Lefties Giddily Ask: 'Could We Soon See A World Without Fox News?'

By Tim Graham | July 14, 2011 | 11:54

Vyan at Daily Kos is getting giddy in a post headlined “Could we soon see a world without Fox News?” It's apparently all over for FNC: "In less than a week the News of the World Wiretapping and Bribery Scandal has quickly metastasized into a Multi-Headed Dragon of Death for Murdoch Empire and simply lopping off one head, doesn't seem to be enough - the infection has already spread."

Now that Fox-hating liberal interest groups, bloggers,  and Democrat politicians are vowing to investigate, the Kosmonauts think Murdoch's "criminal enterprise" is about to collapse:

With the current head of the Murdoch's Wall Street Journal caught directly in this scandal - it won't be long before they start shedding those assets as well, and yes, Fox News too - as it's been obvious for a long time they are a Criminal Enterprise just like the rest of his media empire.  Possibly one of the worst since Murdoch didn't buy them as an existing enterprise - He built it from the Ground Up, which means the rot has always been part of it's core.

The topic also came up on Tuesday's Thom Hartmann show, where a Washington liberal had to tell Hartmann to calm down with the Mafia metaphors for Murdoch Incorporated:

HARTMANN:Aren't we looking right now at...an organized crime syndicate, basically, that owns newspapers, or am I being hyperbolic here?

MELANIE SLOAN of CREW (CITIZENS FOR RESPONSIBILITY AND ETHICS IN WASHINGTON): Well, I think you might be a little hyperbolic.

But then, so was Randi Rhodes on Monday afternoon: "The whole world is being blackmailed by FOX News!"

But perhaps these people are all pikers compared to Mike Malloy, who went on a typical oxygen-deprived rant on July 7:

MALLOY: But the reason it's important is because Murdoch and his banshees in this country - they try constantly to corrupt, pollute and destroy this society, everybody - everybody from this twit Sean Hannity...to the raging psychopath that was recently fired...to - to Bill O'Reilly, some kind of a twisted sex pervert of the highest order, to all these dingbats that they have all day long on FOX News - empty headed vacuum brains, it's astonishing to watch!

Rupert Murdoch should be shut down! He should be denied a business license! The federated uh police should march on um, Fox News Channel headquarters tomorrow, lock everybody up on suspicion - material witnesses to what went on in the UK. Just lock them all up! No bond, nothing! And after the time that could be held, according to FOX News Channel, uh, people should be held on suspicion as long as it takes. Once we've reached some kind of limit then we should charge them with attempted treason against the United States. What do you call it when you have within your country a news organization, a couple of them, that spends its entire budget trying to tear down and destroy the structure of the country? What do you call that? Treason! There's another word for it!

- Fox News will continue to kick the liberal media's ass in ratings and opinion polls.

- You will continue to have radio audiences consisting of your board ops, producers and families.

It would backfire...big time.

Submitted by Dr. T on Thu, 07/14/2011 - 1:55pm.

You're absolutely correct. What would happen is that all the best talent on FOX would become free agents and it's a guarantee they would eventually end up at whatever network decided that ratings and advertising revenue are GOOD things. That would mean forcing out the dead weight at those networks, inevitably creating a FOX Phase 2. The bigger down side for the Libs? One less Lib network/mouthpiece because none of the displaced Libs would ever be able to find a job in the industry again. There's no void for them to fill.

This is exactly what all these liberals want to do, but now they think they have an excuse to say it. These people are, and I hate to say it like this, the epitome of Nazi fascism. Malloy wants to throw all these "treasonous" (and by his definition, treason is committed by anybody who disagrees with his brand of liberalism) people in jail "on suspicion" as long as possible, without charges. This is how too many on the left, even elected officials, feel about their political opposition, but won't say for fear of their true feelings being made public. Well, now it's out in the open. We've already heard Obama telling people not to listen to the likes of Limbaugh and Fox News. Next thing you know, he'll call it an arrestable offense.

Back in the real world...

Submitted by Dr. T on Thu, 07/14/2011 - 2:06pm.

