Al Gore Tells Time Magazine Global Warming Skeptics Just As Dim As Birthers

By Tim Graham | May 02, 2011 | 22:49

Former vice president Al Gore is as eager as your average liberal on the street in wanting to explore resistance to the persuasiveness of global warming theories. The first problem? If conservatives are so thick in the head, why does the rest of the public need pictures, not just mere words?

In a supportive interview with Bryan Walsh in Time magazine, Gore explained "Years ago I shifted from making speeches about climate to presenting slideshows precisely because the complexity of the material makes it easier to communicate with pictures. Interactive infographics make it easier still." Then came time for "Science," and typically, Gore suggested his opponents are opposed to science, and to truth, just like the "birthers" who don't accept evidence:

TIME: Has the case been conclusively made now on the science of climate change?

GORE: Well, I thought the case was made that Obama was born in the United States...

TIME: That's interesting — you wrote in the 2007 book The Assault on Reason about the increasingly post-truth nature of politics. Is there a way to deal with this on the climate question? Fight it with more facts?

GORE: Buy the app! As Theodore Adorno said, "the conversion of all questions of truth to questions of power has attacked the very heart of the distinction between true and false."

I thought the [birther] issue was receding when I wrote this introduction, but it's a clear example of what's going on. It so closely resembles the willful refusal of climate skeptics to accept the truth of the climate crisis. It's like the Moynihan quote: "Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but not their own facts." For me the [climate change] case was made a long time ago. But the political chapter contains one of the most startling facts about this. [He shows an illustration indicating that 19% of college-educated Republicans believe in climate change, compared to 75% of college-educated Democrats.] That difference is astonishing, and it also echoes the birther controversy.

TIME: Has this polarization always been this case?

GORE: No it hasn't.

Gore can't acknowledge that the question of global warming isn't just about "questions of truth," but about questions of power. Democrats believe in climate change in part because the prospect of an environmental catastrophe offers a rationale to employ government power to overhaul our entire energy system. College-educated Republicans don't agree for scientific and political reasons. Just like Newsweek, Time didn't inform the reader that Gore is citing in Adorno a Marxist of the Frankfurt school. Adorno's speaking of the Nazis, and Gore thinks the comparison to conservatives is close enough.

THERE IS NO "CLIMATE CRISIS"!

Submitted by Phryj1 on Mon, 05/02/2011 - 11:07pm.

Gore's the one who wants to ignore the science. When you dismiss facts that don't line up with your worldview and only accept info that supports your preconceived notions, that's confirmation bias. That's what Gore has been doing ever since scientists came forward and started questioning AGW dogma. In fact, the IPCC models themselves were built on confirmation bias. AGW has been BS all along.

Progressives seem to be completely averse to facts and logic. Apparently, reality has a conservative bias.

Do ever wonder why no one in

Submitted by jdhawk on Mon, 05/02/2011 - 11:20pm.

Do ever wonder why no one in the lamestream media every actually asks AlBore questions sorrounding the science? Isn't it curious that AlBore has never agreed to debate someone that actually understands the science even though he has been given ample opportunity. Isn't it curious that everytime he gives a speech on the subject, it is closed doors - skeptics not allowed.

By the way, the other day I opened a Cracker Jack box and the "prize" was something called Nobel. Did I get a Nobel prize? AlBore and duhbama each got one and it is worth the equivalnet of what I got out of box of caramel coated popcorn.

That's why the AGW BS artists started calling it Climate Change

Submitted by Phryj1 on Tue, 05/03/2011 - 12:16am.

Of course, don't expect them to ever actually explain how REDUCING greenhouse gases, like they're trying to force us to do, is going to help us if we're going into a cooling cycle. Or how man-made greenhouse gases are causing that cooling, especially after they've been telling us they supposedly caused 'catastrophic' levels of warming.

When you look at the facts, man-made climate change theory just falls apart. It's just natural fluctuations in climate, just like there always has been, and always will be.

Progressives seem to be completely averse to facts and logic. Apparently, reality has a conservative bias.

Who was dim? It was Barack

Submitted by dscott on Tue, 05/03/2011 - 1:17am.

Who was dim? It was Barack Obama who got suckered by team Clinton. They sussed out Obama's paranoia about his personal information and used it against him. ONLY a dimwhit would obstinately fight for over 2 years spending millions to prevent the release of information that was in no way derogatory.

Interestingly enough just like Obama being less than transparent about the facts, it took Climategate to force even a marginal incomplete review of the methods used by Mann and others colluding to prevent scientists from reviewing the raw data much less submitting papers for peer review which ran counter to their belief system. Science got a major black eye from the ethical lapses of Mann and Jones.

