In other news, it's just been announced that President Obama's bold vision for a world without non-Iranian / North Korean nuclear weapons has also garnered him the American League Cy Young Award.

WTF? This is a man who believes that terrorists should be treated like naughty schoolboys and that gasping babies should be wrapped in towels and stuck in a closet to die. And these morons think that these "values and attitudes" are "shared by the majority of the world's population"?

There is no Hope. I just woke up to the news of Obama winning(?) the Nobel Peace Prize for doing nothing. This is the perfect prescription for a clinical narcissist. His head is so big now he can hardly get it through the doors at the White House and now the Nobel committee has decided his head isn't big enough. What if the committee's motives are not so pure, maybe they want to further cripple the U.S.A. by mental desatbilization of our President.

Even if the prize was given for pure reasons the Nobel Committee will soon regret it. The world is about to errupt in a major new wave ov violence because of the weakened perception of the U.S.A. as a direct result of Obama's non-policies. There is a lot of trouble on the horizon for anyone with the eyes to see it, but the Nobel Committee has never had 20/20 vision regarding the true world situation.

After all, Obama did discover HOPIUM and CHANGEUM, as well as personally usher in the moment that the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal, blah, blah, blah...

Seriously, though - when was the last time the Nobel Peace Prize really meant anything? It was probably around the same time that the United Nations really meant anything.

Obama will go down as the biggest joke in the history of the Presidency. I only pray that people don't die when the true nothingness of his accomplishments and qualifications hits the fan.

Even those inside the White House have to look at this through skeptical eyeglasses. Although, Jimah Cottah got one- so apparently all you have to do is dengegrate the US on foreign soil. Next year they'll be deciding between Ahmadinejad and Gaddafi.

The prize has not meant anything in a very long time, to the point of rewarding anti-Americanism or "efforts."  Here's the blurb from the AP:

Of course like it was pointed out, he usurped the office 2 weeks before the nominations were due in, and it's even pointed out that it was unusual to give it to a sitting president so early.  Can you say under the table dealings?

It would be nice, if Baz declined the award, saying he hasn't really done enough yet and put him in for next year. HA!!!! of course he won't do that.  So I hope he donates his winnings to charity.  HA he won't do that either. Probably won't pay the taxes on it either HA

Okay, I'm just going to go ahead and say I think this is a joke.  I can't speak for any other liberals here, but I snarfed when I opened up CNN this morning, and my boyfriend thought I was having him on when I told him the news.

I'm happy about it, sure.  I means the Olympic loss isn't some sign that the rest of the world is back to hating us again.

I suppose I understand the committee's statement that they intend the prize, as they did with Gorbachev, to support and promote efforts that haven't yet borne fruit.  But there have to be a thousand other people in the world right now working for peace, liberty, human dignity and other anti-American values (sorry, I can't resist a dig at all of the silly un-American complaints) who have devoted their lives to that cause and whose efforts HAVE made a difference in the world.

I'd be a lot happier if they'd given the prize to one of them.

Both presidents Clinton and Bush did more to try to straighten out the deranged army ants of the middle east. Which I might add is the circuitous result of years of liberal diplomatic, convoluted tinkering. 

Given that Barack received the nomination two weeks into his presidency. The committee's "anyone but Bush" policy for their selection must have President Obama rolling on the floor laughing. This is like Barney Franks everybody should be able to qualify for housing even if they don't have good credit. It's Oslo's equivalent to paying it forward. And a new low for socialists the world over.

Every day it's something else. when is this going to end???

I think this day will go down in history. In the years to come, students will learn about this as being a great day in political irony.

By giving Obama this award, they have handed him a chance to completely turn around his presidency, but to do it he has to decline it. If he were to make a very public statement of "while I am deeply humbled by this award, and am extremely grateful to have been considered, I can not, in good conscience, possibly accept it. I do not deserve this honor, and would be doing a great dis-service to those who do deserve it, to accept it, so I will not", a lot of people would see him in a new light.

