Two Women Anchors of Network News? N.Y. Times Insists TV's Still Sexist

Two of the three network evening newscasts are going to offer women as the lead anchors, and yet, the New York Times is still whiny. TV critic Alessandra Stanley dropped this ridiculous line in a Sunday Week In Review piece:

As in other fields, women seem to break through the glass ceiling just as the air-conditioning is being turned off in the penthouse office suites. Women anchors may turn out to be what women doctors once were in the Soviet Union, a majority without status or financial advantage.

"Without status" is just silly, but not as silly as "without financial advantage." Katie Couric makes $15 million a year at CBS; Diane Sawyer reportedly makes between $12 and $15 million a year. How they're disadvantaged is anyone's guess.

Stanley also uncharitably placed Brian Williams in a self-pitying category:

Mr. Williams, who ascended to the position of NBC anchor on the shoulders of an old boys’ club, now has to reposition himself as a member of a persecuted minority, the white male anchorman.

There is some humor in the idea that any male would complain that now men are being crudely discriminated against at the top of the TV news game on the basis of their gender. But Stanley is assuming Williams only got where he is by "old boys' club" connections, not on hard work or talent.

Stanley's best competition in this contest of overwrought analysis of Couric's apparently heinous burden came from her former producer, Rome Hartman, last week in The Washington Post:

"What Diane should do is send Katie a bouquet of flowers and say thanks for getting there first and taking the grief that you really didn't deserve and that now I won't have to take."

Hartman should check on what most Americans would think of that statement: "Waah. It was so hard to take $15 million a year from CBS while keeping the network stuck in third place. Oh, the injustice!"

Heck, according to the MSM,

Heck, according to the MSM, the National Basketball Association is still racist.

all the news

I think all our news should come from women, and the weather too. They are facinating to watch even when what they say doesn't make sense.

Katie Rail Against Stanley?

Didn't good old Katie rail against Stanley for inaccurate coverage of Walter Cronkite?

MM

Mary Mapes mght rank a little higher. She was a screw-up in Seattle before she went National.

This reminds me a time back

This reminds me a time back in the 1990s when Rush Limbaugh was on TV with an African-American journalist who stated: "There are no African-American anchors in the Main Stream Media" (paraphrased)

Rush immediately replied "None?  What about Bryant Gumbel, Ed Bradley, and Bernard Shaw ??" . . .

motherbelt... Where's the

motherbelt...

Where's the duct-tape?!

'Go Green...Recycle Congress'

Well, I don't read the NYT,

Well, I don't read the NYT, and I don't even know who Alessandra Stanley (if that IS her true name) is, but it sounds like she has serious problems. Seems to be a "gender card" player who's running out of cards.

Not playing with a full deck?

;^)

"I love the women's movement... especially when I'm walking behind it." - Rush Limbaugh

Can't Keith Olberman be

Can't Keith Olberman be considered a women?  Ooops, my bad, he's AKA "bathtub BOUY!!" er BOY.

Those poor oppressed

Those poor oppressed minorities in America, like that guy Tiger Woods, who America keeps oppressing and he just can't make it to the top, or that woman Oprah, the richest woman on the planet, whose dollars have no value 'cause they are lady dollars, or maybe that guy, what's his name, who was recently elected President. Yeah, in America only white guys can achieve.

Write your Congress and Senate and tell them what YOU think!

I don't know what his name is either

So I will turn on that news program, you know, the View, which obviously will be dominated by all men and listen to them so maybe I will hear the four mention the new President's name. ;)

Just as we were told that

Just as we were told that electing a black President doesn't mean racism is over in this country, having women as news anchors doesn't mean sexism is done either.

Apparently racism and sexism are icurable. They're just being "disguised" right now.  Just as we elected a black President to hide the fact that we are racist, Katie and Diane have been elevated so that TV execs can hide the fact that they are sexist.

It isn't about the women...

...it's all about the content of the MSM's "news" that's keeping the viewers away.

Even in bankruptcy, the MSM will continue to insult their audience.

All [alleged] male members of the NYT staff...

...need to resign immediately.
