Daily Kos: The American Dream Is a Virus Like AIDS, and Rick Perry is Satan

By Tim Graham | November 14, 2010 | 08:35

Tim Graham's picture

How much do the bloggers of the Daily Kos hate conservatism and the limited-government ideas that informed America's founding? They associate them with Satan...and with disease. Blogger Kevin Tully is really angry about the election returns and wondered if  "all of us, [are] being played like one huge, oxygen starved, exhausted, gullible fish?  Is the destruction of the environment and civil society absolutely necessary to maintain the "American Dream?" He suggested on Thursday that the American Dream is a deadly disease we spread globally:

The “American Dream” is a worldwide viral phenomenon - with many more potentially dire consequences than AIDS or Avian Flu. We have exported this thing from one end of the earth to the other – it’s like the gifted puppy that can never be housetrained, it grows up, still, so cute and familiar – your proud of your gift, it craps on the floor and tears down the curtains – it’s [sic] new owners overlook the crap; the dog is so cute – however, you can’t get over the crap and torn curtains when you visit.

This past weeks [sic] election was a referendum on the puppy. The rhetoric and the outcome were very predictable: The folks that are still very proud of the puppy were very persuasive and voted, most of us other folks – stayed home.

Just before this thought, Tully suggested we've apparently surrendered our autonomy to Sam's Club and the NFL:

We are dumber than stinken sticks! When and why did we give over our personal power to Sam’s Club and The National Football League? Why do we refuse to take personal responsibility for shopping at Wal-Mart and building a MacMansion? – Sophocles waxed prophetic on the subject: “It is a painful thing to look at your own trouble and know that you yourself and no one else has made it”.

On Monday, the blogger Louise (one name, like Madonna) had a vision: "Tonight, I saw Lucifer on The Daily Show." Satan was Texas Gov. Rick Perry, and he had "perfect plastic hair, glaringly-white teeth in a static smile, a bespoke sharkskin suit, and a smooth, fast patter."  He had turned Texas into a [free-market] Hell. "What I am calling 'Hell,' Rick Perry describes as a paradise. It is a paradise for plutocrats."

In summation, Perry made his final sales pitch to explain why Texas, as he governed it, was a Plutocrat's dream. It had low taxes, "fair" environmental laws, a legal system that was also attractive to business, and some other things that I have forgotten because I was so stunned by his final sales point: " a school system that puts out a skilled worker."

That's Texas. A whore for business, a land that doesn't value its land, and a factory that produces docile, biddable servants that can read, write, do basic mathematics and follow directions. It "puts out" "skilled workers."

This, apparently, is the most tantalizing morsel to Plutocrats of all. The fantasy of being able to rule over Workers who look like the masses in German Expressionist films, or curtsying parlor maids. The employees can have the basic skillsets; they are capable of handling variety of tasks; they know their place and don't make trouble. They are the Worker Ants.

After she published her Perry-as-Satan theory, Louise felt she needed to clarify in an update:

Perhaps it seems like a stretch to call a mere mortal Lucifer, but his creepy persona and relentless boosterism of a place that sounded like Hell brought the analogy to mind. Certainly Lucifer could ventriloquize through an apparently dull-witted salesman to make a plutocracy of environmental degradation and state-sanctioned greed sound attractive.

They have their own version of the American dream

Submitted by motherbelt on Sun, 11/14/2010 - 9:18am.

And it's a socialist Utopia.  (if that isn't an oxymoron, I don't know what is!)

These people don't just hate the "American dream,"  they hate America. They hate the fact that some people can work harder and therefore do better than others.

They don't realize that THEIR America is the one that keeps people down, and sees the unwashed masses as "worker ants" who need to be taken care of by their "betters."

Our current president is of that ilk.  Don't forget that when the health care reform bill was signed, he hailed it as  "another stone laid in the foundation of the American dream."

In his mind, after 234 years, he is just now laying the foundation of the American dream.  What we had before was nothing.  Bupkis.

Yah, you know, skilled workers who actually produce a product or service that someone needs and they get paid for their work. Very complicated I know but we all can't make a living sitting in a tree writing poetry all day. Liberals really are quite disturbed.

That's OK with them as long as they get to decide who will be the workers, and who will be the rulers.  See my comment below.

Does Daily Kos pay Tully for this garbage?

Submitted by American Delight on Sun, 11/14/2010 - 9:24am.

OK, he's a Daily Kos blogger, but what is Kevin Tully exact status with them?  Is he an occasional contributor or a regular author?  He sounds very immature, and not like that great of a writer either.

I hope they are paying for it.  The more Liberals waste their money on that garbage, the less they have to spend on elections.

Louise Should Know...

Submitted by GeneralAl on Sun, 11/14/2010 - 9:25am.

Louise should know!  "For such people are false apostles, deceitful workers, masquerading as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. It is not surprising, then, if his servants also masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve."2 Cor 11:13-15 {NIV}

The only difference here is Satan resides in the White House and his masquerading angels, in addition to his fellow Liberal Communist politicians, hang at the Daily Kos and and all the rest of the nut job media establishment!

The ignorance is jaw-dropping.

Submitted by motherbelt on Sun, 11/14/2010 - 9:46am.

Tully and the Kos kids that agree with him are not only arrogant, they are ignorant.

