blog was posted, Krumholtz returned to form, asking if "the veritable epidemic of sexual abuse of children by catholic priests is also excusable??" Epidemic?

The PTC is not just complaining about the show. They are trying to get it cancelled
This is how they make money and put food on the table. Complain about a show till your hearts content, but why try to take away something others might enjoy.
It's about power and control

Opponents decided long ago that this show shouldn't air and they're doing their best to make sure you can't enjoy something something they object to. You know, freedom and all. In this case it seems a lot of energy has been wasted since it looks like the show will be cancelled before it hits 10 episodes.
Thank you Ted

Pointing out hypocrisy in accusations? It doesn't take a genius to recognize the appearance of a fully clothed Chaz Bono has people up in arms, but no one's calling to have DWTS taken off the air (nor an FCC fine) because Nancy Grace can't keep her nipples covered for a 3 minute dance segment.

They aren't shutting down production or gathering in the streets preventing the workers from getting to the studio? They are expressing their opinions that the show shouldn't be aired. Again, their opinions.
why not?
Submitted by Mister Orange on Wed, 09/28/2011 - 7:57pm.
Why shouldn't the show be aired? Is there nudity? Is there excessive cursing? Or is it simply the Playboy brand that's causing the commotion?
And what about Nancy Grace's nipple slip? DWTS has already shown more private parts than NBC will run all season.

When the PTC has any power to actually DO anything, it will become an issue. Do you get this worked up when the AMA comes out with a warning and tells you not to smoke? Or not to use so much salt? Big difference between a government agency not allowing you do to something and a group protesting something.
I know I hate it when

The difference you speak of is a warning versus a demand. AMA says smoking and sodium are unhealthy and we should cease consumption. They're not demanding anyone stops smoking. On the other hand, PTC is demanding NBC's immediate removal of the Play Club.

PTC can't force NBC to remove its programs. If you read their press release it says they are "calling" for the show to be cancelled, not "demanding" as you say. Don't they have the right to call for a show to be cancelled and to boycott its advertisers?

There is one that I know of: Blue Bloods.
The program shows a strong knit Catholic family who have Sunday dinner together, show characters praying, including the Sign of the Cross, and involve clergy in positive roles. The show even had an episode where a favorite priest of the family was going to be relocated because a woman accused the priest of hanky panky. A discussion of atoning for past wrongs of the Church versus standing up for an innocent priest ensued.
Blue Bloods is not a children's show, and some of the guest actors and production are not that polished, but it does celebrate family and religion in the characters' lives, offering positive male and female role models.

Media Streamers
Submitted by stratman on Wed, 09/28/2011 - 10:37pm.
I haven't had cable TV in 13 years. I have relied on the library for free movies and the internet where you can watch TV shows. Now there are Media Streamers that use the internet to bring movies, TV shows and all kinds of programing to your TV / Home Theater.
I bought a Roku 2 XS recently and it has been fantastic so far. Since I already have Amazon Prime for the 2 day shipping, I can watch movies and TV shows offered via Amazon. Am now trying out a month of free Hulu Plus ($8/month), which has lots of TV shows and movies as well. There is a month long free trial of Netflix ($8/month) I'll try next. So much other free stuff to explore it gets a tad overwhelming at first. There is enough content that I may not need to pay another penny after purchasing the Roku (internet connection and electricity excluded!)
You can get NFL Sunday Ticket via a Sony Play Station 3 along with a lot of other streaming content.
More info on various media streamers here. Since I don't play games, the Roku and Western Digital TV Live or WD Live Plus were my top choices. Since the Roku streams Amazon Prime Videos it was my choice. If I wanted to stream local network content (video and audio from a harddrive attached to my home's network) the WDTV Live Plus or TV Live would the better choice.
And you can still enjoy peace and quiet and a good book! :-)
thanks stratman!

The device is tempting but we have no tv to attach it to. Maybe after the kids are done with college. LOL.
I had no idea sports were so available streaming. I might have to send this information on to my sports addict brother in law who really wants to dump cable. We use Hulu too. Just not the plus - if Netflix (*sigh* Quickster) becomes a problem we might look into it.. We've picked up a movie rental or two from Amazon too.

Hulu is an odd beast. There are short commercials during the TV shows I've watched so far. Also, I've read that somethings are only available on either computer only or media streamer only. Overall, great programming selection, including new TV shows. I watched one show that had yet to be on TV. I'll enjoy Hulu during my free month trial.
I like having entire series seasons that I can watch at my leisure. Never know when I'll want to watch Star Trek for the 139th time. (LOL)
Besides the default "channels" offered on these streamers, much gold is to be mined from adding "private channels" like the free assortment packaged in Nowhere TV if you use a Roku. Yes, a lot of fool's gold, but still enough buried treasure to keep you busy, and it's free. Just like the internet having anything you can think of, these channels are following suit. I saw a channel devoted to vibraphone enthusiasts. Go figure!
Using a combination of Over The Air broadcast reception (your local channels) and one of these media streamers with a subscription to Netflix, Hulu Plus, and/or Amazon Prime, you could scrap cable and spend significanlty less money per month without sacrificing much.
Consider dumping your telephone company land line and start using an Ooma, keeping you home phone number, or just use your cell phone and the savings multiply. Your biggest expense will then be for internet service.
There is nothing wrong with complaining about content

The muslim opinion of you is that you are a sub-human pig. They want to march you into the sea along with the rest of the "little Satan" known as Israel. Yet this brilliant anti-Catholic attacks the religion that, for the most part, supports Jews.
Denial is a river in Egypt? How would he know? Today, anti-Jewish feelings run high in Egypt, and is common in the media. The last Jewish wedding in Egypt took place in 1984. The eventual result was the almost complete disappearance of the Jewish community in Egypt; less than a hundred or so remain today.
