Daily Mail: Mika Brzezinski Almost Left MSNBC Because She Couldn't 'Make Ends Meet'

By Tim Graham | May 08, 2011 | 18:46

Tim Graham's picture

London's Daily Mail reports "Morning Joe co-host Mika Brzezinski has revealed she almost quit the show after just a year because she was earning far less than her male colleagues. The 44-year-old said she discovered she took home 14 times less than co-host Joe Scarborough - so little she struggled to make ends meet."

Make ends meet? As if Mika Brzezinski lives in a tiny old apartment and eats Ramen noodles? She insisted: "After child care, on-air wardrobe, makeup, travel, and the other ridiculous expenses that women in this business end up taking on, the job was actually costing me more than I was being paid." When Willie Geist asked her why she didn't walk away, she replied simply: "We fixed it." She has a new book out abbout negotiating compensation called Knowing Your Value.

From the silly to the serious: The Daily Mail also reports that 12 have died in Christian-Muslim clashes in Egypt:

Muslim mobs set two churches on fire in Cairo during sectarian clashes that left 12 dead and more than 200 injured last night.

Mobs of ultraconservative Muslims attacked the St. Menas church in the Cairo slum of Imbaba late Saturday following rumors that a Christian woman married to a Muslim man had been abducted....

The report, which was never confirmed by local religious figures, sent a large mob of Muslims toward the St. Menas church. Christians created a human barricade around the church and clashes erupted. Gunfire sounded across the neighborhood, and witnesses said people on rooftops nearby were firing into the crowd.

Muslims alleged the Christians opened fire first. Then crowds of hundreds of Muslims from the neighborhood, in many parts instigated by the local ultraconservative Salafi sheiks, converged on the area. They lobbed firebombs at homes and shops and also at St. Menas church, setting its facade on fire.

Residents say Christians were hiding inside. Muslims were chanting: "With our blood and soul, we defend you Islam."

Poor Mika!

Submitted by Bourbeau on Sun, 05/08/2011 - 7:11pm.

Maybe the next time they deside to write an article such as this, whining about poor Mika's finances, they'll go to the trouble of presenting some real numbers so we can all roll over laughing at this poor, poor MSM talking head. Give me a break; these people are so full of themselves it makes me gag. Perhaps they should talk to some folks who really struggle to make ends meat and see how their lives are, not to mention, who the hell they can talk to about getting it fixed. What a load of crap.

A book to sell.

Submitted by Texndoc on Sun, 05/08/2011 - 7:22pm.

Of course this doesn't tip the "BS" meter like Donny Douche on the show last week saying how "brilliant" the book was. And her replying "and thank you for contributing to it".

She already wrote one book on motherhood, and the reviews on Amazon were nearly universally bad. Her prime advice: hire a nanny and cook. Easy!

Submitted by krendler on Sun, 05/08/2011 - 7:24pm.

"She has a new book out about negotiating compensation called Knowing Your Value."

I'm sure that's going to be a real big seller. We'll see how much people value her opinion based on sales.

Tell me you stole this whole thing from The Onion.

The woman is a complete imbecile. All she does on the show is grunt, nod and furrow her brow while others pontificate - and constantly glance down at the monitor to see if she's on-camera or not. She never has anything of substance to say, other than "Hmmmmmm" (head nod, head nod).

Her actual value is equivalent to the lady dishing out sloppy joes at a grade school cafeteria.

Cajun is confused again*

Submitted by cajun2 on Sun, 05/08/2011 - 7:34pm.

Liberals have such a different view of the world than the rest of us. Most people live within their means, or a life style equal to their wages. This one had a life style that she was living and negotiated for wages to support that life style. Somewhat related to delusions of grandeur while they decide how we should live our lives.  I am so confused, where did these people come up with this backward sense of worth?

Forget about the barn, get the boat ready*

Submitted by cajun2 on Sun, 05/08/2011 - 8:14pm.

