Democrats Target New House Republicans for...Sleazy Ethics?

By Tim Graham | July 09, 2011 | 15:45

Stephanie Condon of CBS News reports the Party of Charlie Rangel is attacking freshman Republicans as sleaze-oids: "Democrats are launching a series of robocalls today against six vulnerable House Republicans who have been caught in ethics scandals."

The calls focus on six relatively new GOP members: Reps. Scott Tipton of Colorado, David Rivera of Florida, Frank Guinta of New Hampshire, Charlie Bass of New Hampshire, and Stephen Fincher of Tennessee were all elected in 2010. Rep. Vern Buchanan of Florida came into office in 2007.

"House Republican leaders pledged a zero tolerance policy to ethics problems in their conference, but their answer has been to turn a blind eye, " said Jesse Ferguson of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, the official campaign arm of House Democrats...

Most of the allegations noted in the robocalls surfaced before Election Day 2010, but there have been new developments since then in most cases. For instance, Fincher came under scrutiny in 2010 for allegedly failing to disclose a loan of $250,000 to his campaign, but the Federal Election Commission has since opened an investigation into the charge.

The robocall targeting Guinta focuses on an investigation into his campaign funding, while the call targeting Rivera highlights a series of charges against the congressman, including the accusation he received "secret payments" from his mother's company.

Perhaps CBS could add the story of Rep. Laura Richardson, recently profiled by David Freddoso.

playing for keeps...

Submitted by wizardjr on Sat, 07/09/2011 - 4:22pm.

The Dhimmiroids always play for keeps. Even with the p/o'd public I do not relish the results of the 2012 election. Between the cheating and the lies and the GOP's ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, I am worried.

And for Charlie Rangel to call ANYONE a sleaze-oid?

Submitted by TheHistorian on Sat, 07/09/2011 - 5:20pm.

Besides, you don't understand. In order to get out of the ethics committee, the rules say that at least ONE member of your party needs to vote for the ethics charge. That's why you never say Gerry Studds put up for bopping a male intern in the House. So while these guys may have ethics problems, Nancy P, who spent hundreds of thousands of dollars of taxpayer money for alcohol on her plane, never got voted out on an ethics charge. Remember William "Cold Cash" Jefferson who stayed in the House despite taking a bribe. Dianne Feinstein, who sat on a defense appropriations subcommittee and benefited URS (at the time her husband's company) never got voted out. All are Democrats who were never even brought up on charges. You of the "both parties do it" mentality; can you list a similar list of Republicans for me off the top of your head?

Tell me about sleaze. What is the problem is that there is only one party that is pilloried by the press for it. And it isn't Democrats.

The democrats will stoop so

Submitted by jkwtrading on Sat, 07/09/2011 - 4:23pm.

The democrats will stoop so low eventually we will have to scrape them off the bottom to shovel them out.

I love it as their true colors are on full display.

Lets be realistic

Both parties have elected officials who are under ethics investigations and its fair for the other party to point them out.as long as there is actual evidence..

Well of course it's fair to point them out---

regardless of party affiliation.

What sticks in the craw is the over the top blatant hypocrisy of the Lib-Dims and the fact that when Democrats are in power, little seems to be done in the way of chastising, rebuking, or handing out appropriate punishment to miscreants with a (D) after their oh so august names.

Where do these investigations sit, Jer? Republicans take out their trash for their misbehavior. Almost to a person, you Democrats re-elect your trash. Else why is Charlie still there? And the rest of my list?

Check your Lib-Dim proclivities at the door, Jer,---

Submitted by matthewdean on Sat, 07/09/2011 - 7:57pm.

the fact that your knee jerk liberal activist card requires you to put forth such a list not only does not impress me, the list comes across as carrying more the stench of rodomontade than actual concerns that Dems are equally treated in the courts of law and public opinion, in the media, and as harshly by their own as are Republicans.

