Fox's Megyn Kelly: Disapprove of Chaz Bono? You're Pushing for Violence

By Tim Graham | September 16, 2011 | 09:03

Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly is going to earn an award from LGBT activists for getting vein-popping angry on The O’Reilly Factor Thursday that psychiatrist Dr. Keith Ablow would dare to suggest parents may want to flip the remote away from “transgender” activist Chaz Bono on ABC’s Dancing With the Stars on Monday.

Who said Fox News was the right-wing channel? There was Kelly, insisting to O’Reilly that Dr. Ablow’s warning on Foxnews.com against Bono's show was going to lead to violence from American wackos at the McDonald’s.

Kelly said Ablow's science was "way off base," but O’Reilly pressed Kelly to say Ablow wasn’t a bad guy, but she insisted he could cause violence. “That doesn’t mean his own words won’t lead to that.” The column “was irresponsible and dangerous and could lead to some real problems. Listen, this group of people already undergoes enough discrimination and isolation and violence. “

O’Reilly suggested she was on a “slippery slope” insisting criticism equals violence, and she shot back, “No, don’t talk over it! I’m telling you! This group of people is persecuted already, and now you’ve got Dr. Ablow telling people that if your kids sees one in a manner that’s something akin to a celebration, your kid may wind up being one of them! Now there are people in this country that will react to that, and the next time they see a transgender at the McDonald’s or at some group event, and that’s irresponsible."

To Megyn Kelly, to disapprove is to cause violence. Where is the debate in that?

Kelly drew O'Reilly's attention after a Tuesday interview/denunciation/sensitivity training seminar with Ablow on her show, where she denounced Ablow for "adding to the hate."

Ablow said applauding gender reassignment surgery -- the way the media celebrates Chaz Bono for the "courage" of her "transition" -- is irresponsible.  Angry Kelly shot back: "Isn’t it just tolerant? Isn’t it just tolerant? You know what? There's so much hate out there. There's so much hate for gays and lesbians and transgendered people...The thing is, Doc, you seem to be adding to the hate."

Kelly, who appeared as a "special guest" at a Manhattan fundraiser for the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association (as many Fox News employees have), told Ablow that he was out of his depth and that other doctors knew more than he did. She quoted from Dr. Jack Drescher, who also had a piece on Foxnews.com denouncing Ablow. Kelly did not tell her viewers that Drescher's piece was borrowed from the blog of the Human Rights Campaign, the nation's largest LGBT lobby  -- which might make one think there's more than "science" here in the mix.

Kelly was really angry that Ablow would suggest that watching the show could cause confusion in children and suggest to them that perhaps they' were born in the wrong gender. "I think the viewers get this. I think they get that our children are no more likely to turn transgender from watching Chaz Bono on this show than they are likely to turn gay from watching Will and Grace. You either are, or you’re not."

Kelly did not admit that gay-left advocates often cite pro-LGBT shows on the major networks as proof that "tolerance" is on the march and conservatives should stop opposing them in public.

I suppose this blows up the perception, often expressed in the NB threads, that Ms. Kelly is an all-out warrior for conservative values. It also goes to show that there are very few people in public life who are 100% conservative on every last issue. Despite disagreeing with Megyn Kelly on this issue ( and a few others), I still think she shows a lot of common sense on many other issues (although I have noticed a tendency by her to play "the smartest person in the room" and she can get overbearing on occasion). I hope she doesn't attract the vitriol that Karl Rove and Charles Krauthammer received when they occasionally express doubts and concerns about the viability of some conservative candidates. We've got to look at their whole record before consigning them to "RINO" status.

In fact the Log Cabin conservatives are gay and believe in approximately 90% if not more of what the base believes in. I do not vilify gays but also do not promote their agenda either.

I am not an advocate of the death penalty but do not think proponents should be silenced. A good spirited debate is never a bad thing.

