George Clooney Wants Democrats Like In His Movies: They'd Ban the Car Engine
George Clooney has begun a publicity tour for his new political thriller The Ides of March (which debuts in theaters October 7). John Horn of the Los Angeles Times says the Clooney character has a platform “so uncompromisingly left-leaning it might make Fox News commentators burst into flames.”
Not only that, Clooney’s character proposes the U.S. government ban the internal combustion engine. Clooney says "make it happen." He actually believes that “these are the kind of leadership things I would love to see.” Horn explained:
Clooney's Gov. Mike Morris is poised to take the Democratic nomination with a platform so uncompromisingly left-leaning it might make Fox News commentators burst into flames. He opposes the death penalty, foreign military intervention and even internal combustion engines and supports gay marriage, mandatory national volunteer service and higher taxes for the richest Americans.
....If real-life Democrats end up taking inspiration from the Mike Morris character and his stump speeches, Clooney will hardly be upset. On climate change and oil, for instance, the governor proposes that the United States do away with the internal combustion engine.
"If we're cut off from oil, we will find a way to power our cars. So say it and make it happen," Clooney said. "It's not ridiculous. It is possible. And these are the kind of leadership things I would love to see and could be argued about. People will say, 'It's just actors.' But I truly believe it."
It sounds a lot like Aaron Sorkin's The American President -- a president so radical ("idealistic") they would have an approval rating lower than Obama's. Clooney grew "more animated" about the issue of taxation:
"This is the one I think should be used by the Democrats," he said, leaning forward in his chair. "Every time you say the richest people in America don't pay their fair share, that is just simply the truth. And yet when you ask them to, everyone said it's 'socialism' or 'the redistribution of wealth.' And you'll hear it over and over again. 'Are you for the redistribution of wealth?' And every Democrat goes, 'No, no, no, no, no' — because they know it's code for socialism.
"To me, that's why the Democrats are so bad at this game. They're always back on their heels. They're always playing defense. I would start with an offense, and I would run on this as a candidate. 'My campaign, my administration, is vehemently against the distribution of wealth by the government to the richest Americans. I'm not going to play your game of, "Are you for the redistribution of wealth?"' I want to go to these guys and say, 'Are you for distributing wealth by the government to the richest Americans?' Straight aggression — not this wimpy stuff. Democrats have always been really bad at that kind of version of politics. I say, 'Get up, stand up.'
"Those are the kind of arguments we have in this film," Clooney said. "And we balance it by saying, 'It doesn't mean this guy isn't going to screw up.'"
Horn said the film is a "a vehicle for Clooney (who directed and co-wrote the movie) and longtime writing and producing partner Grant Heslov to fulfill their wishful thinking about how a stand-up Democrat could walk and talk. But it also takes a hard look at the personal price of politics and its inevitable betrayals and compromises. The film's ultimately pessimistic take may surprise some, given that it comes from a hopeful liberal such as Clooney."
Horn insisted "For better and often for worse, actors have dabbled in politics and causes, but few have shown the kind of sustained and informed interest and commitment -- on- and off-screen -- that Clooney has." But when asked about Obama, Horn made Clooney sound patronizing like Obama was Clooney's...boy?
"I think he's getting beat around," Clooney said, the way a Little League dad might cheer on a son struggling on the pitching mound. "He should go after the S&P for the credit downgrade."
That should tell you how the Horn interview's a few weeks old.

Obviously, I"m sure NONE of us are.
What he REALLY means, though is this:
"Are you for distributing wealth TO the government FROM the richest Americans?"
Everything else he says leads to that conclusion.

I'm curious if George is still driving a car with an internal combution engine while saying they should be banned, or if he's switched to those new vehicles that are powered purely by hopes and dreams.

Idiots, such as Clooney, never stop to think how factories that build electric cars are made, how the parts get from place to place, what propels ships that move the cars from China to here, how the key grip moves his gear around from set to set, or any of those little details.
It's so easy to sit there on H'wood gilded toilets and pass things such as this.

I'll tell you what a very wise man once told me - "Be careful what you pray for. You just might get it."
Now, who do you think would scream the loudest if that internal combustion engine were banned? I'd bet it would be coming from a zip code you all know well - 90210 (Beverly Hills).

No, George, I'm not for the government redistributing ANYONE'S wealth. Let's not forget, George, before the government can tax it and redistribute it to anyone, private citizens have to earn it. And if they don't earn it, government can't have it.

Against their will, take half a dozen pompous, pampered celebrities who advocate "banning the internal combustion engine" or some such bullsheet, and make them live on a $40,000/yr salary and experience the hardships that will undoubtedly ensue after their hare-brained ideas are implemented.

