Broadcasting & Cable magazine reports President Obama has named two NBC News veterans to the selection panel for the White House Fellows program, which will select new Fellows in the coming week:

Tom Brokaw, now a special correspondent for NBC News, and John Hockenberry of Public Radio International and formerly with NBC and ABC, join a distinguished panel that includes General Wesley Clark, Harvard Professor Laurence Tribe, and former Senator Tom Daschle to pick young people to work "at the highest levels of government" and to participate in an education program and complete public service activities.

The commission can choose between 12 and 19 fellows from a pool of 30 candidates winnowed from over a thousand who initially applied.

A White House fellowship is a prestigious D.C. internship program, and current NBC anchor Brian Williams served as a fellow during the Jimmy Carter years. (He's not listed as an eminent alumnus in the White House press release. How much love does Brian have to show Obama to get some notice?)

The White House suggests this panel is nonpartisan, but the only Republican I can find on this mostly liberal list is Roger Porter, a former adviser to George H.W. Bush.

A quick Googling of Brokaw shows that on June 15, he introduced John Kerry at a Council on Foreign Relations event. The Federal News page on it has an interesting tease with Brokaw's endorsement of Kerry's war heroism:

one of America's most distinguished public servants, Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts. Most of you know his biography by now, obviously. He's a graduate of a little trade school in New Haven, Connecticut, where he then after matriculating and serving in the same secret society as the man he ran against for president of the United States, he went off to Vietnam, where he had a not just a distinguished military record but a heroic military record, having earned the Silver Star. And during his campaign of course he was joined by his fellow crew members, and they gave testimony to his heroism in Vietnam....

So Brokaw could have had this appointment four years ago, if Kerry had won.

PS: John Hockenberry, who reports from a wheelchair, has shown his liberal stripes on TV. Try this MSNBC interview he anchored with Lawrence O’Donnell on June 8, 1999, where he equated Grover Norquist’s no-new-taxes pledge with the Salem witch trials:

All right. But pledge-smedge. Lawrence O’Donnell, you know it seems to me a lot of Americans out there watching this conversation might say it sounds like, you know, the Salem witch trials, this pledge. You have to take these little code words and pass these litmus tests.

Nonpartisan -- whenever the

Nonpartisan -- whenever the left says so. Another re-definition that is becoming more and more comfortable with the MSM.

Kinda like the upcoming ABC/WH Obamacare scam. You know, the one without Republican representation, but which will produce results that "Americans care about?" Yeah -- that one.

slight correction

They are no longer Main Stream Media. They are now the State Controlled Media as evidenced by the ABC deal and the coopting of Tom.

You mean SCAM -- State

You mean SCAM -- State Controlled Anti-american Media?

Well Said!

Well Said!

1984

This bunch is the king of newspeak:

Bipartisan: exclude all opposing ideas and points of view

Transparency: hide, twist, and obfuscate all facts

Patriotism: slam America and it's ideals at every chance

Cap and trade: tax and tax

I'm sure others here can add their own.

Nonpartisan my foot

Let's keep track of the leanings of the "chosen few" Fellows.  Anybody want to wager on how many of them will have conservative backgrounds vs. those who are avid (rabid) left wingers, just aching to be in the seat of power?

How much love does Brian have to show Obama

Please don't encourage Brian. It is already scary as it is.

Could this be anymore incestuous...?

There is no longer any distinction between network news media and the White House and they don't care who knows it.

Hey Janet Napolitano...I'm proud to be a Right-winger.

Just wondering

Wondering two things here:

Firstly, how many MSM are now official White House staff/toadies?

Secondly, how many MSM went over to the Bush White House?

Any hard numbers out there?

If only we had questioned back then

Later in the Bush Administration, we heard a refrain from mainstream reporters and editors that they regretted their "softness" on Bush in the early days after 9/11. They argued among themselves how, if they had only questioned Bush's policies from the start, we wouldn't have had Abu Graib, or the Iraq war, or Katrina, etc.

That's a crock, of course. But for the sake of argument, let's accept it.

