Ken Shepherd and Colleen Raezler both noted the liberal-media loathing for a conservative Bible project last month. In noting conservative Rod Dreher's beard-plucking loathing for the "American Patriot's Bible" on The Corner, Mike Potemra suggested that if the patriot Bible would offend liberals, one can only imagine the pain a conservative would find at this Christmas gift, made available on October 27: The Lincoln/Obama Inaugural Bible Collection.
Somehow, I doubt liberal reporters like Amy Sullivan at Time will have a discouraging word about this project.
For 100 dollars (alright, $63 with generous Amazon discounting), the publisher Andrews McMeel gives a Bible-toting Christian everything one would want to revere Obama's swearing-in:
The Lincoln/Obama Inaugural Bible Collection commemorates the significance of January 20, 2009, the day that President Barack Obama was inaugurated, using the Lincoln Bible to take the presidential oath of office. Bridging the historic nature of both President Abraham Lincoln's and President Obama's inaugurations, this collection is a stunning keepsake that pays tribute to both men and the office of the U.S. president.
In addition to a velvet-covered Bible with a gold clasp that's said to be a replica of the Good Book Lincoln used for his inauguration in 1861, the clamshell box also includes:
* A 2009 Inauguration Packet, including the official congressional invitation complete with photographs of the president and vice president, the official Inauguration Program, and the St. John's Prayer Service Program, which was held the morning of the inauguration.
* A 72-page booklet with Lincoln and Obama photos, memorabilia, historical facts, and observations, including President Lincoln's 1861 inaugural address and his Cooper Union address. Also in the booklet are President Obama's complete inaugural address and highlights from his speech on race in Philadelphia during the campaign. [Why not include the Jeremiah Wright sermons that inspired that??]
* A booklet with a facsimile of the original Emancipation Proclamation and other versions published at the time.
Amazon has a video lovingly displaying the contents like a quiet version of The Price is Right showcase. It's not exactly flying off the shelves.
Andrews McMeel, a corporate partner of the Universal Press Syndicate, is best known in the book world for publishing book-length collections of Universal comic strips. The book in this project is not comical, but some might think all the packaging is. We'll wait for the Time magazine verdict.

Thank the heavenly father for Obama
I am a non-racist conservative!
November 16, 2009 - 00:32 ET by beauxdogYou are a jerk for implying his comment was racial.
His comment was superb sarcasm because Obama in my opinion, regardless of his words, has demonstrated through actions that he is not a Christian. In fact, his actions lend a lot of credence to some people's assertion that he is a Muslim. My personal opinion is that he is an atheist of Muslim culture.
Regardless, the comments were irreverant on a religious basis, not racial.

Abraham Lincoln:
November 15, 2009 - 08:23 ET by MidAmericaAbraham Lincoln: "Property is the fruit of labor...property is desirable...is a positive good in the world. That some should be rich shows that others may become rich, and hence is just encouragement to industry and enterprise. Let not him who is houseless pull down the house of another; but let him labor diligently and build one for himself, thus by example assuring that his own shall be safe from violence when built."
barack obama: "It's not that I want to punish your success, I want to make sure that everybody who is behind you, that they've got a chance for success, too.
My attitude is that if the economy's good for folks from the bottom up, it's gonna be good for everybody. I think when you spread the wealth around, it's good for everybody."
Excellent comparison,
November 15, 2009 - 09:34 ET by motherbeltExcellent comparison, MA!!!
This equivalence to Lincoln comes out of nowhere!
The only thing Lincoln and Obama have in common is Illinois! The decision to use the Lincoln Bible for swearing in was a nice honorific to Lincoln, but it has zip, zero, zilch! to do with any similarities in the men.
That's just an amazing leap!
And no, the media won't have a problem with this, because it's connected to their messiah, after all. Bibles used for liberal purposes are OK.

November 15, 2009 - 09:48 ET by MidAmericaI live in a town where Lincoln walked and I grew up with stories of his life. If you get a chance to visit the Lincoln Museum in Springfield, IL do go. It's of a modern concept and very inspiring. The idea that obama is trying to put on Lincoln's image as his own is insulting.

November 15, 2009 - 09:42 ET by mamabearThis is a silly comparison. The conservative projects were about editing the Bible to make it more conservative/patriotic.
This version is just packaging a Bible with some other stuff related to Obama and Lincoln. So what?
Save your outrage for when they start replacing Bible verses with quotes from Obama's speeches!

Oba-Mao Marxist-Muslim, Lincoln Repub-Christian
November 15, 2009 - 14:59 ET by j17ghsPure blasphemy to associate Barry Oba-Mao with Lincoln. What's next? Lincoln/Mao's little red book Communist revolution collection? This country based on Christian principles helped to end slavery in the Western hemisphere while Barry's political groups vowed to continue it (and not just blacks, as the bullshit establishment line goes, but women into harems and men into forced labor).
Barry's Marxist-Muslims salivate over the use of massive military conflicts to kill millions to gain power while we give people quality of life, prosperity and hope. His people can only use Big Lies like global warming to make us look bad. We need Nuremberg Trails II, starting with the Oba-Mao and Clinton administrations and all associated with Soros and Saudi Arabia.
Slightly off topic...
November 15, 2009 - 18:49 ET by heldmyw...For which I apologize, but I searched "Obama Political Cartoons" using Google... a search engine known for it's lefty bias, crap treatment of Chinese internet users, and, behavior (inexcusable towards the military, and Lewinsky-esque to libtards), just in general, mind, jerks.
There are no cartoons from either side that ever show Obowma as a man. No muscles, no strength, no fortitude, empathy, leadership, determination... Nothing. Ever.
At best, he's portrayed as a prancing metrosexual leftover from some vomitous and cornball TV show like FAME.
At worst, he's a de-evolved Tinkerbelle in a tight, black suit, with wings where most have ears.
The image of our President. Even the most fawning cartoonist can't put some meat and muscle where there is only gas and bullshit.
Bible and Lincoln for this weightless weenie?
No.
Maybe a cartoon and some inaugural press-on nails.