Krauthammer is what he is - a liberal

Submitted by lrgon on Fri, 09/16/2011 - 1:56pm.

"... Krauthammer ...on domestic issues,... is a supporter of legalized abortion;an opponent of the death penalty; an intelligent design critic and an advocate for the scientific consensus on evolution, calling the religion-science controversy a "false conflict;" a supporter of embryonic stem cell research using embryos discarded by fertility clinics with restrictions in its applications; and a longtime advocate of radically higher energy taxes to induce conservation." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Krauthammer

He's been at the Washington Post for 15 years. Before that he wrote for the totally leftist journal The New Republic. So one can be safe to say that he is not a conservative on "domestic issues" like say Michelle Bachman or Ron Paul. Maybe as liberal as Mitt but not as liberal as Chaz.

Get a grip, Megyn.

Submitted by Mike Bratton on Fri, 09/16/2011 - 9:25am.

People who are prone to be violent are going to be violent regardless of the circumstance--whether it's at a soccer match or at a McDonald's.

Would you suggest that members of this group of "persecuted people" get the psychological help they so desperately need? Of course not. You, Megyn, want to send them on their merry way and pretend they're not in the throes of a mental illness. Hey, if they're journalists, you'll even hang out with them and affirm their shared affliction.

Dr. Ablow is adding to the hate? Hardly.

But you, Megyn, are very much adding to the deluding of individuals who should be getting help, rather than a pat on the head. We can talk about your adding to the debasing of the culture another time.

Putting this crap on television is "normalizing" it, and that's exactly the idea. That's why you see gay characters popping up in practically every show and movie.

They're trying to beat it into every kid's head that this stuff is normal and that the people involved aren't freaks, which it isn't and they are.

Of course, a big chunk of prime time television is either garbage for the MTV generation or it's propaganda for the Left, like Modern Family.

Identity

Submitted by Chris Norman on Fri, 09/16/2011 - 10:03am.

I don't quite understand - are people like Chaz Bono looking to be identified with their "new sex" or as "transgendered people"? I would think if, say, a woman, wanted to be man, they would have the necessary operations and then go off and quietly live in their new identities instead of offering themselves up on national television as the process rather than the result. Maybe my confusion is caused by my knuckles dragging on the ground...

Let's make the 2012 campaign: "The War on Error"

Good question

Submitted by Galvanic on Fri, 09/16/2011 - 11:57am.

I think generally, your assumptions are correct. Individuals seek privacy to avoid the freak show syndrome.

But Chastity/Chaz Bono has been in the public eye since her/his parents displayed weekly on their TV variety show, and her/his struggle to discover her gender identity has been very public, no thanks to supermarket tabloids, etc. It certainly didn't help Bono's self-esteem.

I think that now that Bono has arrived at this male identity and appears happy with it (mom Cher finally accepts it), Chaz Bono wants to publicly proclaim this personal transition to construct an image as a transgender crusader, making the world better for transgendered folks (and those considering), and thus boost his/her self-esteem as a "Hey, I'm okay with myself and you accept me" kind of hero. This person needs the acclamation of the public (through the MSM) more than just about any human being.

Over the Top Megyn

Submitted by FaulknerFan on Fri, 09/16/2011 - 9:57am.

I saw this last night. My wife had seen it during the day and was fuming about it before Kelly was on O'Reilly. For once O'Reilly was the voice of reason here as Kelly went off the rails on it again. The whole LGBT issue seems to be a bur under her saddle as it is with the Hoover woman who O'Reilly has on every week. Never liked Hoover because she is a clear RINO but I did like Megyn, until now. Hoover's grandaddy though was the first to respond to a failing economy with increased government spending that was derided by FDR during the campaign and then doubled up on when he took office, thereby prolonging a problem that likely would have worked itself out in a year or two to at least ten years. So at least maybe Hoover has her linage as an excuse. Maybe since her baby came Megyn's decided to angle for a job at one of the alphabets.