So yes, there is an equivalence between the obsessively secretive Obama over his birth certificate and AGW hoaxers. Of course Gore the Carbon Credit Billionaire has absolutely no conflict of interest in putting down those who refute and otherwise disbelieve AGW? Time FAILS to PUT THE DISCLAIMER that Al Gore has a vested financial interest in advocating AGW, I call that a major ethical lapse on their part. More crappy, incomplete journalism that is more propaganda and snide opinion foisting itself as snobbish ubergenius.

“Peekaboo ocean view” means you can see the ocean if you stand on a chair and look out the kitchen window.

“Ocean view” means you can see a patch of blue without standing on the chair.

“Oceanfront” means there are actual waves lapping at your back door.

Gore's absurd comparisons

Submitted by Boil It Down on Tue, 05/03/2011 - 7:06am.

To my knowledge, Al Gore has never actually addressed the real opposition to his climate cult. The "deniers" he avoids acknowledgement are those who deny the premise that spending untold billions on questionable science can achieve any measurable difference in climate change. Gore distracts attention from those arguments with silly comparisons like this birther thing to steer clear of answering the questions of how all that money would "fix" the climate.

Essentially, Gore admits that his climate change arguments have little merit with these false comparisons and diversionary tactics.

There is no way I can imagine anyone convincing me that jeopardizing the economies around the world is necessary to support Gore's climate cult. I ain't buyin' it Mr. Flim-Flam Man. -bidn-

The scientific method states

Submitted by Richard_Iowa on Tue, 05/03/2011 - 10:00am.

The scientific method states that a hypothesis can never be proven, but can only be disproven. It is the job of the scientist to continually test the hypothesis and if it is ever disproven then the hypothesis must be discarded. A good example is the hypothesis that CO2 levels are responsible for global warming. It has been determined that CO2 levels have risen over the past 15 years from roughly 360 ppm to 385 ppm. But, there have been no statistically significant increases in global temperatures during those same 15 years. I suppose that it is convenient that Mr. Gore has ignored these observations. But, if one adheres to the scientific method then the hypothesis that CO2 causes increases in temperatures must be discarded. BTW, I wonder if 'Ol Al is aware that scientists are still trying to disprove Einstein's theories? Apparently that science is not settled.

My pal Al

Submitted by deadeyedan on Tue, 05/03/2011 - 5:35pm.

Don't worry, everyone, global warming does cause cooling - well, only if it's "extreme" and George Bush is to blame. That's exactly what Al said during a presentation of his Powerpoint presentation to a New York City audience before it became the docu-melodrama An Inconvenient Truth. It was January 15, 2004 and he had selected a theater in Manhattan on what turned out to be the coldest day in NYC since 1957 and the fourth coldest winter in New England history.

He explained that there was so much warming going on in the tropics that air was rising there on such a scale that it was forming a partial vacuum that was allowing all that cold air up north to rush down to fill the void!

This has happened on every flat, non-rotating planet I've ever studied. And I work at the planetarium theater named for the last astronaut to walk on the moon, the Cernan Earth & Space Center. He then went on to explain that because George Bush was doing nothing to stop global warming, that all that cold they were experiencing that day was an extreme, that it must have been his fault. George Bush was responsible for extremes of weather of every sort. And the audience cheered.

No matter, though, even if because we're on a round, rotating planet that what he described could not possibly happen - unless, of course, the earth's interior was a million degrees. (I forget - when he said that did he mean Fahrenheit or Celsius?) Anyone ever hear of Coriolis Effect?

Glib, self righteous bunk is the small aleck remark Gore again drives home the point. Oh, no our famed and annointed Al Gore won't debate actual world climate scientists. Heck no. You just might have to answer questions. And for how many years now has this class act hidden away and not answered any question concerning Climate Change. You couldn't get him to shut up when his hey days were blowing. Gore was in schools, Gore was on TV, Gore was on MSNBC. Gore was pretty well everyplace telling us all about Climate Change and we were all doomed.

Well, the bottom fell out of the story line, his media teams have basically told him to shut up, and don't answer questions. But time is rolling on, and the questions are still there and Gore is waiting it out to hide his lies. They sold a lot of snake oil stuff to young kids in schools, cheated on all types of grants. Built a news journalism slant that networks poured hundreds of billions of dollars in to sell Climate Change to the masses, but the masses found out it was a scam before the big payoff came Al Gore's way.
