Remembering Ted for Saving Us from 'Authoritarian Extremist' Bork

Charles Pierce is the self-impressed Boston clod who is so deeply a tool of the Kennedys that he infamously wrote in the Boston Globe Magazine in 2004 that "If she had lived, Mary Jo Kopechne would be 62 years old. Through his tireless work as a legislator, Edward Kennedy would have brought comfort to her in her old age."

If you wondered, what Pierce had to say on Kennedy's passing, here it is from The Nation:

But, if Martin was right, and the arc of history really does bend toward justice, the Senior Senator didn't miss many chances to give it a little push along the way. For example, if it weren't for the Senior Senator, an authoritarian extremist named Robert Bork would now be in his 22nd year on the United States Supreme Court. Conservatives are still weeping about this. Tough. A country with a Robert Bork deciding on the issues of its liberties would be a smaller, more vicious place. The Senior Senator stopped that from happening. What'd your senator do today?

Pierce bragged: "It is almost beside the point now to mention that The Senior Senator leaves behind a pair of shoes that most of his Senate contemporaries could use for swimming pools." The swimming metaphors are probably not the best choice.

A Charles rewrite

"It is almost beside the point now to mention that The Senior Senator leaves behind a pair of waterlogged shoes, not to mention emptied bottles of Chivas Regal that most of his Senate contemporaries could use for swimming pools."

Plus, did he ever learn that Justice Alito's last name was not "Alioto"?

I wonder if they buried the good senator with his famous neck brace.

Make those shoes

high heels filled with french champagne and a bunch of scantily clad bimbos and it might be closer to the truth.

charles pierce-legend in his own mind

Note for pierce: A fine man like Robert Bork may not be on the Supreme Court thanks to a drunkard like ted kennedy.  However, we no longer have to hear the rantings of the so-called "lion of the Senate."  The big losers are liquor stores throughout the Northeast. Don't like it, pierce? Tough.  What's your dead senator done for you today.

Playing to the crowd

If you were already in favor of Ted Kennedy, Pierce didn't need to convince you. But if you were uncertain or against Ted Kennedy, then Pierce's argument amounts to nothing more than an assertion that's hard to believe ... namely, that good old Ronald Reagan nominated an authoritarian extremist to the Supreme Court, and that only Teddy could have stopped him. Which means Pierce would have to sway the millions of people (who didn't already know the details) that the beloved Gipper was actually an evil genius, and tried to appoint a monster to the Court.

  • But of course, Pierce isn't trying to persuade conservatives or independents.
  • He's trying to score points in his small circle of liberal friends. He's not talking to you, or me, or anyone fair-minded. He's just trying to ring the bell of liberal intolerance, because that's how they get their kicks.

Pay no attention.

Unfortunately, there are a

Unfortunately, there are a great many people who don't know the facts AND continue to believe that what they read in the MsM is unbiased and truthful.

If the paper says Teddy stopped that monster Bork, who would've segregated lunch counters and sent women down back alleys for abortions, than that must be what happened.  Hail Kennedy, hero and savior!

This is how history is revised and rewritten.

Massachusetts?

What is it about this state that is good for the nation?

Kennedy's (all of them -- dead and alive)

Gov. Patrick (his campaign mgr too -- Axelrod)

Mitt Romney's health insurance plan (bankrupting the state)

Professor Gates ("I know my rights and his name is Obama")

Barney Frank ("I hate myself why should I like you?")

Rep. Markey ("I'll make millions off Cap & Trade")

Harvard (wasn't Teddy expelled for cheating?)

I just see a bunch of horrible people supporting horrible institutions and plans anymore.

If you live there and vote what are you trying to do to the rest of us?

If only

America would have had something to save us from a drunken murdering no good senator.  http://www.gradegov....

Tim......"Charles Pierce is the self-impressed Boston clod who is so deeply a tool of the Kennedys..."

You wrote the perfect lead for this Kennedy cheerleader. Bet he wears a 20 year old bow tie, too. And loafers with tassles.

No citizen's right to life, liberty, pursuit of happiness, or property is safe as long as Obama is President of the United States.

Thanks to kennedy

We now have Sotomyyouraclumsyracistsexist on the bench instead of Mr. Bork. Nice going.

How can you comfort someone you murdered?

Mary Jo Appreciation Day

Perhaps Mary Jo can now appreciate the Swimmer of the Senate's final state ---- room temperature, but at least not water-logged.

Of course, if the tragic Miss Kopechne had lived thus far, she'd still have reason to fear ol' water-treading Teddie in the form of a health (or is is "liberal") care bill in his name putting her in the cross-hairs of some burearu-weenie "outcome" committee's sights.

Let's see --- drowning vs. Death Panel.  Hmm....

Yup, good ol' Mary Jo would be proud, I'm sure, of the wonderful new options Ted has provided for women.

What another dim-bulb this self-important "journalist" is.

Can we "cap" and "trade" him somewhere else?

"Ye canne change the laws of physics....." but some politicians believe that with the right legislation you can pretend they don't really apply to your own pet projects...

who is he talking about?

"Authoritarian extremist"?  Huh?  Was he confusing Bork with the former career Senator?

"Let's wrap him up, alright?" -- Keith Olbermann

The real authoritarian extremist

Bork is a strict constructionist, a man who believes the constitution says what it means and means what it says.  As such, he must believe in limited government.  If he acts on his beliefs, and I have no reason to doubt that he does, a limited government justice would wield power in a restrained manner.  That is the opposite of an authoritarian extremist.

Kennedy, on the other hand, helped get the government more and more involved in the lives of everyone, and would have given the government the power to meddle in the deeply personal medical decisions we all make.  That's an authoritarian extremist.  Washington is full of them, especially now.  Death has relieved us of one of them.

“Always love your country — but never trust your government!" -- Bob Novak (1931-2009)

exactly

I'm also shrugging my shoulders on this one.  Leftist propaganda run amok.
