On Al Sharpton Show, Guest Says Herman Cain Shouldn't Bash Obama Like a 'Racist with a Black Face'

By Tim Graham | May 11, 2011 | 08:37

The Al Sharpton radio show always gets even stranger when radical Syracuse professor Boyce Watkins is a guest. (Last year, he suggested Limbaugh listeners and Fox watchers easily become violent.) On Monday, Professor Watkins told Sharpton that Herman Cain should run for president like Colin Powell, and never mind that Powell actually endorsed Obama in 2008. If he's like a Tea Partier, then Cain's a racist:

What I will say though is that I hope he does not make this into a black man’s circus, by basically building votes within the right wing by constantly attacking the President in unfair ways. It’s one thing to say that the President’s policies are inadequate or incorrect, but it’s another thing to start acting like a Tea Partier or one of the birthers in terms of building a campaign on a basis of nonsense.

So, I will respect Herman Cain a lot more if he approaches this election the way say Colin Powell would approach the election. Colin Powell is a Republican and he wouldn’t agree with President Obama on a lot of issues, but he would advocate from a position of love and respect for his constituency, as opposed to simply trying to bash away at another black man and to gain points by being a racist with a black face.

Watkins also told Sharpton that the present level of black unemployment (17 percent) constitutes a "depression." Or as he wrote, "The grave concern with the “stop snitching on Obama” argument is that it tells black Americans that they are politically irrelevant and must rely solely on self-sufficiency to solve their problems, instead of asking the federal government to reinvest their tax dollars to help alleviate the crises that are affecting them."

Bonus wackiness: Professor Watkins complaining that when Pittsburgh Steelers running back Rashard Mendenhall was dropped by Champion athletic products for 9/11 trutherism, he was "not crazy " and "being punished for thinking too much."

My anger is directed towards "O'Really"................

Submitted by Tomorama on Wed, 05/11/2011 - 9:12am.

And yet Bill O'Really allows Sharpton on as if he is some "leader" in this country and any FN thing he says has relevence.

Unlike Sotero, nobody handed Cain a damn thing in life, he earned it.

Unlike Sotero, Cain has and had actual experience running things besides his mouth.

Unlike Sotero, Cain believes in this country and that handouts and gimme crowds are not the way to "rise all boats".

Unlike Sotero, I actually respect the hell out of Cain for all the above and more.

But then again, I am a bigoted Republican who hates Black people.

Submitted by killa37 on Wed, 05/11/2011 - 11:46am.

And unlike Soetoro, Cain is a REAL 'black' man with REAL history in the American 'black' experience...............not some wannabe poser like Soetoro, who has been using his 37.5% African
'black' bloodline as some kind of excuse his whole life for personal gain.

It's ALL about race with these Obama supporters and the white apologists, and they really have to come up with some convoluted theories and arguements when confronted by a 'black' person who is a threat to their poser-in-chief. Cain better get used to being attacked by the MSM and the brainwashed 'black' community, since he has the sense and the independance of thought to express himself in ways that transcend race.

I'd love to see a debate between Cain and Boy Blunder...............the racists would be going crazy, and I think little Barry would be getting schooled in every possible direction - including being able to speak coherently and effectively 'off the cuff' = which is something that Obama is terrible at.

I wondered what the line

Submitted by motherbelt on Wed, 05/11/2011 - 9:16am.

I wondered what the line against Cain would be....well now we know.

I guess he's just a self-loathing black man.  Or, since blacks can't be racist, it's obviously a charge that Cain is not a "real" black man, like our bi-racial president.

The extreme they will go to,  to punish a black man who leaves the plantation, is just jaw-dropping.

This is going to be a really interesting election season. I like Herman Cain and will most likely vote for him ... ATM. It was just a matter of time before the denigration of the man came down. They realize Cain is a contender with solid ideas and an even more solid background of "get er done" mentality and a record to prove it.

So average citizens that are tired of the government breaking Constitutional Law left and right to further erode our Constitutional Rights is based on nonsense. How about caving in to Race Pimps like him and buying him off to shut up, that's not nonsense? The world is upside down these days, and to Progressives, Communists, Socialists, and RACE PIMPS, everything is alright. Unfortunately for them they've now run out of other peoples money to steal and buy votes. The barrel is dry and getting drier....

Al Sharpton feels entitled

Submitted by needle on Wed, 05/11/2011 - 10:13am.

My guess is that Al Sharpton feels entitled to suggest that Herman Cain might be a racist with a black face based on the theory that it takes one (i.e., a black-faced racist) to know one. Unfortunately, I do not think this works in Al’s case because Al is so biased that if there is a fire hydrant where he wants to park, it’s racist; if the phone number he wants to call is busy, it’s racist; if it’s raining, it’s racist; etc.

So when Boyce Watkins uses

Submitted by Beukeboom on Wed, 05/11/2011 - 10:28am.

So when Boyce Watkins uses the phrase "racist with a black face" he is effectively describing himself as it turns out. Very revealing. Of course it describes Sharpton aptly as well.

I remember a former NB commenter whose account was removed (the NB commenter has used multiple accounts and could have a new one even as I type this) who tried to argue that blacks cannot be racist by redefining the term "racism" as certain uber-lib social science professor distorted. He listed several but Watkins wasn't on the list. I wonder how he would react to Watkins' accusation?

Intelectual children

Submitted by c5then on Wed, 05/11/2011 - 11:13am.

They use "racism" as if it is impossible for a certain particular race (blacks) to be racist.

A racist with a black face would perfectly describe those in the "New Black Panther Party". So this premis is absolutely false. As anyone can tel you, anybody, regardless of thier race can be a racist.

What this middle-school intelectual is trying to imply is that any dissent from Obama is racist.

Racism has become a political bludgeon to use to try and turn people's minds away from ideas that the bludgeon wielder would rather they never hear and certainly do not want them to concider.

Stage one of the Cain bashing

Submitted by Tomorama on Wed, 05/11/2011 - 1:46pm.

Folks, these two never done bleep race baiters LIKE many in the media saw and heard of Cain's performance during the debate.

What SCARED the cowards out of them was the Frank Luntz panel AFTER, imagine the majority of white folks in that room LOVED Cain, were impressed with Cain and many would VOTE for Cain.

He IS their biggest fear, a smart, accomplished Conservative man who happens .................. to be African American.

The supposed black soul and voice Sharpton will be the dirty work leader.

I would pay to see Sharpton debate Cain and be exposed for the huckster and charlatan that Sharpton is.