I’m probably going to mess this argument up a bit (make it more confusing than it has to be – lol), but:

It seems to me that Megyn is a “legal expert” and Dr. Ablow is a “Mental Health” expert - So rather than arguing against Dr. Ablow, would it not have been better for Megyn to pursue the legal issues? I can think of one right off the top of my head: “Is it legal to force a female professional dancer to dance with another woman as a condition of employment?”

It’s a “What-if” question, but what if the dancing partner of Chastity/Chaz/It refused to perform with the “She-it” on moral grounds and got fired for her refusal… Which side of the argument would hold Megyn’s sympathies?

Just wondering. (And very, very disappointed with Ms. Kelly)

  •  To disagree with gender reassignment surgery is not defacto hating that person any more than disapproving of breast enhancement surgery is akin to hating the woman who is considering the change.
  • "You either are, or you’re not."  Listen to your own words, Megyn.  You either are a man or a woman, or you're not.  Lopping off or adding certain pieces of flesh in Lego fashion does not change your DNA.  Allowing children to think that they have a choice is not helpful to the children or society.

Gawd, I just love that term "hater".  It's so typical of the Liberal mindset..."We don't agree with you politically, so we'll attach a label to you based on emotion, and leave the argument at that, with no further discussion."  Reminds me of a schoolyard whine..."You're such a meanie!"

I'm sorry that life cannot be puppies and daisies for everyone, but sometimes, people are not completely comfortable in their own skin.  It may be their cross to bear, and I'm all for helping people with their own happiness, but to think that making gender reassignment surgery should be put forth as an option to a confused adolescent does the VAST MAJORITY of confused adolescents (and many are, it's the nature of maturing) more harm than good.

I predict

Submitted by Chaitealover on Fri, 09/16/2011 - 10:55am.

that Chaz will be introduced on DWTS as "Chaz Bono" followed by whatever professional credit they choose, not "Chaz Bono, Transgendered person," or "Chaz Bono, formerly a woman but now a man." And all the little children will watch the performance, then watch whoever comes on next. And not get violent because of this appearance on a program very few people watch [even if it gets good ratings, which only indicates a percentage of the people actually watching anything on TV at that time, not the entire population].

I would hope that will be the case

Submitted by Galvanic on Fri, 09/16/2011 - 12:04pm.

But TV is about marketing, and I think that unless Bono objects, they will at least do a before-and-after intro like, "You first met him years ago on the Sonny & Cher show (photo of Sonny next to Cher holding Chastity in her arms), and now he's competing on here tonight with dance partner Jane Doe. Let's have a warm welcome for Chaz Bono."

As a self-appointed transgender activitist, Bono may actually prefer this way, and the producers, in their PC-ness stitched to their impulsive freak show nature, may push for it.

I do not care

Submitted by richb313 on Fri, 09/16/2011 - 11:04am.

I do not care that Chaz Bono is Transgendered or a turtle, it does not affect me in any way. At the same time the constant glorification is also worrisome. Why can't it just be nobodys business. It does not comport with my own personal beliefs but I am not the moral or thought police for anyone else. That is between them and thier maker.

Morals cannot be legislated and we should not even try. The way to make a moral difference is in what you do, not what others do. If there were enough moral people it would not be necessary to have this conversation.

Lead by example. Do the right thing and be an example to others. That is the only way to recover our morals as a country. The left will always push the boundries of decency but if in our own lives we show the results of a moral life it will not be necessary to preach or legislate these things.

I feel sorry for C Bono because that person will never find any happiness and will probably end up alone and bitter in a self made prison of hate and despair. Pity that person who has no real sense of identity and seems constantly in need of finding one.

The problem is that what

Submitted by redfish on Fri, 09/16/2011 - 1:02pm.

