Minnesota Laugh Lines: Voter Tells WaPo Obama 'Inherited a Very Big Deficit'

By Tim Graham | August 16, 2011 | 08:26

The Congressional Budget Office recently reported "The federal budget deficit was about $1.1 trillion in the first 10 months of fiscal year 2011...66 billion less than the roughly $1.2 trillion deficit incurred through July 2010." President Obama has tripled the size of President Bush's largest deficits. But for Tuesday's paper, The Washington Post and reporter Zachary Goldfarb plucked out this voter from Obama's bus tour stop in Cannon Falls, Minnesota to utterly ignore reality:

"I think he’s doing a good job. He inherited a very big deficit,” said Bob Sixta, a financial planner from Rochester.

Earth to Goldfarb, Princeton '05: Do they not teach math at Princeton any more? Perhaps Obama inherited a very big deficit, but he's hardly done a good job in reducing it. He's tripled it. But the paragraph wasn't finished. Sixta added: “He and Michelle are the first residents of the White House to be familiar with both organic food and leftovers.”

Does Bob Sixta (pictured at right; photo via Facebook) sound like a Democrat? It sounds like someone with the same name who argued for Sen. Al Franken in 2009 on the leftish Minnesota Independent website:

Norm Coleman should take the honorable action and congratulate Senator elect Al Franken and offer support so that Minnesotan and the nation can move forward addressing the grave issues facing our state and the country. On the other hand, if I were Norm I’m not sure I would willingly return to the dark side of Bush/Cheney supporters and tell them “Look fellas we had a good run, but misplaced our integrity and honorable action”. For some reason those folks don’t strike me as being from Lake Wobegon.

Goldfarb's story was limited to Obama's quotes attacking Republicans who would "rather see their opponents lose than America win." There were no Republican candidates (or Republican voters along Obama's bus tour) included.

He made no mention of conservative complaints that Obama is riding a new $.1.1 million armored bus so he can look like a man of the people, or that the White House lamely denied that this is a campaign trip that needs to funded by the DNC instead of the taxpayers.

Another transparent hack

Gold is trading for nearly $1,800 an ounce. Goldfarb, on the other hand, isn't worth the paper it's printed on.

Just SAD

Submitted by HelenS on Tue, 08/16/2011 - 8:56am.

This is just sad.

What's sadder, though, is that the dumbing-down of America has made it possible to elect frauds and idiots.

I do sincerely hope that there will be a synaptic awakening in time to turn this bus around! (sorry - couldn't help myself :o)

Obama's Tax Payer Funded Campaign Tour

Submitted by Roy Rogers on Tue, 08/16/2011 - 9:00am.

Liberals just don't care that Obama's making us pay for this campaign bus tour. The left wants our wealth redistributed anyway. So what if it goes to Obama?

Just think Franken Klobuchar and Dayton

Submitted by dasher on Tue, 08/16/2011 - 9:02am.

Besides "inheriting" a large deficit we in MN are stuck with Franken and Klobuchar as senators, and Mark Dayton as Gov. Voters here aren't known for their smarts. The state doesn't even have a Democrat party, it has a DFL party. (democrat-farmer-labor).

Maybe Obama inherited the deficits because there has been no budget for the US for nearly 3 years.

I'll say this...

Submitted by C-townGiant on Tue, 08/16/2011 - 9:08am.

As someone who has been in the financial business for over 20 years, I have a bigger concern that some guy who bills himself as a "financial planner" has absolutely no clue about what is going on in this country economically.

I weep for the people dumb enough to be his clients. Idiots like Bob Sixta are the reason this business has a black eye these days.

In reality, the guy is a hack life insurance pusher with a two-bit tiny firm with lax oversight. He throws in a few variable annuities, thus the "financial planner" tag. But, oh yeah, the WaPo sees him as some sort of financial guru.

Financial Planner ... Princeton Educated???

Submitted by Great Debater on Tue, 08/16/2011 - 9:20am.

Note to self: Do NOT hire this guy to plan your family's financials.