In reality, this is all just a big, Lib wet dream. Assuming FOX is just going to go away is like thinking, in sports, that the Yankees or Cowboys could just be removed from their respective leagues with no repercussions and just because some people (jealous people) don't like them. First off, continuing the sports analogy, the teams wouldn't be penalized...only the ownership would be. Then, being the most highly coveted products now available on the market, someone else will purchase them and in making such an investment, will say, "Let's keep doing exactly what you've been doing. I like making money and being successful."

Remember, when George Steinbrenner was forced out of baseball in the early 90s...many thought it would be the demise of the Yankees for years to come. Instead, they started to become MORE powerful in his absence and by the time he got back into the game, they were a perennial playoff team and soon became the highest valued sports franchise in the world.

Don't think the same wouldn't happen in the case of FOX. The most powerful television news network is not going anywhere and not changing one bit.

Submitted by buddyc on Thu, 07/14/2011 - 4:49pm.

Where there is hole to fill, it will be filled, whether by Fox or someone else. Murdoch is in it for the money. I certainly don't think he is a conservative idealogue. He contributes to both parties. His movie division is as liberal and sick as the others. His television station is as liberal and sick as the others. Only his cable news station might be considered conservative.

I also think Immelt whose company, GE, relies heavily on government funds is also in it for the money. However Immelt has gone way beyond Murdoch in his political activities and his media outlets are far worse than Fox. No doubt GE will suffer in getting government contracts (I HOPE) if a republican wins the whitehouse. Were I a GE shareholder I would sale my GE stock well in advance of 2012.

Why was Burton even leading an investigation in light of his meager investigative skills? I suspect naked partisanship motivated Burton. How about you?

"More qualified professional agencies"?  Would that be the Park Police, the Famous But Incompetent, or who?  Hey, I didn't think Burton should have gotten involved, anymore than the aforementioned FB of I should  be investigating FOX.  Let them go back to doing what they do best, like responding to bank robberies to pick up the reports of the local PD or SD, and take custody of the suspect if/when he's arrested, if it's a high profile case.

what exactly is a "google"?  Don't use it myself, gave it up a while back, and much like quitting smoking, it has proved to be a relief of immense proportions.  And, on Bing, the Santa Fe, N.M. entry is #2, right after a Wikipedia entry.  Since I usually view Wiki as being as credible as 0's "plan" for deficit reduction, I placed little credence in their info, but this is the first sentence in their entry, "Fort Marcy Park is a public park located in unincorporated McLean, Virginia, in Fairfax County. It is administered by the National Park Service as part of the George Washington Memorial Parkway."

So, your guess might be wrong, as it pertains to my thoughts.  And Santa Fe is the last bastion of dem politics, til you get to Kalifornia.  So, it would be exile for a D.C. corruptocrat.

To re-elect Obama would be like the Titanic backing up and hitting the iceberg again.

BTW...Fort Marcy Ball Park in NM was the 3rd Bing entry.

Funny, I saw the page, and this is what

came up.

Now, if that entry on N.M. is #3, are you seriously using the "including results" line at the beginning?  Anyway, I think, much like Obama, we've managed to kick this can all the way down the road.

I said what I said, the way you chose to interpret was up to you.

You said what you said. And I drew the inference which I believe any reasonable person would draw.  If you say you meant something else, then I'll take your word for it.

webster...

Having now read an ample number of your comments, I know you revel in your closed-mindedness. You don't trouble yourself with anything beyond the most cursory examination of contrarian viewpoints, as it may disrupt the comfortable presuppostions and stereotypical cariacatures which you have carefully formulated with respect to those you consider--not just ideological adversaries--but your actual enemies, and America's enemies as well. God forbid that I am ever afflicted with such shallow, one dimensional, and destructive thinking.

Finally, I hope this doesn't cause you any undue anguish, but as long as I abide by the terms of use promulgated at this website, I'll make the decision regarding my continued presence here. Not you.

"caricatures", there, Jer.

That said, you are an intelligent guy, but it does seem as if  most of your posts, at least to conservatives hereabouts, do stink of liberalism.   :o)

If you could just get off that Scarborough nonsense---

Sorry, I honestly didn't mean it to sound back-handed. I'm in one of those moods where I'm tired of the lowering of the level of discourse and intelligent speech. They "you know"'s, and "like"s are on my nerves right now.

Reading a post with so many multi-syllable words was enjoyable. Not to mention your ability to convey four letter word sentiment without using a single objectionable word, if that was, indeed, your intent.