I have to drive to the North Shore on Tuesday for my grandsons graduation. Getting a little nervous since they will be opening the Bonne Carre spillway on Monday and oh my, they will open the Morganza on Thursday. If they do that, nothing can save those people in Morgan City. They will see the same problems they had in '73. My prayers are for them and a short but temporary drought...;-)

Remember, this rocket

Submitted by Rusty Shackleford on Sun, 05/08/2011 - 8:25pm.

Remember, this rocket scientist thinks that Abe Lincoln is her favorite Founding Father. Maybe the people at MSNBC were smart enough to write her salary complete with the decimal (i.e. $20,000.00 instead of $20,000) so she thought she was getting some 7 digit figure salary. She'd be dumb enough to fall for it too.

(Jimmy Carter cabinet member) she blames sexism because she didn't make alot of money in the media. Hey Bubbles, maybe you didn't make alot of money is because you laugh at the sight of Dick Cheney gasping for air. But if someone criticizes Obama, you play racism. Mike, you are really making an ass out of yourself. Yet again, there are alot of jackasses on MSNBC.

I figured she was trying to

Submitted by amyshulk on Sun, 05/08/2011 - 10:33pm.

I figured she was trying to catch the Tea Party wave with her new book, seeing as most everyone is yelling at the top of their lungs they feel they've been devalued and dismissed by the pols and we want REAL change!!!

But no, it's just another way to bolster the liberal myth about women being paid so much less than men, when the stats were arrived at by comparing apples and oranges.

Do I think *some* employees are exploited by *some* employers? No clue. Never happened to me that I know of, nor to anyone I know. It's like the racism charge - "Well sure, ther are ALWAYS going to be racists" Really??? Again, No clue. NO personal experience with it, but my liberal {VERY} regales me with "a friend of a friend" stories whenever I see her, so it's true to her.

Can't wait to read the book...........

Submitted by Herbster on Mon, 05/09/2011 - 12:11am.

Wow! A book on how to negotiate written by Mika the Moron. I understand it was ghost written by The Cookie Monster. I can just imagine her negotiating tactics.....go into boss.....demand raise......he refuses....say "O.K."
and hit the MSNBC cafeteria for a crow sandwich on rye! I understand when she was having $$ troubles in her present job she went to the nearest McDonald's for an interview. They turned her down. She couldn't remember to say, "Do you want frioes with that?" However, I feel very sorry for her financial situation. I assume she is now on food stamps, rental assistance, medicaid, etc. We are put on this earth to help the disadvantaged and the downtrodden, so I sent her a check for $5.00. Good for a Big Mac, fries and a drink. NO MIka. Not THAT kind of a drink!

This woman has never heard the old saying...."It's better to keep your mouth shut and let people think you are a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt." Call me Mika, and I'll explain to you what this means.

Equal Pay for Equal Work

Submitted by Kingfish17 on Mon, 05/09/2011 - 8:06am.

She should get the same pay as Joe.  They both sit there for the same amount of time and they both "work" the same, right?  That's how it's done in all jobs.  A great example is baseball.  If a ballplayer shows up for the game and plays in the game he makes the same amount of money as everybody else, no?

Equal "Work" has nothing to do with production!

Disgusting

Submitted by Thunder Lizard on Mon, 05/09/2011 - 10:55am.

When big money media celebrities cry about experiencing hardship because of travel and wardrobe expenses, childcare, etc., I want to throw up. They are pandering and trying to look like "regular folks" when they are far from it. Try working part-time at McDonalds, Jiffy Lube or WalMart to supplement your income Mika, like so many people are having to do. I've seen people with incomes under $30,000/year working two or three jobs to try and make ends meet, loosing their homes, etc and none of it was their fault.. Sheesh.

Joe has a brain
Joe is articulate
Joe can walk and chew gum at the same time

See any difference there?

Mika is paid for being a semi attractive aging blond who leans left but in only capable of reading talking points she gets from the DNC.

If she things she is underpaid, she should check out what she might make at the local Rapid City South Dakota NBC outlet doing the news.