The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away.
In the case of Doug Ross (aka George Clooney), while the Lord did endow him with a good looking face, the Lord did also under-endow another important organ... (his brain).
What Clooney proposes, call me crazy, sounds an awful lot like totalitarianism. I mean, a POTUS doesn't just "ban" things by fiat -- last I knew, it was the Congress that passed bills, and the Congress is elected by poplular vote.
So go for it Mr. President -- follow Dr. Ross's lead and run on a platform of "banning" the internal combustion engine.
But if you do, you can count on getting two votes: Your's and that district attorney's, er, I mean that ER doctor's.

and just God. He compensates. Now Looney Clooney obviously has no inherent intelligence of any consequence. that's obvious by what comes out of his mouth. but, and here's where God is fair: he has given Looney marketable good looks and a talent for acting. he has a talent for memorizing what somebody else wrote, he has a talent for looking good in clothes somebody else told him to wear, he has a talent for standing and moving where somebody else tells him to stand and move. without those things, Clooney would be living in a homeless shelter and walking with a sign around his neck that says "will work for food." So never let anybody tell you God is not just and fair.

I would kick George Clooney's butt all over the street in a debate.
"My campaign, my administration, is vehemently against the distribution of wealth by the government to the richest Americans."
How exactly does that work? The rich aren't on welfare. The rich don't get food stamps. The rich don't get housing assistance. The rich don't get college grants. The rich aren't on unemployment.
In addition, the top 10% are paying around 70% of the taxes. So they're paying in, but getting very little out.
So where exactly is the distribution? Explain to us, George, how people NOT paying in are somehow providing wealth to the people who are.
Give me a break.
Any time, anywhere, George Clooney. And don't bring a teleprompter.

Well, I think Gorgeous George
Submitted by killa37 on Mon, 09/26/2011 - 1:39pm.
Well, I think Gorgeous George live in some big villa in Italy.........but he works in Hollywood - and gets paid a ton of money for his work. Personally, I liked 'Oh Brother, Where Art Thou', but I don't watch his other movies. How does he get around?? I think he's gone to Darfur a few times to be an 'expert' on that problem too..............I even think that he saw the brutality and mayhem that was being caused by the moooooooooooooooooooooooooooslems against the Christians. And I'm sure that the guy has really nice things.
So he wants to give all of that up??? George - how will you fly from Italy to Hollywood to make your big paycheck - on a solar-powered plane?? And how, pray tell, will Hollywood power the zillions of mega-watt hours of electricity that they use on your film??? Hollywood is one of the most wasteful 'green' places in this world, as far as I can tell!!!
Hey George, keep being a good-looking actor - you're useless in any other field.
Missed this one the first time around...

The character opposes "foreign military intervention." I guess his character opposes Obama and the 2 or 3 wars he's started these past few years (without Congressional approval).

I think the South Park cartoon is onto something.
It now appears that if you get smug enouugh it causes brain damage.
It also apears that the smug get such target fixation on attacking Republicans that they would destroy the country to strike at the roots of American Republicans. South Park already did this on second hand smoke.

WTF is it with lefty's and their desire to establish a totalitarian state?
The repeatedly call for the desolation of rights for those that disagree with their leftist ideology
They call for, as well as engage in, violence against any that might stand in the way of them achieving the leftist goals.
They consistently gush and fawn of leftists dictators.
And they share the ideology of past leftist dictators who are themselves responsible for the deaths of opponents numbering in the millions.
They routinely release private information about their opponents in attempts to intimidate them into silence.
An individual "leftist" intimidates me not one iota, but when they start crawling out from under the rocks in the millions......lets just say that I thank God everyday that the founding Fathers sought to protect my "right" to bear arms.

Hay, Clooney, (or is it Clueless?) if you're so concerned about the"issues" presented in your movie, one that you co-wrote, then why don't you actually run for office, as opposed to merely fantasizing about it in a movie script? This may come as a surprise to you, but no fictional character , especially movie characters, has EVER changed history.

Mr. Clooney has played so many characters that he really thinks he is one, and all of them. Everyday in Hollywood's America somebody like Mr. Clooney reveals their most inner moronics, and idiocy by saying things that their brains have never been able to analyze first. I would strongly suggest to Mr. Clooney to stick to acting, and next time he opens his pie hole, make sure it is not his rectum doing the talking.

The judge sustained George's commitment to the inpatient mental hospital and informed him that his interest in politics was the root cause of his insanity. Just a psychiatric parsing of those words about George Clooney playing the "secret political knowledge" card.
I hope the movie will be as a big a flop as all of the other anti-American flicks produced by the nest of treachery in Hollyweird in the past decade.

I've enjoyed a few of his movies but there is no way I would pay $$ to see this, Syrania, or any other politically charged film for which he is involved. He has openly said Obama "is a friend." He has openly declared himself as a liberal (when he accepted an Oscar for something a few years ago) and even said we have civil rights in this country because of liberals which is total hogwash! Anyone paying attention knows we have civil rights in this country because of the GOP! If it had been left up to only liberals we would still be a segregated nation. It took the GOP to drag the Dems into that fray!
I feel the same way about him as I do any other liberal hypocrite in that if you really "believe" then walk the walk!!! Give away all your millions and learn to live on $100k per year!! That is an incredible amount of money and you would receive the respect of most people for putting your money where your big mouth is!!!