The problem is that what Megyn Kelly said is classic double talk :

She said that its nonsense to argue without evidence that promoting a certain view of gender will influence children to see themselves as transgender --

---but she herself is claiming, without any evidence, that Ablow's views will influence people to become bigots.

Is Ms. Kelley encouraging people to be hateful towards Keith Ablow?

Ms Kelly was right and wrong*

Submitted by cajun2 on Fri, 09/16/2011 - 1:14pm.

Ms Kelly's arguments left out several important issues.

First, inciting people prone to violence is not a simple issue. There are two responses for ordinary humans to perceived threat. Flight or fight. Some people who are aggressive and prone to violence will become violent at the slightest provocation ie the McDonalds incident she brought up. The "victim" of that assault was a perceived threat to two women who did not want a man in their bathroom. When provoked, those two women reacted according to their "normal" behavior based upon their "normal" enviornment. Notice, the "victim" never fought back. Society has not yet been able to "accomodate" those who are openly transgender and I mean simply good manners. Should we be building 3 bathrooms in every McDonalds? would have been a good question. We are already telling McDonalds and other aspects of our society what to serve, what to eat, what to wear, where to pray, when to wave a flag, whats civil and what isnt.

Secondly, Dr Ablow was trying to distinquish between the "celebrity" of the transgender process and the current homosexual agenda sweeping the country and media rehtoric. The transgender process, both medical and psychological is more in line with his profession than hers. She made herself look more emotional and less intellectual by demeaning Dr Ablow's opinions on the subject. Again, transgender is a "new" agenda in our society partly due to the "openess" of homosexuality and advances in medical and psychological treatments for those seeking a "new" identity. Again, Dr Ablow is more prepared to discuss this view of the subject than Ms Kelly.

Third, the argument is once again what is to be introduced to our children. Parents should be the ones to decide what our children should be exposed to in and out of the home. We have an Education Czar pushing the gay agenda into our elementary schools already. Sometimes at the cost of reading and writing as evidenced by the historic lows in student test scores. Our educational system has become more of a social networking for certain agendas rather than the intended sole purpose of "education" of our children.

Again, I do not believe that a transgender person will incite violence against others like Chaz. Those prone to violence already find excuses. Look at recent events with the unions in Washington, Michigan, NY verizon strikers, growing "flash mobs". They have been given" permission" to express their already existing tendency to violence by Union leaders and race baiters. Normal, rational, law abiding citizens do not normally use violence to express their opposition. We have protests, petitions, elections, lawsuits, and of course, the new TEA Party. The TEA Party, regardless of name calling, has yet to show any single episode of violence at their gatherings yet have been demonized as violent barbarians. Which basically is what Ms Kelly was doing. Criticizing a group of people who disagree by the far reaching "anti homosexuality" will lead to violent hate crimes.
An emotional response based on ideology, not an intellectual debate on substantive and important issues.

I used to like Shepard Smith until he hit ground in New Orleans after Katrina and started screeching like a little girl about Bush and "how come the federal government isn't here yet" crap.

It takes one little pet liberal cause to break their facade, and then the hack comes pouring out.

Parents one would think are intolerant of punks trying to hook their children on drugs. If we would all just shut up and do what the enlightened Mr. Obama wants life would just be wonderful. No more having to work. Someone else to pay the mortgage. Free health care for all. More pension benefits for government and union retirees. No need to travel to work or pleasure. No more evil hunting and fishing. No more upsetting news reports. Wealth based taxes to eliminate wealth. No heat or light in our homes. Freedom to donate tainted blood so that everyone can enjoy aids. Free reeducation for conservatives. Criminals with get out of jail free cards. No criminal jail sentences longer than 30 days. Staunch conservatives in jail for life (exception to previous rule). Death sentence for all Bush appointees. It just doesn't get any better than that, does it? With all this coming our way I just can't help of remembering the opening half of Dr. Zhivago when he has to donate 3/4 of his private home to party members, and then work in dingy worn out hospitals for no pay. Boy, I just can't wait.