Apparently they are  unaware that it was  LIBERALS who came up with "outcome-based education" and the "school-to-work" model, starting in Kindergarten!!

THEY will decide who will be a ditch-digger or a plumber and who will be an architect or a lawyer.

So just WHO is it that is trying to train an army of worker ants to be ruled over by plutocrats?

Tired

Submitted by okiehawk44 on Sun, 11/14/2010 - 9:49am.

I'm tired of those who like Obama decry the notion of American Exceptionalism because they want to be #28 or #128 in the world.

I don't want to have an 8-8 season or a 9-7 season every year.

My ancestors worked too hard and sacrificed too much to make this a great nation to which many millions still want to come.

If you want to be just another country in the new world order or the new globalism or the world's restructured Democrat pecking order -- go somewhere else and leave us try to have a better country year after year after year while you spout crap about some perfect country out there that was created by you out of words beautifully delivered words always just with words and butterfly wings and ...

ENOUGH apologizing to an uncaring world Obama and Democrats I want to be #1!

Leftists always shoot their

Submitted by ant on Sun, 11/14/2010 - 10:16am.

Leftists always shoot their own beliefs in the foot everytime they go on a rant. To bemoan the idea of worker ants while belonging to the  socialists workers party and embracing the idea of an illegal alien low-skilled  worker under-class? I also have to assume these Kos-heads are antagonistic to the idea of God but have no problem with the idea that Lucifer is going around promoting smaller government.

That sound you hear coming

Submitted by sam12663 on Sun, 11/14/2010 - 10:34am.

from the likes of Daily Kos and Huff Puff Post is the death rattle of liberalism.

The blind spot these people have is utterly amazing. In reality, liberalism is the actual 'disease'. For proof, simply look to all of the cities and states lead by Democrats over the past 40 years, this is were the real decay is.

Detroit; Milwaukee; Philadelphia Newark NJ; Cincinnati; St. Louis Mo; Buffalo; Cleveland; Miami Fl; El Paso.

New York; California; Ohio; Michigan.... It goes on.

The election and policy agenda of Barack Obama has shaken the American people from their 'me first' mentality trance, and now that our collective eyes are wide open,  America has finally come to the realization that LIBERALISM DOES NOT WORK!

Let us pray we stay alert.

Liberals lie, it's what they do.

Im not sure why these lefties

Submitted by hoosherdaddy137 on Sun, 11/14/2010 - 10:41am.

Im not sure why these lefties think people are just incapable success. When I hear about a school system that produces skilled workers, I imagine free market expansion, skilled workers mean a strong economy, and also mean more new businesses. And that drives technology to create more effecient and inexpensive ways to do business in order to stay competitive. There is nothing at all bad with producing skilled workers, unless you think its bad because the ignorant are much easier to herd.

The demographics of Daily Kos

Submitted by celator on Sun, 11/14/2010 - 10:58am.

The demographics of Daily Kos site visitors are pretty interesting. You'd expect the site to pull  in college students, and they do, but not overwhelmingly so. The big surprise is that the typical Kos site visitor is a male, over 65 with no kids. Kos loses the 25-44 age demographic, which is surprising, again. Women are underrepresented in their audience.

So Kos's biggest fans are aging males, 65 and over, with no kids. Weird. I wonder if they are old hippies with fried brains, living in a shack DOWN BY THE RIVER?

Louise, honey,

Submitted by TexasMom0517 on Sun, 11/14/2010 - 1:35pm.

Just stay wherever you are, Louise, and I'll live happily here in Texas!  By all means, YOU go ahead and pay state income taxes, we don't.  When Bush and our legislature passed tort reform, we found that our state licensening agency had a waiting list of doctors who immediately wanted to start practicing in Texas.  Lots of Fortune 500 companies have moved to Texas, giving OUR residents well-paying jobs.  I was recently surprised to find that Fluor Corporation had moved to the Dallas/Ft. Worth area after being founded in CA.  Hmm, wonder why???

Sure, we'd love to have California's coastline, redwood forests, and vineyards, but that's geography (or the act of Creation, if you will).  However, we do have Big Bend, the Hill Country, the Gulf Coast, etc.

So, Louise, honey, you just stay where you are and we'll keep our God, our guns, and our religion.  I suspect that we can get along just fine without you!

Disney Land Is For Kids

Submitted by rammingspeed on Sun, 11/14/2010 - 2:07pm.

These two kids are more examples of the child abuse that goes on in our educational system  - whether at "schools" or from home environments, where unreconstructed hippies still roam - and the literal insanity that ensues. Tully and Louise, you've been poisoned by a sophist scheme, promulgated by Saul Alinsky style activists who believe in the Utopia described by Karl Marx and his followers. In short, Utopia equals Disney Land. It isn't real, and only children who haven't bee exposed to reality believe that it is.

"... grows up, still, so cute and familiar – your [sic] proud of your gift...."   Should be the contraction 'you're' as in 'you are proud...."   I guess if one is going to hold themselves up as part of the oh-so-enlightened-ones as the blogger Tully likely does, it would behoove one at least to write competently.     edit Just to be clear, I am pointing out Tully's error, not Tim's in overlooking it!

While I think it could have been rephrased (my recollection is that the purpose of Public Education is to put out citizens who can vote intelligently) - how horrible!