Traficant - criminal activity.
Rangel - censured - Oh my God, how horrible.
Jefferson - criminal conduct - stripped of "most important" committee position before charged - You are joking, right?
Massa - 'forced' to resign - Good Lord, how cruel.
Weiner - haw  -  haw  -  haw.

Tim Geitner - taxes, Tom Daschle - same, Feinstein - her husband's business enterprise perks from government contracts, Pelosi - 62% increase in wealth in one year, Hillary Clinton's investment acumen, Chris Dodd, Barney Frank, Marion Barry;  what a lovely list of liberals.

I will give you Dan Rostenkowski - run out of town on a rail because of bone-headed stupidity on his part for borderline criminal misuse of franking privileges and the unmitigated shame of being so dumb as to get caught in the activity.

The Democrats hammer their own?  Why of course they do; most lightly.

The Democrats are the equal of the Republicans in policing their own?

What bullsh*t.

I'd bet that Rangel

Submitted by UpNorth on Sat, 07/09/2011 - 8:13pm.

still hasn't recovered..........from laughing his a$$ off at the stupidity of the House "rules".  His wrist probably still smarts from the slap.

I guess the point was that, of all the criminal conduct engaged in by their members, the D's got on their righteous horse and ran that rotten Trafficant right out of congress.  That showed everyone they were serious, so just ignore those who committed criminal offenses.  You know, like failing to pay taxes, or cheating on taxes, or turning a dollar into a Hundred dollars, overnight.  Or, has been mentioned, boinking male interns in the House.

After all, they got rid of Trafficant, right?

To re-elect Obama would be like the Titanic backing up and hitting the iceberg again.

Gee, I don't know Jer. You think that story might reflect badly on Obama and his administration's ethics? Do you see this important issue being pursued in haste by the same media that would chase down a high-profile conservative 'gaffe' or 'questionable' financing (questionable financing by Dems being utterly ignored or excused)? This is Newsbusters, isn't it?

Most of those scumbags are still heros to the democrats and their lapdogs in the Media. They are victims of the evil Republican brownshirts. Belive me, if they were just real scumbags, they would not be on the public stage as I have seen WJC and Rangel, and soon to be Weiner a hit on current TV.

Submitted by Keith Phillips on Sat, 07/09/2011 - 7:31pm.

This is the reason I would never vote for a RINO. I don't want anyone who wants to get along with these Democrats. I would rather vote for Obama or Clinton and fight them tooth an nail. After all they both really have the same agenda. A RINO would not fight the Democrats and we would be even worse off that we are now.

no republican can ever be

Submitted by ohio granny on Sat, 07/09/2011 - 8:03pm.

No republican can ever be as corrupt as a democrat. Being liars, crooks and cheats is in the DNA of a democrat. You can be absolutely sure that whatever a democrat accuses a republican of doing, the democrats are the ones doing it.

The democrat party is a corrupt, sleazy organization controlled by people that should be in jail. Someday, maybe the stupid people who supports and votes for them will see the light. Hopefully we will still have a country left to defend.

When the thug in the White House is out of office, maybe we can begin to rebuild our country as well as overcome all the harm he has done to our relationships with our allies. Maybe then our friends will be our friends and our enemies will be our enemies. At least one can hope.

The democrat party is never to be supported only defeated.

Since when has it been acceptable to have communist in office? How is that they are not in violation of their Oath of office when they obviously do not believe in the Constitution and hold allegiance to a political system that is out to destroy the USA ?

Um pretty much all democrats are commie socialists

Submitted by gmaniac1 on Sun, 07/10/2011 - 5:28am.

Liberal is nothing more than a watered down version of communism here in the US.

They know what they believe is not acceptable that's why they campaign as being conservative capitalists. Then those cowards get in office and destroy the country for a few years until the American public wises up.

It used to not be that way and everything was an argument over who's the better conservative. Now all we have on the left are treasonous bastards hiding behind the cloak of the American judiciary, public unions, public schools, and rogue government agencies, more specifically the IRS, EPA, and ATF.