Megyn Kelly .....A female version of Shepard Smith?

Submitted by Rush Fan on Fri, 09/16/2011 - 4:06pm.

It's not just her latest tiff with Dr. Keith Ablow, that I watched live at the time.  I was a regular viewer of Megyn Kelly's two hour show (while listening to Rush Limbaugh on the radio at the same time) and even sent her an email congratulating her when she put Kirsten Powers in her place over the Black Panthers polling incident.

But I've watched her with disappointment as she transformed into a female Shepard Smith. For example, when she has a representative from the Right and the Left on discussing an issue, I've noticed that she often restates and attempts to clarify unnecessarily the position of her guest on the Left when posing a question to her guest on the Right. In actuality, making it two on the Left against one on the Right.

I don't believe there is any question that the Leftist media promotes homosexuality and attempts to re-educate and promote that lifestyle to our youth, starting as early as kindergarten. On that note, look for California to be the first state to pass transgender marriage in the near future

By the way, "Fair and Balanced" is overrated. Personally, I'm not interested in listening to an Alan Colmes, Bob Beckel, Juan Williams or any other Lefty spewing banalities ad nauseum. I'm looking forward to the day we have a television network on the Right similar to what MESSNBC has on the Left. No Lefties allowed.

It's a show with sequins & spray on tans, right?

Submitted by felizagain on Fri, 09/16/2011 - 4:12pm.

Spray on tans, sequins, spandex, D & E & F List Celebrities, and in this case, the child of a celebrity, trying to dance, and we, the audience watching, waiting for them to mess up, i.e., fall down, split their pants, drop a partner, etc. It's a show w/glitter and nonsense, and silly judges, and that's all. This is not the United Nations, Congress, etc. It's a show which wants desperately to get YOU to watch - to cheer or jeer. No different than when they had on Paul McCartney's dreaded ex-wife w/a disability, Marlee Matlin who is deaf, Kirstie Alley who was very overweight, they like to have the 'gotcha' celebrity each season - Chaz Bono is that person this year.

Ratings, it is all about generating buzz, and getting ratings. Period. ABC and DWTS sees only one thing: green. Ka-Ching,more controversy, more attention, more free PR, more ratings! It is working.

Megyn is giving her opinion, silly as it may be.
Equating a dissenting opinion will not equal violence.

If that were the case, the US Congress would ban a lot of rap music. The State of California would ban a lot of
spanish language tv w/very stereotypical gay characters in novelas and moves every day - not at all USA-PC.
That isn't happening, and both those areas promote old stereotypes, which can be hurtful.

Disliking Chaz Bono on DWTS is an opinion.
It will no more result in (the rare) assault on a gay person, then saying you don't like Michelle Bachman will result in
an assault on a conservative. If you say get them in your crosshairs......like Obama did about targeting GOP, is that
a call to violence? Keep the barbarians at the gate, like Biden said, is that a call for violence?

I'd rather have people say something, utter a thought, than just hold it in.

Chaz will make money off of this show. His profile will go up.Cher will get on tv shows to tell us how tolerant she is.
Please recall Chaz herself wrote Mom was anything but happy and tolerant w/her coming out as a teenager.....she was the exact opposite. Was that promoting violence? No.

I may not like Chaz Bono on the show - it may make a parent have a talk w/their school age kid about what transgender means, when they're like 6.......it may bring out gay rights groups....ok, that's all possible, good and bad. That's a legitimate concern if you thought the show was all about family entertainment.

It is about ratings and money. Period. Not family values or Obama or Perry or Romney or Clinton. Ratings and money. They would put a monkey on if they thought it would get ratings, they want money. Period.

You can show your displeasure by doing one thing tv executives hate: turn the channel.
You can do the same thing to Megyn Kelly, turn the channel, or turn her off.

Memo to Fox News: You can hire a female anchor who is not blonde. They do exist.