Of course, he won't do that. He'll accept it so he can be known as "former President and Nobel laureate" for the rest of his life, which will likely kill his presidency as the embarassment of this award will be with him for the next three years and it'll also earn him resentment from a lot of World leaders.

This is a great teachable monemt.

The Rocky Mountain Collegian: Illustrating Idiocy

It was announced yesterday that the President, Barach Obama, is the recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize.

Obama, who took office on January 20th of this year, said he was “humbled” to be selected.

The cutoff date for nominations for the prestigious award was February 1st, 2009.

Obama won the award for his efforts during the 10 days he was in office prior to the cutoff.

His list of accomplishments during those 10 days are too numerous to list here, so we offer our congratulations.

Remember when the Nobel Peace Prize used to be looked upon with great reverence?  It has now taken yet another step in it's descent toward irrelevance. 

Who can forget Al Gore defeating the likes of:

• Irena Sendler, a 97-year-old Polish woman who saved 2,500 Jewish children from certain death in the Warsaw ghetto during World War II.
• Former Finnish President Martti Ahtisaari has been a longtime candidate because of his peace-broking efforts in the Aceh conflict in Indonesia.  He later won in 2008.
• Lida Yusupova, human rights lawyer and spokeswoman for the forgotten victims of the war in Chechnya.

And now he and Obama have attained the same status as Aung San Suu Kyi, Nelson Mandela, Mother Teresa, and Martin Luther King Jr., to name a few.

I would be interested to find out what the committee considered to be such a spectacular achievement in peace, in under two weeks time (between inauguration and the nomination deadline), that warranted this decision.

Oh that's right, as the AP put it:  Rather than recognizing concrete achievement, the 2009 prize appeared intended to support initiatives that have yet to bear fruit.

The Nobel Prize Committee has gone from an esteemed group, to playing Johnny Carson's role of Carnac the Magnificent.

Truly magnificent.

When I saw this news this morning, my first thought was, "Newsbusters probably imploded." 

To the Nobel Committee,

I once thought the Nobel Peace Prize was something special.  It meant that men and women of conscience and character beyond reproach chose an equally noble individual to be honored as such.  There was a time when truly deserving individuals, those who made real contributions and sacrifices for the good of our world society, were elected for this honor.

Over the years, however, your questionable, biased selections have rendered your committee increasingly irrelevant.  And just when the world thought it impossible, you manage to reach a new low by adding Barack Obama to your list of "honored" individuals.  It is simply an outrage and makes a mockery of all of you.  If it was not so sad and tragic, I would be doubled over laughing in disbelief.

Obama, this sad, misguided man, governed only by his narcissism, striving to become the first dictator of the United States of America, has never accomplished ANYTHING in his life which would warrant a Nobel Peace Prize!

Obama could ONLY have been chosen in one of two ways:

1.  Either Barack bribed the committee or made a promise of some kind which would be favorable to either the committe or Norway or both, OR

2.  You have all lost your collective minds!

Bravo!  What an accomplishment.  Only ONE thing is certain now about your committee and the "honor" of winning the prize:  it's just a joke!  Congratulations!

Precisely. This "prize"(which isn't worth the paper it's printed on) has more to do with attempting to slam and get in a dig at President Bush, than it does with "honoring" Obama. First off, Obama has done absolutely nothing that is worthy of any kind of honor, and second, the Nobel pinheads HATE George W. Bush, and this is their disgusting way of sending that message.

He starts off well saying he didn't deserve the prize and he hasn't accomplished anything but he then goes on to say he believes it's about affirming the future they want to build and a call to action.  

He should have stopped at the first part and politely declined, but no, his narcissism got the better of him.  Watch the speech, he so deftly rationalizes why he should accept a prize for which he admits he did nothing to deserve.

We shouldn't be surprised he thinks this way, after all, with zero executive experience he believed running (delivering speeches) a political campaign was valid experience to be POTUS.  Now with Afghanistan he dithers after 8 months in office because it's above his paygrade.
