Seattle School Renames Easter Eggs as 'Spring Spheres'

Seattle, Washington sounds like a town competing for the most ACLU-friendly city in America. A public school teacher there told a teenage volunteer she could hand out Easter eggs with candy....as long as she called them "Spring Spheres."

Jessica, 16, told KIRO Radio's Dori Monson Show that a week before spring break, the students commit to a week-long community service project. She decided to volunteer in a third grade class at a public school, which she would like to remain nameless.

"At the end of the week I had an idea to fill little plastic eggs with treats and jelly beans and other candy, but I was kind of unsure how the teacher would feel about that," Jessica said. She was concerned how the teacher might react to the eggs after of a meeting earlier in the week where she learned about "their abstract behavior rules."

"I went to the teacher to get her approval and she wanted to ask the administration to see if it was okay," Jessica explained. "She said that I could do it as long as I called this treat 'spring spheres.' I couldn't call them Easter eggs."

Rather than question the decision, Jessica opted to "roll with it." But the third graders had other ideas.

"When I took them out of the bag, the teacher said, 'Oh look, spring spheres' and all the kids were like 'Wow, Easter eggs.' So they knew," Jessica said.

The Seattle elementary school isn't the only government organization using spring over Easter. The city's parks department has removed Easter from all of its advertised egg hunts.

How long will it be before liberal presidents bow to PC and rename the White House Easter Egg Roll?

How PC

Submitted by jon_torlin on Sat, 04/09/2011 - 3:45pm.

Ah yes, Seattle, Washington, the place for people too weird for California....at least that was once upon a time true.

This is a damn crying shame that it's come to this, 30-40 years ago, we weren't afraid to say Christmas or Easter or anything like that.  In the (paraphrased)immortal words of Walter, old man puppet of Jeff Dunham, "Screw you, it's Easter!"

I don't know if where I work is going to get that PC, but I don't care, I'm gonna bring some Easter related treats, not Spring related, EASTER.

Ugh, I hate PC.

It's bad enough when Christmas is targeted...

Submitted by Mary Louise Turner on Sat, 04/09/2011 - 4:04pm.

It's bad enough when Christmas is the target, but now the PC Police are going after the principal celebration of the Christian year. The schools are so afraid of offending atheists, Muslims, Wiccans, etc., that they're all too willing to throw Christians (and Catholics in particular) under the bus. If any Christian complains, they're blasted as being censors and worse. This is simply ridiculous, ladies and gentlemen.

Oh for cripes sake...The big sin here is...

Submitted by PrairieSky on Sat, 04/09/2011 - 4:31pm.

that the eggs are Easter eggs...The "Easter Bunny" concept and everything that goes with it is non-religious, but for the insane libnut, pc loons, the word "Easter" just causes their fat heads to explode.

Really, they couldn't just call them Spring Eggs???

Submitted by motherbelt on Sat, 04/09/2011 - 7:20pm.

This is what drives me nuts, Sky!

Liberals invent ways to celebrate religious holidays without the religion, and then ban those too!

And these same schools are probably teaching the kiddos about Ramadan!

"Spring Eggs"....

Submitted by PrairieSky on Sat, 04/09/2011 - 9:16pm.

I guess this would be an okay alternative, maybe, but what then would the Easter Bunny become? The "Spring Bunny"? Would kids then have a "Spring Egg Roll"?

This whole thing is asinine and absurd in the extreme...Somewhere, somebody has to have the intestinal fortitude to say enough already with this pc bs. I suppose we shouldn't be too surprised at this, though. The anti-religion loons (meaning anti-Christian and anti-Jewish), have been after all things religious as far as holidays are concerned for years, in particular Christmas, so the fact that these idiots are now really targeting Easter shouldn't come as a shock. These types won't be happy until and unless any reference to anything remotely religious is completely done away with in the public realm, with Islam as the exception, of course...Heaven forbid that we dare do anything that may in any way shape or form ever possibly offend Muslims. What a load of bs this all is.

Yummy...

Submitted by PrairieSky on Sat, 04/09/2011 - 11:42pm.

Spring Rolls are delish...I had them for the first time when I lived in Okinawa, Japan, as a teenager. After we discovered them, my mom would make them from time to time, and after I was married, I began making them too.

As for the big "Easter Egg" versus "Spring Egg/Spring Sphere" controversy, you're right...STOOPID is the only word that describes it, and the pc twits who are pushing this bit of  insanity.

God bless the little children!

Sounds like the kids in Seattle have more sense than the school teacher in that town.

Spheres? Gimme a break. They're eggs, or technically, ovoids.

"Children, the Earth is a sphere."
"You mean, it's kind of pointy on one end? Which end?"
"No, not pointy. It's a sphere, like a basketball."
"But the Spring Spheres we played with when we couldn't call it Easter were pointy on one end."
"Actually, they were really egg-shaped. I just called them 'spheres' to keep from offending very sensitive people who aren't actually in the classroom but find out about everything."
"Like God?"
"Oh, no. I mean Liberals. And don't forget, we don't say the G-word in school."

Is ovoid the proper name for the shape? I think we should investigate it and see if ther is an easier name, you know like eggs. They have the shape of an egg. This teacher should be fired for incompetence.

It's not the Teacher's Unions

Submitted by ThisnThat on Sun, 04/10/2011 - 9:26pm.

Everyone has focused on the insane Teachers' Unions, and have given all the "hard-working teachers" a pass all this time.

But I tell you what -- for years, I've seen these individual teachers and school administrations move aggressively to the left, and willfully impose their ideology on our kids. I'm not willing at all to give teachers a break -- I think most of them -- yes, most -- are entrenched in the PC crap camp and want to socially engineer our children to the most extreme philosophy that the left supports. This incident is just a tiny example of what's happening all over our land -- and there is no "bad Union -- good teacher" split on this at all..