A $1,100,000 bus, the cost of all the security detail (Secret Service, State Troopers, etc.), the fuel, etc., and the TAXPAYERS have to pay for nearly every penny of it because the White House says this is part of his "official duties?" He's asking us to sacrifice more, and THIS is what we're getting for our money now?

It appears that the one entity that does not share in sacrifice is government.

The wording was a little confusing...

Submitted by C-townGiant on Tue, 08/16/2011 - 9:53am.

...but the REPORTER was Princeton educated.

The so-called "financial planner" is just a hack life insurance pusher that graduated from the University of Iowa. Nothing against the Hawkeyes; just really hate these clowns who say they are "financial planners" when they are just run of the mill insurance agents.

Funny how President Downgrade can declare these political tours

Submitted by virginia republican on Tue, 08/16/2011 - 9:56am.

"official", the taxpayers foot the bill and there's no higher authority to stop it. Much like the way the Senate's Indian Affairs Committee (Democrat controlled naturally) can arrange a taxpayer paid junket to Maui (where there are no American Indians) for one of their meetings. Must be nice.

"Very big????"

Submitted by Pilgrim1949 on Tue, 08/16/2011 - 11:13am.

Ah, aside from the astute, laser-focused, "trump card" observation of this ersatz financial planner (pity the poor fools that have looked to him for advice), I wonder how this intellectual/financial giant would assess in just which direction things have gone especially during the time that Ozoneman and his Intergalactic (certainly not of this Earth!) Cosmic Rangers had complete, total control over all three branches of government and how well they stewarded the "mess" they supposedly found to be so utterly beyond their combined brilliance and competence to handle.

Just "how big" (sort of, a bit, certainly not "very"!) would this genius rate the current level of Federal debt and deficit (we're talking financial, not his own obvious mental deficit) to be?

Hmmm?????

I think the democrap hack is

Submitted by eaglewingz08 on Tue, 08/16/2011 - 12:15pm.

I think the democrap hack is confusing the budget deficit with the national debt. Obama "inherited" the democrap Congress' deficit for the last two years of Bush's term in office (which budget deficits were approved and voted on by Sen. Obama). The democraps increased the republican budget deficit from 161 billion, to over 400 billion in two years, then tripled that the following year where it has remained ever since. So, how can Obama who voted for these budget deficits in 2007-2008, and thereby created them, claim to have "inherited" them? He inherited them from himself.

Obama "inherited" a deficit?

Submitted by CobraMan on Tue, 08/16/2011 - 2:29pm.

Obama "inherited" a "very big deficit" from Bush? I don't see how. Obama signed the 2009 budget bill that lead to that "very big deficit" right after he took office, as a gift from the democrats. It's very interesting that President Obama signed the very budget bill he voted for as a Senator. So, as was pointed out earlier, he inherited a deficit from himself!

Minnesota Dumb Sixta fits the bill.

Submitted by hughglass on Tue, 08/16/2011 - 3:51pm.

Bozo chose his campaign locations wisely. Having lived 5 years in the cities, I can attest that the upper midwest scandahovians, especially the norski Luterens, are the among most wonderful folks you could ever run into. Sadly, they are also the most naive bxstards ever to walk the face of the earth. These are the folks who rush to the phone "in the next' 20 minutes" to get the extra "wonder spot remover" for FREE. Seen 'em up close and personal, a laugh riot. The only reason NYC grifters don't move into the area, is because it would be way too easy. Based on my experience, it is likely that many of these folks actually believe the constant string of lies coming out of bozo's pie hole. Think Ventura, Franken, Dayton (twice). Many are still waiting for Henry Hill to return to start the Boys Band!!

A bus tour

Submitted by wingnut55 on Tue, 08/16/2011 - 4:47pm.

I guess we can see who the leader is and who is the follower. Sarah Palin had her bus tour and now the President is following her example. This alone should show that President Obama is willing to follow "President" Palin's example. Maybe he should take a page out of LBJ's book and "choose not to run".