Consider the same attitude with Obama, The press isn't just being un-questioning about Obama and these policies. They're actively leading the charge. They're giving Obama prime time space, and refusing opposition ads. A network (not just reporters) is clearing space for the president, and blocking opposition. The defense that "they've done it before" is hardly a defense.

If we don't stop these policies now, the inflation and deficit and damage to the economy later on will be immense. And if we hear these same reporters wondering "if only they had questioned," I think they should be held criminally disingenuous.

Payoff

I'm waiting for Gwen Ifill to accept a position in the Bamster admin. Probably just negotiating on terms and title.

Now one would hope that these folks would forever be branded as shills for the democratic party, but Stephanopolopikous seems to have moved back into 'journalism' pretty effortlessly. Maybe the Bamster should just do couple-year sabbaticals in his adminsturbation for media types. Just kind of get them on loan from the networks.

Daschle

Two things, both concerning Mr. Human Dynamo, Tom Daschle.

1) This selection committee must not require confirmation or release of tax documents.

2) With Daschle and Brokaw both being from South Dakota its obvious the state is waaaayyy over-represented.  South Dakota has a small and predominantly white population.  Where is the outcry from the Black Caucus?

The Real Reason the MSM promotes Liberalism

The MSM is staffed mainly by Liberals.

The 'Core Belief' of Liberalism is that Individuals are NOT responsible for their own decisions, actions and choices.

Now, the real reason the MSM always support Liberalism:

Liberalism
demands that society changes to match the depravity of the human soul,
rather than that humans change to match values, standards, ideals and
morality that have produced great societies throughout history.

So Tom Brokaw's new job

So Tom Brokaw's new job amounts to cruising for interns.  How fitting.

Pretty soon we'll have nothing but 31-year-old aspiring ambulance chasers "running" every American corporation.  Wow.  Obama is the greatest President of all time.

"I spent a lot of money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I just squandered."  -George Best

Smart & Sad

Obama's been smart to put teens of media personnel on his staff in various positions, some with little to no real responsibility but surely buying him continued slobbering love affair type coverage in the MSM.  I put the onus on the media themselves, and blame them for saying "yes" to these positions in Obama's administration.  Their ideological liberal love for Obama is just too strong to say "no I must maintain my journalistic integrity".

This era in journalism will be looked back at like the steroid era in baseball as a big black eye on the profession.

 From the Kremilin.gov

 From the Kremilin.gov site:

Declaring that "a genuinely free society cannot be a spectator
society," President Lyndon B. Johnson announced the establishment of
the White House Fellows Program in the East Room of the White House in
October 1964. Prompted by the suggestion of John W. Gardner, then
President of the Carnegie Corporation, President Johnson's intent was
to draw individuals of exceptionally high promise to Washington for one
year of personal involvement in the process of government.

The White House Fellowship was created as a non-partisan program. It
has strictly maintained this tradition during both Republican and
Democratic administrations and, through the cross-fertilization of
ideas and experience, has enriched the practice of public policy for
more than three decades.

The first problem is that it came into being under "Great Society" Johnson; the second problem is that it originated with the Carnegie Corporation (whose board of directors is rife with peaceniks, at least one acknowledged Socialist, a couple of Carter administration types like Cyrus Vance, and various U.N. types); the third problem is what I put into bold above.

Good Lord!

One of the 34% who thinks George W. Bush was a great President. One of the 61% who wants to bring back the stock and pillory (yep...approval for Congress now at 39%...do you believe that!?).

State Run Media...State

State Run Media...State Controlled Media....Everything is going to be run by the O-Team if they can scheme their way into it...and they're doing a bang-up job of it so far.

I really despise Brokaw, have said so numerous times and leave it at that...they act as if he has some major credibility somehow to all o fus out here...well he does not....he is one of the biggest behind the scenes leftist activist there is and has been for decades, just much more blatant now with how he uses the SCM...

This is all going to fall flat in my opinion...people are sick of being sick and tired of seeing O, this continual blow-hard blather to have State Controlled Health Care...crammed down our throats...the ratings certainly cannot be that good when all is said and done.
