U.S. Chamber of 'Terror Companies'?

By Tim Graham | October 15, 2010 | 13:55

Wednesday's wacky edition of the Stephanie Miller show spread the noxious idea that somehow the Chamber of Commerce was comparable to "terror companies" -- or that's what Fox News would call them, because they're apparently well-known smear artists. The charge came from leftist columnist and Media Matters staffer Karl Frisch, as Miller begged him to share his latest column full of liberal blather following up on the panic caused by the Think Progress blog:

If Fox News were covering this story -- but let’s face it, they’re not going to cause they gave a million dollars to the Chamber of Commerce -- we’d be calling these terror companies. We’d be talking about you know how awful it is that the U.S. Chamber of Commerce has an office in New York City just 3.5 miles from Ground Zero. You know, we wouldn’t hear the end of it. But because it is the Chamber of Commerce and because Rupert Murdoch and News Corp., the parent company of Fox News, put a million bucks into it. You don’t hear much about it. You certainly don’t hear what you should be hearing about it. They’ll host executives from the Chamber to defend the Chamber with softball questions, but no real journalism going on there.

Would this figment of Fox News really call someone a "terror company" if it had business interests in Egypt or Saudi Arabia? Was Frisch just getting angrier on the radio and saying wackier things that he would say in calmer company? Nope. He's basically re-reading his column on the air:

Imagine for a moment if a group like the right-wing reviled though now defunct community group ACORN had been caught receiving money from Middle Eastern corporations in Egypt and Saudi Arabia. Fox News would run the story day and night while tea party heads the nation over exploded. Heck, if Fox News actually covered this story like it has others, it wouldn’t even be calling these businesses “foreign corporations,” instead they would be called “terror companies” and we would be seeing segments asking why the Chamber has an office just 3.5 miles from ground zero. How insensitive.

The Chamber was not timid in responding to Think Progress, asserting in a statement that "The entire storyline is fallacious and indicates the sad state of journalism. Today, 'Think Progress,' or anyone else with an axe to grind, can create stories out of whole cloth that are then legitimized by the traditional media."

Interesting story last night

Submitted by Guttermouth's Return on Fri, 10/15/2010 - 2:55pm.

Interesting story last night about the Chamber of Commerce, and their sleazy attacks funded by overseas companies working collectively (with the CoC) to outsource US jobs.

Pretty pathetic ADK, maybe you need some perspective

Submitted by Boudin on Fri, 10/15/2010 - 5:16pm.

Do you really think the USCC is completely Right wing, how about the NRA? If these guys have their way, Pelosi and Read will still be pulling Obama's strings.

What? You didnt know this? Wow, I am shocked.

They went slightly off of the dim plantation, and now the dimwits are using their muscle to make sure it doesn't happen again. But of course, your all for intimidation and threats, as long as there aimed in the Right direction, right?

He's right

ADK just should know better to link to the AFLCIO's site. Granted I could post every document leading to the conclusion that the CoC is taking foreign dues into the same 501(c)(6) they use to fund anti-democrat attack ads and you'd still call it some liberal media conspiracy.

Wow Mestilf

You just put forth as many facts as the article ADK presented to all of us. With an intellect like yours, I am shocked you can type.

I guess making the accusation, is now the same as being guilty of it? Jeez Leweez

When you were, and are, gc (grandly correct), it is neither necessary nor required to address the issues, unless you choose to do so in order to rile the house libs.  ;^)

Interesting phrase---

Submitted by matthewdean on Fri, 10/15/2010 - 4:26pm.

1. sleazy attack - (as interpreted by a liberal) - any combination of words, in any format, used to hurl invective at the patriotic politicos of the Democratic Party, or their minions, in a partisan attempt to cast aspersions on their deliberative actions for the furtherance of truth, justice, and the American Way.

2. sleazy attack - (as seen by a conservative) - 99% of any and all messages emanating from the media that reference a candidate for office that is not a card carrying liberal Democrat.

The Truth Fairy opts for definition two.

The Tooth Fairy opts for definition one.

Is that in response to the news that the Chamber of Commerce is actively taking donations from solicitors who are working in conjunction with the Chamber to send US jobs overseas?

Tell me, how do you feel about this news?

You're right, Matthew...

It was a well-articulated, scrupulously crafted attack on American workers by the COC.

I stand corrected---

Submitted by matthewdean on Fri, 10/15/2010 - 4:57pm.

There are two Tooth Fairies.

Both responded to my post.

Both imagine themselves to be scrutineers.

They are both wrong, as they perceive life through liberal colored lenses.

Here's a hint, Matthew...

Here's a hint, Matthew:

Just as does the job description of every Tooth Fairy, it involves "hope" and "change".

am I reading that as an admission that the disaster that has been embodied by Obamas "Hope and Change" BS must be refudiated by even staunch libs?

Of course not, silly...

It simply means I'll be leaving you one of my several thousand spare copies of "The Audacity of Hope" and 25 cents, which is all of the spare "change" I can afford.  Times are tough.

Excellent, Jer---

Seeing as how times are indeed, financially tough, the individual pages of the copies of Obamas narcissistic screed will substitute nicely, and cheaply, in place of toilet paper.

Your kindness will not be obliterated.

Obamas phony BS and countenance, happily, will be.
